941  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: "Avalon" ASIC mining machine, announcement & pre-order start. update:9/19 on: September 21, 2012, 05:40:50 AM
What are we talking about here? Per month?
That's still unbelievably low for selling ASICs @ $1299 or $1999 per piece.
942  Other / Off-topic / Re: [Announcement] Butterfly Labs on: September 21, 2012, 05:31:50 AM
From what I know of the Avalon, the power requirements are going to make it only interesting to those that don't have to pay for power. Our units are optimized for power efficiency as well as performance, not just one or the other.
And how much power do they take?
The same or less than our current models.
You mean that they draw more power than your current models, don't you?
If not, and the Avalon draws less/same power or has more GH/s/$ than the Single SC, then we have a problem. I hope you have something in your bag in that case, at least something like a commercial gesture for your loyal pre-order customers.

We are only in September 2012, and we already have competitive offers against BFL. The ASIC competition might be stronger than we thought...
The difficulty throughout 2013 is gonna be scary.

The 7970 isn't $500 anymore, either.
Why the heck would you drop a 7970 for comparison here Huh

Your icbit.se site is a total fail. Unusable, try again.

The website is gonna crash under a DDOS attack in exactly 1 day and 17 hours from now.
Get ready for the race.

@Inaba/BFL_Josh:
What's your current plan to counter the new Avalon ASIC giving 60 GH/s @ $1299?
Are you not afraid?
947  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Decentralized mining protocol standard: getblocktemplate (ASIC ready!) on: September 20, 2012, 05:15:11 AM
I don't have dialup, but still saving bandwidth is important so the new mining hardware doesn't DDOS your shiny pool by saturating the pools line.
Sure, but GBT does save bandwidth. It just doesn't save as much as StratumMP, because it doesn't keep the miner in the dark.
Showing the miners the path to enlightenment is nice, but it's not as if we already couldn't do that. Take the Bitminter pool for example: It's clear, transparent, without fees, pool donations are optional, and pays all the transactions fees to the miners. Everyone can check it on the public BTC address that receives the blocks+transactions. After 120 confirmations this same address pays the exact same amount to the miners. More light is not possible.

One should also note that the interest of the pool operator is the same as the miners: Include the best transactions in the next block to maximize his profit (through donations in our case).

It will. Closer to 30x based on my calculations.

It's confirmed that ckolivas is (only?) gonna implement the Stratum protocol in CGMiner soon:

Anyway unfortunately for some (one?), I'm not dead and was not going to abandon cgminer, but family comes first. Things are still bad there but I'm finding my feet again.

I'll look at the stratum protocol at some stage soon.

It was just some little details, not meaningful. But still, why can't they work together to improve CGMiner? Losing a lot of man-hours with these 2 forks.

Quick question: Luke-Jr just undone changes I made in the P2Pool wiki page, saying:

cgminer is pretty much deprecated at this point
Why would he say that?

Numbers?
953  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: 3x 5870 avg ~1050MH/s normal? on: September 18, 2012, 04:42:13 PM
I put 2.1 SDK and 12.1 drivers and got those running 1200MH/s with 855/875/850 clocks and 1v on every card.
855 ~392
875 ~400+
850 ~388

But yes I'm going to sell all of them when ASIC's comes out.

Can you tell me how exactly you downgraded to 12.1/2.1? Did you do some tricks or something?

Hi Inaba, quick question if a customer pre order a unit and the unit is complete and ready to ship out can the customer just come to the office and pick up the unit instead of waiting 4-6 week.
No. It's written in their FAQ that their offices/factory is not set up to allow order pick up.

I was trying 11.12 and 2.1 (I don't know why, I thought I read something about it).

That's probably the best performance for 5xxx series cards.
Sam
I'm running 11.6 and 2.1, underclocking VRAM to 275 and using worksize 256 on my 5850

this seems to be ideal and doesn't have the 100% cpu bug
What 100% cpu bug are you talking about? On the 11.12 + 2.1?
956  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: 3x 5870 avg ~1050MH/s normal? on: September 18, 2012, 02:46:00 PM
I'm actually struggling installing/downgrading to sdk 2.1 and 11.12 from 12.8 and sdk 2.7 under W7 x64. CGMiner 2.7.5 didn't like the sdk 2.1 and said that no devices was found/usable <opencl sdk not installed> even though 2 lines before it lists the sdk.
957  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: 5870 SDK/Drivers combination under W7 x64 on: September 18, 2012, 02:42:19 PM
I actually tried to install SDK 2.1 and 11.12 but cgminer 2.7.5 didn't like and said that he couldn't find any usable gpu <opencl sdk not installed> even though 2 lines before it lists the opencl driver. So I'm back at 12.8 and 2.7.

The decentralization is important, I agree with you on that Luke. The single-line, TCP connection of slush is still an elegant solution from a miner's point of view. I didn't read much into the technicalities of the GBT protocol, but eventually it's the effective implementations, and the stales rates that come with which ones that is going to determine what protocol is gonna be widely adopted once ASICs are shipped.
