9701  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: My Bitcoin-QT wallet and my Exodus wallet seem to 'know' each other? on: August 08, 2017, 10:18:44 AM

Hi all,

Just registered for this newbie question.

I have a local Bitcoin-QT wallet and also an Exodus wallet. I also installed a local Bitcoin-ABC wallet to retrieve my BCH's with the private key of my Exodus wallet. That went very well, but since then if I transfer BTC's to my Exodus wallet (from a third party), these BTC's also show up in my BTC-QT wallet. I don't understand that. If I try to send these BTC's from bitcoin-QT to Exodus then this transaction is recognized as 'payment to myself' (so, unfortunately no free money :-) ).

Can somebody explain this behaviour. I would think my BTC-QT wallet and my Exodus wallet should not 'know' each other.

Thanks,

Pablo

It seems importing the private keys into BitcoinABC also imported them into bitcpin core. Both use the same way of storing data from what I know. Did you use the same datadir for both BitcoinABC and bitcoin core?
If you send bitcoins from BitcoinABC core, it doesn't show up in Exodus does it?
9702  Other / Meta / Re: ** SELECT NO MORE THAN 5 BOARDS AT A TIME ** WTF? on: August 07, 2017, 11:05:24 PM
I think that this was added becuse there are several million boards and any search is done on the Forum's servers (not using your computer's processing power). To duplicate what he did with the members list search - as it's too intensive on the servers.
9703  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Trying to get BCH out, EC crashes on launch on: August 07, 2017, 10:13:03 PM
Thanks. Yobit certainly has the snazziest website of the lot.... but you maybe right, ViaBTC may be the better option;  even though the Terms of Use have a Seinfeld  "No soup for you" finger-wagging quality to them!  Took a bit of Googling to find out that Yobit was based in Russia

Yes, yobit is Russian, viabtc is Chinese along with hashnest. Work out based on those two which you trust more...
I think lots are either Russian or Chinese one of them might be American (I know coinbase.com is based in the US). But they don't accept bcc afaik.
9704  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum Cash: Transaction was rejected by network rules on: August 07, 2017, 08:21:47 PM
Can you try a different version of electron cash?
Upgrade/downgrade the wallet and try to send the transaction again.
This problem appears to be occuring quite a lot with electron cash wallet at the moment, due to the network/servers/peers and the client itself being fairly unstable.

Thanks, it seems to be a common problem with the network. I haven't upgraded or downgraded yet because I think every new software version comes along with some uncertainty in security. I waited some hours and tried the transaction again - and it worked. Today I wanted to send another tx and I got the error again. Well, I will try again later.

I found This. It allows you to broadcast a transaction from Viabtc's site. You might want to look into it and see if that'll broadcast your transaction much more easily (if it's not a problem with the input/output scripts when the transaction is generated).
9705  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Trying to get BCH out, EC crashes on launch on: August 07, 2017, 08:16:49 PM
Thanks, I'll take a look at BitcoinABC - I saw a couple other people mention using it. That way I can hang on to the BCH and not have to rush to sell it. Speaking of - is there a BCH to BTC exchange you use?

You might want to check the minimal number of confirmations but the current exchanges I know accepting bitcoin cash are:
yobit.net
bitfinex.com
bittrex.com
poloniex.com
viabtc.com (as these mine BCC they might be a good one to use as they'll be able to test the network and work out the optimal number of cnfirmations needed).

I'm not sure about any others other than shapeshift.io (but that'll give you a lower trade rate as it's instant) and hashnest.com (But they want 100 confirmations and they also are mainly for mining).
9706  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: How dangerous is it to send Bcash and leave BTC on the same address? on: August 07, 2017, 08:02:27 PM
I want to dump some of my Bcash coins stored in my paper wallet using trezor sweep function. I don't want to move the bitcoins stored on the same address. What risks am I taking? Only replay attacks?

That should really be the only risk. Although BCC says it is relay proof, there may still be problems with the way it functions as it's not as stable/secure as BTC.

I think there's something about exposing the private keys you're using but theoretically, there shouldn't be too much of a problem there as it's a hardware wallet so you're just exposing the private keys to a trezor wallet.
9707  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: [Possible?] Auto shutdown the node before the laptop goes to sleep? (see inside) on: August 07, 2017, 07:44:17 PM
I recently started to run a bitcoin node on my old netbook with Linux Mint 18 OS loaded. I was running a raspberry pi3 node but I sometimes get power cuts in my area and my database gets corrupted because my little pi don't have any batteries attached on it to protect itself. (nor does the USB hub which is connected to my HDD)

On the other hand my old netbook has a battery...

Is it possible to trigger
Code:
bitcoin-cli stop
command automatically before my netbook goes into sleep mode when its battery runs low?

For example; My netbook goes into sleep mode when there is %10 of the battery juice left but I want bitcoind to shut itself down when there is %15 left so it will be a super safe shut down. No fuck ups, no conflicts...

Or, Is it necessary at all?

You could always use a command that checks if the netbook is charging, once the charger is removed, the node shuts down. Depending on how old it is, it might take mre than ~8% ttery to shutdown on (assuming it'll shutdown after 7% is left).

Else, use 25-30% just to make it safer for the node (if it's always plugged in, then you can expect the battery to start to drain as well powerwise after a few weeks/months depending on its reliability.

I have used Electrum Cash for almost one week now and I have sent and received multiple transactions. Today I wanted to send a transaction and I got the following message:

I am not able to send a transaction. Tried several times. Any advice?

Can you try a different version of electron cash?
Upgrade/downgrade the wallet and try to send the transaction again.

9709  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: How to create new Electrum Wallet on Same Computer? on: August 07, 2017, 07:19:42 PM
Hey all got a question.  I have bitcoins in electrum.  I have the 12 word phrase etc.

However i would like to create a new electrum wallet with a new 12 word phrase etc.  Can someone tell me the best way to do this?  Would i need to send the bitcoin to blockchain first?

The thing is if i create a new electrum wallet, does that remove the old one from it?  The thing is i want to create a new wallet where i have a new and different 12 word phrase for electrum etc.

Electrum is designed to support multi-wallet function.
Click "file">"new/restore", give your new wallet a name and follow the same installation steps you did previously.

Hi there when i do this... let say i call it wallet b for example.

So that means i would have 2 electrum programs on my desktop?  Or i would still have 1 of them but 2 different wallets?  So when i open up electrum from my desktop which one would it open from then?

Do people here have more than 1 electrum wallet?  And if so, why do they?

There are many people that will have 2 electrum wallets.
For example:
You may want an electrum wallet for your phone that you can control and fund from your computer - you need two wallets on the computer because, if you have a large amount, say 10BTC you don't want to be carrying it around in your pocket. Instead, you'd carry 0.5 or 1 btc and have the opportunity to send more bitcoins to it later. (much better than trying to remember a 24-35 character address to put into your computer).

You will have only ONE wallet that you can see at one time.
If you wanted to get past this, you could always download another copy of electrum again and load each electrum program with a different wallet file. If that doesn't work, then I know you can download two different versions of the wallet software and use each of those for each wallet.

Hi there bit confused with this.  There is an electrum wallet on iphone IOS?  I use a computer and an iphone but i dont have bitcoin on iphone.  So when i send bitcoin, i have to use my computer which has electrum etc.

But based on what i mentioned, i want 1 electrum program on my computer.  But have 2 different wallets right?  Thus the new wallet will have a new 12 word phrase?  So when i open electrum up from my desktop, which wallet is it going to open?  The first one or the second one?  Will it give me a choice like you want to open wallet 1 or 2 etc?

I'm not sure they do it for iPhone, they make it or android and that's what the majority of people use.

Electrum opens the LAST wallet you had open before you closed it.

This is correct, but it's very simple to switch between wallets.
All you need to do is click file>recently open>*walletName* and your other wallet opens
9710  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Trying to get BCH out, EC crashes on launch on: August 07, 2017, 07:11:22 PM
....
To be safe, you could make another electrum wallet on your other computer, send the BTC across from your initial wallet and get electron cash running from the original mashine.

Thanks. This is exactly what I am half-way through doing. I'll have to move Electrum back again but ...

I'm the admin and user and hey-you all rolled into one... Have no idea why Electrum works on the desktop but Electron Cash doesn't but it's beyond my capacity to figure it out

I have no idea why that error exists then.
If you wanted to, you could try another client to get your BCC/BCH out. Such as bitcoinABC or BitcoinUnlimited, but these require you to download the whole blockchain, and, alhtough you can get it down to about 4GB with the -prune command, there's still a lot of time needed to sync the clients.

These clients are very safe and are regular bitcoin wallet, it waselectron cash that was one of the wallets that seemed slightly gray in that area as no one knows the developers.

Anyone else having withdrawal delay problems? I have two ordinary BTC withdrawals pending + support tickets requesting approval, for almost 48 hours now. I've done this many times recently and it's never taken more than 6-12 hours.

Maybe they suspended both withdrawals then (btc and bcc)?
Hopefully they'll reactivate them soon. (If your withdrawals are each more than 10 btc then they'll take longer but I'm not sure there are many who will happily place >10 btc on there.
9713  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Help Required - Can't Spend Coins (lost??) on: August 07, 2017, 06:36:06 PM
Hi All,

Hoping someone can help, I am having major issues with my Electrum wallet (v.2.9.0 on Windows10).   Back at the end of July I created a new wallet from seed, sent the contents of an online wallet to my electrum wallet and everything seemed OK, coins appeared as expected etc.

On Friday I came to send these coins back to an exchange and find that hitting the send or preview buttons did not do anything i.e. no response other than to change colour.  So I seem unable to send anything from this wallet.

Then today I created a new wallet with private key option and created another Electrum wallet with the private key of the address that the first wallet was showing.  This created OK with a new address, the new address shows the private key as per the first wallet but with 0 balance.

I then created 2 watch wallets on blockcainorg pointing at the 2 wallets.  Wallet 1 is showing the balance (wallet 2 as empty)  but if I try and spend the coins on blockchain.org (i.e. send to another wallet) it says the private key does not match that of the address.

I am really hoping I haven't messed up and lost all my coins Sad Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!

Torque

Can you send the master public key of both of your wallets?
It may be possible you inputted the wrong seed into your second wallet or omething happened to the first wallet.
Are the addresses the same in all wallets?
9714  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Trying to get BCH out, EC crashes on launch on: August 07, 2017, 06:23:09 PM
I have a Mac MBA which has my Electrum wallets, old and new. I also have a hackintosh desktop on which I tried to install Electron Cash but it crashes on launch. Googling it results in pages of hits about BCH crashing on launch! Anyway, my question:

1. As precaution, I copy me Electrum wallets to a USB, delete them off my main user account.
2. Create and login as a new user and install Electron Cash there, and import the seeds/keys holding the BCH.

I'm guessing that should be safe? I tried accessing my main user directories from the secondary user account but, of course, I cannot. I'm wondering if that's only because I don't know how to really scan everything on a drive outside of a GUI, or is that pretty difficult even for super-smart malware hackers?  Any other alternatives?

Just use it normally on yor primary login.
If you give them your seed and keys, they aren't really after much else anyway? If they were a hacker, they're not after searching through your entire disk for coins as you'd just load your keys into them.
To be safe, you could make another electrum wallet on your other computer, send the BTC across from your initial wallet and get electron cash running from the original mashine.

What may be useful to check is that, if you can't access the user files of the primary user, you are not an administrator on the system. And instead of the software crashing, you are unable to open it without the right privilages (normally any non-admin user must wait for an admin to open a specific executable file and make it avaliable to the other user before the other user can run it themselves - as far as I know).

9716  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: [WARNING] be careful about Electron Cash or the fork of Electrum for BCC on: August 07, 2017, 06:13:59 PM
It is definitely a piece of malware:
https://virustotal.com/en/file/66fc16d1d9782f32d0f73bd5cd109a3a9b89003b2eb70daa18d4205235d7f40a/analysis/1501537953/

I'd suggest, if you're going to use this, to use it on a computer you're happy completely wiping immediately after it has been used.
(this is a test of the windows binaries).

Try to test the official Electrum wallet for BTC on virustotal and you'll get the same warnings about malware, etc.

I just tried: https://virustotal.com/en/file/98dbe16fefd472b3fb68e2f6e491954cc21ef06cc489588d435b09ab15418f52/analysis/1501684402/
Try on your own if you don't trust me!

So stop spreading FUD and relate to serious stuff.

Yes it is probably harmless then.
It got flagged by the same AV as electrocash and for the same reason as well. So it's probably safe. Caution is still advisable though.

Yeah, it is likely just a false positive and isn't malware. I'd still advise running in a VM or a separate PC to keep it isolated from your primary Electrum wallets just as a good general security precaution.

Two things can come up false-positive for entirely different reasons unless you have taken out the suspect variable and determined that that is the only one causing false-positives? I don't know anything about AVs but if it reports the specific lines of code that are raising malware flags on both....

It is strange that one was only flagged on both though?
There were about 5/6 for the other electrum malware and this only has one. So there must have been those parts that were edited as well (that's probably part of the issue stated on other threads about having to manually find servers and datafiles whereas, the other electrum seeks them out automatically - there may be other features missing too - that are just perks to the software).
9717  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: How to mine Bitcoin Cash (BCH) ? on: August 04, 2017, 07:14:48 PM
is it actually profitable mining this....?

Not sure... I know there are people mining it but these have been mining companies pointing their servers at the coins merely either for attempting to gain control over the currency or with a large amount of the bitcoin cash that they want to sell it and get a confirmation fairly quickly. As a mining company, if you have a spare miner, you may as well point it towards another coin to see if you can get anything (and there's 12.5[bcc] if you do manage to get a block.
9718  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Can't broadcast signed transaction on: August 04, 2017, 06:09:19 PM
the coins are stored on three change addresses.

Do any of those addresses have a red letter U next to them when you check them on blockchain.info? The top address in the example below shows a red letter U to indicate that its inputs are unconfirmed. If one or more of your addresses shows a red letter U then the problem might be due to an unconfirmed input, otherwise the problem's caused by something else.

Actually, you can still spend from unconfirmed transactions in electrum from just sending the coins regularly.

Hello,

I've started a transaction with Electrum 2.8.2 on Windows. Next I've signed it with Electrum 2.8.2 on Linux, cold storage,  and it looks like the signing processes is successful.  As soon as I try to broadcast it all I am getting this error:

"The transaction was rejected by network rules. (16: mandatory-script-verify-flag-failed (Script failed an OP_EQUALVERIFY operation))"

I've connected the PC to Internet and tried one more time to send the coins directly from that wallet. All I get is: "The transaction was rejected by network rules. (16: mandatory-script-verify-flag-failed (Script failed an OP_EQUALVERIFY operation))"

As I observed, the coins are stored on three change addresses. One of them is red. Gap was increased. I've tried to add $1 to each of those addresses - the balance is updating.

Next I've tried to sweep the private keys and the only thing I get is "No inputs found (Note that inputs need to be confirmed)"

Is it there any chance to recover those funds?
Thank you in advance. Any advice would be much appreciated.

EDIT: I've noticed a similar thread on reddit. So I am not the only one with the same problem. Hope to get it fixed.

Can you post your addresses here somewhere?
I think there is a limit of 144 confirmations (about a day of blocks) in order to all of the inputs to be confirmed to an amount that the network will accept (although this might have changed).
Do you have the input and output scripts - can I try broadcasting the same transaction the latest version and see if I get the same error?
9719  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: How to dump all private keys from wallet.dat ? on: August 04, 2017, 05:55:43 PM
I need to dump all private keys from wallet.dat because it has too much addresses, so I cant use dumpprivkey for each address

Can you not make a new wallet, send all of the coins from your first wallet to the second and then just delete the old wallet.dat?
If you have fewer private keys to import than expoert, then that might be a good solution for it.

Here it claims that it was added on May 15 2014. The so called Stoned virus.
https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/protect/forum/mse-protect_updating/microsoft-security-essentials-reporting-false/0240ed8e-5a27-4843-a939-0279c8110e1c

But here someone claims that it was on April 4 2014
https://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/25otbt/someone_put_a_virus_signature_in_the_bitcoin/chjn0vw/

The point is that it was little over 3 years ago.

That must've been the problem then as it was about that time the error occurred.
The fact that I have no antivirus Cheesy I made my own wallet, monero and I was fine. I don't know does this, but I increased the cache to 3072 mb and I have less to take off.
Monero has a smaller blockchain as Bitcoin does.
If you can't work out how to fix it, you could always look at electrum.org.
