1  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: Just got off the phone with Bitmain re next batch of S9 on: January 30, 2018, 04:24:20 PM
Thank you VERY much for the time and effort you've put in on this Nemo - it is greatly appreciated. I'm on the list for 5, but was able to pick up 5 S9's for the March batch a little while back. I'll still remain on the list as you may be able to secure better pricing than buying direct retail from Bitmain in small batches.

I hope I'm wrong, but it seems like this project has flat lined.

With BM releasing another round of S9's prior to the new A3's, you'd think they could have given nemo a solid confirmation by now.

As for the hurricane water, do you prefer some water for $10 or no water but priced 10 times cheaper?

You'd fit right in  Grin

I think it comes down to risk tolerance. You can invest in mining equipment and feel some level of comfort knowing YOU hold and control your BTC.

Whereas with trading, you're dependent so much on the company behind the coin (altcoins). Or in some cases, an exchange locking up registrations, withdrawals, etc.

I like to control the money so, to me anyway, mining is the more comfortable way to go. Profitable? Maybe, maybe not. But I like to sleep good at night Smiley

What is the minimum Bitmain considers a bulk buy? 500 units? 100? Just wondering if it can be done on a smaller scale so not so overwhelming for the buyer/shipper. Over-demand could be handled by a lottery type draw so as not to give favorable treatment to small or large buyers.

Truth be told, many of these will end up on eBay which is fine - profit is profit. But it would be great if those of us who actually want to put these to work at Dustin's or any other host, could get together. I won't lie - I've been tempted to flip some, but I feel (personally) that the prices are just flat out painful on eBay. Reminds me of when we get a hurricane here and people price gouge on generators, fuel, water, etc.... fine if you're selling, but sucks when you're buying!

Nemo, why would you not make it first come, first served?

Because it doesn't make sense for logistics  reasons. Handling big orders means less payments, less shippings and less headaches overall. Not fair to early birds but fair to Nimo. I understand that.

The best solution would be that all the small guys get together and pay an escrow as a man-in-the-middle for this group-buy so Nimo will treat it like one big order and then the escrow will handle the shipping to buyers.

I'm trying to remember the last (no profit to the OP) actual escrow group buy that worked....I think it was 1 year ago (longsnowsm?)

the others either fell thru, or the OP got a windfall in a free unit or two....

afraid, them days are gone

I've asked a few folk making various flavors of Asics....and got no place...such group buys may have gone the way of the dodo Sad

7  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: Gauging US interest in s9 Jan 11-21 batch on: January 14, 2018, 06:04:34 AM

My newbie status limits me to 2 a day as well. Thank you for the offer but I can't go to that price. It's a fantastic price for sure compared to eBay, but I'll just test my patience a little longer with Bitmain and try to grab more on their next release. I have two coming late Feb and two late March but trying to hoard up as many as I can on a budget.

Thanks again!

My rank does not allow me to PM you directly, so I can just reply here.  Wilmington is just a few hours from me, so it would be a very convenient deal..  But I have to stick to the 4500 best offer.  If you want to do 9k for two just PM me.
8  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: Gauging US interest in s9 Jan 11-21 batch on: January 14, 2018, 12:20:25 AM

It's a shot in the dark, but I'm in NC (Wilmington area) and can offer $3500 each for all three. I'll forward you my ID and we can use escrow (here or on a trusted escrow site).

Message me for my email address if you're game for a simple, local southeastern'er (but for a bargain!)
9  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [WTS] (EU-FR) Antminer S9 13.5TH & PSU (december batch) on: January 14, 2018, 12:06:47 AM
I'll offer $3000 USD in BCH (faster, lower fees than BTC) and would definitely want to use the services of an escrow provider on here. Shipping to the USA.

I've been exchanging emails and a couple of calls with Dustin at RektMining, and can say that he's very professional, and pricing is fair.

I completed the registration forms today and emailed back to him. I'll be sending 2 miners, then (hopefully) 4 more if there's room in February, and 4 in March (again, if room).

Mine are pre-configured, so hopefully it'll just be a plug and play, simple setup for them and be online pretty quickly.

More to come, but so far, I do like Dustin and the professionalism I've seen.

If anybody wants to send me a lead to an escrow that deals with international trade, your help will be highly appreciated.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=855778.0

It may be too large of an amount, but there are several highly trusted members on this forum who provide escrow. Typically on a miner or two between forum buyer and seller - so 800 may exceed their comfort range..... but may be worth an ask.

I just signed up for 4 with shipping to NC, USA.

Escrow payment via BTC or BCH, I assume?

Thank you for this!
14  Economy / Service Discussion / Looking for a colo host for small group of Antminer S9 on: January 07, 2018, 11:45:26 AM

Hello -

I'm in search of a host for 6 Antminer S9's now, and 14 additional by spring/summer, with monthly growth as room allows.

  • I'd prefer southeast USA (nothing international, please) and I MUST be able to visit your facility in person first. please message me with your city and state, and your all-in (or breakdown of) rates.
  • 208/240 VAC preferred (no 120v, please). Redundant power preferred but not a must.

Like many of you, I've spent the past 3 weeks on the phone and via email with no less than 20 hosts, data centers and "others".

18 were full, most of them expanding but no space until later in the year. And 2 I just didn't trust for one reason or another.

I'm just about to the point of building my own small facility here in NC. I've been kicking the idea around for months. Anyone else in the southeast interested in discussing this, message me. If there's a vetting process to build trust within the Bitcointalk community, please message me.

I'm new on the forum but not to telecom. beginning in 2000, I built switches for wireless and long distance carriers for several years, employed by Nortel Networks, then TEK Systems. from 2003 to 2005 I managed new switch builds for a major wireless carrier. They then hired me on board in 2005 and I've been a network engineer for them since.

Thanks, in advance, for any responses and recommendations.

It's possible they were referring to purchasing hashing power when they used the term cloud mining. But if they were actually talking about these investment schemes, then they are NOT financial advisors - so beware.

Personally, I fell head first into the "bitcoin investment" scheme. I ended up in four of them. I've broke even, but now that I know better, it was not a wise decision to join them. I'm not saying every single one of them are ponzi schemes, but I can say most are. The minute new money coming in slows down, they'll (and many have) close the doors.

I have since focused my time learning about ICO's, and in mining. I like to control the money (call me paranoid) so mining is my favorite.

If I were advising my own mom on what to do, I'd suggest either a diversified portfolio of coins, or buy/build your own mining rigs and scale that operation.

Ive met some group of financial adviser, they told me that the best way to aquire bitcoin is through cloud mining, they gave me names of trusted cloud mining providers and as of my research, they are well known and trusted.
Then ive met some people, whos already earning big bucks on bitcoin, they dont recommend cloud mining. They told me that its expensive and risky, but as for my understanding its good way of gaining passive income.
What are the possible reason on thier contradiction?
Whos recommendation should i try and why?
16  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: I HAVE 50.000 dollars to invest, help please! on: January 07, 2018, 10:27:05 AM

As most have said already, I'd suggest a mix of investments into at least 5 different coins. Personally, I'd allocate about 10-15% to an ICO. ERC20 based (so you have control of it).

Good luck!

hi everyone?
first of all let me just say that I am a huge fan of this forum.

So where I am right now is that I have around 50 k to invest in crypto currencies.
My first thought was buying as many antminer l3+ as I could and then keep them in a hosting facility that I found.
then I thought that I should spil 50/50 between mining for litecoins and getting hardware to mine for ethereum.

I know that I am late to the game but I am still hoping that it is profitable.

I would just like to know what would you do ?

thanks for any tips!
