1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: New Antminer S9 more discarded shares than accepted on: May 08, 2018, 06:09:14 AM
Thanks for the detailed reply. Much appreciated. I should get my first payout in a couple of hours. I have my pool set to PPS. Thanks again.
2  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / New Antminer S9 more discarded shares than accepted on: May 07, 2018, 10:35:36 PM
Hi,

I am new to mining and have setup my new S9. I have created an account on pool.bitcoin.com and think that I am currently mining for the past 6 hours. The Antminer web interface says i'm mining at 14TH/s, pool.bitcoin.com says I am hashing at 14TH/s but I do not know what each field means. I am also concerned that I am getting many more discarded shares than accepted.

Elapsed: 36m37s > This is clearly uptime (I powered down and moved the miner so this number is low).
GH/S(RT): 13,917.49 > Current hashrate.
GH/S(avg): 14,068.84 > Average hashrate.
FoundBlocks: 0 > I presume my miner itself has solved 0 blocks (to be expected).
LocalWork: 113,217 > Not sure what this is, number of processed shares maybe?
Utility: 13.87 > No idea what utility is.
WU: 209,404.97 > also no idea.
BestShare: 9511186 > I'm not clear on this either. Are some shares better than others?

In the pool stats I have 1,380 discarded shares? My accepted shares is only 588. This seems very wrong to me?

I am using an EVGA Supernova 1600w T2 PSU. I have not updated the firmware on my S9 as I have no idea of what version is currently on it, which of the several firmware files available on bitmain.com is the correct one for my miner, or whether I need to or not. It is brand new and the latest batch so surely it has the latest firmware on it already? Especially considering it's the latest batch and all the files appear to be dated May 2017 on bitmain.com?

I can ssh into my miner as well using the locally DHCP assigned IP. I logged in to shut it down with the poweroff command. A list of ssh commands for the S9 would be handy but I couldn't find one.

As I said, I've been mining for several hours now but have 0 BCH balance on my pool.bitcin.com account despite my hashrate being indicated as 14TH/s. I did make a few mistakes that I am not sure how to fix. Firstly when signing up, I accidentally put my BCH wallet address in the BTC address field. I was able to subsequently populate my BCH address field with the BCH address but I cannot remove the address from the BTC field as it says I cannot have an empty field for BTC address? I don't have a BTC wallet and I am not mining BTC. I just want to mine BCH and have some confirmation that I am earning BCH and not just wasting electricity.

The second mistake I made is in the antminer pool configuration, I deleted pool 2 and pool 3 and copy and pasted pool 1 info into them. I didn't want them pointing to antpool.com but now instead the backup pools all point to the exact same address and port etc. Not sure if that could be causing my excessive discarded shares issues?

Sorry for so many questions, hopefully someone can help? Thanks.

how to mine with amd?

I use Avermore Miner for Windows

sgminer.exe -k x16s -o stratum+tcp://<pool address>:<port> -u <wallet address> -p <password if required> -X 256

Seems to be working with my AMD R9 290, getting about 4Mh/s on average.
4  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Mining Monero on supportxmr.com pool with only 703 h/s will I ever get a payout? on: April 28, 2018, 05:39:44 PM
You will get paid. There is a lag for blocks to be processed. You won’t see XMR show up in your wallet until you pass the payout limit of 0.3 XMR or 0.1 (if you lower it).

Ok thanks, that's good to know. Do I lower it to 0.1 with a command line switch? How do I lower it? Thanks.

So I know that my hash rate is almost non-existant compared to the total hashrate of 98mh/s of the pool so I am not expecting much, but will I get anything at all? I have noticed that the pool has mined a few blocks since I started. I have also been mining for several hours which is more than the 2 hour payout period. Does the pool server just keep tabs of how much I have earned and then only pays it out when it is above the minimum payout limit, or if my hashrate is too low to meet the minimum then I get nothing? Finally, will I see my balance in my Monereo GUI wallet? When can I expect to see my balance change from 0 to something positive no matter how small? As a first time miner, I just need some sort of confirmation that I've done this correctly and will actually get a payout sometime soonish. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.
You'd be better to use miningpoolhub they have a lower payout also if you want to switch to a different coin to mine that's more profitable you can auto exchange it to xmr to add to the balance you have from mining

Different coin that is more profitable? How would I know which was more profitable? I thought Monero wold be most profitable as it is ASIC resistant and has not many miners compared to many other coins? What other coins are more profitable for my little GPU?

Ah that was it, thanks! The config already had "-pow7 1" commented out for me ready to add it. Also switched to port 5555 as recommended. Seems to be working now. 703 h/s. That'll do for now.

Warning! Not totally related general newbie rant  Wink

This isn't easy. As a newbie wanting to mine ANY coin that is minable and returns at least some profit, I decided to go for Monero and a mining pool. I came to this conclusion because you cannot solo mine any coin it seems, that boat sailed several years ago. I chose Monero because it is ASIC resistant and recently hardforked (by consensus) to prevent a recent popular ASIC miner from being usable. It seems that with my R9 290 I might just be able to make a very modest profit. I can add more cards later for an increased hash rate.

So, I needed a Monero wallet, so I downloaded and ran Monero GUI for Windows. Let it sync the 49GB blockchain file and clicked mine in the advanced tab just to see what it was all about. I got around 75 h/s on my CPU solo mining. I then proceeded to look for how I can configure my wallet software to mine from a pool. Well it can't, why not? who knows? Perhaps Monero don't want to encourage pool miners in order to reduce centralisation I thought. Anyway turns out that's the norm across coins, official coin wallet software can solo mine but not pool mine (a bit pointless if you can't solo mine anyway realistically on a regular PC which 99% of the population of the world have?). I also made some observations with my monero gui wallet. On my main gaming rig, I downloaded the entire 49GB in one night. On my laptop it took a week? No idea what I was doing wrong. Also, as an experiment, before downloading the 49GB hidden data.mdb file, I tried to copy it and replace the partially downloaded file on another system to see if I could avoid the waiting time. Didn't work, assumed as much but wanted to see if I could get away with it. Surely the data in there is the same across nodes? Anyway another seemingly reasonable incorrect noob assumption.

Turns out I didn't need to worry at all anyway. Pool miners don't seem to need to have the blockchain downloaded in order to mine. They can just use mining software and a wallet address. Could have attempted starting mining straight away had I known that. Is this another reason why default wallet software should support pool mining? Least then pool miners would be supporting and verifying the full chain.

So, open google, "Monero Pool Mining", ah yes, lots of pools, no idea what makes a good one but lets pick the one with the most hashing power because reasons. Maybe they solve the most blocks and therefore guaranteed more frequent payouts of probably 0.000000001 XMR. Although I think I read somewhere that the minimum payout is 0.3 XMR? Anyway no idea, don't care right now, I wanna MINE!!!!! I want to see those wallet numbers go up! Even if its only by tiny amounts. It would be somehow psychologically satisfying, as if my efforts are not completely futile. I used to run seti@home back in the day, didn't care about the electric cost then running a single system, same goes now, just want to see some fruits to my labour.

So, ok, I can use anyone of these pool mining clients I found with a google search. Let's pick Claymore, it says AMD GPU mining, so let's go with that one and hope for the best. Pretty straight forward so far, download, extract, place in Program Files and click start.bat! Simples, wait no, you didn't think it would be that easy did you? No but I did hope. Yes I did see the config file but there's no reason why a noob proof client couldn't automatically create an address for me, detect my hardware and settings, and start mining from a pool for me is there? Click and go! To be honest though, I did actually put my wallet address and pool address in the config file before clicking start.bat, but that was all I did. Clearly not enough. Now my IP is banned!? What did I do? All I want to do is mine, sheesh now I'm getting banned for being a typical lazy human. It looked promising for a second when I saw 709 h/s, yes! 709 that's roughly what I was expecting for my R9 290. But what's all this "Share rejected (93 ms)!" nonsense. What's a share? and why was it rejected? Did I offend someone?

Clearly I don't know what any of this means, should I? Somethings not right here. "watchdog - thread 0, hb time 391" Oh nooos, the watchdog is on to me. I hope it is a friendly dog. Nope, not friendly, look what it said: "Incorrect hashing protocol in use.  Please upgrade/fix your miner", fix it? I didn't write it? I have no idea what its doing? Protocol? I don't know what protocol its using? TCP/IP maybe? Sheesh!

Oh, and now I've been banned! "IPAddresscurrentlybannedforusinganinvalidminingprotocol, pleasecheckyourminer", I'm sorry I forgot, stupid people clearly aren't allowed to mine, the community wants the world to adopt cryptocurrencies but forgot to factor in the fact that 90% of the world can't work this stuff out easily. A great deal of effort is required. Time and Effort. If we want people to embrace cryptocurrencies then it needs to be as easy as possible. Easy enough that my mother who doesn't know the difference between FaceBook and Internet Explorer can do it.

Well I'm stumped. I have no idea what this all means. I know I've configured something wrong somewhere. If I could code properly, I would have made this a lot simpler because I'm not sadistic and I'm sympathetic to the human condition. I would have made a Windows GUI that generates a wallet for you, detects your hardware, and then automatically selects an appropriate mining pool (with an option to easily manually change it of course). The client would then frequently remind the user that although it got the job done for your lazy ass, settings are far from optimal and you could be missing out on energy efficiency and profit. A warning and daily tooltips that explain in detail everything. An all in one package application. It would also have an advanced tab for everything needed for people who do actually know what they are doing and for those lazy ass noobs to eventually find and slowly come to understand (with a huge reset to defaults button for when they inevitably balls it up though).

Ok, so enough complaining, here's the details for the humanitarian among you who still wants to help me despite me being a poor specimen of my species:

How long does Bitcoin Cash BCH have to be ranked #3 before you will allow full trade in it? Why did you ignore my previous question on this?

Hi,

Why do you still not support Bitcoin Cash? It is the 3rd ranking cryptocurrency based on market capitalisation and 1 BCH has the highest value against the dollar next to Bitcoin. Is your disregard for Bitcoin Cash philosophical? It should be your customers who decide what top coins they exchange.

Ah that explains it. Thanks.

How long do Bitcoin cash withdrawals usually take? I have sent my Bitcoin cash to a Bitcoin cash wallet but it just says pending. Been like that for an hour. Bitcoin is usually within seconds, so just wondering why Bitcoin cash is slower? Thanks.

Hi,

Will you be incorporating PayPal into Bitpanda? I was surprised to see all these different payment methods but PayPal was missing. Would be so easy and convenient for me (and others I am sure). One last thing, if you chose to pay by VISA, the language goes from being in English and switches to German. I don't speak or read German, fortunately it was easy to guess and I could have googled the words if I had needed to, however, cleaning that up might be worth doing at some point. Thanks and sorry for all the questions. I am sure there will be more.

Hi,

How long can I keep my Bitcoin Cash in my Bitpanda account? Will it disappear if I don't make a decision what to do with it soon? Is there a timeout on it? I'm still not sure what I want to do with it. Thanks.

Hello confusedpanda,

you can only sell or withdraw BCH on Bitpanda.

Do you have any plans to fully support both buying and selling of bitcoin cash? What will happen to my bitcoincash in November when there is a hard fork?

We will post a Hard fork policy this week for the upcoming forks. but the Bitcoin cash will not be affected at all in November. Only the Bitcoin Network will be forked.

Regards

If you are referring to the October 25th Bitcoin Gold fork, then aren't you leaving it very late to let everyone know what is going on? It's only a few days away! I can't find a source for the actual date of the SegWit2x fork though. People were concerned earlier in the year over what would happen with the Bitcoin Cash fork, now it seems the same is happening and people don't know who is going to get their bitcoin gold etc? It seems the more I learn the more confused I get Sad

Hi,

I have a small amount of Bitcoin Cash that cloned over from the fork. I would like to purchase more BCH but it says it is disabled. Why can I not purchase BCH? Thanks.

Still a ConfusedPanda Smiley

I thought it might be google authenticator so I searched my phone for it but it asked to install it, I went ahead and installed it and setup my google account with 2FA but there wasn't anything about bitpanda on it. I think I have wiped my phone since I first setup. I have emailed support and got an auto reply with a ticket number. Hopefully that will lead to a solution. I'm sure I must be able to recover my account because I had to have my mugshot taken with my passport etc Smiley

I can't login to my account. It goes to a 2FA screen but nothing comes up on my mobile (I would only ever use my mobile for 2FA). If I installed an app for it when I regiostered then I have no idea what the app is, where it is, or how to use it. I have looked for my original sign up emails and they just say welcome etc blah blah blah, nothing about 2FA. I wanted to buy some coin today but can't. I looked for authentication emails too but nothing has come through. Please help! You don't seem to have a support telephone line.
