I wonder what's fueled the jump of more than 50% over the last day and a half over a bunch of the "better" coins.
pump & dump? FOMO?

that's a junk shill website. The same article has been up for over a year, they just change the dates on it.

So what do you guys think about this?
Nem would almost certainly be lumped in with the coins like Tron cardano and iota, because of the foundation.
Wonder what it means for the future

https://www.ccn.com/half-of-top-10-cryptocurrencies-may-be-securities-crypto-hedge-fund-executive/amp/

"Samani believes that, given the SEC’s guidelines, the number of implementations by independent teams is one valid metric which can be used to determine if an asset is truly decentralized. Following his logic, apart from bitcoin and ethereum, litecoin, bitcoin cash, and ethereum classic may be the only digital assets in the clear.

He said that, as it stands now, XRP, Tron, stellar, Cardano’s ADA token, and IOTA are almost certainly securities, while EOS may be a security but could quickly become a utility if the community pursues certain measures in the near future."

So in my last posts I was highly critical of nem and the lack of exposure/interest.
Is anyone else not concerned?
We have a extremely low volume, easily the lowest in the top 30
Nem Reddit sub is dead
Nem Bitcoin talk is dead save for a few regular posters
Nem official forms are even worse than the 2 above as far as being dead.

The meetups are good I guess. But I don't see how you're going to grow a huge user base 15-20 people at a time in random cities.

Just a list of concerns that really bother me about this coin. I want it to succeed and do well, but I'm frustrated by the lack of forward thinking and exposure.
I've held a large amount of coins for 3 years. I expect things to get better not worse. Instead of fading into obscurity I'd like to see relevance. Hype, hope, excitement.. something as opposed to the nothing we have currently. People are indifferent about this coin.. and that needs to change. If I had all the answers I'd post them. But I don't. At the end of the day it's the foundation's responsibility to ensure this coin succeeds. I hope they can do it.

Vechain about to pass us. Binance coin not far behind it.

I think that ninja nonsense was just something people told themselves to justify the lack of communicating and marketing. Someone said it and it has been repeated a bunch of times since then. Really disappointing how the foundation is handling things. There was an announcement months ago about Lon leaving and a new marketing team being put in place and a big marketing push.. but nothing has really happened other than a few shill articles on obscure crypto websites.

We need something that will truly move the needle or we're totally fucked. In reading interviews with the devs and others associated with the coin, I honestly believe them when they say they don't care about price.. and that much is obvious. Makes no sense to me. We're gonna lose so much marketcap and one more big slide and this coin will be out of the top 20.. and it's coming. Vechain is slowly creeping up while we fall.

Very frustrated with how things are being managed. This coin should be showing everyone else the way, instead they seem content to eat the crumbs left by the real big dogs.

Any constructive criticism for the foundation / marketing team? It's not like they're not doing anything. They just spent A LOT of money on the consensus pavilion, for instance. Granted, the success of that is somewhat debatable.

Development of catapult is ongoing, but slooooow. Wouldn't a HUGE marketing push now be a bit counterproductive?

Do you really think a public roadmap would make any difference? Imo, it seems like there's still a general awareness problem.

I don't think there are any constructive ideas to wait for. Mostly the people only claim to be interested, but all they are interested in is the price. There were no Fudder at 1$. The only thing the complained is that they haven't bought earlier.
It would be wrong  not to be present at Consensus or the other major events, but it´s true that the actual impact is hard to catch.

I have actually no problem with catapult taking its time and the marketing would solely make everyone more impatient.
But it sure would help most people to have some milestones or dates to look for. I can understand the demand of a roadmap because it is easier to wait for something defined.

Of course everyone is interested in the price. Very few people can afford to be an idealist and HOPE the coin takes over as some mega solution for the future 10 years down the road.
The foundation can because they're sitting on a ton of money, even at .25 cents. But for average joe schmoe who is buying and selling trying to make a buck, then the price is very important.
By that same token, price is what drives interest, and interest drives price. You can't have one without the other.
How the foundation expects to grow some massive userbase with a coin that is severely undervalued/underhyped that nobody knows about is a mystery to me.

I'm no expert, but barring some MAJOR announcement/partnership their current course of action seems to be underwhelming and will probably cause the coin to continue to slide. Which affects interest, which affects price, which affects interest some more.. not a nice cycle to be caught up in.

Look at coins like Tezos. It's not even released yet and there is a ton of hype and excitement for it. I guarantee it will shoot up to the top 5 or so and stay there once it is launched.
We've seen the same thing in the past with coins like Ether and Ripple which launched/started with a ton of hype and excitement, and they are flying sky high in terms of volume, awareness and marketcap. NEM is going in the opposite direction and it's frustrating to watch as someone who has held this coin since launch in 2015. I held through $1, and held through $2. But I wonder if I made a mistake in doing so.. especially since we seem to be drifting along aimlessly.

NEM straight up fucked themselves with their invisible approach.  They're done.  If you have no community, hype or marketing it is over.

I agree the 'ninja' shit stopped being an appealing idea a long, long time ago and it was not a clever move in the first place but it's also over now and efforts are being made. It doesn't need empty hype either. A little justified hype would certainly not have gone amiss.

Right now a lot of seeds are being planted with NEM. If they don't lead anywhere its days as a top ish coin could well be over for the foreseeable future, but it will be chugging away long after almost everything else that's around now is dust.

This pathetic lack of volume compared to the rest of the to 15 is really concerning to me. Am I the only one who feels this way?

It's always, always had a pathetic lack of volume until it violently doesn't for short periods of time. Everything pumps again eventually as long as it stays above ground.
8  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM (XEM) Official Thread - 100% New Code - Easy To Use APIs on: June 04, 2018, 11:12:54 PM
I truly believe in this coin and honestly think it's one of the best out there. But I don't think the vast majority agree with that statement. Nobody seems to give a shit about it, and that concerns me.

I used to think that catapult would "catapult" nem onto the main stage and in the spotlight. But I wonder if catapult mainnet will even move the needle. With the way things are going I think not. If a superior solution exists and nobody cares about it, is it really superior?

I understand the whole market is down and that plays a factor, but a bigger problem is the coin itself and lack of marketing and awareness. Although on the plus side, Last time we had a big lull like this we came storming out of nowhere to reach $2.

There's an old saying that goes: if one person is the problem, they're the asshole. If everyone is the problem, you're the asshole.
Are we (nem holders) the collective assholes?

Is there any hope for this coin? It’s never recovered since the hack and catapult has been teasing us for over a year (which is = to decades in the crypto market) seems like XEM is just another pie in the sky.

Nobody seems to care about it, that's for damn sure. No hype, no enthusiasm, nothing.
10  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM (XEM) Official Thread - 100% New Code - Easy To Use APIs on: April 25, 2018, 12:16:31 AM
I don't understand the devs. They bitch about community but haven't done much of anything to grow it. Meet ups with 15-30 people are all well and good, but in the big picture they mean jack shit. I'm tired of the nem foundation putting slightly more than zero effort into growing and expanding the user base.

Barring some major corporate partnership they're working on in the background that will be a game changer, the lack of marketing is pathetic.
And before anyone gets on their high horse and says how dare I question anything, just remember that all of us buying, paying for and keeping this market afloat can absolutely bitch about the lack of movement.
11  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM (XEM) Official Thread - 100% New Code - Easy To Use APIs on: April 24, 2018, 07:56:29 PM
It look like the ice age for NEM could be behind us, the price seems to be stabilizing.

NEM should be pumping a lot harder actually.  TRON is way ahead in market cap which is just fucking crazy.  Don't even get me started on the vaporware EOS and Cardano.  Sadly this is going to continue until NEM actually sees real world use - that won't be necessary for the other ones because they are only about pump and everyone knows it.  Sometimes I wonder how NEM managed to completely avoid the most striking facet of crypto while being the best blockchain around.  It is literally invisible and never, ever discussed anywhere.  How the hell did NEM blow their PR THAT bad?  All they need to do is go and shill a bit in /r/cryptocurrency for a while but they can't be bothered.  Mind boggling and very lazy.

Nems performance during this pump has been pathetic. Price and volume was better when coincheck started repaying funds vs now, total market cap was way lower than it is now. Hopefully we will see some positive momentum soon.

This coin just cannot catch a break. Everytime the overall marketcap takes a dump, nem sheds more sats. It just can't seem to gain any ground with the market being the way it is. It's pretty disappointing. I know many of the others are losing ground as well, but nem is the only one outside the top 10 and down at #15 now.
13  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM (XEM) Official Thread - 100% New Code - Easy To Use APIs on: March 08, 2018, 10:33:15 PM
Interesting and nice to see. Hopefully the previous holders will get back into the market. After all, they can get more NEM now than they previously held for the refund amount Coincheck is giving them.

That is true. They can buy almost 3x what they lost at current rates. Hopefully they all see it was the exchange's fault and not NEM's. Maybe in the long term this will be a blessing in disguise. Who knows. Hopefully something good comes of it though.

I read the article but where do you read how those people who lost funds get reimbursed? Do they get NEM or do they get the equivalent of the moment when the theft happened in BTC? If the exchange reimburses them in NEM that would mean they need to buy it from the market and push the price up.

I thought I read they were getting reimbursed in jpy. Don't quote me on that, but if so I'm hoping they see what a good deal is staring them in the face and buy up 3x as much NEM as they had before the hack. It will drive up demand and price, as well as gain ground vs btc, which is down a bit now. Then hopefully when the broader market picks up, we will be in a better position to rise with it and recapture some of those lost gains. More importantly, such a move would probably vault us back into the top 10, and give us more breathing room and a higher support floor.

Another observation, i think nem wallets being disabled on most exchanges prevented a truly staggering free fall.
If all wallets had been operational after the hack we'd have probably witnessed the fastest and most complete fall crypto had seen up to this point. I think disabled wallets prevented a mass exodus, and let things bleed out over the last 2 months.

Problem is now, we've got nowhere else to go. We're right at the limit. Seemed to find support at .40 for awhile, but can't sustain any positive movement. I'd expect this latest downturn to go all the way to .28- .29 cents. I hope it doesn't but there's really nothing to keep it proped up at this point.

And thats not even taking into account a overall bear market trend. What if crypto as a whole loses 200b market cap again?
It would be ugly... We'd likely be back in the teens or  high single digits.
16  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM (XEM) Official Thread - 100% New Code - Easy To Use APIs on: March 04, 2018, 03:26:35 AM
Things are pretty ugly with no signs on the horizon of improving. We've now given up 100% of the gains from Dec and Jan. And going the wrong way fast.

I know we were bitching about how stagnant things were between Aug to Nov, but were generally trending upward in that time. It seems now we're going straight into the shitter with no signs of slowing. That hack was the worst thing to have happened. Who knows if we'll ever see $2 again. If things don't reverse it'll be a long while, if ever. We're losing a ton of market share while tmc is going upward.
When the tmc was 250b we were 2x from where we are now. Now it's 450b and we're below .35 cents.
All the charts are pointing toward the toilet..
Hopefully things change for the better.

nem is officially in the shitter. I hope it can climb back out.. but as of now nem has retraced or given back almost 100% of the gains it made in dec/jan...
that is pathetic. Many of the others have suffered pretty big setbacks as well, but not 100% worth. I hope the bleeding stops soon. Nobody seems interested in the coin, volume is a pathetic $17 million.. not many are buying or selling and there is zero hype or interest it seems.

I wonder if nem blew its wad during that $2 runup and will take years to recover.. hopefully not because it will be forgotten if that is the case.

14th place now.everyone has gone past us while we're stuck in neutral.
Confluence of shitty events have put us in the crapper. 20 mil in volume and less than 4bn tmc.
Etherum classic passed us now. We're in a shitty position now.
Gonna take a miracle to float us back up to 10b tmc.. much less past it.

There's a very real possibility NEM ends up falling to 14th place. A week ago the idea would have been laughable, but we're slowly sinking beneath the waves.
20  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM (XEM) Official Thread - 100% New Code - Easy To Use APIs on: February 18, 2018, 02:13:09 AM
Yeah, price action or lack thereof is annoying. Volume is up 3 to 4x higher than normal, price isn't budging though. Very odd. I'd guess itll take a big leap up sooner rather than later, to be honest I'm surprised it hasnt given what the volume has been the last few days.
Maybe we'll see a rebound to around $1 in a week or two. If volume stays this high vs. the historical crappiness, something has to give eventually
