Has anyone with a B3 order received a shipping notification?  Still anxiously awaiting mine...

probably late tonight (which is morn July 22 in china) or tomorrow because my late batch 2 was shipped today

Cleaning them up and applying a proper amount of paste so as to NOT grease ASIC pins together, they are running @ spec...  For now, update in a few hours.

I wouldn't know where to apply it and what a proper amount would be. why not just clean the obvious excess mechanically (swipe)?
What is the good paste: arctic silver? cooler master? zalman?

I'm sure someone (or I will) post up pics to show where to do it (very easy!). You do not want to just wipe the excess because there can be a ton of caked on thermal paste in between the chip/heatsink. Additionally, the thermal paste they use is most likely just some basic paste and any aftermarket thermal paste will likely bring down temps.

AS5 will do just fine.

so, you clean first chemically? i see this product that has both AS5 and cleaning solution:
http://www.amazon.com/Arctic-Silver-Thermal-Compound-ArctiClean/dp/B001FVI91U/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8
or just order AS5:
http://www.amazon.com/Arctic-Silver-Thermal-Compound-Grams/dp/B000OGX5AM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8

Correct.

Measure your GH/s and Temps before changing anything, note them.

You'll remove the heatsink and first do a cleaning/wipedown. Be gentle and very detailed!

You can use that solutions or any ISO Alcohol above 90% will do (I personally use 99% ISO)

Use a Q-Tip and/or MicroFiber cloth to do the cleaning.

Make sure the chipset is dry/clean then reapply the new thermal paste, but do not cake it on.

Boot and now look at GH/s and temps - if temps are higher, re-check everything and make sure you put enough paste on.

arf i had that problem with an S1, the glue wouldnt get solid after weeks of mining.. then the vent blowed dust on the board, mixing it with the glue. cleaned it up with some toilet paper (Grin) and lost about half of the hasrate. anyway, i ROIed and it was about the time to stop running it.

anyho, just saying, beware of that glue they're using. better letting the device cool down every weeks or so.

Yeah, S1 was baking dust on the back side of the machine. After a couple of months there was quite a mess near/under fan.
You probably had an ESD event when you were cleaning the boards with toilet paper (electrostatic discharge). I tried to not touch boards for cleaning at all, even when they looked a little dusty.

I'm using it as an example to show you how a company who delivered perfectly on time and 10% over spec actually fucked their customers.

KnC fucked their customers when they decided to make 1 (or 2) big ass datorhalls for selfish mining.

The loss due to KNC increasing the network hashrate by 4% pales in comparison to the loss due to the preorders.

I guarantee nobody would have paid $2/gh for in stock hardware at the end of June with or without the added 4% network hashrate.

Just like how nobody would pay $12k for an sp30 even if it was delivered yesterday.

but they would pay ~9K, maybe slightly more due to a compact form and better energy efficiency.

What if you buy $80,000 worth of s3 I'd have around 66TH/S in power.
Since I don't pay for electricity I'd get my ROI in about 71 days and make about 300k in one year...? Why isn't everyone doing this.. Lol

There is a difference between not paying electricity and having infinite electricity. Your lease might provide you with free utilities but don't think that they'll let you use over a $1000 in electricity per month.

more like $5000

Hello guys,

I have a few questions regarding the S3.If someone can help me it would be great. Smiley

Can I order it (or preorder it) using dollars, not btc?

I tried to contact BITMAIN,but I am not sure if I used the correct e-mail adress.Do they have an e-mail,that they actualy read?

Thanks

Sorry but this forum is a bit messy, thats why I am posting this questions here Smiley

for $$-use resellers such as
112bit.com
minersource.net
ebay

I don't think that they have any available now (with ebay exception) until the batch 4 is open.

I would actually recommend buying SP hardware if it was sold from stock and for a reasonable price.

I wonder sometimes why european/US manufacturers seem to unable to fully grasp the idea of selling from the stock or a short (2-3wk) preorder.
What exactly is the difference? Is it small manufacturing facilities, risk aversion, upfront funds?
European/US asic makers also do not care about market share and in one case (KnC) are unable to adjust the price to market conditions.
I am still at a loss as to why KnC did not continue to sell Jupiter into jan-Feb or why spond did not continue to sell Sp-10 as long as it was selling with a profit (maybe it wasn't, I don't know). This seems to completely contradict almost any other business that I know of. Typically, you continue to sell an older model if you are still making money with it until there is a new model. I don't see anything unique to bitcoin that negates this possibility.
9570  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S3 Discussion and Support Thread. on: July 21, 2014, 04:53:54 PM
Do these heat up the whole room to be like sauna just like the S1's did?

Almost the same power dissipation (watts) right? Close to? Regardless if it's an S1 or S33 350W of heat energy being dissipated in a sealed room will result in a sauna.  Smiley

The key is to move hot air out and cooler air in, which is easier said than done once you have 10kW in a small room I might add.

I am running 2 in a small office with Central AC and shut the door at night. Still cool when I come in in the morning. I couldn't run 1 S1 or S2 in the office as it was hot the next morn. I am the SE US.

This is quite interesting. One S3 is producing 340W equivalent of heat, so should be similar to S1. However, i noticed that airflow seems to release much less heat than s1, so the rest of the heat is probably irradiated as IR from the metal casings. Perhaps, there is a difference how it relates to A/C. For example, IR radiation might pass throw glass windows. It would be interesting to check if S3 is emitting on any other wavelengths. Energy has to dissipate somehow, and it is not just an airflow in S3.

3 S3's received on the 17th. Set them all up with 750w PSU's of various sort.

First 24 hours all 3 OC'd to 250 mhz and getting about 500gh/s each. stoked!

After about 28 hours, notice one "x" on the first S3. Rebooted, went away for about ten minutes them returned. Average hashrate dropped to 470ghs. Set it down to 237.5, all "o" and getting about 475 ghs average, little more on poolside. I'lll take it!

A bit concerned that one has temps of 46 sometimes, during hotter times of the day. Is this too hot to maintain?

Ihave these temperatures as normal in the part of the world am located with normal settings so no worries

I am curious, why diff is 1.02K? Seems that 512 would be appropriate. Is this what is causing a gigantic discarded share numbers?
How this looks like on the pool side?
9572  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Guide] Dogie's Comprehensive Bitmain Antminer S3 Setup [HD] on: July 20, 2014, 09:59:42 PM
Great guide, Dogie...

few notes:
1. The guide calls it R3 at some point
2. ssh login/passwd is root/root, not root/admin
3. it refers to holding reset button to the left of LCD screen, which is relevant to S2, but not S3 (no LCD on S3). On S3 there is a pinhole to the right (if you are looking straight at ethernet port) of the pair of red and green indicator. The easiest way to do it (reset) is to push inside the pinhole for 5-10sec with a thicker paper clip.

and the last one beeps once in a hour.

Lol, Bitmain made a bitcoin miner clock  Cheesy

strangely, but the beep does not bother me one bit since it is in one of the bedrooms upstairs.
9574  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S3 Discussion and Support Thread. on: July 20, 2014, 09:05:22 PM
So ... what is this random beeping all about from the S3's?

Every now and then I hear a beep, not sure if it's always from the same miner ... and neither of them ever switch over to a fall-back pool, so connectivity seems OK.

It's just a single beep, so contact with the pool/internet doesn't seem to have been lost.

out of four that I have there are three "beepers" and one "silent type" that beeps only when restarted.
Among beepers, two beep only once in a while (like once or twice a day) and the last one beeps once in a hour.
9575  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S3 Discussion and Support Thread. on: July 20, 2014, 08:46:03 PM
I want to report in on my findings, running a pair of S3.
One gets consistent 430GH over 1 day, 6 hours.  Default clock speed
The other one gets consistent 410 GH over 1 day, 6 hours.  Default clock speed

I've rebooted the slower one several times, and all chips show OK status.  They are on independent power supplies.  Only one miner per 700W power supply.

Only upside is temperature is consistently below 40.

did you try to ssh into it and change to 212.5 (as philipma did)?
(comment on 218.75 with # and uncomment 212.5)
9576  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S3 Discussion and Support Thread. on: July 20, 2014, 08:02:25 PM
Overclocking:

I am getting 465GH at 237.5mhz with 0.6% hardware error (not exactly 478Gh) and 441GH at default 218.75mhz
Did anybody had a situation when at 225mhz S3 performed better than at 237.5, providing that miner is overclockable in principle?

well mine were so bad at 225 or 237.  I quickly gave up.  the 212.5 is now giving me  429 each with almost no errors .001%  what is interesting is that same 429 on my gui and my m's ant monitor is about 433-435 at btcguild.

Since btcguild pays me that seems like a good thing

I made an interesting observation: at the default frequency, you get high GH numbers first, then numbers drift down to steady level. Paradoxically, when overclocked, numbers are awful at first, then slowly (over an hour) drift up. Perhaps, you did not wait long enough. I almost did as well, but noticed that my 5s hash was always much higher than average, then average was drifting up continuously.

Now 1 miner start!!

I have change the DNS server (8.8.8.Cool

I have also change the default IP!!

Why the oder miner doesn't start?? is linked in the same way!!

P.S: The password of the miner?? If some one want to mine with my worker it's not a problem!!  Grin Grin

what do you mean-linked in the same way. Two miners cannot have the same ip on your LAN.
9579  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S3 Discussion and Support Thread. on: July 20, 2014, 04:52:38 PM
this is the page of configuration:

https://i.imgur.com/QtVwDtX.png

The miner status section show no result.. What's a typo?

more important-did you setup miner in network pane (WAN)?
you have to be sure that you know your ip for miner if not default (write it down), mask, router, DNS
did you click on "save and apply" for pool settings?
also, edit the posted file to at least not show your passwords. there are sharks in these waters...
9580  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S3 Discussion and Support Thread. on: July 20, 2014, 04:35:07 PM
I have a problem with the new S3.

I have set the pool on the configuration page, but nothing happens. The green led si flashing slowly and the Gh/s is 0..

What's the problem, I have to set some other value??

in miner configuration it should say alive or dead. if dead-you made a typo.
