https://www.thetimes.co.uk/edition/business/daniel-harrison-accused-of-30m-crypto-fraud-cn6b0hgrm

Quote
A former public schoolboy has been accused of being the mastermind of a multimillion-pound international cryptocurrency fraud, which netted him $30m and saw one investor commit suicide.

Daniel Harrison, who is the son of a senior City financier, is alleged to have lured American investors with an initial coin offering (ICO), used to fund the creation of a cryptocurrency.

Harrison, in his late 30s, according to US court papers, was the founder of Monkey Capital LLC, a Delaware company, and Monkey Capital Inc, a Singapore-based company, and used them for “fraudulent purposes”. The claims have been made in a civil class action filed in a Florida court. The filing comes amid increasing legal and regulatory concerns about the boom in crypto-currencies.

Harrison could not be reached for comment, but he has previously told the cryptocurrency website CoinDesk that the claims are “ridiculous”. He has yet to file a formal response.

The Monkey Capital class action alleges that investors ploughed more than $5m worth of bitcoins into the ICO in return for options called a coeval, which could in turn be exchanged for a crypto-currency called monkey coin.

The legal papers state that there are “at least hundreds if not thousands of putative class members”. One of the original plaintiffs, Jeffrey Heberling, recently committed suicide.

A trial date has been set for September 17.

Investors were told that these coins would “derive their value from the usefulness and popularity of the Monday Capital Market — a development and launch of which was entirely in defendants’ control”.

However, the ICO, which was scheduled for July 2017 according to the court papers, never took place and the six plaintiffs never got back their bitcoins. The coins are now valued at more than $15m (£11m).

The class action states: “800,000,000 of the Monkey Coins were issued to Daniel Harrison, who quickly converted them to other cryptocurrency and fiat currency . . . presently valued at $30m.”

Harrison, who is thought to live in Singapore, says he went to Lancing College and Oxford University.

His father, Mark Harrison, who was a senior figure at Deutsche Bank and Morgan Stanley, said: “I don’t wish to comment.”

Excellent news... thanks for posting this. Roll on daniel spending xmas 2018 in jail, and a few more after that with any luck.

I do not know for how much longer that offer will run so best to take advantage now, that is $380 worth of COEVAL one can use to  soon Mine MNY, simply for checking a project out!!
Please note that to receive the coe one must stay active for some time and not just spam-join and send the mew address.

L O L

I got 2 coeval dropped in my wallet... COE distributions are most certainly not 'done' for all original investers that sent in for the swap, and even if they were (which they aren't) they are worth jack shit (where the hell did you pull $380 for 0.1 COE from???), nor ever will be. Looking forward to seeing daniel sentenced towards the end of the year and getting his pretty ass fucked good style in jail.

5  Economy / Economics / Re: tax on bitcoin profits in United Kingdom? [Solved] on: January 19, 2018, 12:03:38 PM
if anyone KNOWS the answers to what constitutes a trader liable for income tax (CGT is pretty simple) I'd be forever grateful for some input.

Thanks in advance :-)

There is no concrete answer given by HMRC, they simply say each individuals circumstances is examined on a case by case basis.

The list of questions from your accountant reflects this situation. HMRC use 'common sense' (!) to designate trader from speculator.

As I understand it:

For the everyday working person if speculating (ie gambling) on asset/stock moves in your part time you pay no income tax OR CGT on any profits. This would likely be the case so long as you make more money from your working than trading. However if speculating actually is your sole income they will likely decide you are a day-trader and so liable to IT on your trade profits.

Here are some more scenarios: so if you work and speculate twice a week and hold your positions for a few hours at a time they may say you pay no IT on that speculation nor CGT. But if you DON'T work but speculate twice a week holding positions for only a few hours they may decide you are a day-trader liable for IT. Similarly if you work and speculate twice a week but hold positions for weeks at a time they may decide you are investing and need to pay CGT on profits. If you work and trade 20 times per week holding positions for a few hours and make 50% of what you take home from work they may say you pay no IT or CGT on that profit. But if you make 200% of your job income you may be asked to pay IT as they would see you more as a day trader (based on your sucess rate).

Only HMRC can give you your particular answer once you have outlined your position to them and they have looked at the situation based around these general rules.

NB - I am not a tax advisor and have deduced this from HMRC website and may be wrong so seek professional advice for further clarification.

not sure why anyone would ever think the bolded part of your quote. In a thread like this, best not to muddy waters with pure guesswork, as quite a bit of your post is way off.
6  Economy / Economics / Re: tax on bitcoin profits in United Kingdom? [Solved] on: January 19, 2018, 12:00:34 PM
clarification from accountant:

HMRC classify you as a trader *if* you are doing 'hundreds of trades daily/weekly'

if you aren't, then you are liable only for CGT (threshold £11,300, rate = 10% CGT for lower rate taxpayers, 20% CGT for higher rate taxpayers) for each disposal.

Don't take my accountant's word for it though, although this info should be helpful to us UK people - Always check with your own accountant.

That doesn't correlate with their statement that they are honoring the 10k MNY per coeval... if you swap, you no longer have those to receive 27 MNY per day/per coeval on... as far as I can make out. Whole thing is a bit of a shit show, to put it mildly Smiley

At time of swap you receive PRE + MNY as stated in ratio PDF. Additionally, over 365 days you will receive MNY on daily basis up to 10k (slow release).
Simply send COE for swap to get initial PRE+MNY, and then daily MNY into your MEW wallet.

I'm still not seeing how that works, if you swap all your coeval for PRE, how do they know to send to a coeval holder at the rate of 27 MNY per day/coe? There'd be no coe to send those 27 MNY a day to.
13  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Bounties (Altcoins) / Re: [BOUNTY][ICO] Monkey Capital - A Decentralised Hedge Fund on: October 05, 2017, 06:23:32 PM
so I have the bunch of coeval still in my waves wallet, and still see no mny. Bored of checking in to this thread now, should I just cut my losses on this piece of shit coin?

So, you did invest your money, and you do not even bother to check latest news about it at http://chat.monkey.com ?

Are you a moron?

You are not getting any MNY for your coe just sitting in your waves wallet. Check news, wait for SWAP instructions.

So, according to the pdf I was pointed to at chat monkey, I *will* get MNY for the coeval in my waves wallet, at a rate of 27 MNY per coeval per day.

Im pretty sure it relates to mew wallet.
You send your coe to waves SWAP wallet, and you receive eth MNY into your mew.

edited to add: again, as far as I can make out, this ONLY applies to those who bought/hold coeval. Tbh though at this point everyone is guessing.

I must be, I assumed when you said an announcement would be made, that any announcements would be made here, in this dedicated thread, on the largest crypto forum in the world. My bad. Newbie mistake.

so, my coeval that I've had sitting in my waves wallet for a couple of months or so - was I supposed to get MNY for those? I thought that was the case, or have I been scammed and left with a bunch of near-worthless coeval?

No. This is still happening, You will receive your MNY at ERC20 token swap.

ok, and just to clarify:

All I need to do is leave my coeval in my Waves wallet, correct? Or are there other steps to take on my side?

When is the ERC20 token swap happening?

Thanks.

To get your 10k MNY you will have to send your coe & MNY etc for a SWAP to erc20. It will be announced.
Right now you can leave it on waves, or trade on pairs.

20  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Antshares/ NEO [NEO] on: September 01, 2017, 09:22:17 AM
For those affected by the upcoming Antshares web wallet shutdown, go to https://neo.org/download and download a web wallet app.
NEON is the easiest and fastest to use though it is technically a 3rd-party app supported by NEO.
NEO-GUI is the official app though it has several issues such as being slow AF and claiming GAS involves having to send your NEO to yourself in order to unlock them. Also, you DO NOT have to transfer your NEO to a new address.
You just have to import your address information using your private key.

Ty for this. Questions from a complete neo n00b:

1. neon wallet, I can claim GAS... I can do this at any time? Any advantage/disadvantage to claiming it when it says I can claim?

2. what is GAS? Is it worth anything to me?

Gas is basically the price you pay to make sure your transactions go as fast as they do in the neo network (or eth network). It's quite valuable, and will only go up in value as the neo/eth networks get more volume.

You shouldn't claim your gas right now, but hold it. Depending on how much neo you hold, your wallet will generate gas. My estimate is that you earn 1 GAS a month for every 100 neo you own. Let's say you hold 50 neo in your wallet. This means in 10 years you'll have generated 60 gas. Given that the gas prices will only go up (as a result of the expansion of crypto itself and the inevitable rise in volume on the neo network), you can be sure each GAS is worth over 100$, so you'll have made 6000$ by doing absolutely nothing.

Thanks, that's very helpful Smiley

1. If I claim the GAS though, doesn't that mean I hold the same amount of GAS whether I claim as I go along anyway, and as long as I don't sell it, it'll accrue the same monetary value?

2. And, the GAS earned is a separate thing to http://neocoins.net/index.php and staking, correct/incorrect?

3. If I accrue say 5 GAS, I can keep those and sell NEO should I want to, without losing my GAS - correct/incorrect?

Anyone able to clarify those bolded questions? Thanks Smiley
