Bitcointalk Escrows

It seems as if there is no thread with a clear list of all the active escrows on bitcointalk that is regularly updated with relevant information.

Only members with announcements threads will be listed in their suitable category.

Have a suggestion or update? PM me or post here!

Some tips:
- The escrows in the follow list are to be used carefully.
- Always do your own research before trusting any escrow.
- The 'BIG 3' will be the most trustworthy, but at all times ensure you are talking to the right person and if possible, verify their PGP signature.

There are several different types of Bitcoin clients. The most secure are full nodes like Bitcoin Core, but full nodes are more resource-heavy, and they must do a lengthy initial syncing process. As a result, lightweight clients with somewhat less security are commonly used.
Advertised sites are not endorsed by the Bitcoin Forum. They may be unsafe, untrustworthy, or illegal in your jurisdiction.

escrow.ms's signature says that he will be out of town "starting on the 14th" and will not be able to provide escrow until after he gets back. It has actually said this for a while now and he hasn't been active on the forum as much recently (I think he has been working on a bitcoin related project), so I don't think he is actively available for escrow.

Also what criteria do you use to rank to rank escrows? It seems you are using how active they are on the forum, but wouldn't you say that their trust ratings might be more accurate?

EDIT: You also may want to see this thread for a somewhat outdated (last updated ~4 months ago) list of escrow providers.

Hi,

I have BTC and please advise me how to trade here using the escrow system here? I'm new to this forum and looking to trade with someone who can be long term. But initial stage need to have an escrow to minimize the risk

Contact an escrow provider, I would recommend devthedev (he will take you through all necessary steps)

Choose one from above, this is what the list is for. Always check their feedback and do your own research on escrows though.

Yes, as an escrow myself I would suggest to the OP to rank the escrows in some sort of trust system - it would take some work but should make the list more accurate.

I think you should have some minimum criteria and don't just ad any newcomer until they have a history of trades. I think it's a good idea to keep an updated list but only if it's kept clean with trusted agents and not filled with everyone wanting to get into the business.

That's what I intend to do.

Someone with 0 trust attached may be just as trustworthy as someone with +100 green trust. Similarly, someone with 100+ green trust can be extremely shady and not trustworthy.

I won't be ranking by public trust levels but will continually update the "big 5" with the most used, trusted and known escrows. You have been added.

But how will you rank the big five? Your opinion may be different to others on that. I think some scoring system should be put in place. Maybe you could have a handful of users who are trusted to vote or decide the criteria for inclusion.

I will rank them as I would if I was searching for an escrow provider (who has researched prior escrows). Of course everyone can let me know their thoughts and if they provide sufficient details and reasons as to why a certain escrow should be in the big 5 then I will move them.

The big 5 are the ones that are easily reachable, have done countless smooth trades and are very professional in their business.

I understand the idea that someone trusted by DefaultTrust, trusted by the public may not always be as trustworthy as claimed to be

But by making this post, you are claiming that you know who is more trustworthy better than DefaultTrust, better than the public ?

If you want to make an ordered list, use a publicly verifiable algorithm which could be critiqued like : https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=276897.0
Or, just leave it unordered, don't call your favourite escrows "the big five".

No longer active on bitcointalk, however, you can still reach me via PMs if needed.

They aren't my 'favourite escrows', but the escrows that have established themselves and proven to be trustworthy. By all means let me know their thoughts and if you provide sufficient reason as to why a certain escrow should or should not be in the big 5 then I will move them.

Nice clean updated list. The other one was a bit old and confusing, I'll recommend this if and when someone is searching for an escrow. Thanks for this.

Wow. Thanks for the confidence. Glad to be last in the list of the Big 5. Just noticed this now.
