9841  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Guide] Dogie's Comprehensive Bitmain AntMiner S2 Setup [HD] on: June 02, 2014, 08:33:10 PM
I got today my first S2, and i had some issues, so i will share my experience here in case it helps someone.

So, i connected the miner, it started good, then i turned off the PSU on the back and it would not start again. It looked like i killed the PSU somehow.

Solution: Turned off the PSU, removed the jumper on the mainboard connector (P_ON), turned on the PSU on the back, then put back the jumper, and the PSU started again. Didn't have the issue again.

Second thing, i started the miner, and then the ASIC status was like sh*t, and i was just getting 500GH/sec. It looked like the miner was half-dead.

-Solution: Took out all the cards, cleaned the contacts with toilet paper (ouuu yeahhh), and plugged and unplugged them several times to clean the slots, and then put everything back together. 100% of the asics are OK, and S2 is mining at >1TH

So, just that, hope it is useful for someone!

BR

interesting re jumper, could help avoid the business with class 10 card images, micro sd replacement, etc.

Did anybody successfully tried to move boards around when you have one that periodically throws a bunch of (x)s, like 00X00XX000000?
I my case (x)s could be fixed by a reboot every ~24hr which is not a biggie, yet I would like to avoid the reboot.

I noticed that at least in my machine boards differ somewhat with some having more massive sinks than others. A couple have a bent/dent that goes around chipset on the bottom-or is it accidental?

One curios piece of info that might be of some use: my machine seems to be sensitive to how far away the outtake fans are from the wall.
A bit more than half a feet (or 15-20cm) from the wall-not good, thermal shutdowns every 12 hours or so, 1.5 ft (~half a meter)-no thermal shutdowns so far.
9843  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Antminer S2 Support and Overclocking Thread on: June 02, 2014, 08:13:46 PM
You forgot to post freq value and timeout for 200.
I have a spare EVGA 1300 and wonder if I can mildly overclock (only if it will be stable).

Solid advice.  Will be shaving my head tonight.

swimmers do it, why not?

Currently, I suppose that the mining reward is mostly spent on new mining equipment and power. The equipment manufacturers may accept bitcoin payments. So a portion of the mining reward may stay in bitcoin and not be exchanged for fiat.  In the summer of 2016 the block creation reward is scheduled to again halve to 12.6 bitcoins per mined block. My logistic model has a trend price of about $840,000 for July 1, 2017. So three years from now, 1800 daily block creation reward bitcoins would have a fiat value of $151 million. Even if converted entirely into fiat, I think that figure is achievable by worldwide investment.

A price of above $840,000 by July 1 2017 is one of the most optimistic predictions I have seen. In percentage terms, how likely do you think it is that that will happen?

If we get to $269,000 by July 1, 2016 then I would say 50%. Otherwise who knows. The Metcalfe's Law model is compelling.

If bitcoin is ever going to $300k, i will be selling 10% for sure  Smiley.

Not when a loaf of bread will cost you 50k.
Unless you're dying of hunger

If loaf of bread will be 50K, bitcoin would be 8000K minimal or more likely 800 mil

9847  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [WTS] two antminer S1 (US)-unopened from Bitmain on: June 02, 2014, 03:31:25 PM
Only one brand new antminer S1 left (in unopened box from Bitmain. location-Houston TX)

price-0.4 BTC plus ground transportation paid by paypal ($15)
or 0.418 BTC and I will pay for ground to contiguous USA
or $265 cash available today in Houston TX

Edit: everything sold out
9848  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Antminer S1 Sales open] Price changes daily, now 0.419 BTC for 180GH/s on: June 01, 2014, 10:06:39 PM
Well crap..lol It was 259 shipped earlier. I should have pulled the trigger on that. I won't at 300.
Hmm. thanks for that link. I was looking to buy just one and $259 shipped is not too bad. That seems to be the lowest I have seen after shipping.

More like $300 each!!!!

sebuh price was simply stupid earlier today, he has ~$320 or $345 now with shipping.
Go to my post, I have much better deal (as of right now).
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=634036.0
Who knows what will happen in an hour....stop whining about price, take action now before bitcoin is much higher and good luck.
9849  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [WTS] two antminer S1 (US)-unopened from Bitmain on: June 01, 2014, 07:50:36 PM
I'm interested in local pickup but 540 is more than buying from Bitmain, is that cost firm?

You have ~$40 savings in the local pickup because you will mine starting today instead of ~June 8. Bitmain starts shipping again on June 3 (no shipping now).
Resellers price=$299.99 plus ether $20 or $45 shipping or ~$320 or $345 total.
Current bitmain price is ~$540 for 2 S1, but I'll get no item from them until next Fri or Sat.

680 then  800.  Here we go.

With this speed $800 could be here by Mon or Tue.

Some hedge funds are hot in pursuit (in my opinion):

correction-more like 60o angle, LOL
9851  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: AntMiner S2 1TH/s Kit Sales Open, official sales price $2260 per Kit on: June 01, 2014, 04:56:56 PM
Hi !! I wanted to buy few AntMiners S2 in a few days but I see there's no AM S2 still available. Does anyone know will they be still available to buy? Or is bitmain planning to sell only those silly S2 kits with HUMONGOUS price? I will be very grateful for answer.

And btw, in my oppinion they made a huge mistake with giving 2260$ price for those kits. There's no PSU which costs a lot + case etc. Not smart move.

Gosh, I like a bargain like anybody else, but if bitcoin will keep rising as this, mining equipment will be expensive when calculated in $$, as S2 is.
The same 2260 price is 3.40BTC right now, but it was 4.05 BTC ($2309) on May 26 and ~3.2 BTC for group buy.

When bitcoin was low and mining equipment cheap, some were not buying. Now, as the price of BTC went up from $340 to $665, people are complaining about the expensive equipment. You buy cheap and you sell high-that's the general idea in anything investment related.
9852  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [WTS] two antminer S1 (US)-unopened from Bitmain on: June 01, 2014, 04:14:09 PM
How much ?

Where you from ?

Can we pick them up ?

0.838 BTC for both ship UPS ground to contiguous US (not Alaska) on Monday from Houston, TX at my expense-you should get it by Thu (most likely).
I can also ship 3 day for extra $15 per item via paypal or 2 day for extra $30 per item also via paypal.

Houston, TX

Where are you located, sir? If in TX or nearby-yes, you can pick them up with cash on the spot $540 for both.
9853  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Antminer S1 Sales open] Price changes daily, now 0.419 BTC for 180GH/s on: June 01, 2014, 03:16:13 PM
right now there are no coupons and this is .419 btc so .419 btc x 646 usd  a coin is 270 usd.   this does not ship until the 3rd due to a holiday.

on usa ebay some are selling as low as 289 usd.  shipping on monday from a legit seller.  if you are like me and get a bonus back ( I get 4%  ) it is  only  277 .44 usd

here are some low ebay sellers

9855  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: AntMiner S2 1TH/s Kit Sales Open, official sales price $2260 per Kit on: June 01, 2014, 01:51:08 AM
Agreed DIY Kits are more for the RMA shipping problems because of the s2 design/architecture of unit.   Not necessarily for increased sales.

They are between the road of clearing out farms of s1 and reorganizing the chips on new boards.

s2 was an experiment in increased power efficiency with wattage, BUT needed more chips.

s3 should be new and better chip design.

I agree they probably have the new chips going into there S2's in the farm so there selling the guts of them to the community then once they use them all at the new 2TH speed for a while they will open up a board upgrade sale to the community for us to do a self upgrade of our units with a new board and or Power Supply as Bitmain had suggested in the next month or 2 but my gut tells me he has them now and is using them all in his farm

So far they have been pretty straightforward with everything. After i told them about my power board they sent me a new one in 24hr. Compare this with constant bs people are getting from other manufacturers…you know who they are.

I have never done anything like this, so a few questions from a newb:
1. My understanding that for undervolting as per bitmain scheme, I will be removing R3, etc. resistors, but then instructions are a bit thin for me…Do I put something else in place? bitmain says: refer to resistor value to replace. This is where I don't understand. I have to replace R3 and 7 other resistors (8 total, 4 on each board) with what?
2. how POTs came into this? Is it a POT I have to put in place of removed resistors, or is it optional and I can simply put a small droplet of tin where resistor (R3, etc) was?

Thanks

Yes remove the R3, R66, R38 & R52 resistors from each blade. Either replace these removed resistors with new resistors of the value Bitmain has given (3.24Kohm for 102.4Ghash or 4.02Kohm for 115.2Ghash).
Alternatively instead of putting in the fixed value resistors (3.24 or 4.02) put in a 0 to 10Kohm adjustable resistors (POT) (this is what is shown on the pictures attached a page or two back). With the POTs you can undervolt, go back to stock, or if you are brave overvolt with no more hardware changes!

Trends

just do a pencil mod. its easy enough that anyone can do it.  All you need is a pencil and a multimeter, and about 10-15 minutes per antminer.  (a 4B pencil is a bit easier to work with than a 2B/HB since its softer lead).  Its not as precise a method as actually soldering a new resistor, but its ~95% as effective and far faster and less likely to do permentant amage then using a soldering iron to remove/replace a SMALL resistor

Is pencil mod even stable or you have to constantly monitor the ant's power usage/HW mistakes and re-mod every week or two?

my pencil mod is 11 days old 3 ants do 430gh at 563 watts.

  rock solid for 11 days.

Pencil mod has been working great for me

Ok, thanks, I think I got it. Will try pencil first. The R3 and other resistors are so tiny, I will mess them up with the iron for sure.
