1  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Warning! Do not use Coinbase.com Scam Artists! on: December 09, 2013, 11:27:44 PM
I have just posted in another thread about the same company. It always seemed that they were reputable and a fairly stable company. Am I wrong?

It seems like they're in over their heads and some people are getting screwed over, some aren't. If you're one of the lucky ones, sure, they're great, but it might be just a matter of time before you become one of the unlucky ones. I was singing Coinbase's praises to everyone in the beginning; now I'm warning people to avoid them or tread lightly.

Now that bitcoin has had little bit of a drop can anyone confirm an instance where they tried to purchase bitcoins at approx $1200 and where saved from the the large drop because their account was deemed too 'high risk'

I really smell a lawsuit here.

Coinbase has possibly made hundreds of millions of dollars by what is essentially risk free gambling with our money.

If you email them you can easily buy at the price you intended to.

I keep hearing this, but I'm starting to wonder if it's just PR by plants and employees. I've been trying to get my situation resolved for over 4 weeks now, but I've only gotten a couple of boilerplate responses from support that fail to address my situation or tell me whether or not they can push through my canceled orders at the original exchange rate. Maybe it just takes three months to get stuff resolved over there now, but I sure as hell wish they'd send me a note saying, "We're sorry, we're in over our heads right now, but we'll probably get to you in three months or hope that you just stop emailing us and forget about it."

Something, anything. Seriously.

is buying dvds at all ever a good investment?

Criterions tend to hold their resale value pretty well.

And if they go out of print, lookout! You can get $300 for an OOP Criterion DVD or Blu-ray you paid $30 for.
8  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Can you guys help me get Olaf's (Coinbase) attention? :/ on: November 25, 2013, 10:43:14 PM
I have to add here that my problem was resolved with complete satisfaction on my part (other than it took a while). I got on #coinbase on freenode.net and was able to find someone to help.

I'm happy your problem was resolved.  Smiley

Would you please share who helped you or what you did to get their attention? I haven't succeeded in getting any help yet.

I'm sorry you had to learn about Coinbase the hard way.

A lot of here have had the same thing happen and Coinbase support is no help.  Sad

I used to recommend Coinbase to everyone; now I warn everyone about Coinbase.

Olaf from Coinbase here. I'm sorry for the trouble you all have been experiencing! Email support and let us know you want these transactions pushed through - we manually review cancellations upon request. Thanks for your patience with this.

I've been requesting that support do this in my situation, but support has ignored it and sent me a boilerplate response that I've seen on Reddit, suggesting that they didn't even read my email. And that was after waiting a whole week for a response. So I politely emailed again and received another boilerplate response after about a week, once again suggesting that Rees didn't even read my email.

I used to be the biggest Coinbase supporter. Help us here. Olaf, if you are honest, please help us.

What do we have to do to get our situations resolved?  Sad

What the hell? Olaf is still telling people this today...

I've done this and Coinbase keeps ignoring me. I'm a Level-2, fully verified member, made several buys in the past, and yet support ignores me.  Sad

Is Olaf lying for PR purposes or does it just take over a month to hear anything or to get resolved?

Are you considering to start a Class action lawsuit against them?

Definitely considering if my situation is not rectified very soon. My friend is also a journalist who's writing a book and some upcoming articles on bitcoin and he's very aware of just how dire the Coinbase situation is (he's experienced canceled orders, holding his money, support ignoring him as well). I told him if he mentioned who he was, I bet they would actually pay attention to him and rectify his situation, but alas... Coinbase may have some very unfavorable and widely read press coming their way soon. Part of me still hopes they can turn it around and make things right for all those they've screwed, but I'm not sure if it's possible at this point.
12  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Can you guys help me get Olaf's (Coinbase) attention? :/ on: November 22, 2013, 09:26:24 PM
Dude, I wish. Olaf still won't respond to me either and I've gone the conservative route, only messaging him here three times (not more than once per week) and messaging support three or four times (again, only about once per week). My thinking was that over-messaging might actually piss them off and they'd be more reluctant to respond, but I guess they're really not responding to anyone who they've royally screwed over now.

Outside of one boilerplate response from support (Rees), I've heard nothing and they've done nothing to resolve my situation.

I've gone from recommending Coinbase to everyone to warning everyone not to do business with them.

I'll let you know if I hear anything, but I've pretty much lost all hope at this point.
13  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Just purchased tiny fraction BTC for first time; now what? on: November 21, 2013, 12:12:45 AM
Just wait a few minutes and it should confirm automatically. Don't worry. Smiley

EDIT: I had one transaction that took almost an hour to confirm, but most only took about 10 minutes.
14  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Just purchased tiny fraction BTC for first time; now what? on: November 21, 2013, 12:08:17 AM
It's quite simple. Send the BTC in your localbitcoins wallet to your blockchain wallet address.

You may have given the seller your blockchain wallet address, but the seller wouldn't have sent it there. Once the bitcoins are released from escrow, they're sent to your localbitcoins wallet automatically. So just send those over to your blockchain wallet. Easy.

Go to https://localbitcoins.com/accounts/wallet/ and enter your blockchain wallet address and the amount you want to send to your blockchain wallet. Hope that helps. Smiley

I like Multibit, but I've also heard good things about Electrum and blockchain.info (if you're open to Web wallets).

17  Economy / Speculation / Re: Call the Bottom on: November 20, 2013, 05:51:43 AM
I don't think it'll go lower than $400.

But I actually hope it goes to $300 so I can re-buy the 3.5 BTC I panic-sold at that price a couple weeks ago.  Grin
18  Economy / Speculation / Re: Now that $1000 is behind us. Let's talk about $10,000 on: November 19, 2013, 10:51:48 PM
10 000+ prices will be reality sooner than expected mostly due to the bubble that we are about to enter once we reach 1000+ prices. The price will rise to 17 000$ per BTC and will then drop down to 3000$. At least this is what I saw in my dream last night. It makes me confident that the current rally will continue for quite some time.

Well that certainly settles it for me.

Same here. Hyena's dream is the sign I've been waiting for. Happy we know now.  Grin

Does anyone know what name Coinbase uses when they place the charge against your checking account?

My statement says:

COINBASE.COM/BTC 8003435845
