1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: CoinMarketCap.com - Market Cap Rankings of All Cryptocurrencies! on: April 08, 2014, 01:31:45 AM
I don't understand total supply vs available, what does that mean?

Switching does not change bitcoin, I thought bitcoin total = 21 million

And I know that all 12 million aren't for sale on exchanges, so Available can't mean "on exchanges for sale" so I don't know what to make of these new filters

2  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: CoinMarketCap.com - Market Cap Rankings of All Cryptocurrencies! on: March 30, 2014, 12:48:52 AM
on the new charts, there is a blue line for price, yellow for market cap

they overlap nearly 100% most of the time.. but sometimes there is a gap between them (see AUR right now)

what does that gap signify?
3  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: CoinMarketCap.com - Market Cap Rankings of All Cryptocurrencies! on: March 30, 2014, 12:32:14 AM
suggestion:

It would be great to see a chart for Total Market Cap (at the bottom).

Even better, it could have 2 lines: one for total market cap, but also one for bitcoin's market cap. That way you could visualize the gap between all altcoins and bitcoin, to see if altcoin market is growing or not (ie the gap gets bigger over time?)

The whole story is complete bullshit.

Inside job, plain as day.

At any rate, this is the death of Counterparty.

~BCX~

Why would they put an exploit in their code, let it sit for months, then exploit it, then give it all back, making prices drop in meantime?  hurting themselves,  I dont see anything they gain by it?

The Counterparty project (similar to Mastercoin) uses "XCP" as its currency. The only exchange that deals with XCP is www.poloniex.com

Last week, Poloniex users have had 115 BTC stolen

The story is (supposedly) someone found a bug in the Counterparty protocol and was able to double spend 35K XCP for 115 BTC, and withdrew the BTC.

Here is the 114.9996 BTC stolen:  https://blockchain.info/address/134V1Rt8tBtz7RuydzBtvfuNNfyHmDCHSp

Details are here:  https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=395761.msg5307430#msg5307430

PhantomPhreak,

Will you please release the email exchanges you had with the hacker? (along with email headers too?)

If not, please say why you don't want to, or can't?

This is my second time asking you, and I have asked Busoni 4 times - no one is answering, please don't ignore us.

Busoni,

There has been over 100 BTC traded today, great, but when will you make payouts to those that were hacked?

Daily? Weekly?
Or are you going to wait only until 100% fees are recovered?

What is the plan please?

The amount of BTC owed to people is recorded, and I will pay it off gradually, starting with the 35 BTC left behind by the hacker.

busoni, an idea, for transparency, Please publish a list of users with stolen BTC and how much they are missing!
So we can verify you are "on the same page" and everyone know what is going on.

To protect privacy you can post SHA256 of their email along with Amount BTC lost,

So for example my email was "test@example.com" I could go to www.xorbin.com/tools/sha256-hash-calculator
and figure out my hash, then find on list:

user hash / amount btc missing due to hacker:

973dfe463ec85785f5f95af5ba3906eedb2d931c24e69824a89ea65dba4e813b     3.2 BTC

Again, so we see you have us listed, how much is lost. And also everyone sees progress, maybe post weekly update. it is "too abstract" now not transparent enough. Thank you. I know you are frustrated and trying your best, you have all my sympathy!

We haven't heard from the attacker in a long time now, and it looks as though he's not going to return any of the funds he stole from Poloniex. We have made our recommendations to busoni as to what he should do, and the decision is up to him.

So will you and Busoni kindly Release:

  • the address used that 80 stolen BTC were sent to;
  • the text of emails exchanged between you and the hacker + email headers;
  • the email address he used on poloniex;
  • the nick name he used in poloniex;
  • the IP address used in poloniex;

So we can try to track this man down!

Do not get me wrong I am totally fine with fundraising, but I do not think it is our obligation to bail-out poloniex. Especially the 80 btc which were withdrawn without a second security check are hard for me to understand. I think Busoni could offer a solution like the one suggested by prophetx for the customers.

counterpartyd.exe lied and said there was deposited 35.000 XCP, what more was he supposed to do?  if protocol is broke how could he have known ?  how is it Busoni's fault at all?

Quote
Anyway I'll donate 10 XCP for your fund this afternoon, not because it is our obligation to bail you out, but because you took the risk and seem to be behind the project.

Yes the people who lost money all wanted to BUY XCP meaning join the project,

But forget obligation, real reason to bail out is because if 80 BTC is lost it will mean massive bad press, it will devastate the project, hang over its head forever. People will never stop talking about it, do you think people can lost $60000 and not fight to get it back?  Does not matter who is at fault or what is fair, "only get one chance to make a first impression" and most people will hear this story as their introduction to Counterparty
19  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][XCP] Counterparty Protocol, Client and Coin (built on Bitcoin) - Official on: February 22, 2014, 07:37:28 AM
SO what's XCP worth now? The burn price ?

Lol not even that.   If this had been handled by the first 48 hours, like some said , do the 1% tax or create more coins idea, yes some people would be grumpy but it would at least be back on exchange, and back on coinmarketcap with a minor hit to price. It would be done and done,

Now it is worth nothing, everyone is getting the feeling there will be no return of funds, we are not hearing updates from the devs, bad press is starting, sad!

If mr. hacker gave back 80 BTC I would be shocked, I would donate 1 btc to him for honor, but I feel he won't. And I feel donation idea or lotto will never come close to 80

Oh well come on devs, come on hacker, let's get some news
20  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][XCP] Counterparty Protocol, Client and Coin (built on Bitcoin) - Official on: February 21, 2014, 05:22:50 AM
Folks, it's imperative that Busoni be made whole. He had no reason to suspect there was a disasterous bug in the protocol. I hope the devs will endorse a donation plan once the dust settles.

If a retailer stocks your item in their store, and your item explodes and destroys half the store, shouldn't you try to pay that retailer back?

This community does not have 80 bitcoins and even if it did they would rather blame him for "lax security"

They forget the only reason XCP appear on coinmarketcap site is due to busoni accepting it on his exchange!

Your analogy is straight on, and no other retailer would take the product even if they fix it, it is tainted now, unless a miracle happens
