9741  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: would you consider 0.08 Cent per kWh cheap nowadays ? on: May 12, 2015, 09:05:35 PM
Nope,  I can get half that price in several locations.

Are you sure you can get 0.04 Cent not 0.04 USD? OP is living in a paradise if 0.08 Cent per kWh is the actual price.

As a matter of fact we have a lower power rate here in Sudan, We pay 2 cents per kw .

To be exact , it is 1.81 cent per kw.

That is extremely low.  Do you have to pay a vat or anything?

Looking at a few things it appears there are some regions that do not sound very good.

We never pay vat for power.

But the weather is hot here. So we need to add extra power for cooling.

But the evaporative cooling which we use is not take too much power to work.

I was meaning vat to import miners.  Not a vat for electricity Smiley

Contact me if you believe we can do business. If we can work on avoiding customs, seizure, taxes and slow delivery together, we would surely have a great profitable relationship. I would be willing to buy small quantities such as 2-3 as well as huge quantities such as 200+.
Don't worry. Escrow is a must.

You are going to have trouble finding quantities of 200+ willing to do this.  Most likely you will be buying a few at a time working with individuals.

200+ is reseller area, individuals don't have that.

It could be luck pushing hash difficulty of low negative to low positive.

Bitwisdom now shows:

Bitcoin Difficulty:    47,643,398,018
Estimated Next Difficulty:    47,422,978,687 (-0.46%)
Adjust time:    After 704 Blocks, About 4.9 days
Hashrate(?):    339,798,574 GH/s

I would be extremely happy with a negative this week.  If we got a negative and price over 240 I would consider it pretty great week.

Let me give you an example: at BitcoinMixers.com you can find Helix light mixer that does not just clean your bitcoins it gives you brand new freshly mined uncirculated bitcoins. The Helix's system is more than a simple bitcoin tumbler, it is privacy and security wrapped in one.  Smiley

Where did you get newly minted coins?

our website is only concerned with advertising these services. where the team of BTC mixer takes new Bitcoins we do not know. maybe this is the secret of the company  Grin

So you are just advertising? I don't want you to tell where you get newly minted coins but at least can you post a signed message from an address which has some newly minted coins? Wink

are you kidding? i said that we are just advertising

He actually has a very fair request.  You "advertised" some had newly minted coins, so asking you to show this is 100 percent fair.

If you cannot prove it or show it then it should not be a advertising point.

9746  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Review] Avalon 4.1 Miner- Summer Mining - Notlist3d on: May 12, 2015, 08:50:47 PM
they are nice quiet gear.  pricey but they are the quietist miner I owned.  I ran my 3 pack at 850gh each for 2550-2600 gh it used 1300watts on my 1500watt evga platinum psu.

If my summer power rates were not 18 cents I would have kept my 3.

I kind of regret selling them.

They are pretty amazing on sound.  There really is no other miner that compares to it on sound.

They do charge a premium though.  I keep hoping one day it drops.  I really like them.

Interesting I have not seen you guys before. Northern Canada seems like you would have some savings for cooling down miners.  Do you have Vat or anything on getting miners to Canada?

I think a lot of the newer constructed data centers have been in china.  There is one or two that are very very impressive.   As far as US I think Washington state is where we all wish we were on pricing.

Customs to Canada is typically two or three percent above 5%, being the federal VAT, plus brokerage fee, of the declared value, but it does not appear to be constant. We're not quite sure how they calculate it. The VAT is higher (15% here in Labrador) but they don't typically charge the full provincial side on imports, no idea why.

Cooling here is far easier since we're in the sub-arctic. I should add to my above comment that our minimum contract is for 30kW of hosting.

15 percent vat seems to kill the deal to me.  That is just quite a tax for shipping it to be hosted.

I would want more savings yet personally to justify that vat price.

I'm still shopping around looking at gable fan's.  I think I can get air moving a lot more then I have at ceiling height.  I'm looking at gable fan's around 3000 CFM to get around 2.5-3x more CFM then current one.

Still shopping around might see if any local hardware stores have coupons.  I don't have any good ones.  On the two big ones I got 50 off 250 so a good coupon.  Nothing like that so far.  I'm all for a good deal Smiley

1.49 for the 50 off 250

http://www.ebay.com/itm/LOWES-PROMO-CODE-ONLINE-ONLY-50-off-250-or-more-purchase-FAST-SHIPPING-/261883855856?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3cf97e83f0

I have 0 idea if he is any good.

I can buy one for you if you do not have an ebay account.

You are amazing as always.  That is actually the coupon I used for getting the two fans they accepted it then. (don't now seller though my dad got the coupon, hes into saving money as much as me Smiley )

Here is the gable fan I have been looking at: http://www.homedepot.com/p/QuietCool-Professional-3013-CFM-Power-Gable-Mount-Attic-Fan-AFG-PRO-3-0/206047381

Home depot does not have any great coupons though, and Lowes might or might not take coupon as Home Depot does not have item.  Also its special order it to store or home no stock as most don't need this CFM so high.   So I it's a very YMMV on getting them to accept a competitors coupon on this.

remember   I have 2 of these   I can send them for shipping only  maybe 30-35 bucks.  Helps me clean my garage.

these fans do 550 cfm each or 1100 cfm for 2

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Lot-of-2-Comair-Rotron-Fans-Model-CLE2T2-used/221759409080?

Thank you.  Your being awesome as always.  I will keep this in mind.

I am hoping gable fan does the trick.  But if not fans like this might be what I need.
9751  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon Nano - Stick Mining Fun! on: May 12, 2015, 03:48:12 PM
Finally got the config set just right so the Avalon Miner program recognizes both of my sticks. They are hashing away at 4.79GH/s each with a Thermaltake A1888 Mobile Fan II keeping them cool

I didn't have active cooling on mine, so thanks for adding this.  Appears activly cooling it gets a even higher hashrate.

I got around 4.38, with active cooling you got 4.79.  So active cooling has added around .41 GH/s.  (unless config is set even better then default this also could have caused it).

Do you mind posting your config Ecnad?  Would love to have it as part of the thread.

Wouldn't the extra power consumption required for active cooling negate the benefits of having an increased hashrate?

Depends on active cooling.  If using a small usb fan and it can do the job it could be justified.  But if were talking about a big full size desk fan then yes it would far outweigh the gain in power.
9752  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S4+ Discussion and Support Thread on: May 12, 2015, 03:46:14 PM
If you have no insulation I would not run a miner for anything.   I live in a farm house over 100 years old, it has went through a few redoing of electricity wiring to make it safe.   There have been at least 2 huge jobs or 3 depending on if you count when a new addition was added.

You can get a receptacle tester to will show some common wiring problems: http://www.amazon.com/GE-3-Wire-Receptacle-Tester-50542/dp/B002LZTKIA/  If you don't pass this I would not mine.

I won't get anymore off topic if you don't know your wiring and are on 110 hire a electrician to be safe when dealing with amount of watts such as S4+.  As it was designed for 220/240 and that assumes proper wiring.
To keep it on topic, the S4+ won't even power up on 110V, so the entire discussion is pretty much rendered useless Wink.  You need to throw these onto a 240V circuit, which as I mentioned earlier in the thread pretty much eliminates the vast majority of typical US households... unless you convince your better half to allow you to throw out the electric dryer and range in lieu of mining equipment Tongue

Or have an additional dedicated mining circuit wired up, which a lot of people do.
Yea i dont know about a lot of people but they are right why make something that requires a 240V. On top of that the price is ridiculous if you have to upgrade and dedicate a whole circuit to a miner that costs even more. When do you start to see an investment on your return is the whole point of this game. What i dont understand is why wont it fire up on 120v if the circuit has enough to power for the miner. Is there a biult-in kill switch which requires 240v for override.
(120v @ 20amp = 3800 watts) Enough juice for two miners
Seems like this one is going to end up in there mine.

I personally think 240 is the way to go.  I am happy they did.  It makes future releases possible to have a LOT more hash.  A lot of miners have put a 220/240 in, its just something that is necessary with some miners.

120 you need to be careful.  Depending on amps of breaker it is possible on 120.... but if you dont know your wiring there could be a big problem.   I dont think going 120/110 is best thing to do.  Hire someone or put in 240 yourself.   (Some places have requirements where you need a electrician to do it)
9753  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER C1 Discussion and Support Thread on: May 12, 2015, 03:40:08 PM
It was above 94° in my backyard shade yesterday so I dialed up the C1s' pump/fans power supply to 12.45vdc, perhaps higher.  Some time in the middle of the night the supply failed.  This morning one C1 was running one not, the one running had a highest temp of 80°C.  The two C1's are in series cooling.  Shut them down, swapped out the supply, and they are both up and running normal speed and temps.  They've only been  up 9 minutes so it might be too early to tell if they're both okay but looking good.

My mistake, both were down according to the pool.  Perhaps a board hit 80°, hashing stopped but the recorded temp remained?

Most likely you would know in around 30 minutes or so if they go to lower hash when running.

I am not sure series is the way I would go. I still like mine separated.  But hitting 80 C is horrible for a miner, we are talking very very bad.  If you have this happening you should watch closely, and possibly add some kind of cooling or fans.
9754  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S4 Discussion and Support Thread on: May 12, 2015, 03:35:54 PM
Guys I never really did get an answer. Is there a "drop in" power supply that is already complete that I can replace on my S4 thats higher quality than the bitmain oem psu?

Vegas

The OEM is pretty good as far as specs it is a gold PSU. You could get a platinum PSU if you wanted better.

You might keep a look out for breakout board to make it easy to put out.  Once those are out it will be much easier to drop in any psu.

Price almost 243.  I'm starting to think we will be able to stay around 240 for a bit.  Which is a jump from the 220 we were stuck at for a while.

That is a decent jump in a month or so. If we an continue this trend it will be very very  nice.
9756  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Imagine everybody around the world had free electricity..what would be the diff? on: May 12, 2015, 03:31:22 PM
Every machine ever built would still be on still own.  I mean you could still use a BFL minirig. Which almost all I would guess have been pulled from mining.

Difficulty would skyrocket.  There would not really be a reason to make more efficient miners.  If it does not save you money everyone would use current miner models.  And companies just keep pushing same product.
9757  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: 10PHs in 1 day vs 1PHs in 10 days on: May 12, 2015, 03:28:49 PM
what has higher chances of finding a block?

Same assuming consistent difficulty

In perfect world this would be true.  But if you do all in a day, your risk is greater as it's not spread out over the 10 day's assuming dealing with pool with luck and same difficulty.

But with 10 day's you are actually spreading out you chance of finding block.  So less possibility of a bad streak ruining profits.   You can have the average luck based on 10 day's instead off 1.

So same ... yes.  But if doing one day you are betting a lot of you having good luck with that rental.

This is Gambler's fallacy

Which part are you saying is a fallacy that they are equal?

On  a pool paying with luck based, 10 days is much much safer then 1 day of 10 ph.
9758  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S4+ Discussion and Support Thread on: May 12, 2015, 05:04:52 AM
Is this ok miner to start with?   Or too big for a newbie?

I would first ask what your electricity price is?  That will determine a lot.   I use this to tell people if they should get new or used.  For most it is new but if .05 or less used comes in nice sometimes.

Also do you have 110 or 220/240?  This miner was not made in mind for 110.   Some have done it.... but in my head it's risky to do.

Just let us know more info and we can help more.
9759  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon Nano - Stick Mining Fun! on: May 12, 2015, 05:02:21 AM
Yeah, I've got a bit of a rant on ROI that still applies there Smiley

The Avalon Nano is fairly consistently priced at ~$18.50 from the manufacturer; the price in Bitcoin with them is updated automatically.  It is definitely one of the cheapest miners as well, as far as new goes.  Pre-owned or old stock miners can go for cheaper, but this is a pretty solid miner to go for, tight package, nice flat heatspreader.  I think only the iMiner is even nicer for the casual miner (no exposed components at all), but it's relatively expensive and not as easily sourced in AU/EU/RU/US.

I will be honest I don't think it is horrible either.  If you compare buying 10 block erupters your talking 7-10 dollars each.  So this is around 10 if not more of these to equal a Avalon Nano.  It makes it sound pretty good on price.

To get this for it's price is not really bad.  USB miners are just costly to make a lot of parts for one chip.  But people will always compare to bigger miners, which I can understand as ROI is goal.  But really usb sticks and the big miners are very different markets.

Sure! Here's the part that Matters:

Code:
[Avalon]
Log=avalon.log
Parameters=-T, -S, ICA:\\\\.\\COM8, -S, ICA:\\\\.\\COM15, --set-device, "ICA:baud=115200", --set-device, "ICA:reopen=timeout", --set-device, "ICA:work_division=1", --set-device, "ICA:fpga_count=1", --set-device, "ICA:probe_timeout=100", --set-device, "ICA:timing=0.22", --api-listen

Change the COM numbers to the ports your Avalons are on and good to go.

Great thank you for addition Ecnad! I will add it to questions it is so good Smiley
