You can join a campaign to gain small amounts of ICO coins, for the most part. Occasionally you'll see other campaigns pop up for established coins, but those are less common. Mostly it's a means of providing advertising to a coin you believe will gain value quickly, as that's the only way to really make money from them.

Really nervous about the difficulty spiking before one of these could actually turn over a profit.

Honestly they stand to dominate it unless the US starts acting like they know how to create infrastructure. Yo, securities department, get your shit together.

So far the rig is giving me an average of .00011 btc per day, according to nicehash. It's mostly spent it's time running the lyra2rev2 algorithm at 11.5 MH/s. No clue what coin it's mining because, well, nicehash.
If I was paying for the power this would be ridiculous, for now I suppose it will be a learning rig that I'm not afraid of setting on fire.
Thanks guys!

Hi,
I have a handful of 7870's and a 760TI, 2gb each, wired up to an old computer that's running Arch Linux atm. It's a bit of a shoddy setup, but I don't care about the power usage, I just want to see what I can mine with it.
Any suggestions for coin targets? Any chance of this system actually turning a respectable amount of coins out, given that I don't pay for power?

The idea of mining is sound, so I can't imagine it'll ever truly become impossible to profit. We'll just be moving to new currencies, or the next valuable distributed farm technology will come up. I find it hard to believe we won't find another use for the massive number of calculations the world can put out at the moment.

I am really not looking forward to the mark up these are going to see from resellers, but I really, really want to play with them!

I don't feel like you can get many people invested without demonstrating actual value of the coins. I love the idea, but I'm wary of the execution.

I feel like this is definitely the future of art, but how it's going to be implemented will be difficult.

Hum, no new technology, no real definition of how you intend to drive profits, I'm a little disappointed.

I'd love to see this work! Maybe people can create a living off of building solar farms, even if it's a bit less efficient than industrial processes.

I've got an old 760TI in there, that's about it. Most were ripped out of friend's boxes as I was upgrading parts, so they're old/stock/beat up. 5 cards for free is still something, right?

Huh. Guess the miners will have to find a new coin.

I'd like to see more developments like this; reducing the profit large companies can make from human necessities is a huge potential gain for the average person.

Speculating in two fields at once? Now that's throwing my money away efficiently!

There just aren't any decent stick miners. The Gekko sticks come closest, but they're still never going to give you a meaningful return. Best to wait for the next set of stick miners that come out.

Are any of these sites built around p2p betting? Poker and the like? I've never liked playing against the house.

Good luck!

Same as any other scam;
If you find yourself with a potential for huge profit but the underlying scheme is opaque, you're about to be scammed.
