http://chrisyeh.blogspot.ie/2017/12/bye-bye-bitcoin-bubble.html (Adventures in Capitalism: Bye Bye Bitcoin Bubble)

This article appeared yesterday where the author said he would bet any money that bitcoin would be less than $16k on Dec 2018. Its the usual fud article but the best reply he received in the comments section and the best i've seen in awhile was -

Bitcoin is not a bubble, its the Pin!

Jimmy Song offered to bet $10k already against him

People who write articles like this just set themselves up to look like total idiots in the future.  Prime example: https://www.coindesk.com/mark-t-williams-bitcoin-bulls-time-will-vindicate-prediction/

You guys were right about no Ferrari, I have decided to just cash out a smaller amount and buy something a little more reasonable.  In the end, I'm still in Bitcoin but I also get to have something to enjoy and show for it.  This has been keeping me up for days and making me feel sick.  What a fucking load off.  Now to get a vanity license plate about bitcoin  Tongue  It was nice to see chartbuddy again today.  So nostalgic.

You can still have your Ferrari.  Just not today.

Very true, for now my 1:18th scale model shall suffice  Grin

Here's a wild firstworldproblem.  I'm torn.  On one hand, I have ALWAYS wanted a Ferrari.  Here I am able to buy one, something I never thought would happen.  I could sell now, get my ferrari and be happy.  On the other hand, I could hodl, it could either go up or down.  If it goes down, I feel satisfied with my choice.  If it goes up, I will feel some regret but fuck it, I have a god damn ferrari.  I have a house and no debt, perhaps I'm just being greedy at this point and should get the one thing I've wanted and be happy with it.  Fucking wild decision I never thought I'd even have to make.

No I don't expect it but who knows? They just look like the support levels on the weekly chart. We will build some more support levels on the way up - the slower we go the better - but we all know it won't be slow.

Hopefully the newbies are learning the hodl meme.

They definitely aren't.  I'm seeing so many morons on my facebook feed who are now posting status updates about bitcoin and how "It's projected to go to $xxxxx by 2020".  These people are buying into the hype and the massive gains we're seeing right now and they get elated, dump money in and think it will forever multiply every month.  These people don't know much of anything about bitcoin/finance and when/if a correction comes they're going to panic sell and be angry that crypto fucked their savings up.  Ultimately I'm bullish but these prices have me losing sleep because if I were to cash out I could buy a nice Ferrari.  It's nice to think about but I think I'd rather go down with the rocket than miss out on it getting to the moon.  However I will get a sick evil pleasure out of seeing these uninformed noobs panicking and getting rekt in the correction.
8  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin Futures - December 10. Will it Rise or Fall? on: December 07, 2017, 11:36:51 PM
Basically they use leverage in CME for their bettings, but when buying real bitcoin, they will buy in exchanges like Bitstamp and hence they can only do what a whale would do.
Why would they need to buy real bitcoin, when contracts will be settled in fiat?

Because if they want to short the market they can artificially inflate the price by buying shitloads of it and driving the price up.  Once the price is high they can short it, dump what they bought and then do it all over again.  There's some graphic floating around that says this.  Is it true? Who knows.  Does it seem like it could happen? Perhaps.

What could a potential correction bring us to?  I think most of us agree that we're due for one but for those of us that have been here long enough, bitcoin "crashing to 10k" would sound like a pipe dream a couple years ago.
10  Other / MultiBit / Question on course of action on: December 07, 2017, 10:12:02 PM
Hello all,

I have some old coins in multibit 0.5.10.  While I have no intention of selling the coins anytime soon, I would like to have them in a wallet where if I decide to sell them I can have them on an exchange as soon as I fire up the wallet and hit send.  It seems that putting the keys into electrum via this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LaijbTcxsv8&feature=youtu.be is the way to go.

I have a couple questions about this.  My Multibit key export has two private keys listed.  If I enter them both into electrum at the same time is this okay?

Second and most important question.  If successfully import the coins into electrum and back up the private keys on electrum, will the coins be in the new private key backup?  I have read things about coins not being in the backups of wallets they are transferred to.  Here is an example of what I mean.  I import my keys into electrum and my coins are now in electrum.  If I export the private keys from electrum, will they still have the balance of my coins if I import them into a different wallet software?  Do I get new private keys when my coins are in electrum?

Third, if I just keep the coins in multibit on my old machine and keep it offline, would that be a suitable method of storage for years to come?  Meaning, if I have the compressed keys from multibit exported and in 5 years decide to sell, will I still just be able to import them into another wallet and sell them?

Sorry for the in depth question but I'm at the point where these are making me lose sleep and I would really appreciate some insight.

Also, one last thing, electrum does let you export private keys, correct?

What's everyone going to do to celebrate if it hits 10k?  I'm contemplating a drug fueled night in a hotel or just shooting off one of those little party poppers   Tongue

Also, who remembers the $1k Bitcoin party...
12  Economy / Economics / Abstract question about the "You are here image" on: September 25, 2017, 06:32:21 PM
Hey folks,

I have a bit of an interesting question for you all that I'm hoping to gain some insight in.  I'm certain that by now we are all familiar with this image:

https://i.imgur.com/FW34gwu.jpg

My question does not pertain to the highs and lows on that, "chart" but rather, the return to mean line.  Essentially what I'm wondering is whether that return to mean line is influenced by anything, or if the whole image is just a meme.  Is there some formula that effects that line or is it just random?

Thanks for any info and sorry for the random question.

I have coins in an older version of multibit.  When I export the private keys, it saves them and I can view them in a text editing software.  Am I going to be safe for whatever happens on August first?  Let's say my wallet doesn't work after August first, will I just be able to enter the private key into Electrum and still have my bitcoins?  Thanks.

Could anyone please answer this, I'm fairly certain that I'm safe because I can read my private key in plaintext but I want to be sure.

The bitcoin market has never taken money from me besides the occasional transaction fee and whatnot, so I can't even imagine what it would feel like buying a $2800 bitcoin and the price immediately going to $2000, but I'm sure that guy is in this thread somewhere.

I can remember buying coins pre-gox failure only to have them drop in value a large amount.  It didn't feel great, but now I wish I could go back in time and buy more at the same time.  At the end of the day, everyone who has ever held Bitcoin has made money.  If you bought at $2700 and are sad about losing, 1. you shouldn't have invested in a crypto at the top of a parabolic rise and expected to see immediate returns if you can't afford to lose some.  And, 2. just keep holding, no one who has held Bitcoin long term has ever lost money.

I was not around at the time and always thought Gavin only gave away his own bitcoins. Now I see someone posted that they donated 500BTC towards Gavin's faucet back then. What would be nice is if Gavin could reveal the total amount of bitcoins that they distributed to faucet users back then. It should show the Blockchain evidence, so that we can check how many of those coins have been used over the years and how many are still unused in cold storage. ^smile^

Damn, this can make some good stories, if people are just willing to share.

The day when Freebitco.in FREE ROLLS reach 1 or 2 Satoshi per hour, we will kick our ass that we did not use it more. I guess the price will be between $4000 to $5000 per bitcoin when it reach those levels. ^smile^

This is sort of possible to do.  The wallet address for the faucet is: 15VjRaDX9zpbA8LVnbrCAFzrVzN7ixHNsC

If we look on blockchain at that address: https://blockchain.info/address/15VjRaDX9zpbA8LVnbrCAFzrVzN7ixHNsC we see a total of 19,750BTC.  That is a current valuation of $47,830,550.50 and the current balance is $2.81.  Without knowing what percentage of coins (if any) Gavin kept, I think we could assume that over 19k Bitcoins were distributed to users.  Of course, some people abused it and I do remember seeing threads from Gavin with different ways to prevent people from double dipping into the faucet.
