They went up to $15000 in donations quite quick..

Could the bitcoin community do something similar for its asic?

Call for OpenRISC ASIC donations

What is this project about?

Help OpenCores create a "super-low-cost" SoC ASIC component based on the OpenRISC processor. This ASIC will then be offered for sale to the community to use freely in any products, especially for the donors. Your donation is very important allowing us to implement the design into a cost-efficient ASIC technology.

<snip>

Summary

The open-source methodology is here to stay, just take a look at the success story behind Linux/Android, and all the great benefits that open-source offers. We now need to take the next step with open-source hardware development, meaning to actually create "true" open-source Semiconductor components in order to stay competitive, and to make sure that smaller companies can compete with large Semiconductor giants.

So please join us and help us rewrite the history books for hardware development, by making a donation.

Best regards,
The OC-team (oc-team@opencores.org)

Changing an email address is not a scam--it's a clue. A clue that just happens to coincide with when KNCMiner came unto the scene.

Put this clue together with the other clues and you'll have... (still working on that).  Grin

You have my post above of throwing wads of money to blonde fragile ikea boys lol.

So, you have no problem with ORSoC pretending to be some other entity (if that's the case)? Wouldn't that be a clue as to not throw wads of money their way?

Oddly, KNCMiner was online after I starting penning my recent posts, but they don't find it important enough to refute it.

I'll tell you what! If it comes to light that ORSoC is truly behind this project, but opted for starting some other entity, namely, KNCMiner, to further development via distancing themselves, then that would not bode well, for it would have been best for ORSoC to come forward and declare their intent at the onset, unless I'm missing something as to why they can't do that.

The hårdvarukod which is used to determine how a circuit works is becoming increasingly complex. This has led to a desire for open source even in this area, according to Marcus Erlandsson, one of the men behind the open source site OpenCores. - It has no longer afford to self-invent the wheel time and again. It all works just like Linux. Those who outsource their code gets help from all over the world with verification and verifying may use the code. It's a win-win situation, he says. Marcus Erlandsson is technical manager at Swedish ORSoC, a consulting firm that develops electronics. After a year and a half, the company owns OpenCores. - We have been working towards this site since it started in 1999. When the founders wanted to hand over to a company that had the right mindset, that is open source, we had the honor to buy the site of them.

How do you earn money with it?

 - We have two hats. First, we use projects on the Open Core and picks code from them, and we run the Open Core for it to become the hardware equivalent of Linux. We have also opened OpenCores too little advertising, but it is marginal. Marcus Erlandsson believes that the fair value of the site for ORSoC located in the pr company gets. - Everyone in this area knows that we own the site and are experts in this technology . We are contacted by the world's largest companies, and that's pretty special for a small Swedish company.

Companies do it all the time. Like kfc taco bell ect all owned by yum brands. Maybe if they fail their brand won't be tarnished, but failing doesnt mean scam, such as Basic refunding people. All and all this is wild speculation, someone can contsct OR and ask if they have any ownership stake or how the partnership came to be.

Until then i would just wait for more info

I guess companies change their contact information all the time, too.

Looks to me like more time is spent on covering tracks than in developing ASICs.

Are you calling my theory wild speculations.

https://twitter.com/m_erlandsson

Check out his posts and who he follows. Been involved with Bitcoin since 2010.

Ironically, the first person he followed was...wait for it...Gavin Andresen.

Why don't you just look at the LinkedIn profiles of who's working at ORSoC and for the people behind KNCMiner, before posting nonsense like this?
Do you seriously believe that a company of that size would risk everything, just to earn some extra pennies on a few thousands bitcoin rigs?

It's all just wild speculations without any plausible or reasonable thought behind it.

Just did what you suggest, hence the above.

9527  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Buying BFL debt. $0.10 per dollar owed. on: April 20, 2013, 05:56:39 PM
@Inaba
shut up and pay 1000BTC to charity

I never received the memo showing that the PR guy of a company is allowed to make bets on their behalf. If you remember when BFL first came on the scene, the user BFL spoke about bets if such-and-such happens/doesn't happen, and Josh was right there in the mix.
9528  Other / Off-topic / Re: PM pissing contest - how many PMs have you got? on: April 20, 2013, 05:43:18 PM
Each page contains 20 PMs, so just multiply the amount of pages you have in your private message inbox by 20. I have 1120 PMs!

Dude, what are you hiding! You know damn well theymos would have a hard time hunting down relative PMs within that field.  Grin Grin Grin

I think the entire thing is an elaborate troll.

Why has no one purchased a used school bus and turned it into a green cannibus?
Don't give Dank any ideas.

Brilliant idea my sir.
Awww, shit.

is 4/20, one year from the last big SR scam, really a good time to be ordering anything?

That said, SR is too damn expensive anyway, Happy 4/20 from Sydney

That's what my post was in reference to, reflecting on what happened last year.

I wonder if a repeat is in the works.

A tad behind, hence not sure if this was discussed, but did they really close down the entire city of Boston in the hunt for some kid? Could they have used this event to test out what they could and could not do in the future during Martial Law?

Phinnaeus, I'll help. Concept is all I can provide, just tell us the rules.

You want me to open it? Should I take a pic proving that it was unopened before I cut the plastic to get to the box?

9536  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BFL 20 April 2013 on: April 20, 2013, 07:28:07 AM
Quick, change the title of the thread to BFL 420-2013 or BFL 420 Update before anybody notices. Three demerits for not thinking of it yourself.
9537  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Instawallet claim process on: April 20, 2013, 06:54:19 AM
One way or another, the ONLY thing which argues that anyone will get anything in 90 days is simply the ~boussac says so.  That is hardly confidence inspiring to me, and I continue to maintain that taking no concrete action in the interim is irresponsible and negligent and will not help the ecosystem evolve to a more healthy state.

As mentioned earlier, if after the promised 90 days there's not a resolution, there are actual names that can be used in proceeding a legal case.

What scares me is that if this turns out to be the case, we'll have another Bitcoinica liquidation on our hands where all the parties were known with the exception of Zhou Tong, who to this day only one person ever met him in person--Tihan Seale. Current location? Unknown.

http://orsoc.se/orsoc-and-kncminer-are-partnering-up-to-develop-bitcoin-mining-products/langswitch_lang/en/

Time for a new theory (and a kick in the balls for this one).

Take a look at the page I linked to. You'll see only five major announcements, the last being kncminer.com with the one before that on Aug. 22, 2012.

Oddly, there are no screenshots of kennemarandcole.se or kandc.se or kennemarandcole.com from last year, because they only recently went live.

Could it be that Kennemar and Cole already work for ORSoc, or were their names simply "borrowed"?

Take a look at http://www.kennemarandcole.com/ and convince me it doesn't read similar to http://orsoc.se, both being consultant-type companies.

so what are you saying there can't be another consultant type company? And Kennemarandcole serves a completely different market of IT services, while ORsoc serves hardware.

Okay! You win! I thought it was a pretty crazy theory and all, but wanted to toss it out there nonetheless. There's no way in hell that ORSoC could've been aware of Bitcoin and what it incompasses until Kennemar and Coles brought it to their attention. Unless, that is,... http://opencores.org/project,btcminer

Has anybody ever heard of a company called BTCMiner before? Maybe it's a new company that's going to work hand-in-hand with KNCMiner.

Any insight will be appreciated.

I love this forum!  Kiss

Dude how do you have 1 billion posts and not know BTCminer? They sold FPGA's on this very forum lol! How do you know Coles brought it ORSoc's attention? Not trolling just wondering, because I think they are completely different companies that aren't involved with each-other.

My bad! Sometimes I forget to include the sarcasm tag in posts.

The point I was trying to make is that ORSoC knew about Bitcoin prior to KNCMiner bringing it to their attention in hopes of having them develop their miners.

Lol I'm like dafuck!! That's very probable as ORSoC is in that business I'm sure they knew about bitcoin lol, maybe KNC is a new company started by ORSoC just for the purpose of selling miners, might be a new venture.

That's exactly what my new theory consists of which, in and of itself, isn't a bad thing unless, that is, they opted for cloaking the connection at the onset, then there's a problem, for if they do this, what else are they capable of doing (read hiding)?

<Midnight to 2AM conference call.>

Kano: What's new?
Josh: Busy implementing our interesting solution.
Kano: What we talked about earlier?
Josh: Even Sonny liked it.
Kano: Amen, brother! Amen! How's it going?
Josh: According to plan, bro. They're all talking about it now.
Kano: I see it! What's the latest on my miner?
Josh: You're not going to believe this, but thanks to some cocksucker on BT suggesting some type of grease or vaseline between the chips and the board, we'll now be able to increasing the output.
Kano: You'll met specs?
Josh: Fuck no, but we'll increase nonetheless.
Kano: Gotta go. I think that fuckin' alpaca is tappin' the line again.
Al the Alpaca: This is Jehovah, Luke. Pay no attention to the white van in your driveway.
