Not a bad price, surprised these are still available

What type of confidence you do have that HashFast will deliver their GN chips? Additionally, where is that confidence coming from? Have you spoken with members of their team or do you have access to their chips/boards already?

I ask for several reasons, most being to clean up the bad taste in my mouth!

Funny coin!

You may want to check out Marscoin if you are looking for another space coin.  Unlike Saturncoin though, Marscoin donated 400k coins to the MarsOne project.  MarsOne supporting the use of the coin... could be an interesting development.

4  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: ○ Marscoin [MRS] Colonizing Mars! on: February 16, 2014, 11:31:37 PM
I've spoken with the devs, they are going to be speaking at the Texas Conference and might be at the New York conference for alt currencies.  This is a coin that has potential, with some time and continued development there will be quite a bit of traction here.

If you have ideas to continue publicity on Marscoin, share them here!
5  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN]ASICMiner Publicly Looking for Potential Customers/Partners for New Chips on: February 16, 2014, 11:27:39 PM
Don't panic! Really! The tapeout should occur about now. AM will have reference chips by the end of February and are going to get back to all people interested when they have the chips tested and their actual specifications determined. Friedcat is committed to give an announcement before March and I'd be puzzled if this happens before about February 25th.
Wait for the actual final offer and you'll be fine.

I have to believe this is spot on. I've worked with a few ASIC companies and they either communicate well or not at all.  Friedcat has a long history in this business, I anticipate communication from him or his team in the next few weeks.
6  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: So It Wasnt All Down To Gox? on: February 12, 2014, 04:43:37 PM
WesandEAC, not really sure what you are getting at but I'll just leave it.  Yes Bitcoin is an experiment, just like Facebook and the internet and electric cars and electricity.

As for Gox, of course they are to blame. Gox broadcast it's incompetency for the whole world to see, shining a bright light on Bitcoin instead of it's own failures as an exchange.  In doing so it disrupted the economy and created this network wide attacked on bitcoin transaction malleability.  If it's not Gox, I'm not really sure who else you could blame for it....
7  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [Official] Cryptsy Coin Poll on: February 12, 2014, 04:32:32 PM
I am pulling for Marscoin (MRS) to get added to this list.  The coin is based on LTC and was publicly launched mid January.  Only 600k coins were premined, 400k of which were donated to MarsOne to support the mission to mars!

It is currently trading on Cryptorush.in  There is a thread on cryptsy to get it added.  You can read more on marscoin.org!

Best use case of a "Coin for a Cause" that I've seen so far.  Worth a look.
8  Economy / Economics / Re: Economic Devastation on: February 12, 2014, 04:27:46 PM
I am reading alot of black and white perspective on economic divisions, the movement of labor and technical progression of our society.  The way capitalist markets work, may very well fail in the future.  There is alot of support here and in history that could identify capitalism, and current socio-economic conditions, as failing to redistribute wealth appropriately.

Alternatively, I do believe that all progress is built in fits of starts and stops.  Layers build on top of layers until we reach the present day. To argue that an entire system or way of life is going to completely disappear completely defies the laws of existence.

Consider labor and the workforce.  It is quite possible that technology will replace the majority of skilled labor, and a large portion of blue collar labor.  What is hard to quantify is the degree at which technology removes jobs as well as creates jobs.

Take an industry such as forestry for example.  Rewind time 150 years to pre 1900's.  At that time, men would chop down trees with axes and two man saws.  There was no heavy equipment, no chain saws, no forestry equipment, no trucks.  When that machinery was developed, it was a crushing blow to many of the men that would be required to cut down forests by hand!  What a shock it must have been, and oh how technology was killing jobs!

Now fast forward to current day.  We have heavy machinery, sure, but that machinery requires manpower to run it. It creates additional jobs in the form of Engineers that have to create the heavy machinery.  This creates demand for heavy metals and rubber and plastics, as well as fuel for the equipment.  There is safety equipment that men wear as well, a whole new industry of protective glasses and hard helmets that did not exist before.  Consider that scientists spend time researching deforestation and climate change, and as such have also created jobs in industries that are symbiotic with forestry.  Additionally, forestry companies employee teams of planters to replant forests and create renewable sources of lumber.  Also consider that land is being bought and sold by realtors to the forestry companies for the purposes of harvesting.

To argue that the future of technology will ultimately completely destroy entire systems, would be a fallacy.  Systems are created naturally over time and tend to be built on top of each other, with some portions regressing dramatically until new progress is built on the old layers.  Given time we are going to see tremendous change in our economies and our labor markets. What exactly will come of all this is impossible to quantify.

11  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN]ASICMiner Publicly Looking for Potential Customers/Partners for New Chips on: February 11, 2014, 03:25:43 PM
We are very interested in a partnership going forward.  We run an institutional mine and have quite a bit of capital to invest into a wholesale relationship for chips.

Please consider us. Thanks.

To repeat again:

"FC asked for PMs or emails, not questions in this thread"
And people who can't even read simple instructions, won't likely be good partners for anything.

I've done both, as I would prefer not to fall through the cracks on this.

13  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: ○ Marscoin [MRS] Colonizing Mars! on: February 06, 2014, 05:41:24 PM
The faster blocks make sense though if you want to protect yourself from Earth miners (see discussion in their forum under "Evil Earth Miner Scenario".
Except it does nothing to protect you...
Earth just needs more hashrate, and their blockchain trumps Mars', no matter how delayed.

It will make it harder as it adds a much higher burden on a co-ordinated attack from Earth. Yes, they will have more hashing power, but to advance such a large blockchain in such a short time frame it will need a concerted effort from Earth to do that.
I don't see how; the terrestials will just naturally create a forked blockchain, and if they have a higher hashrate, it will replace the martian one as soon as it gets far enough ahead...
On top of that, if the Marscoin network adds a timestamping or other security measures that are local to Mars an attack from Earth is impossible due to the distance.
I'm not aware of any such measures that can be taken without centralising the currency.

Regarding the coin supply: it aligns with the departure of the Marscoin blockchain to Mars:
Why is this a good thing? I'd think it make more sense to have most of the coins mined on Mars itself, not most on Earth...

Depends. The idea is to raise the money NOW to actually help make the Mars mission a reality. Thus you increase the incentive for people to get into the currency before the blockchain leaves. Once on Mars, the Marscolonists have better things to do than to put their servers on a mining armsrace - Marscoin on Mars will then mainly become a transaction network. If need be, the minimal mining that will continue could be monopolized by MarsOne or whoever runs the base to pay early Mars settlers to incentivise the growth of the colony.
Raising the money is done with the premine. Beyond that, it doesn't help raise money at all.
If all the subsidy is mined before leaving Earth, then where is the incentive for martians to mine at all, much less maintain the same hashrate as it had on Earth?
Keep in mind that the difficulty needs to be high enough to make it resistant to attacks...[/b]

Of course it makes sense to start the coin now.  You have to understand that this is in fact a good test of a "use case" for coins.  Coins can represent a project, idea, an ideology or medical problem like curing aids.  If people BELIEVE in the cause, they will put money into the coin. They will buy it, mine it, and support it.  It's a direct influence on the primary holders of the coins, which happens to be MARS One.  Without use by the community, it would illiquid and would represent nothing.

If coins like this manage to thrive, many more will pop up representing causes that society values. You want to help homeless people? How about an abused animal coin to help all those poor dogs on TV with those big beedy eyes and sad music.  If MRS succeeds it's a fantastic use case example of how money can be moved to support a cause through this new digital ecosystem we are developing.
14  Economy / Services / Re: Looking to Hire: Programmer/Dev on: February 06, 2014, 02:23:14 PM
I do meet all of your requirements/skills except for the last one.

I know enough about BTC and altcoins, plus I mine/trade, however I've never run a pool or anything else.

I live in Shrewsbury, which is close to Boston, and can travel if needed. I'm not looking for anything full time, but various nights and weekends could work for me.

Main programming language is PHP, and I haven't really touched Python, but I know they're similar. I can use Postgres/MySQL, have experience configuring Apache, currently working as a senior software engineer for GTxcel on their Rivista CMS.

Let me know if you're interested, I can provide a resume over PM if needed.

PM sent.
15  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Mt Gox coming back from the dead??? on: February 05, 2014, 03:46:56 PM
Nope. Attempted a .09BTC withdrawal yesterday, nothing extraordinary...  Never hit the network, in some abyss some where.  No answer from support, looks like I got Gox'd.
16  Economy / Services / Looking to Hire: Programmer/Dev on: February 05, 2014, 03:42:00 PM
Coinchex is an ATM and cypto services platform.  We are currently in the midst of fundraising and are placing ATM's in Boston and the surrounding area. Our business is growing rapidly and our team needs to grow as well.  If you are a self driven programmer interested in ATM's, a bill pay service, and other services for crytpo then read on.

Key Technologies / Skills:
You don’t need them all but more is better, and as this is a quickly emerging space, being a fast and effective learner is key above all.
-Versed web developer/linux admin
-Apache HTTP, MySQL, SSH, Python, Web harvesting
-CSS / HTML / Javascript / PHP / Any CMS
-Familiar with working with a CRM / Database integration for customer information
-Familiarity working with shopping carts, web APIs, and payment gateways
-Bitcoin familiarity--and perhaps altcoins (at least having got a working MPOS/eloi pool, money trading, pool, or mining related services, etc.)

We can discuss compensation, we would be willing to consider a contractual agreement for services but would prefer a long standing growth and equity opportunity within the organization.  Please PM if you are interested.

*Our website, coinchex.com, is currently underdevelopment. We are also the cofounders of coinshovel.com, an institutional mine being groomed for a public mutual mine launch at the end of Q2 2014.*
17  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: ○ Marscoin [MRS] Colonizing Mars! on: February 05, 2014, 03:28:07 PM
Disclosure: I'm a fan of this coin.

What I like about MarsCoin is what it represents. This is a future use case for alt currencies.  Supporting causes by voting with your dollar (or coins) is exactly what the future of cyrptocurrency will reflect.  If you do believe in this concept, and further believe in Mars, take a stab at this one.
18  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Bitcoin: Revolution Or Trap? on: February 05, 2014, 03:18:29 PM
Money should be used as a pricing mechanism for goods and services.  That's really the only purpose it should serve, it allows economies of scale to function by creating a single fungible unit of exchange that has value to anyone who receives of sends it.

The concepts of M1 money supply, quantitative easing, controlling interest rates, are all functions of big government and politics.  The adoption of BTC is a complete shift from these policies, I am surprised all the time that government has not intervened quicker.
19  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: February 05, 2014, 03:14:11 PM
I'm concerned that the company has all this hashing power in their data center to give out.  They just promised to offer hashing power of their 28nm equipment to all preorder customers.  Call it 3600 units at 3th/s each, or 10,800 th/s or mining power.

Originally, KnC's company mission was to only mine with 5% of what they produced for their customers.  That would mean that the company, after selling about 7,000th/s of mining power in 28nm chips, should have only about 5% or 350th/s on site in their data center....

Even if you assume the company delivered the entire network in hashing power, 18,000 th/s at 5% is only 900th/s on site at their data center.  How does a company that promised to only have 5% of their customer's orders hashing for themselves, have the equivalent of 10,800th/s mining in their data center to give out to customers....
20  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2014-02-04] KnCMiner Updates Customers on Future Plans on: February 05, 2014, 03:00:59 PM
My biggest problem with this update is that KnC still gives no expected time to completion for Neptunes! What about Plan B???  When I purchased my first neptune it was estimated for Q1 or Q2.... That's a pretty wide time frame.
