1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Altcoin prices now the real price? on: September 14, 2018, 04:25:56 PM
Looking at the investments I made in altcoins this time last year they are now at less than half the price.

Finding a good investment is the key, and never make excuses when you pick a bad project, look for where you went wrong and look for a solution.

I agree with you there however the vast majority of alts have lost more than a years worth of value.

I dumped a lot of non performers last year but kept the following because they seemed to have a lot of potential.

QTUM - disappointed to say the least with current price
Zcoin - hasn't lost too much value
NAV - lost a lot of value but i really like it

So the investor lost faith, doesn't think this technology in a coin is worth as much as he was made to believe (surprise surprise).

You may say that It's because it follows bitcoin, but say you need to stop dreaming and come back to reality because BTC is still nearly double the price it was this time last year.

But are we at the bottom? Is the price now the REAL price of an altcoin.
3  Economy / Trading Discussion / Stable coins on: May 20, 2018, 07:50:13 PM
Hi guys, what are stable coins exactly?

Are they a good way to look in profits from the volatility of the crypto market?

Please correct me if I'm wrong as I'm trying to understand what a stable coin is.

Example, if you buy 1 alt coin for $100 and next day it's value increases 10% and now your 1 alt coin's price is $110. If you wanted to lock that profit could you move that $10 to a stable coin such as tether rather than BTC where the price appears to be fluctuating too much for my liking.

How do you transfer your money out of the altcoin and into a stable coin?

Are they any stable coins which do not require intrusive KYC details?

Do you think stable coins are the future?

Many thanks.

4  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][CrowdSale Ended]🌟🌟🌟🌟 NVO Decentralized Exchange | MultiWallet 🌟🌟🌟🌟 on: January 08, 2018, 12:49:35 AM
NVO will be a modular Decentralised exchange that pays out 50% of it's fees to NVST holders. Modular simply means that anyone can add any coin and you don't need to pay or hire a dev (assuming you know how to do it yourself). Once we get some volume going, more people will want to invest to get the dividends. That would be the game changer. You get to earn dividends forever, from a DEX. Centralized exchanges can be shut down by governments, but a DEX can't assuming it's truly decentralized. NVO is going to have it's own blockchain rather than the safe network now, because the safe network (maidsafe) wasn't going to be ready in time. So this will be around as long as Bitcoin and other cryptos are around, paying out dividends to any investor. That's why I invested.

OK, thanks for the clarification. So basically A modular decentralised exchange which pays dividends to NVST holders and any coin can be listed on the exchange. Has the maid safe network not being ready delayed the roadmap?

There is currently a team of 70 devs working on this. Could you be more specific on who you're asking about that left? Either way the first release of the wallet is out, with a new update coming soon and the exchange is expected to be completed this quarter. It's a non-issue.

Sorry I can't be more specific, it was a while ago when I was browsing this thread and I remember some users talking about some of team leaving to create a new startup or something, but yeah I didn't pay much attention.

70 devs sounds very positive, I could only see a few listed on the official website.

Any idea if the current roadmap is 100% on track?

Hi all, sorry about the noob question as I'm just beginning my research about this coin.

I realise it's new and still has a lot of work to be done and for me this isn't a problem so long as the team are committed and competent.

Could anyone tell me what NVO offers that is unique that it's current and future competitors don't offer, or what exactly makes this project stand out from the other exchanges? And do you think it will be a real game changer in this space?

Another question I have is that I remember a while back that a member of the team had left the project to start another one, any news on this or is this now a non-issue and hasn't effected NVO's development.

Thanks.

11  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Investment advice please on: October 26, 2017, 12:43:06 PM
Can I give an example?

One of my coins is QTUM, It's gotten good reviews from the popular youtubers and holds it's price pretty well during the dips and has stayed in the top 20 on coinmarket cap for months, overall it seems like a good project, maybe one holding out for long term. However one poster in this thread pointed out that they don't have a working app yet as per this thread https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2243157 this begins to put their capacity to deliver into doubt.

Now, I've seen one coin called Neblio and have been watching it since it was below $1 and again they don't have a working product but like QTUM have a good team, they are new and are apparently are delivering ahead of schedule. In a short space of time it has gone to $5, those are excellent gains and so my question is should I of dumped QTUM for Neblio? Or should I have increased my portfolio (if I could just about afford to lose) and bought Neblio and still kept QTUM?

I see these scenarios all the time and wonder what is the best strategy and in the above example I missed out on a lot of money because I stuck to the plan and was too cautious.
12  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Investment advice please on: October 25, 2017, 11:29:37 PM
Thanks, I made a mistake the additional coins I am interested in are not ICO's they are already operating for at least a few months, some even years. After researching I see the possibility that some have yet to reach their full potential.

However I am concerned about taking on more coins when some say alt coins are in a bubble. And just wanted to know if investors have portfolios of many coins or do you prefer to invest more money in just a few or only bitcoin?

13  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Investment advice please on: October 25, 2017, 07:47:22 PM
I need some investment advice from the veterans here if possible.

Earlier this year I executed my plan and took the plunge by investing in 10 altcoins each with an equal amount of dollars, with some bitcoin left over. As this was my first time I made some mistakes in investing at the wrong time, other coins I did OK. I'm currently a little above what I originally invested in and feel quite comfortable for the time being.

Now that some months have past I feel that I would like to increase my position in all the coins I previously invested in which I believe are for the good long term.

However in the past months I have seen some ICO's with good potential and would of liked to have invested in them but couldn't because I wouldn't be sticking to my original plan with the coins I already invested in, and sure enough recently they had increased a lot in value and I could of made a good return. So my instincts were correct and I should of invested in some additional coins. I know it is said the FOMO is a strong feeling but what happens when it is right??

Are 10 alt coins enough to be investing in?

If I spot a good investment opportunity should I invest in more alts eg. from my original 10 up to 15, my worry is when does it end as the hype never ends.

All the coins I have currently invested in are good solid coins with a good long term future but may have already past their strongest growth phase. If I have a good feeling about an ICO which has good upside potential should I dump one from my current portfolio in favour of a newer coin which could explode?

Hard decisions....

I'm sure once the bitcoin fork is completed + time to allow dust to settle and when the wallet is done plus other useful marketing/promotional stuff is underway we should at the very least see some stability.

Hi, I believe I have the latest version but I can't see any QTUM wallet, I thought Exodus supported it.

Thanks.

Price has been fluctuating a ton today. lots of people selling and lots of people buying.

Taking profit elsewhere to nom nom nom on cheap kore.
I picked up plenty of cheap KORE...may go in for more

I reckon the sellers are traders taking profit and the buyers believe in the project...with so few coins, a hard bottom will be had (might be there now)

Price appears to have bottomed out and seems to be stable, I think investors are now waiting for Kore's next move which I'm looking forward to.

All the best.

Hi Guys, do you have a new website on the way as well? Just checked https://kore.life/ and seems to be down at the moment.

Thnx

The site is up and running.

http://www.kore.life/

Oh ok it's the same one as before, I was under the impression that a complete re-brand would take place with new site, logo, roadmap etc. That would attract new investors and help to keep the price stable IMO, getting bittrex to implement the wallet update is obviously a critical step but I'm thinking we need some high profile marketing campaign to kick off the re brand.

20  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: What are the chances of an exchange being hacked? on: August 17, 2017, 10:51:16 PM
Thanks all for your input, one last question. If I don't fall into a phising trap or download any malware and don't have any viruses how easy is it to be hacked and money stolen from a desktop wallet if you're running Win 10? For example if i'm targeted by some hacker. Just trying to gauge how secure I am as typical cryptocurrency user.
