961  Other / Archival / Re: Let's talk Texas Holdem poker hands and how to play like a PRO? on: May 20, 2020, 06:52:01 PM
Postle the godmode runner. I owe this dude a lot, mostly because his scandal turned me back on to poker. I got a YouTube hit for Doug Polks video and then i fell down the rabbit hole of poker hand review videos.

Joey Ingram went deep in his investigation for hours and days. I like to reserve judgement but I would be hard pressed to find a reasonable doubt of collusion.

I'd have to dig but they showed a week where the stones manager/poker room organizer was away for a week. During this time Mikes magic was gone and his table demeanor was very different. I will try and fine the video/article. I think this was the only such week where his gameplay suffered during his winning streak. Again speculation but I can't recall all the details.

There is also some interesting stuff posted by berkey that implicates someone at stones through his understanding of rfid. A lot of their errors he says aren't possible, and he shows how easy it is to create a shareable link to display table hole cards.
Edit: Here is a  massive thread on the case. From 2+2. The OP has been updated with links and references.

no link---are you talking about the megathread in NVG? https://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/29/news-views-gossip/mike-postle-cheating-allegations-faq-first-post-1753388/

i forgot all about NVG.......always such a shitshow over there. Grin

it's true, there's nothing like a juicy controversy to re-kindle interest like that. i wasted a whole day digging through all the videos when i heard about it. and once you do that, you just gotta play some cards.
962  Economy / Gambling / Re: #2 Bitcointalk Poker Series (0.05 BTC & BIG BTC Ticket sponsored by SwC Poker) on: May 20, 2020, 06:40:41 PM
Since we are also having a BIG BTC TICKET, and it’s completion is on 31st May, how the winner supposed to get it in time if our tourneys finish on the same day …?

may 31 = the last qualifier. the championship won't be until the following weekend anyway. i assume the earliest the ticket could be used is the june BIG BTC.

It's just that all regular players will get all passwords, no matter if they sent the 200 chips already or not. If they then decide to join a tournament, they would have to send 200 chips. It's easier to handle for efialtis and I think we can trust the regular players to not take advantage.

+1, i like it. no need to worry about last minute coordination, especially if we lower late registration time as discussed.

Who are going to join with me in Poker with Steve in this evening on sportsbet.io? They always have over 100+ players and it's really hard. My best is 18th so far LOL
I am going to join this evening for poker with Steve but highly doubt we are gonna meet, unless we are seated on the same table from the beginning. I am playing those freerolls very loose and calling all ins basically every time I have anything in my hand.

same here. i'm registered but i plan on donking it off unless i win an early all-in or get seated at a table full of sit-outs. i find sportsbet's poker software slightly tilting tbh.
963  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Isnt a problem if China has 68% of the hashrate? on: May 20, 2020, 01:46:01 AM
Bitcoin's protocol doesn't just rely on the idea that no one will get 51% of hashpower to avoid getting attacked, the point of PoW is to make attacks so expensive that it would deter attackers from doing it. So, theoretically miners could try it, but it would be hard to profit from it, and it won't be sustainable in the long run. Also, from the point of view of miners, it's like killing your goose that lays golden eggs - if their attack is successful, it would cause panic and drop the price, thus reducing their profits from mining.

that only considers bitcoin's mining incentives. the real danger of highly concentrated mining inside china's borders are incentives that are external to the bitcoin protocol.

here is one possible motive for such an attack: the chinese government forcing miners and mining pools to attack the network under threat of imprisonment.

now you might say this is an unlikely scenario, and maybe you're right, but it exemplifies the problem of thinking about this issue purely in terms of the bitcoin protocol. if the chinese government wanted to crush confidence in bitcoin this is one possible option---and since they can leverage the capital of miners (instead of their own) they can do it at virtually no cost.
964  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitmex being sued for BTC market manipulation by same ones who did it to XRP on: May 20, 2020, 01:26:22 AM
i'm just gonna leave this here:

Bitmex are being accused from BMA LLC having of orchestrated the largest financial crime of American history.
Illegal wire fraud and money laundering of $3 million each day (but I would imagine it to be more everytime btc price rises closer to $10k) calling them a racketeering company and operating without a legal money transmitter license.

They have been accused of having employees trading against their customers. And everyone who is one of their customers are very suspicious of them doing these outages (even one just happened last night, while the price of btc was having a mini bullrun up to $10k) on purpose so people can not exit from their positions then get their btc liquidated.

This seems like massive market manipulation on an unforeseen level nearing that of criminal activity.

bitcoin manipulation abatement LLC...... Roll Eyes

these are the same ambulance chasers who filed a market manipulation and racketeering suit against FTX a few months ago. that suit was quickly dismissed in its entirety with prejudice: https://www.financemagnates.com/cryptocurrency/news/us-court-dismisses-150-million-lawsuit-against-crypto-exchange-ftx/?tg=1576224857

while bitmex has fucked over a lot people in its time, i doubt this complaint will proceed any further than that one.

Villain 2 shows [Tc Kd] (a high card, Ace high [Ac Kd Tc 9s 8h])
Villain 1 shows [3c 3d] (a pair of Threes [3d 3c Ac 9s 8h]) for the win
Villain 1  collected 24360.00 from main pot

So you can see I folded to this river bet. Hitting an A or a better 9 was a possibility for both the preflop raiser Villain1, and the SB calling range. I didn't put SB on a higher pocket pair as they didn't 3 bet, but maybe they have TT+ and just don't 3-bet the small blind.
I was also much more concerned with the in position player as they could have any number of Pocket pairs...didn't expect 33, and A smashes a lot of their range.

Overall happy with the fold, calling down with second pair is something I've struggled with. So this time I would have amassed a massive stack, but overall in this spot I think the safe play is the right play more often than not.

that's certainly not what i expected! i still think folding was the best move, without any more obvious reads on either player.

hand #1, from the bitcointalk series:
I don't like a shove in this spot with this holding. Mostly because of the limper having ~8X your all-in. They could be limping to induce a jam given the stack sizes in the blinds, or they limped because people are over folding to them and they have a monster.

he did indeed limp QQ here but i don't think @cygan is thinking on that level tbh. in hindsight, i probably could have gotten him to fold the Kxx flop, which is what he had likely prepared to do by limping. i could be wrong about that.

this was my main concern, which is why indeed A9 may be too marginal:

There is also the very real possibility they call down with any 2, not the best for tournament life.

it seems the consensus is against A9 in this spot. A9 and AT have always been a struggle for me in preflop selection on shorter handed tables or nearing push/fold stage. card dead tilt may have been a factor.

If not here then you are essentially waiting for the range above, which isn't bad but you lose a lot of the fold equity you have at this point in the game.

that was basically my mindset on that hand. however, i did not really expect a call from A-rag. or random K-highs either. i was definitely hype on my fold equity there, especially considering the tight play due to points considerations.

As out of character as this sounds I would fold here. First on the bubble, I don't want to call down all-in pre with anything less than AQs, AKo or QQ+. Even some of those don't feel good. Now this villain could be shoving any 2, or they've had a few Ax,Kx,Qx combos. Jamming into a BB big stack is a bit alarming as well. Personally I would wait for a better spot or for someone else to catch him. These are tough hands to fold especially when you just want to knock out the jamming donkey.
I will say this I am also less liokely to call down one of these players if I find they've annoyed me with this sort of play.

fair enough. he had certainly annoyed everyone by then. he was almost knocked out at one point, but chipped up twice against the other two players. my concern was that he had scared them off from calling after that, and while my stack wasn't tiny, it was definitely the short stack at the table.

i ended up calling. he showed QJ and hit a J on the river. good game. Smiley
968  Economy / Economics / Re: US is so poor that president trump constantly attack China. on: May 19, 2020, 10:58:47 PM
^China is a tax free country for income group $520 to $745
Please use after tax income to calculate.
In China $745 is the take home income and zero taxation.

whether workers are taxed on their take-home income doesn't change the initial cost of labor to manufacturers.

even if we do account for this: the standard deduction is $12200 for individuals in the USA. that means the first $12200 is not taxable.

based on your numbers, for typical chinese manufacturing laborers, the first 115 hours are not taxed. for typical american manufacturing laborers, the first 750 hours are not taxed. without researching the actual tax rates (they both have progressive income taxes topping out at 45% and 37% respectively) that implies american workers are paid even higher when considering take-home pay.

In China, big business rich people pay the most in tax while poor people pay zero tax.

it all comes down to profitability. china has big corporate tax loopholes just like the USA. if it wasn't profitable to manufacture there then businesses would leave. it's that simple.
969  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: GAMBLING: Skill-based vs. Chance-based on: May 19, 2020, 10:38:02 PM
You were right - a chance for any another pair to win against AA is just 18.82 %

AND BECAUSE OF THIS MY ASSHOLE BURNS MUCH MORE WHEN I HAVE AA CALLING ALL IN AND A GUY WITH 33 WINS BECAUSE HE GET THIRD 3 ON RIVER  Angry Angry Angry

P.S:
And yeah, mu calculations is enough close to what shows in this site, i'm satisfied  Smiley
And yeah, i found why they have 19.251 and I 18.82 . They do not substract the probability that you get Four of a kind.

the other thing to consider is the small probability that either hand makes a straight.

against AA, pocket pairs between 55 and TT are slightly stronger than KK because they are more likely to hit a straight. KK needs 9-K or T-A to hit a straight, which means the pocket AA blocks 2 of his outs to a straight.

if i understood right, T9s means two nines

two nines = 99
two tens = TT
T9s = 10-9 suited
970  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: I'm just mad at chipmixer team on: May 19, 2020, 01:27:32 AM
It's an issue that CM could resolve by adding time to age their chips prior to releasing them.  I doubt they like that prospect, since most of the time this isn't an issue, but when blocks are full and fees are huge it does pose a challenge for their clients.

it's a difficult problem to solve on a dynamic/automated level. no matter how good fee estimation algorithms are, there are always unknowns and congestion can throw a wrench into things.

miners cleared the mempool down to 3 sat/byte this morning and the OP hasn't been back since, so chances are that this has been resolved.

chinese labor isn't that cheap anymore, but it's still cheaper than american.
Nope, Chinese is not cheap, it’s the US who’s cheap. Chinese are the most expensive talent to hire. Many Chinese are highly paid than many US cheap CEO.

i'm not sure what kind of "talent" you mean, but i thought we were talking about manufacturing labor costs.

in china, labor cost is estimated to be around $6.50/hour.
https://www.statista.com/statistics/744071/manufacturing-labor-costs-per-hour-china-vietnam-mexico/

in the USA, the median wage for manufacturing workers is $16.26/hour. even the lowest paid 10% earns $9.77/hour.
https://www.bls.gov/oes/current/oes519199.htm

chinese labor has become more expensive than mexico, vietnam, or bangladesh but definitely not the USA.
972  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2020-04-26] Global Deflation May Not Be Bad News for Bitcoin on: May 18, 2020, 09:45:27 PM
Thank you! To be honest, I had no idea about those tools. Smiley

So, there is some positive correlation between BTC's and some other top assets' performance.

But now I am a bit confused. Does it mean that people who want to diversify their investments won't be looking into Bitcoin's direction because they should rather be investing in asset classes that demonstrate little or no correlation to one another?

something to consider is that correlation =/= they have the same returns. bitcoin obviously has much higher upside potential because the supply is so scarce and the market is so illiquid.

the correlation won't hold forever either. who knows where all this money printing will lead? runaway inflation could cause a big separation of "soft assets" like stocks and "hard assets" like gold and bitcoins.

Since democrats elected Biden there already no any another result than Trump victory. I will bet a little, but it's not interesting anyway. Another 4 years with Trump is coming  Grin
Do you think that Trump is still a popular leader in united states ? He has taken many decisions in his tenure which are not been popular amount the public.
I don't think people will again vote him to be their president for another 5 years.

incumbent leaders typically get a big popularity boost during major crises. trump's approval rating is up 7-8% from the trough, despite his administration's utter failure vs the coronavirus pandemic. people also prefer a tough talking "wartime" type president like trump in times like these, rather than a weak pro-establishment dud like joe biden.

between the coronavirus scare, the democrats fracturing between centrists and center-leftists, and the fact that he is the incumbent, trump has a strong chance of winning in november.

according to betfair's odds, the likelihood of a trump victory just went up 1% (to 49%) over the last day or two. biden is still at 42%. https://odds.watch/trump-2020
974  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Poker talk - Specifically Hold'em - Hands and or strategy on: May 18, 2020, 09:14:11 PM
I remember that hand very well and I think it was an ok move from you to go all-in. Was a bit surprised with what hand 1r0n1c called it, but T9s is good enough in this spot imo.

he had just lost a big hand for like half his stack the hand prior to this. i didn't take that into consideration when i jammed. i wonder if he normally would have called down that light.

The A9 in hand #1 I would throw away with one limper Grin Just a nightmare to play post-flop, if you don't hit and have only 12.5BB behind. Even if you hit the A, you don't really know where you stand, so you would have to invest some more chips to find out Wink

that's why i'm thinking about it only from "push or fold" perspective. not interested in playing that postflop with that stack. it seemed like a decent spot to steal with one limper but.....too marginal you think?

I am not in the position to give you advice, but I think you are too tight in the middle to latter stages of a tournament from what I observed (I have the same "problem" btw^^). That is why you have good results, but it's missing top results. I know it's hard to go against your temper, but you should be more aggressive, while you are still in the middle of the pack chip-wise and before being forced to go into push/fold mode as short stack due to blinds rising.

i agree. i've been trying to adjust from an old school TAG style (which is not as effective these days as it once was) to more LAG recently, but old habits die hard. some rungood re set mining or draws in the early stages and i can get chip bullying but it's been a tough run lately.

i'm out in 6th. Undecided

the table was still very tight at the time. it folded around to me with T9s on the BTN w/ 9bbs left and the other 2 short stacks on the blinds. i did not want a call, but i figured i had very strong fold equity vs them considering how strong my preflop shoves had been and how tight the table was acting + strong (likely) live cards. 1r0n1c snap called with A6o though:

it seemed like a really light call to me for his whole stack. oh well, it's tough to win if you can't take down a couple of these crucial 50-50 flips. no dice this time. at least i snagged a few points towards the championship.

pretty disappointing weekend overall. no action on monsters, not winning enough flips. i'm gonna play in "the little BTC" and event #166 later, let's see if i can turn it around......

i was pretty short-stacked coming into the final table. fortunately i was dealt JJ at a crucial time and won a flip vs AKo.

there are still 7 of us at the 3rd break! blinds are super high vs stacks. the biggest stack (@bitmutiny/imaginethat) only has 24 bbs. this has been a very tight/intense final table---lots of push/fold poker going on. there should be several knockouts coming soon.....
