1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][FAIR] FairCoop launch Donations rush 100000 FAIR to 100 first collectives on: April 23, 2015, 01:43:35 PM
Got home from the dentist last week still dizzy from the valium, spilled water all over my macbook, was certain i had backed up all my wallets. Had not. 26000 faircoin gone with  the wind, or rather water. Sad(

Luckily I had managed to write down my bitcoin seed at least, so theres some solace. But not the ending to a four hour operation I was hoping for.

Great to see the activity has gone up greatly though!

Thats terrible. but cant you recover from the hard disk.. I am sure you must have tried though

I havent taken it to the apple store yet, its a retina mac where everything is solded to the motherboard. So Im not getting my hopes up. The stinger is that I was going to turn it in for a new one for free because of screen defect. Now I will have to pay for my stupitiy if I want it working again. :/

I have a couple of people who have inspired the way I see the world.

Peter Kropotkin
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Kropotkin

Recommended read: http://libcom.org/library/the-conquest-of-bread-peter-kropotkin

George Orwell
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Orwell

Recommended read: http://gutenberg.net.au/ebooks02/0201111.txt

And in newer times what Enric Durant did in Spain I find truly inspiring:

Took up upwards of 60 loans from 30 different banks in spain totalling 492 000 euros, gave it all away to anticapitalist organizations so that they could grow and is now on the run from the law, some of the projects can be seen here:

https://calafou.org/en <-- Occupied permaculture/hacklab outside of Barcelona, this is where Amir Taaki has been working from lately(darkwallet, etc).
http://cooperativa.cat/en/ <-- a cooperative of cooperatives building a seperate economy/society based on anarchist principles of mutual aid and voluntary participation.

IŽd rather be on the Bitcoin side of that showdown that on the fascist imperialist side.

Its so surreal. So so surreal. But fucking amazing! Another milestone down! To infinity and BEYOND!
7  Other / Off-topic / arkOS - Decentralized hosting sollution (RPi) on: November 21, 2013, 10:37:28 AM
I came across this project a while ago, its still in the early stages, but it runs. It has OwnCloud, Wordpress, etc build into a forked Genesis interface, running on Arch Linux on a RPi (more devices to come).

the plan is to build in several more plugins for genesis, secure mail server, cjdns built in, etc, etc. (Basically all RPi apps can be built into genesis as far as I understand it)

He is running a fundraising campaign now. 10% left with 13 days to go.

Thought someone here might be interested in the project so heres the link:

http://arkos.io/

Quotation from the site:

arkOS is an open-source platform for securely self-hosting your online life. It is designed to help its users take control of their personal data, and to make running a server as easy as using a desktop computer.
8  Economy / Securities / Re: Cloudhashing ASIC mining contracts, UK LTD company - Now Mining & Paying Bitcoin on: November 17, 2013, 11:09:09 AM
I could have paid with google wallet at the time, but did not think it through at all. :/ My mistake.

What annoys me beyond reach now is that they wont even answer my email. I sent one were I gave them some days(its weekend) to refund me or I will go to small claims court.

Edit: I would actually rather spend more money on legal help than to see them get away with money while acting like dicks.
9  Economy / Securities / Re: Cloudhashing ASIC mining contracts, UK LTD company - Now Mining & Paying Bitcoin on: November 16, 2013, 02:41:23 PM
I paid in bitcoin and their not replying on my emails anymore..

If it wasnt a scam at start, its turning into one now.
10  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [LEAKED] Private Bitcoin Foundation Discussions On Blacklisting, more (ZIP dump) on: November 15, 2013, 10:09:40 PM
I cannot formulate the words to adequately express my anger about this. I consider Bitcoin to be revolutionary. It could completely free people from the failing fiat system. It could completely free the people from the restrictions of credit card payments. It combines the best qualities of cash and plastic, AND it's impossible to steal (assuming the proper precautions are taken). And now, as with everything great that's happened since 1920, the US government and some multinational corporations have to find some way to stomp it to the ground for a few kickbacks and maybe a few years in office.

If I could find a person who knowingly allowed this to happen, and I were in the same room as him with a gun in my hand, I would have a very difficult time not pulling the trigger.

Some people might argue that "compromise is the only way to keep Bitcoin legal". If Bitcoin becomes popular enough, this may be true. I say, why gives a fuck? I believe morality overrides legality 100% of the time. I believe that in the modern world, which revolves around the Internet, free software (especially free software infrastructures such as Bitcoin) is the greatest tool we have against authoritarianism. I believe that freedom from governmental and corporate control is a human right. Therefore, I believe that as long as Bitcoin has even a small number of users, it is my moral duty to do my best to keep the Bitcoin ecosystem alive, regardless of the consequences. If everyone shared this same philosophy, Bitcoin would be literally unstoppable.

1. Reject all closed source Bitcoin software, including web wallets, and, God forbid it comes to this, the official client.
2. Reject all Bitcoin software that contradicts Satoshi's paper. This paper is the Constitution of Bitcoin. This includes any software which blacklists addresses, reverses transactions, or has ANY central point of failure, especially a central authority. The difference between Bitcoin and Paypal is that Bitcion is decentralized.
3. Governments exist to catch proverbial murderers. They do not exist to prevent the purchase of proverbial weapons. No matter what governments say, control of currency (Bitcoin or otherwise) does nothing but control innocent people.
4. Corporations exist to serve customers. They do not exist to control customers. Boycott companies that place any restrictions other than the price of their goods or services.

Free as in Freedom!
11  Economy / Speculation / Re: Will You Sell when BTC Hits $1,000? on: November 14, 2013, 08:43:09 PM
Some maybe, I dont see a reason to sell a big portion of possibly the coming world currency.
12  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Time to Boycott all US Companies on: November 14, 2013, 12:40:52 PM
No opinion on the validity of the news, but I would not put something like this past governments, especially post NSA. And appealing to peoples greed, is definitely nothing new.

If this was implemented though. Would it only apply to US merchants?
13  Economy / Speculation / Re: S-Curve Adoption Rate on: November 13, 2013, 06:35:35 PM
Makes sense, we are still at the make or break stadia, however make looks more and more likely every day. As long as adoption continues and nothing huge intervenes, theres no reason why bitcoin wont follow the same curve.
14  Economy / Securities / Re: Cloudhashing ASIC mining contracts, UK LTD company - Now Mining & Paying Bitcoin on: November 12, 2013, 02:37:27 PM
I am doing very well also  Grin

Really Huh? How much did you pay for your contract when Huh?? How much have you made.

I know ManicMeddler is doing well as he blagged his contract for about $5. But paying the full price there is no way the contract could ever make back the BTC you could have bought instead.

What you just said.

Which I guess we(who bought the contracts) should have figured out ourself. However, as a relative beginner to all this when I bought the contract. Their advertisement was extremely misleading.

Edit: And coincidentally that was their target group as well, the bitcoin beginners.

17  Economy / Securities / Re: Cloudhashing ASIC mining contracts, UK LTD company - Now Mining & Paying Bitcoin on: November 10, 2013, 03:14:34 PM
I have had complete radio silence from CH for close to a week now. Sent several mails after a long round about refunds.
18  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: November 08, 2013, 07:08:56 PM
There would be no point to this whole experiment if not to change the world for the better! SeansOutpost is really showing the way  forward for the bitcoin community!
19  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2013-11-06 Yahoo Finance : Video commentary on current rally ($15m into BIT) on: November 08, 2013, 11:55:52 AM
For some reason I suspect the steady 1btc per 8 seconds buying bot might be connected to this. It might be how the trust maintains parity as investment comes in.

I can tell you with some confidence that the traders for Secondmarket's Bitcoin Investment Trust don't buy on the exchanges.  That isn't to say they don't impact the price on the exchanges.

I am very interested to know what other mechanisms exist to purchase bitcoins, the only ones I know of are:

- Exchanges
- Coinbase
- BTC ATMs
- In-person cash sales

In person cash sales & ATMs are not going to provide the $millions in volume needed and coinbase has daily limits and uses exchanges in the back end anyway.

So... Where else can BIT purchase?

There are businesses, miners, and other individuals who hold relatively large sums of bitcoins and Secondmarket seeks them out and builds relationships with them.

Well, that doesnt sound very democratic and fair does it?
20  Economy / Securities / Re: Cloudhashing ASIC mining contracts, UK LTD company - Now Mining & Paying Bitcoin on: November 07, 2013, 12:50:46 AM
What is my best course of action here? I paid with bitcoin /bitpay, non UK citizen. Had complete radio silence for some days now.
