1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Is Electroneum a SCAM??? on: November 12, 2017, 12:16:15 AM
Anyway, I've read through the whitepaper since I discovered the coin a few days ago. On paper, it looks very interesting. I can see the appeal of the coin. The only thing I'm really not sure about is the mobile mining part. I mean I use my phone regularly within a day and well, the battery does end up at 30-40% most evenings. I don't see mobile mining as something viable unless you keep your phone plugged in a power source.

The whitepaper explains that the mobile mining (they call it a "mining experience") is just a simulation. Your CPU  capabilities are sampled and you are credited some number of coins proportionate to this. IMO this is more akin to staking than mining, but it also sounds pretty fishy to me. It was one of the reasons I avoided the ICO.

That said, I do like their "mobile first" approach to crypto. I just think there are a ton of cryptos already and we don't need yet another built by an unknown team.  If you have some value to add, why not improve one of the many great projects already out there. Seems to me like just a money grab.
2  Economy / Exchanges / List of Crypto Currency Exchange Withdrawal Fees on: October 22, 2017, 09:42:16 PM
Hi,

I'm trying to put together a comprehensive list of all cryptocurrency exchange withdrawal fees.

I've started a spreadsheet here:

If you've got access to this data, please let me know or go ahead and edit.

Thanks!!

Can anyone tell me what "GHS asc" means vs GHS av (which I assume means a average over some period of time)?
4  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon A7 announced on: October 02, 2017, 01:29:22 PM
Without any doubt I went for S9 this time.

How much did you pay for the S9 compared to the 741?
5  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon A7 announced on: October 02, 2017, 02:12:49 AM
Do any of you have good experience using the voltage offset +1 option? Do you see any improvement in hashrate or is it just waste of electricity?

Sometimes on this option, I do get a reduced hashrate instead of an improvement.

0 and -1 work well.

+1.  Not good.  Most likely a hot psu is need .ie 12.5 volts on the button

What kind of hashrates can you expect from those voltage settings?

Right now at 0, I'm getting:

Hash Rate
GHS av: 6536GHs
GHS asc: 7412GHs

Seems low to me?

I received one unit from miner warez today as well. The box was obviously resealed, was also missing the information card and wrapping. Minor details.  I noticed some small amount of dust, caking on the interior and slight scuff marks on the casing. The label was also peeling just like in your video.

Given how hard it has been to get one of these, I'm not going to complain though I think it is misleading for them to call these "new".
7  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Wiring for a 220v PSU on: September 26, 2017, 05:29:23 PM
Thanks, Philip.  I ordered a PDU, and will  be setting everything up this weekend.  In the meantime, I've been told (by sidehack) that this 1200W PSU can be run on 120v, outputting 900w.  He said volt setting -2. Is this correct?

Thanks again!

95% sure the units I received from "Miner Warez" are used.  I took an unboxing video which is long, but I will edit/convert and post it soon.

How many did you order?

I'll be running two 741s on the circuit. At 240v I estimate they should pull about 5A apiece? I don't have any plans to expand beyond this at the moment, but I guess it's not out of the question and it probably wouldn't cost a whole lot more at this point to assume I will expand (as opposed to the cost and labor replacing down the road).  I am considering the PDU route I've seen mentioned elsewhere. I am just not sure it's worth the expense?
10  Bitcoin / Mining support / Wiring for a 220v PSU on: September 23, 2017, 09:06:27 PM
I'm sure this question has been asked more than once, but I'm not really finding anything good when I search so here goes...

I have a server-grade 220v PSU (I do not yet have a C13 cable for it), and a 220V (double throw) 20A breaker.  The breaker is in a subpanel but unwired.  I need to wire up a receptacle (or ideally, two receptacles), and then purchase a cable for the PSU.

My questions:

What kind of wire do I need coming from the breaker to the receptacle? (12/2? 12/3?)
What kind of receptacle should I buy?
I assume, based on the receptacle it should be fairly obvious which type of C13 power cord I will need.

Thanks!

Edit: forgot to mention, I'm in the USA.
11  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: Official group buy thread for avalon741 is closed no more orders! now frozen on: September 16, 2017, 05:56:26 PM
@sidehack do you still have any of the PSUs you had planned on selling during the group buy?
12  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon A7 announced on: September 16, 2017, 02:16:07 PM
Heads up. http://minerwarez.com is now sold out of avalons. I wonder if they will be restocking for the 20th?

14  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon A7 announced on: September 14, 2017, 12:35:08 AM
I just checked twitter and bitmain is starting sale of l3 and d3 in few hours, My dillema is if i should keep my btc to pay for canaan order(if they will ever send btc payment address) or try to get miner from bitmain which wont ship until end of year.
I already managed to pay for one D3 (late november batch) but i'm not even sure if dash mining will be still profitable by the time i will get it.

Any advice?
Thanks

I ordered a late November d3 back in august but have since sold it. It's anyone's guess how profitable dash mining will be in late november, but t is pretty clear that bitmain has sold quite a few of them. Even if the avalon doesn't ship until late October, it is half the price which in my mind equates to about half the risk.
15  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: Official group buy thread for avalon 741 buy is closed no more orders! on: September 06, 2017, 04:24:55 PM
I know you are annoyed but look at this from my viewpoint  12 hours labor so far  most likley all for naught.

I am disappointed, but not annoyed and I fully recognize and appreciate the (potentially wasted) time you put into this.

I was referring mainly to this: http://imgur.com/a/e7F01

I was not aware that this started as a sub-60 unit order.

In any case, the two order solution sounds like it should work for both parties.  We'll see.

Thanks again!

Thanks Phillip and Sidehack.

Hopefully they figure it out, but pretty crappy to change the rules like that after organizing everything.

For what it's worth, this rule has been stated pretty clearly on their site for at least a few weeks.  The rule was not changed.  Canaan is piss poor at communication, but they communicated this one bit of information pretty well.

Pending orders for Aug 31st batch

#89374  Snow_Dragon
#89619  Didley1JT
#89842  flameruk
#90193 Logan4el
#90679 Marzanna

lol  Grin No need for such a list. My order is #75834(from 13.08.2017) and I'm waiting for BTC address update(because the first has expired) since 28.08. Even before the last batch has been ready for sale.

Is it safe to assume orders will be processed in order (ie., according to order id, ascending) ?
