981  Economy / Economics / Re: US is so poor that president trump constantly attack China. on: May 17, 2020, 06:24:55 PM
Nobody know why apple refuses to return to their home land, US has whatever China have, young talent, manufacturing fab, low cost labour that willing to work for Amazon, easy credit, raw materials, everything they wish for, but apple refuse to return.

chinese labor isn't that cheap anymore, but it's still cheaper than american.

the big draws IMO are very weak (basically nonexistent) unionization, lack of regulations (like environmental ones), cheaper raw material costs due to scale and sourcing from china itself, faster internal supply chains.....

trump did lower the hell outta corporate taxes, bringing them closer in line with china, which should make USA production more attractive. both countries allow for extreme corporate tax loopholes anyway though so i'm not sure how much of a difference the 2017 tax cuts made.

huhu, password please... Chips are out ✌️

where you been dude? PM sent.

sorry i didn't notice your post earlier @cygan. you gotta get yourself 1 krill so you can talk in the chat. Tongue

@Steamtyme first one knocked out today after that #2 run yesterday. i saw that turned flush vs rivered boat hand. brutal!
983  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Poker games that are providing free plays to earn real money on: May 17, 2020, 05:26:38 PM
You mean *high "skill" users* instead of *high "krill" users* at number one?

"krill" = VIP points on SwC Poker. https://swcpoker.eu/post/krill-rewards-program

at each of the successive ranks, you get more and more rakeback. at 500 cumulative krill, you get access to a couple daily freerolls and a weekly satellite into their monthly 0.75 BTC guaranteed tourney.

I can't find any free play in SWCPoker can you describe me that how can I join?

go to the tournaments > freerolls tab. there is a 10 chip freeroll currently in late registration. there are two more 2000 chip quarantine freerolls scheduled for later today.
984  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2020-04-26] Global Deflation May Not Be Bad News for Bitcoin on: May 17, 2020, 12:52:06 AM
To be honest, I see little to no correlation with the Bitcoin price here. But maybe I'm looking in the wrong places? Smiley

you really don't see it? Smiley

okay, let's try something else. asset correlations are measured on a scale of -1 to 1, with 0 indicating no correlation. 0.7-1 indicates a high level of positive correlation.

this is BTC-USD compared with the dow jones:

985  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Poker games that are providing free plays to earn real money on: May 17, 2020, 12:14:58 AM
But you may check sportsbet.io and betcoin.ag, as I know they are offering regular freeroll even with bigger prizepool.

the regular twice daily freerolls on sportsbet.io only have a prize pool of 0.001 BTC.

this one is actually worth playing:

they have been running a 0.04 BTC weekly password-protected freeroll for bitcointalk members, with an added bounty on steve's head. it happens on wednesdays at 7pm GMT. it's a nice little bankroll booster if you can make it to the final table.

keep an eye on their thread for the tourney announcement. if you snooze, you lose---no late registrations.
986  Economy / Economics / Re: The unfortunate event that is Quarantine. on: May 16, 2020, 11:23:31 PM
Second, you can't earn a living if you're dead, which is why quarantine is essential. Most countries don't have the health system to support multiple gravely ill people at the same time, which is where the quarantine comes in. No one says it's ideal but it's what you do when you're forced between amputating your hand so the whole body doesn't die. Mostly no one is enjoying this.

recent antibody studies seem to support that view. take spain for example: https://www.vox.com/2020/5/16/21259492/covid-antibodies-spain-serology-study-coronavirus-immunity

27,563 deaths but only 5% of the population has been infected. at 100% infection, you would then expect ~1.2% of the population (~560k) to die. and i think reasonable people will agree that overwhelming the health care system in that scenario would greatly worsen the death toll, perhaps exponentially so.

sadly we are nowhere near herd immunity. the outbreak we saw is tiny compared to how bad it could have gotten unchecked---or how bad it could still get in a second wave. going forward, quarantines are still the only realistic solution, and i expect we will continue seeing them implemented and relaxed repeatedly for months and probably years to come.
987  Economy / Gambling / Re: #2 Bitcointalk Poker Series (0.05 BTC & BIG BTC Ticket sponsored by SwC Poker) on: May 16, 2020, 10:46:29 PM

GG everyone. I finished off in #2. Not going to lie it was a disgusting beat. I finally caught arallmuus(TikTokLyfe) on their 10k 3-bets and jammed 99. They called with A4 and hit trips with the 4. GG I'm just salty but will be back again tomorrow, to try and take top spot.

I'll post the video tonight, in my discussion thread if anyone has spots they want to look at.

solid finish either way! thanks in advance, i'll have a look when you post the video. there are couple hands from today i'd like to discuss too.....

we will meet tomorrow guys , I'm short a lot of points with all these games that I missed

you're still tied for 5th place dude. Tongue good enough for a seat at the final table, for now.....
988  Economy / Economics / Re: The Coronavirus as A Means of Financial Reset on: May 16, 2020, 10:29:30 PM
If you can find a search engine that stills works. You can find sources which credit the new corona virus with having identical RNA sequences to genetic sequences found in HIV/AIDs.

News sources claim this is due to HIV and the corona virus sharing a common virus ancestor:

Source:  https://www.sciencenews.org/article/coronavirus-covid-19-not-human-made-lab-genetic-analysis-nature

It all depends on whether someone considers the above explanation to be valid or a pseudoscience attempt at applying political spin.

considering the report was redacted upon peer review, i wouldn't take it seriously. sharing a common ancestor means very little:

Quote
Most species of viruses are now known to have common ancestors, and although the "virus first" hypothesis has yet to gain full acceptance, there is little doubt that the thousands of species of modern viruses have evolved from less numerous ancient ones.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Viral_evolution#Origins

The new corona virus attacks the immune system virtually identical to HIV/AIDs. I don't think you're disputing this. It also has RNA sequences virtually identical to HIV/AIDs. This is the reason why initially it was treated with anti HIV/AIDs medication. Those span an amazing sequence of "coincidences" for those that believe in coincidence.

this is incorrect. HIV attacks CD4 cells, a specific type of white blood cell. that leads to an inability to fight off infections. SARS-CoV-2 does nothing like that whatsoever. it primarily infects the pharynx, airways, and lungs and often induces inflammatory responses much more similar to autoimmune diseases than diseases characterized by immunosuppression---literal opposites.

You're citing cytokine storms which can be fatal. Immunodeficiency can also be fatal. Both have been exhibited in the new corona virus. And they can both be present simultaneously.

i can't find any reports supporting this idea that the coronavirus causes immunodeficiency. people with compromised immune systems are certainly dying from it, but that would be expected with any deadly pathogen.
989  Economy / Gambling / Re: #2 Bitcointalk Poker Series (0.05 BTC & BIG BTC Ticket sponsored by SwC Poker) on: May 16, 2020, 07:04:42 PM
@tyKiwanuka short stacked with 3bbs. who's gonna take that 2k bounty?!

we're past the points bubble. it looks like @Iv4n and @Betwrong will solidify their lead in the standings after today's game.

Tell me about it man - been sucked out big time tonight and really remembering me why I stopped playing online poker for so many years...

no biggie, that's poker. some days you run good, some days you run absolutely atrociously. i just need to win a couple of these 70/30 or 60/40 spots next time around. runbad don't last forever. Smiley
990  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Poker games that are providing free plays to earn real money on: May 16, 2020, 06:55:44 PM
1. SWCPoker.eu - Free tournament every hour with 1000 satoshi reward. Quarantine special free tournament twice a day with 20,000 satoshis each. And other free tournaments for high Krill users.

the quarantine series (including the twice daily 2k chip freerolls) are ending tomorrow. only 4 more quarantine freerolls left.

most open freerolls aren't worth the time---big field, tiny prizes. private freerolls may be worth looking into though. for example, on ACR Poker, if you open up the tourney > private tab, there are several private freerolls for $100 or $250. you need to join the poker community in question (eg thenuts.com) to get the passwords.
991  Economy / Gambling / Re: #2 Bitcointalk Poker Series (0.05 BTC & BIG BTC Ticket sponsored by SwC Poker) on: May 16, 2020, 06:43:35 PM
terrible luck today. none of my premium hands held and i lost on a couple nasty river cards. i lost a preflop shove from @efialtis, KK to his AT, for like 30% of my stack shortly after the first break. it was all downhill from there.

knockout hand: i had 12bbs left, @cygan limps from late position, it folds to me in the SB with A9. i shove to steal the pot. he had limped QQ! Shocked

good game, hopefully the poker gods will pass me some of @Steamtyme's rungood tomorrow.
992  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: GAMBLING: Skill-based vs. Chance-based on: May 16, 2020, 06:17:06 PM
that's one reason to avoid oversized preflop all-ins, especially multi-way. too much chance, too much gambling. even AA will lose almost 1 out 4 times to mid suited connectors. a more marginal hand like AK suited will lose against any random hand 1 out of 3 times. i like to get my chips in after the flop, when the odds are more clearly in my favor.
I think the chance for AA to lose to any another pair is something like 1 out of 3 (i don't count exact probability, but from game theory it's looks like that)

here are some examples of preflop odds:

so AA is in a very dominant position---winning ~4 out of 5 hands---when the opponent is isolated. multi-way pots are much more of a gamble. AA in a family pot preflop won't even win a majority of the time so it's important to raise preflop. a lot of people slow play AA preflop and then end up in bad positions postflop.

the element of chance is crucial though---if there was no chance involved then donkeys wouldn't play poker because they would never win. this means we need to ride out the statistical variance and play statistically smart poker. in the long run, it's profitable.
Maybe, but even one game can be lost due to shit luck. So this can;t be considered only as skill game. Skill games it's chess or Go. Any gambling it;s more about gambling than skill. My opinion.

i would reverse it---it's a skill game with elements of chance. especially when you consider things like hand reading abilities. sports betting with good odds is never a sure thing either, but like poker, with a statistical edge, the game can be beaten over time.

you're right that the better player will not win 100% of the time, but over time as variance is played through, they will win much more often than worse players.

I am still in "Bitcointalk Anniversary Mood", so there will be another bounty tonight... knock out my bud tyKiwanuka aka EnterScreenN for a 2k chips bounty! Cool

thanks dude. too bad these bounties are never seated at my table. Tongue

i'm liking the feel of these 5k stacks btw.

Just under 3 minutes left looks like we have 15 registered, here's to hoping we see a few moire. I have the recorder set up so we'll have a video to recap, hopefully I catch the bounty on video. Good luck all.

glad you could make it. 17 in now. i guess we still have 55 min late registration so we could see another a straggler before the first break.

good luck everyone! is 10:25am too early to crack a beer? hard not to at the poker table lol. iv4n to my left on his second bottle of wine already. Cheesy
994  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: GAMBLING: Skill-based vs. Chance-based on: May 15, 2020, 09:16:42 PM
That's why I prefer skill-based game, so that when there's someone to blame, it is myself. The strategies and results are in my own hand, it is really much enjoyable if you are really playing instead of just waiting there for the outcome.
Yeah, for example poker, when you playing correctly due to your strategy, with a monster hand, call "all in" and finally lose to lucker. Heh, Such "enjoyable"

i know the feeling. it's never over until all the cards are dealt! Wink

995  Economy / Economics / Re: The unfortunate event that is Quarantine. on: May 15, 2020, 08:50:11 PM
This quarantine/outbreak/economic crisis isn't going to last forever, and I don't think it's going to last as long as many people seem to think it's going to.

the quarantine won't last forever. it's already ending.

however, the outbreak and all the social distancing stuff could be with us for years and years. a second wave is expected in the fall or winter. the WHO's chief scientist even thinks it will take 4-5 years to get under control: https://www.cnbc.com/2020/05/14/coronavirus-who-warns-it-could-take-up-to-5-years-to-control-pandemic.html

that's a realistic timeline for a vaccine too.

with that in mind, i foresee a lengthy economic disruption and some very big changes to the economy too. less physical shopping and entertainment and limited capacity is gonna be really, really hard on the brick and mortar economy. e-commerce behemoths like amazon are gonna continue consolidating market share.

i don't know that we'll have march/april levels of disruption again, but in many ways the damage has been done. the overall long term outlook is pretty worrisome IMO. the fed and other economists are expecting years of slow growth which means unemployment is gonna stay very high.
996  Economy / Economics / Re: The Coronavirus as A Means of Financial Reset on: May 15, 2020, 08:02:51 PM
was the 1918 flu manufactured too? there is a big difference between deliberately manufacturing a crisis, and exploiting an existing one in furtherance of power and financial gain. governments and political elites have a long history of the latter.
What would you think if a virus arose. That had all known symptoms of chickenpox while attacking the human immune system virtually identical to HIV/AIDs. If you were a scientist and needed to guess whether this new virus was naturally occurring or human engineered. What would your conclusion be?

It might help to think about scientists initially treating the new corona virus with anti HIV/AIDs medication due to it attacking the immune system virtually identical to how HIV/AIDs does. I think it would be accurate and fair to say the new corona virus is like a hybrid between SARS and selective portions of HIV. The SARS portion makes the virus airborne and very infectious while attacking the lungs. The HIV portion attacks the immune system for a two pronged assault. Going on basic science alone, when in history have we encountered something like this? People talk about it as if its the same as the 1918 pandemic. It might be fair & accurate to say the new corona virus is in many ways the complete opposite of the 1918 pandemic.

they are testing HIV treatments because they are antivirals, not because the viruses are particularly similar.

HIV causes immunodeficiency. if anything, SARS-CoV-2 does the opposite. the immune response to this coronavirus is commonly too strong and is often the underlying cause of death. this is why some doctors are treating patients with drugs indicated for autoimmune disorders---to stop their immune systems from killing them.

https://www.npr.org/sections/health-shots/2020/04/07/828091467/why-some-covid-19-patients-crash-the-bodys-immune-system-might-be-to-blame

in fact, it's believed the same exact mechanism is what killed so many young/healthy people during the 1918 flu:

Quote
And the virus that caused the 1918 flu pandemic is thought to have led to deadly cytokine storms in many of the outbreak's otherwise young and healthy victims.

viruses are constantly emerging and mutating. without any evidence of lab descent and this vast government conspiracy, occam's razor should apply.
997  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Bitcointalk Poker Series format discussion - Let's keep them all in one place. on: May 15, 2020, 07:41:08 PM
i think Hhampuz might be onto something here:

Now my idea for an implementation would be perhaps one game per week over 2 months as that could theoretically mean less variance and more stability as I know some people can't/don't want to commit both their Saturday and Sunday to play poker, depending on your timezone (I know current timezone makes it harder for any americans to play) it's quite the commitment indeed.

after the current series ends, maybe we should transition to once per week. a sunday poker game maybe? people with less free time to commit are more likely to participate in the league that way.

i'm down to play twice a week myself, but i think we can see from april vs may turnouts that not everyone feels that way.
998  Economy / Gambling / Re: #2 Bitcointalk Poker Series (0.05 BTC & BIG BTC Ticket sponsored by SwC Poker) on: May 15, 2020, 07:18:34 PM
Bigger starting stack should means longer games but depending on the number of people tomorrow , it might differ.

my sense of SwC's blind structure is the antes/blinds get very high in the mid/deep levels, so it may not extend things all that much. that's just a gut feeling though, i haven't done the math. we'll see how it goes tomorrow.

Unfortunately, there is less and less chance to get more players as our series goes on. Covid isolation measures are being reduced all around the world and with every tournament passed there is less chance for new faces to qualify for final table. This week I am expecting about 20 people, but the weeks after that I would be happy with even 15.

between the lockdowns being relaxed and the inviting spring weather, it may turn out that way. our tourneys are so early in the day for me that it's not an issue, but i get it.

see you guys at the tables tomorrow!
999  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Counting Cards -- a Dirty Cheat or a Legit Skill? on: May 15, 2020, 06:58:38 PM
For example, if you start to bet more (i.e. increase the stakes) after more cards are seen, this is kinda a sure sign that you are counting the cards (provided your own cards are good). Otherwise, there is no logic in raising the stakes. But then raising the stakes during the game should be prohibited to make counting cards an exercise in futility
gamblers often raise stakes after losing in a futile attempt to get back in the black. this is profitable for casinos who generally have an edge either way. they want people to raise stakes.

a better solution would be to shuffle when players increase the stakes. that gives the house their edge back.
Well, that's not what I mean

And this is probably not what is meant by card counting, either. I can't say that I'm much into card games (just curious), but in certain games (e.g. poker) you can raise stakes during the game (e.g. to make the other players fold). In this case, card counting refers to deducing what cards the other players might have by looking at what you yourself have been dealt and what cards have already been played.

obviously. Roll Eyes

i was responding to your point that casinos should prohibit raising stakes during the game to prevent card counters from having an edge.

this is how group card counting works:

1. the spotter plays the minimum and is the lead card counter
2. he signals the big bettor when the deck is hot (ie more likely to produce face cards and aces = better odds)
3. the big bettor raises the stakes

instead of prohibiting this type of action, casinos use a practice called "preferential shuffling". when stakes are raised mid-game, the decks are shuffled. this removes any card counting advantage but allows players to raise the stakes, yielding more profits for the casino.
1000  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Counting Cards -- a Dirty Cheat or a Legit Skill? on: May 14, 2020, 11:34:18 PM
worthy of mention are other techniques like shuffle tracking, ace sequencing, and hole carding---all of which (like card counting) are considered legal as long as you aren't using external devices or colluding. like card counting, they can get you banned from casinos when management catches on though.
