Government can do anything they want to us as long as we play by their rules. They simply have to adapt the law however they see fit. I don't believe in progress by following their arbitrary rules.

See this is where the bitcoiners are just so wrong. They feel the government is after them or just going to shut us down for no reason. So if this was true, how come bitinstant is allowed to operate still, or trade hill or any USA company. If you don't play by the rules how are we going to get anywhere. You just want to be stubborn and instead of working with them? That is how you get no where, in life. I could easily not pay taxes, but I do so the future generations will be able to enjoy bitcoins in the light and not in the dark.
I don't mind legal companies going on about their own business, but at the same time I don't mind silk road going about their business (of not paying taxes, buying/selling illegal).

I think that silk road has actually been a huge contributing factor to bitcoins success. This is what people want, a currency not controlled by governments. If you're preaching how bitcoin is a fully "legal", "compliant", government ass kissing form of a currency, you're not putting anything new and exciting to the table and will stay stuck in the old fascist system that we hate so much. You're free to believe whatever you want, I'll continue my path of admiration for the "dark sides" of bitcoin and how it can bring freedom to the world.

Ok but then how do we get it mainstream. See you don't understand. If you have a Ferrari are you going to drive thru a town at 130mph, no it is dangerous you could get caught, you could hit a person, you could injury yourself. We are young we have to watch our steps and people like you don't make that easy. Just cause we have the power to do that doesn't mean we should. I would love not to pay taxes cause I am help people that abuse the systems of the government but I do it anyway. Sometimes you just need to be a time player and not this individual type. I know this is a hard concept but it is the right one.
Silk road is what made bitcoin go mainstream. Illegal trade is what really got bitcoin started, in addition to (illegal) gambling. "legal" businesses can be built on top of this, something that we're seeing a lot of lately with all the VC coming into the game. They're building services that comply with regulation.

Just cause we have the power to do tax evasion, why should we... We should play by the rules so the government can't do anything to us, then when or if the situation calls for tax fraud and evasion we then have the power to do it. But instead you want to do it now, bringing heat on all of us, that are trying to be legal.
Yeah you just keep on believing that BS and leave the rest of us alone please.

Thank you! People like you have no idea what is happening in bitcoin or how we should be playing our hands.

You can't post a logical argument cause you know I am right, keep posting your images.

Am I supposed to answer a personal attack with logical arguments? No wonder your ignore button is shining.

There is nothing wrong with tax fraud, in fact, bitcoin was created specifically to cheat on taxes, avoid regulations, perform political incorrect or illegal transactions. I don't think there is much these regulation fanboys can do, in fact they may even play a positive role in making bitcoin somewhat accepted by governments until it's too late for them to do anything about it.

You are very wrong. Don't spread misinformation. Tax Fraud hurts the entire community! People like you are hurting bitcoins.
Tax fraud doesn't hurt anyone, in fact quite the opposite. It leaves more money to be spent in the economy hence generating more value for everyone.

How are people like me suppose to run a legal bitcoin business when the government automatically thinks we are Tax scammers cause people like you made them think that. It hurts the community and makes it difficult for people to put that aside and then accept bitcoin. So yes you are indeed hurting the community, and businesses. So stop with your misinformation and spread of bad information.
How are people supposed to run a legal business accepting cash when people use cash to buy drugs? It's just a currency, doesn't matter if people use it for things you consider "bad".

How the fuk would gox become insolvent... They're sitting on a goldmine of trading fees alone. You guys really need to stop thinking the worst possible scenarios, I personally think Gox isn't as bad as you guys make it seem. Yes, they have problems, but that's to be expected of an online exchange operating in a novelty area like bitcoin...

GOX is doomed.  The sob stories are going to be classic, as millions evaporate to fund the retirement of Gox executives.

I wouldn't go that far but they certainly have lost a lot of customers and they were partly responsible for the big correction a few months ago.
You reap what you sow, so I think Gox will just lose market share. That is needed.
They have done a lot for BTC, being a leader is very difficult. At least they have been great with security.
It will be nice when the exchanges are more evenly distributed, % wise.

Didn't they lose everyone's password hashes recently? My friend had everything stolen.

If your "friend" did not use 2 step authentication he deserved it.

He did not deserve it. We all make mistakes.

I only found out about the password hashes from a post on here. All gox had to do was send out and email informing customers what had happened and to advise them to change their password.

I'm not just gox bashing for the hell of it, they are not that bad, but this could have been avoided.
All your friend had to do was read his e-mail I guess. They sent multiple e-mails regarding this...

"Dear Mt.Gox user,

Our database has been compromised, including your email. We are working on a
quick resolution and to begin with, your password has been disabled as a
security measure (and you will need to reset it to login again on Mt.Gox).

If you were using the same password on Mt.Gox and other places (email, etc),
you should change this password as soon as possible.

For more details, please see this:

https://support.mtgox.com/entries/20208066-huge-bitcoin-sell-off-due-to-a-compromised-account-rollback

The informations there will be updated as our investigation progresses.

Please accept our apologies for the troubles caused, and be certain we will do
everything we can to keep the funds entrusted with us as secure as possible.

The leaked data includes the following:

- Account number
- Account login
- Email address
- Encrypted password

While the password is encrypted, it is possible to bruteforce most passwords
with time, and it is likely bad people are working on this right now.

Any unauthorized access done to any account you own (email, mtgox, etc) should
be reported to the appropriate authorities in your country.

Thanks,
The Mt.Gox team"

i did not get that mail.. when was this?

E-gold was perfect, any libertarians dream, same with liberty reserve. These were centralized however, just like napster, while bitcoin is distributed. I believe the better analogy to use is that e-gold was the napster of money while bitcoin is the bittorrent, the unstoppable version.
