YOU BEAT ME TO THE BLOCK.

FYI I donated .00052 bitcoin to that last block to consolidate my wallet!  Was the last thing i wanted to do, and Ironically, was found by my last used mining pool!

its is so much quieter around the house now...

haha  hopefully, I left them configured for my account here..  Maybe he will plug them in and run them and forget to change the config?  hmm likely not...

Just curious, How many miners did you sell?  Were they S7's or S9's?

6 x S9's  I had 7 before, but sold one back in February for alot more.

Guys,

A real sad day for me.  I've had to switch 5 of my Avalon 741s off, BTC price drop puts the 741s in negative territory until a price pickup.  Still got the 841s mining on Kano  Grin

this makes no sense... unless you were to keep it off permanently?

If you continue to mine, you will get BTC, even if value is lower that expenses, the increase in BTC value will increase all of what you had even what you mined at a supposed loss becuase your calculation was done for the " moment" when BTC value was down.

The only thing you do by doing this temporary shut down is not make any bitcoin, and when you start back up again, you had that much lost time mining...... while difficulty went up.

so unless you plan on keeping them off permanently, there is no point to wait until BTC value goes back up.

FYI  S7 profitability according to nicehash calculator is also about  -$5.00 per month now too.

just hope that sales drop to nothing and miners start burning out.  :-)  difficulty will go down.

<snip>
My Mining days are over.....  All equipment is sold

Aww man!!! Who's gonna ask for a Pool Restart when we get a ~300% Block??? Ha!!! Goodluck!!!

Funny you remembered that.. but if you look back since the last time I asked for that, there has been some sort of issue where a restart was done, then right after that a bunch of blocks that were sub-100% were found right after that...  so....  there may be something :-)

My Mining days are over.....  All equipment is sold.  TH/s = 0.0

Guy who bought it will probably put the stuff on kano too.

Been fun.  Less work for me now...

I see we found another block and i didnt even have to do anything for it!
Sorry to hear Gopher, best of luck to you.
Wow. Same here. Hope you came out on top!

Here I am about to use my rewards to buy a 741, and you're callin' it quits... Weird.
about 2000 cnd on the positive side.

5 months, huge electrical bill, and only 1.138 bitcoin.  This value at 11000 cnd (for the BTC) is included with the profit of 2000 cnd after if I sell it.
for most of the miners I paid the Pre Dec 19 price of 1530 USD plus PSU and shipping.  So when all i said and done, my 2 to 2.5 month break even point was long lost since I am over 5 months now.

I traded a A3 for two S9's,  so I paid for 5 S9's, 1 A3 that I traded for 2 S9's one of which I sold for 3700 cnd a couple months ago, the other I sold 1 week ago for 1400 cnd.  I also had a L3 that i finally got shipped in march, and sold it within a week for 175 cnd less than I paid for it. 1 week later bitmain dropped the price of the L3 to 550USD.  Good call on my part.

Now the S9i are for sale pretty cheap and no real long wait.   I gave away a 350 USD coupon to someone here, but if I kept it, I could of got a S9i 14TH for 500USD, but the profitability I figured that even at that it would be over 1 month ROI, **IF** the equation was flat, ie no rate of decay on mining profitability.  the rate will not be as bad as Dec-Feb, but it will still be there.  As with bitcoin, its anyones guess.

If I sell my S9's at 1400 cnd, and my BTC income right now is 230 worth per month less about 90-100 for electricity is 140 per month.  1400/140 = 10 months IF bitcoin rate of return stayed flat, and value stays same.

10 month, will be totally different, especially if a new miner is released.
Even if BTC Value doubled, the 5 months return is still too long given the current state of mining difficulty.

So the easy way is sell equipment, buy the BTC and get to the same result later regardless of what time perspective you want to look at, and also enjoy the peace and quiet and not have to listen to them noise makers.

I am just glad that I didnt pay the high rates that some people did for S9's like 2200 USD and up.   So if my outcome yeilds me 2000 cnd profit after 5 months and I paid 1535 USD for my miners, except one at 3400 USD ( the first one)  I cannot see how that could come to a break even point any time soon.

So basically, it comes down to my personal time and how much I was making for the amount of time involved, setting up fans, cleaning them out, and all the other stuff It took to run them.  Yes, it is very little, but to become consumed into it can become overwhelming.  So if i was upside down on this equation more, then it would be worse.

The next time there is a hype of bitcoin, I will do things different, well, one of two things.......

Buy and resell equipment, not use it.
or...... just stay away from it all.

If you dont believe me....  why would a company that does mining ( Bitmain ) also sell equipment that makes the mining harder for themselves to do?  Becuase they make more money selling equipment.  They have too big of market share and can easily manipulate it by using bitcoin cash as a only payment type requirement, then that forces the price of it up when many people buy it, when its higher, they sell it.

Research litecoin cash, its sha256 algo that had questionable beginning.  Why is it a sha 256 algo?  to pull miners away from BTC and BCH to lower the difficulty?

In the stock market, these actions would be considered Insider Trading, and there are laws to protect people from that.

So I know I will get flak about this post, and thats ok, I know people will say that its a long term investment for mining.  I agree, but it is too long, at least for me.  What do you think is a reasonable amount of time?

I have coupons of 100 USD value for anyone who wants them.  They were all extended expire date to the end of June.
I have 13 of them.  1 per miner is what they allow.

all devices failed over to a non kano pool just now....

pool 0 and pool 1 are stratum and nya,  both were not accessible for a very short time.
seen this on awesome miner where all devices failed over to my pool 2

should I be worried about the " FAILED"   ?  This particular S9 has one hash board stop working, a reboot fixes it for hours, or even a day, then sometimes  goes back to one board not hashing.... been in operation since Nov 21 2017

chain[5]: All chip cores are opened OK!
Test Patten on chain[5]: FAILED!
chain[6]: All chip cores are opened OK!
Test Patten on chain[6]: FAILED!
chain[7]: All chip cores are opened OK!
Test Patten on chain[7]: OK!

I check my S9s 2-3 times a day.  I have several that lose a hashcard which a reboot fixes - for awhile.  Yes, its defective.  No, its not worth sending back to Bitmain.

If anyone interested.. I shut down the miner in question, blew out the dust with a compressor.  Now the test log shows...

chain[5]: All chip cores are opened OK!
Test Patten on chain[5]: OK!
chain[6]: All chip cores are opened OK!
Test Patten on chain[6]: OK!
chain[7]: All chip cores are opened OK!
Test Patten on chain[7]: OK!

Seems to be working fine now.  even the hash rate went up it the 14.2 that it used to be at, rather than the 14.08 while it was having the problem.

Hopefully.
Actually I even switched power supplies. after I cleaned the S9..hmmmm. maybe bad power supply.

You beat me by 6 seconds posting!

And in 4 minutes, 3 blocks have been found by others!  wow.

Interesting,  our block we found was right after BTC mined an empty block...

When should I mention restart again?  :-)

Hmm  web server showing all 0's again...  and no data...  Sad

Any suggestion about random events causing blocks is actually caused by faulty memory Smiley
It's called 'Confirmation Bias' https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Confirmation_bias or in the more severe cases Cognitive Bias https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cognitive_bias

It's typical to remember outstanding events and not notice the rest.
Eureka! I've figured it out!

It's not the restarts that result in a new block, it's talking about the restart! In every case where there was a restart that seemingly resulted in a new block, it was also talked about... Including when we didn't actually do a restart but only talked about it...

You are welcome... I guess... haha

And I now have just over 1 bitcoin with that last reward....  its about half of what I expected, in 3 times the length to get to this point from what I calculated back in early December...  Boy was I wrong...  and someone sold a bunch of S9's that I wasn't expecting...
16  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [145+PH] KanoPool kano.is 7 BTC giveaway 🐈 US,UK,JP,NYA,DE,SG on: May 08, 2018, 05:56:35 AM
so, lets prove me wrong, re-start the pool and lets see what happens! :-)

Do you want to say that Kano is not interested in finding blocks by his pool? where is the logic?  Shocked
Indeed - I only restart the pool when it needs to be.
Due to: resource issues, changes, or it restarts itself if it crashes.

Restarting KDB has no effect at all on your work/block finding data unless it cascades into a pool restart also
(which is rare but not 'never')

Yes indeed it is fun to think that restarts are helpful, but when it degenerates in to comments about code problems ... well ... OK ... fun gone Tongue

I am not doubting your ability's at all.  In fact I know you know what you are doing.  I just made a comment that it has happened a few times that these long spells have been fixed after a pool restart.  Yes, I may notice that moreso than when there was no restart.

I understand the miners do the work, but the work is issued to them by the pool.  If the work issued or the returned work is not generated properly, or logged properly, or some small thing is happening that is not noticed which yields bad work from miners, or not even that, just missed or mis-handled work of a miner.  Maybe it happens, maybe there is some set of circumstances that occur that is not "visible"

Look at it this way...  and I know this has happened to me with other stuff.  You write your code, you have gone through it more often than you can remember.  If your looking at it and expecting it to be correct, you might gloss over something.  I do not mean any disrespect by any means.   I have had people look over stuff I have done, and seen something, and its like.. oh yeah... opps.  If there was an issue, i am sure you will find it, or have found other things as you have mentioned.  Maybe the issue is not even with code, it could be something else.  Bad transactions that are put into a block that effect the results, but hard to know which transactions are bad.  And when I say bad, I do not mean one without proper funds, I mean with some other thing someone discovered that can corrupt data etc...

A good example is... remember when android phones could be hacked by just sending it an a particular SMS message.  No one thought that would ever be the case, but somebody found out how to do it.

At the end of the day, Bitcoin has had alot of people doing alot of bad things to gain the advantage.

So, if I might be noticing these events, lets start a log....  well, actually you probably have a log of re-starts..  look back and find the dates and see if just preceeding it there was low block finds, and then more blocks found just after.  maybe there is another event that happens that causes it, if it is even there.  Maybe there is a set of circumstances that make it happen that isn't discovered yet.

Again, I am not trying to be disrespectful, I know that you are perfect if your work and knowledge.  you understand the inner workings alot better than any of us.  I am just saying it might be worth looking at it from a different angle. ( Again, not code related, but a set of circumstances, internal or external.  Maybe a bad miner like the one you had sending invalid shares for over 2 months that you found. You said that it didnt send one valid share for that 2 or 2+ months, and that it doesnt affect the pool.  So if someone had knowledge to modify miner code to make it send back all invalids, they probably know that this would not harm the pool.  So why are they doing it?  There has to be more to that one. )

I vote for a pool re-start.
And what pray tell would you expect that to accomplish?  Besides causing all of us to fail over to our backup pools that is?
Lol. Some superstition that's been floating around for a while that it brings a block. Hehe

P.S. New sig: Kano Pool Blocks... No restart required. Wink

If you look back in history.  Everytime there has been long blocks, and then a "restart" for one reason or another there has been a block found very shortly after, and the near 100 % will continue for a while.

I have seen this numerous times since December that this happens almost like clock work.

YES, saying that it does nothing, becuase of probability, can be an accurate statement, but when this happens too often, there is more to this than just probability.

I dont remember the date, but a while ago, Kano said he needed to do a pool restart due to a logging issue, and then the double restart cuased another issue, and he found why in the code this issue happened.  after that, blocks were normal again, near 100 %  but prior to that there were long blocks.. like now.

Persoanlly, I think there is an issue in some detail yet to be discovered, that after the pool runs for an extended period of time, or so many shares, blocks are not found as near 100% as they should. ( when you use "probability" alone )

Right that’s it, chicken sacrifice needed. Dancing shoes are on and going to keep going to my feet bleed

MINE ON PEOPLE

Okay, I sacrificed the biggest damn chicken I could find!  That should work! Cheesy

This does NOT look like a sacrifice...  This looks like molestation!  But hey... if it gets a block...   uhhh.. yeah.. i'll leave that one alone.
