Hi Alan,

It seems as though everyone these days are getting back into the BTC community. Have you been mining or simply investing in BTCs?

Minor speculation at this point.  I wanted to get a "feel" for it before I came out condoning it.  However after seeing the survivalist spirit of btc in the face of so much aversion, I'm quite inspired.  This p2p currency can be applied to many applications.

BTCGaga, how long have you been in and what's your position (mine/spec/business)?

Alan,

I am interested in mining and doing business related apps with BTC. I am on the forum to learn more about different developments and to connect to talented individuals who have a can-do attitude.
2  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Way to get round the 5 post limit... on: June 02, 2013, 06:59:29 AM
My thoughts regarding the requirements:

[1] 5 posts requirement:

What if instead of going for quantity, we go for quality of the post?

With the five posts requirement, I find myself asking questions, or posting comments that I know I am not personally as enthusiastic or interested in.

Perhaps in the future, if we could either require 5 posts or 1 to 2 substantive post. This is based purely on the length of the message.

I find that usually lengthy posts are ones where individuals have lots to say, and therefore are really engrossed in the subject.

Don't we want to promote that kind of forum? Rather than just random rambling such as "this is my 5th posts, yah!"?

Instead, we have consolidated thoughts all in one post where each individual member can say their one big piece, and then get engrossed into the community.

[2] Time Requirement:

Instead of 4 hours on the forum, I would suggest lowering it down to 2 or 3 hours. I believe that is a sufficient amount of time for barrier.

People such as myself join the Bitcoin Talk community to engage and contribute back.  Therefore while I do understand the restriction, I think it is also important to find the right balance between proper deterrence and appropriate encouragement of a constructive community.

A third option

Perhaps we can have a mandatory video viewing. Those that are truly interested, may pay acute attention, those that do not, continue to do what they do. This way, those that would like to learn more about Bitcoin and the forum, would be well informed.

welcome to the forums!  Why don't you start off by telling us a bit about yourself?

Hello,

I am interested in connecting with web developers to do BTC related websites. I am also interested in connecting to assemblers who can put together Asic mining rigs. Where do I pull together these resources on the forum?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hello Bitcointalk and the larger bitcoin community,

My name is Evan Alan Evans, or simply just Alan.  I've been following btc since May of 2011 and just now entering the forum community.  Btc is extremely exciting!

I'm a film-maker with Filament Features located in Hollywood, CA and I also fancy myself as an entrepreneur who's looking to start my first business this year.

On of the main reasons I'm on this board is to bounce ideas, share projects that I'm involved with, to make new friends/business contacts and to explore the growing world of bitcoin.

Wishing everyone the up most best,

Alan

Well, this is my first time with Ripple too.  Seems that I had missed their giveaway.  If anyone can send me something to get started, I would be grateful

For some bitcoins I can send you some, cause ripples have gone up in value. PM me.

I have been hearing alot about Ripple, but I still do not understand what is going on. I hear from one side that Ripple is amazing and that I should invest, and then on the other, that Ripple is a scam. Which is it?

Just like bitcoin don't invest what you can't lose. A lot of people call ripple a scam cause unlike bitcoins it is run by a company out to make a profit. So people that hardcore bitcoiners take that as an automatic scam alert. It is more of an exchange that uses a different method to exchange. Instead of send the money first and then making the exchange. Ripple makes you send it to a gateway, they hold on to it like escrow you make trades and then when your ready to cash out of the ripple system it will then credit your bitcoin address or bank account or whatever. That is also why people call it a scam. Opencoin the company that runs ripple, which is open source and you can run your own gateway, was just backed by Google ventures. Also the the team has Jed who created Mt Gox back in 2010, and edonkey. So you have to make up your own mind and I gave you a very basic overview.

Gweedo,

That was really helpful, thank you!

What is the rule here in posting? How many posts must I do before I become a junior member, and then a full member, and then a hero member?

So far, I feel like all the other copies of Bitcoin (apart from Namecoin and PPC) don't really bring anyting new to the table.

Is LiteCoin catching on according to you guys?

I think that will be hard. By the way, why do you need WU when you already have BTC?

Please update us with your progress. I am very interested to learn about how you are doing and what solution you found.

11  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Crypto-Trade.com Brand New Trading Website! on: June 02, 2013, 05:55:40 AM
site have been live for 6-7 hrs, then went down and has been down for more than 10 hours now.. worst launch ever.
any news from the a$$hole that manages this thing?

It has been up and stable since, online support is fantastic, quick answers.

Here is what happened from the news section of the site:
05/27/2013 Downtime and technical issue update
"We would like to offer our apologies for the downtime in the last hours. We had a big technical issue which forced us to put the site in maintenance, in order to fix it quickly. Site is now back and functional."

Is there a more efficient way to convert USD to BTC?

I would suggest reading up on the trust system.  The above link goes to the announcement topic from the Meta section.

I'm going to leave this thread unlocked for newbies to ask questions and help each other understand.  Useless replies and off-topic remarks will be deleted.

Edit - This is a useless reply:

+1 for trust

Hello, forgive me as I am new here. I still do not understand how this trust system will really promote the community since anyone can just put in random rating, right?

We're interested in establishing a business grounded in providing helpful information and guidance to the layman interested in investing in the bitcoin market (you can call it a trust fund). We'd like to have a website built and moderated ASAP; wherein we'll manage a blog that our investors can reference to learn more about the day-to-day activities within bitcoin's economy. Before long they should look no further than the television news, but a blog will suffice for a multitude of needs.

In addition to those services, we've set goals to establish a business that can be funded initially by private investors, followed by an IPO on the GLBSE. More to come from that.  Wink

Thanks for considering us businesses!

Coinvestor Team

Ccoinvestor, have you been able to find a savy web developer? If you do, can you also let me know who that is. I am looking for someone who is credible to work on a project I have in mind as well.
