981  Other / Off-topic / Re: Youtube alternative supports BTC donations - FreeTube on: October 09, 2023, 07:57:49 PM
This is a wonderful innovation that I am really excited about. Lately, YouTube has grown so big that I feel it is saturated and this necessitate the need for alternatives. Freetube offering a decentralise alternative is a welcomed development.

I'm curious to know if it has the monetization feature of YouTube as well.
982  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Bitcoin investment and real estate investment, na which one get advantage pass on: October 09, 2023, 05:59:35 PM
Their two get their own peculiarity, advantages and disadvantages.  Real Estate require plenty money to start and no be for everybody. Risk wey dey there too plenty like buying land and property wey get small juju problem.

On the other hand, Bitcoin na something wey everybody fit do even with small money you don start am. Plenty grammar no dey for Bitcoin and from past history ... if you use the money to build house take buy Bitcoin leave am for ten years, e go give you plenty profit pass the building. You even fit take the profit build the latest house.

Therefore, mean I prefer Bitcoin o... the advantages too plenty abeg.
983  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Do crypto sport books have better odds than "licensed" ones? on: October 09, 2023, 04:32:02 PM
In my view most "licensed" betting companies are more shady than others.
While there are tendencies of licensed betting companies abusing their privileges, we should not ignore the risk posed by unlicensed betting companies. Personally, I have not had any issues with licensed betting companies in my country but there have been rumours of shady deals from a handful of them that operate internationally.  Nevertheless,  shady deals are not perculiar to licensed companies... this is why it is necessary to perform due diligence when choosing the company to use.

For instance, odds on online platforms that are licensed might tend to be worse than those that operate without being officially licensed but get around this by mostly accepting crypto deposits.
I don't think the odds have anything to do with being licensed or not because the competition now us so fierce that companies that even licensed companies uses good odds to remain in business.
984  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: If we lose in gambling, what do we need to do? on: October 09, 2023, 03:59:34 PM
If you already plan how much you are willing to risk, the loss will not be too painful. People enter into depression simply because of not decided how much they are willing to loose before placing the bet.

The odds in every gambling is against the player, the earlier we realise this, the better. Knowing this, one should plan his gambling in such a way as to accommodate losses that are inevitable.
985  Economy / Speculation / Re: Buy the DIP, and HODL! on: October 09, 2023, 01:58:15 PM
We saw Bitcoin price was stable at 30k USD few weeks back and then there is a dip triggered due to some news. Bitcoin in that DIP went down from 30k to 25k and that's the time where your nerves as a HODLER are tested. Its easy to say to HODL but not many can see there investment going down. That DIP is now over and Bitcoin price is moving up towards 30k again. If you have bought Bitcoin when it was down then surely you are getting some profit at the moment. Accumulating more when Bitcoin is down is more beneficial then when its up.
Before now, I was buying Bitcoin at different price points right from the $29k zone down to below the $25k zone with pending orders even around the $20k zone. But since I learnt about the DCA method, I have been using it to buy and it's been so wonderful. Now I do not pay much attention to the price as I have certain amount of dollar I convert to Bitcoin per week. So far, I have found peace and comfort knowing that my investment will yield profits with time.

We can look at the topic of this thread, and we can see that the thread is not about DCA - even though DCA ideas have kind of taken over the topic of the thread - perhaps because it is a bit of a superior idea over the idea of buying on dip and holding (or even the ideas about buying on the dip)..
Hi buddy.. After the exchange of views a couple of times a discussion between the members and my own experiences and learning I started a topic in the Bitcoin discussion where I was expecting that seniors would guide and put forward their views on the Different strategies adoption in different market zones. Haha but unfortunately the topic became a simple DCA praising discussion.

Anyway I would like active members from here to discuss the topic there according to their perspective, it would really helpful for the newbies and members like me who are desiring to get some wordic from the series on different aspects.

Previous Topic Name: How To Accumulate Bitcoin More Effectively In Any Market Zone

Current Topic Name: DCA vs Zone Specific Strategies While Accumulation of Bitcoins

Yes.. I see that you started that thread a couple of days ago.. and I'll put that thread on my list of threads to look at.
This seems like a discussion here sometime ago where someone suggested applying both the DCA method together with buying at the dip (instant buys atcertain low price points). I did not follow up to the conclusion of the discussion but I felt the tone of various comments here suggested it was feasible.

986  Other / Meta / Re: bitcoin discussion board have lot of unecessary questions on: October 09, 2023, 10:04:55 AM
I feel the moderators also noticed these things but are trying as much as they can to make the forum as democratic as possible. Democratic in the sense that freedom of expression is totally allowed because if they become too rigid, many people will become too scared to post in the forum. If you notice, most of those posts are coming from new members, if the moderators do not apply wisdom in handle the situation, it can also affect the forum in the aspect of continuity and others.

Nevertheless,  it is still expected we aspire to encourage as much quality posts as we can so that time in this forum will be worth it. We can use the report to moderators tab more if we feel certain posts or comments do not meet the forum standard...if many people report a particular post, it becomes easier for the mods to act knowing that deleting the post is in the interest of a good number of the forum users.
987  Local / Off-topic (Naija) / Re: Nigerian street pranks and its effect. on: October 09, 2023, 09:52:36 AM
Pranking people on the street has become a common order with no consideration of the victim's emotional/psychological state of mind.
It is actually disgusting seeing the extent some people go to create content. No safety measure in place for some of them and they can actually cause someone sick to have crisis. For example, this one uses fake snake to prank random people on the street. This is extremely dangerous! If they use only those among their crew for the prank, it would have been better to avoid any emergency. Besides, we already know it is just script they are acting.

Entertainment is not bad, as a matter of fact I enjoy watching them alot but when you ridicule or take advantage of the ignorance of others just to create your content, it becomes a problem.
I don't know if there are regulations to these things but I think government have to do more in this regards to avoid emergency. Content creators have to be guided by rules that guarantee public safety.
988  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: In Case of Global Conflict, Is BTC The Best Alternative? on: October 09, 2023, 07:03:59 AM
Now, in the face of a global chaos, do you think holding on to Bitcoin is a good idea to protect our assets?
This is absolutely correct! The war in Ukraine have proven this to be the case because Bitcoin helped in sending funds to  many people that I know during evacuation when conventional methods of payment failed . Millions of dollars were also raised for Ukraine through Bitcoin. So it is surely looking like Bitcoin is a good resort for people when there is uncertainty.
989  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Exchange that offer depositing bitcoin from segwit address? on: October 09, 2023, 12:34:38 AM
Is there any particular reason you are saying people should not use exchanges that do not accept payment from segwit address? Is segwit a new form of verifying the unthenticity of an exchange? I will love to know how and why you arrive at that statement...
Because the exchanges are lazy or do not have developers that are competent enough to make their exchanges to support segwit addresses. Segwit was implemented in 2017. That was six years ago. It will not be a surprise if such exchange is hacked. Most exchanges allow segwit transactions.
Now I understand. I was thinking there is any particular security concerns regarding the non inclusion of segwit address as their means of deposit.
Maybe it could be company's policy or perhaps they did not find it necessary even though I don't have idea of the percentage of users that prefer segwit addresses.

991  Other / Meta / Re: Does deleting our own posts harms our acccount ? on: October 08, 2023, 03:56:09 PM
No, it doesn't. In rare case, you may lose few of your activities. Otherwise, there's nothing wrong deleting your own post. Why though? I don't think there are a lot of reasons for deleting your own post.
There are instances that can make people delete their own posts. There was a time I had network issues and that made me post the same thing twice... when I noticed, I have to come back the next day to delete one of the posts.

I have also seen some people who made applications to different signature campaigns at the same time and when accepted in one, they delete the other applications. I would also love to know if this is a bad practice.

There should be other reasons why people delete their posts, but I just gave the ones I have experienced.
992  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread 2023/2024 on: October 08, 2023, 03:17:23 PM
Arsenal hosts Manchester city and this is the lineup for the game.

Full Man city XI:

Ederson De Moraes (GK), Kyle Walker, Ruben Dias, Nathan Ake, Mateo Kovacic, Erling Haaland, Julian Alvarez, Bernardo Silva, Josko Gvaridol, Phil Foden, Rico Lewis.

Full Arsenal XI:

David Raya (GK), William Saliba, Ben White, Gabriel Magalhães, Oleksandr Zinchenko, Martin Odegaard (C), Jorginho, Declan Rice, Gabriel Jesus, Eddie Nketiah, Leandro Trossard.

Jack Grealish and John Stones starts from the bench for Manchester City

And for Arsenal, Gabriel Martinelli starts from the bench while Bukayo Saka didn’t make the squad today.

I expect a very tight match tonight because both teams are playing their best players based on current fitness. However, Bukayo Saka's absence might not work to Arsenal's advantage as he is a key player.
Perhaps home advantage will give the gurners the morale to withstand the Premier league defending champions who rarely show any weakness away.
In all, I look forward to an interesting match 13 minutes from now.
993  Economy / Speculation / Re: Buy the DIP, and HODL! on: October 08, 2023, 03:04:59 PM
Holders have been using this method for a long time, whether they are day traders or long-term traders. And we have also seen that it is effective, and this is also where traders usually make money. Especially if we know how to feel the right timing of buying and selling.
It is obvious you need to revisit your notes on the DCA strategy to avoid mixing things up. DCA strategy have no connection with day trading and is more focused on buying at regular interval. It can be monthly buying, weekly or even daily buy... but it is concerned with accumulation in such a way that it will be done regularly, in a manner that it will not put one under financial stress.

Holding Bitcoin has its own strategy that depends on personal conviction, target and other factors. While some people are holding to profit from the next bull run, there are people that will hold Bitcoin and even pass it on to their heirs... I happen to be one of those. I have resolved that Bitcoin will be one of the treasure and legacy I will hand over to my heirs and I know there are also others like that.

994  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Knowledge vs hodlings on: October 08, 2023, 02:53:52 PM
Hopefully anyone who is a member of this forum and is ONLY making minimum wage in a place like Bangladesh and/or any other country with similar kinds of low level wages, these people should be working towards increasing their wages rather than merely making minimum wage...
easier said than done. Bangladesh is the 8th most populated country in the whole world. in a place like this the competition is so high and the opportunity is so low that you should be happy that you are making a minimum wage. but not all people are only making the minimum wage, there are people whose daily expenses is more than minimum wage earned by people.
there are some side hustles that you can do in order to increase your wages but finding a proper job and keep doing the side hustles is quite a bit hard in here.
If there are sides hustle that can add more income, then @JayJuanGee is right. Some people are already working hard beyond the minimum wage, so anyone who crave for a better future should endeavour to explore other areas that can earn them money.

Fortunately, I know a lot of hardworking people from Bangladesh that are doing multiple freelancing jobs to make ends meet. This is not perculiar to Bangladesh,  many people from low income countries strive to earn more money to be able to meet their needs.

To invest in Bitcoin and manage the investment effective requires that one have a cashflow that will meet basic needs first then investment funds. If basic needs are not met, there are chances of selling unplanned even in the case of emergency.

995  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread 2023/2024 on: October 08, 2023, 01:45:37 PM
Brighton vs Liverpool is currently 1-0 thanks to Simon quality goal in the 20th minute. But don't be happy yet, I am still optimistic that Liverpool can turn things around in this first half. The time is still quite long and from statistics it can still be controlled. A front line with this composition means Moh Salah and Nunez will try to open gaps in Brighton defense.
M. Saleh have delivered for Luverpool as usual, making is 1-1. Now Liverpool just got awarded a penalty. I feel fatigue has gripped Brighton and that may cost them the match. They had a pretty good start anyways.

There is high chance Liverpool is taking the three away points because Saleh will score.
996  Other / Politics & Society / Re: 2200 Rockets shot at Israel 40 killed. on: October 08, 2023, 01:31:28 PM
What is astounding is the number of rockets which Hamas were able to acquire,
fire and land into Israeli territory and from Gaza which is highly controlled by Israel.
It is really looking like there are new players involved in the war. I just hope it is not Russia since US is already supporting Isreal. Russia involvement will escalate the war beyond redemption and I don't want us to get to that direction.

What is really sad and worrying is that Israel will retaliate with horrible devastation,
which will lead to even more hostility...

This is unfixable
The reality that Isreal will retaliate is what scare me the most.  From history, the extent to which Isreal responds to any attack is always proportional to the level of damages and loss they incurred. According to rumours,  Isreal have an unwritten rule that a single Israeli killed by Hamas is equal to hundred Palestinians. This is the reason Israel's retaliation is always more divestating.

I truly wish there is anything that can be done to prevent the doom that is awaiting Palestine.... we are humans before anything else and human lives matters
997  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Crypto Regulation in Nigeria. What is your Opinion? on: October 08, 2023, 12:56:28 PM
This has been an ongoing discussion even from past administrations but no noticeable action have been taken in that direction. So, it is safe to say that the government might still be studying the possibilities given the complexity and  uniqueness of the cryptocurrency industry.

In my opinion, until cryptocurrency regulation is implemented in the west and the successes and benefits noted, Nigeria will never go that direction.
998  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Gambling prediction for non fungible tokens- 100% NFTs are a gamble on: October 07, 2023, 08:09:04 PM
The hype around NTFs died as fast as they came... many believe it was outright bubble. Even though I don't share in that sentiment, the signs are high.

I wouldn't venture into this bet instead, I can use the funds for this to buy Bitcoin against the anticipated bull run. It is all about making money and one have to be wise about the choices. Until NFTs return,  no need to gamble with it as the probability is very low
999  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I want to fulfill my mother's dream of building a house with Bitcoin. on: October 07, 2023, 04:26:58 PM
First of all, your dream is possible with Bitcoin and it is good you are coming with a plan already. That means you will have direction and areas to focus in. It will not come easily but surely, it is achievable if the will and dedication is in place. I wish you good luck.

I have already gained enough knowledge about trading by being involved with Bitcoin, firstly I want to start my Bitcoin journey through trading, after making some money from trading I plan to invest in Bitcoin for four years.
To trade Bitcoin, you realise capital will be involved as well as the risk of loosing the capital? Are you prepared for whatever outcome you will experience? I do not mean to scare you but understanding the risk involved will help you in planning and decision making.
If you have a cashflow that can support you buying Bitcoin no matter how small, why not apply DCA and run it till the next bull run instead of depending entirely on day trading? After funding your trading account, I am suggesting you start accumulating Bitcoin after making your financial projections. You can start very small and grow with time... in that case you are pursuing it both ways: trading and investment.

1000  Other / Politics & Society / Re: 2200 Rockets shot at Israel 40 killed. on: October 07, 2023, 03:11:11 PM
First off I am anti killing. Israel 🇮🇱 and Palestine 🇵🇸 seem to be in the first day of a war.

How will the rest of the world deal with yet another conflict.

Stack this in with Ukraine 🇺🇦 and Russia 🇷🇺 conflict.

What will we the rest of the world do with a new conflict?

How will we be affected?

I am wishing for peace ☮️ not violence.

But this may cause a lot of ripples for us all.
This is an ongoing war that just got intensified. Israel and Palestine were never at peace, and this kind of sporadic attack is not new. So, the world will not be affected in any way different from the status quo.

I feel bad see that the world is heading in the direction of anarchy with wars springing up in different countries and none ending.
