1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: 8 gpu target ASUS Z270 / MSI Z170A GAMING PRO CARBON on: January 19, 2018, 09:25:52 AM
My last sentence was bad written, my actual config ssd and m.2 adapter should not work according to manual like 2 m.2 adapters, but is working flawless. I understand if I would replace ssd by another pcie adapter it would work.

If you have and ssd m.2 you can test if same config than me is working on your machine.

I also have an asus prime 270a, z170 and z270 are similar and is working with two m.2 adapters.

Okay well so you actually think that 2 M.2 Slots can run 2 PCIe Adapters, while also every PCIe Slot is used? In fact, this will result in 9 GPU without using any splitters.
I will give it a try but last time it did not work.
Which is the bios version you are using? Windows Fall Creator Update (latest windows?)

Thanks for you patience.

By the way, check out my Hardware Remote Mining solution, which will alow you to remotely start your rig by Hardware (pins on mainboard will be shortened for restart) from anywhere in the world with hardware hacked wifi switch. There is no such product in the internet, so i invented my own solution.
I will give it to you for 15€ which are my costs, if you give a feedback here in the forum Smiley

Best regards

I have same asus motherboard with 11 card using 2 m.2 to pcie and and pcie 4x splitter.

I have test same spliter and m2 adapters on msi gaming m7 without flaws

Last official firmware and Windows 10 on both.

MSI Z170A Gaming M7 ?!

One of the 2 m.2 adapters won't work on this board actually. There is a point in the manual which says something about the m.2 slot in combination with PCIe slot.
Furthermore the latest bios also doesnt work for me. I have to use an old one.
Please explain what exactly you did.

Best regards,

Mr.ARgful

Nothing special, manual indicates that one pcie slot is lost if you use two m2 ports but I have tested (lastest bios) and it´s false for my board.... Grin

I have tried with M.2 pcie Adapter+SSD M.2 and a gpu on indicated manual lost slot and works.

Do i get it correctly:

You tried two normal M.2 -> Pcie Adapters? What kind of adaters did you use? Pls provide a link of the adapter YOU USE, because its also about the pcie speed.
Furthermore, which PCI risers are you using? Which PCIe Spped are they?
Please see this spot in the manual, which says that :
Important
●● The M2_1 slot will only run PCIe 3.0 x2 speed when
M2_1 slot is installed with a M.2 PCIe device and
PCI_E4 slot is installed with a PCIe x1 device at the
same time.
●● Intel® RST only supports PCIe M.2 SSD with UEFI
ROM, does not support Legacy ROM.

So this might be the problem?!?!

Best regards

I make test again and works, 8 cards+SSD M2 working, I am using M.2 adapter with floppy power conector not new usb model, risers are molex model rev 003, 003s and 006, riser connected to M.2 adapter is 003.

I cant test 2 M.2 adapters because need SSD M2 to boot but this configuration should not work according to the manual

Thank you very much for you effort.
But your last sentence confirms, it is not possible to run 9 GPU (7 in pCIe Slots + 2 in M.2 Slots) and thats what i wanted to say in the beginning.
Im just able to run 1 extra GPU in M.2. To get more than 8 GPUs running, you probably need a PCIe Splitter 1 -> 3 Adapter.

5  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: 5th GPU Help on: January 18, 2018, 09:17:21 AM
Hello,

RX 470's (bios modded)
Z170A Motherboard (Gen 1 and 4g enabled)
4GB Ram
128GB SSD
Windows 10 (early version. I'm having a hell of a time upgrading to 1709. Trying again as I write this.)
Crimson 16.11.5 (pixel patched)

It mines perfectly with 4 cards. I add the 5th and its detected fine but crashes when I start the miner. No blue screen. The mining software just locks up and then the computer freezes and I need to reboot. I'm mining cryptonight and I get the same result on claymore, sgminer and xmr-stak. I can keep the 5th card in and remove a different card and it mines fine.. so I assume the card, riser and slot are fine. One time I was able to get claymore mining with all 5 but the 5th card wasn't hashing. I've tried dmem 0, a lower h value and even lowering the power limit.

Any ideas?

Thanks

You didn't specify your PSU specs, What's the PSU watts rating? ensure you have enough wattage in powering up the 5th GPU. try to increase also your Virtual mem or pagefile.

Not enough Power in PSU will result in a shut down of PSU or even total defect of PSU. This is not the problem!
The other solution is what i described one post ealier, but thanks for repeating it.

6  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / [REMOTE CONTROL] Restart Miner by hardware from anywhere in the world! on: January 18, 2018, 08:51:46 AM
Hello guys,

so here is a short explanation in which problems i ran, trying to make my miner stable and restart remotely.

You miner will freeze from time to time. Means the whole OS freezes and therefore scripts can't restart your computer.
The only way to make it restart it to reset the whole system by hardware (ON/OFF or RESTART Button on your miner).
Furthermore, you can not start or restart your miner by "WAKE ON LAN" because if it is frozen, it cant receive the "magic pakets"

Basically there is a way to bypass this, but it will probably kill your PSU or hardware after some time. I will explain it short, and then
i tell the waaaay better and more safe / professionel method.
Unsafe: get a Wifi Switch for your power plug, and plug the PSU into the remote wifi power plug. Go to your bios and change the
behavior of your board with POWER LOSS. It's something like "if return from power loss -> state: ON"
This will let your mainboard boot every time when power returns from mains. So you can remotely turn on and off your miner.
This method is not healthy for your hardware and psu as you always pretend to have a MAINS FAILURE.

Now i have developed a much better solution: Cool

With this solution, it will be possible to remotely bridge the pins on your MOBO which are responsible for ON/OFF or RESTART.
You will also get a mobile app which shows the status of everything. You can even make a schedule, you can just do everything with it!
With this method you can always restart your miner from ANYWEHERE IN THE WORLD even if it has freezed completely.
Just Press "ON" or "Restart" and the whole Rig will come back to life Smiley  Smiley Smiley Smiley
Especially when i was on holiday i lost much money because the miner stuck and couldnt restart its self.

My solution comes with 2 jumper cables, which just need to be plugged onto the pins. The jumper cables (15cm long) are mounted into the switch
which is wifi remotable and can be installed directly on your miner.

For the whole solution i'm asking for 20€, shipping world wide.
You will receive everything ready to plug in + mobile app.

There is no such product in the internet, so i had to invent my own solution. I think the price is fair - 1 day not mining is much more expensive  Wink

For any questions, just post them here!
7  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: 8 gpu target ASUS Z270 / MSI Z170A GAMING PRO CARBON on: January 18, 2018, 08:01:03 AM
i am not expert on linux systems so i decide the keep going with windows, for the MOBO i didnt update the bios rom, instead i have disable the unneccasry features like wifi, bt, onboard vga, and i have set the pci-e ver. 3.0 to 1.0. Wink

if you try miningOS (is free), there is thread on this forum you dont' need to do anything just flash os to ssd, it have web interface (then you can check system status everywhere), no linux knowledge required. 8 gpu it is better than 7 just try it Tongue

i will check it later on, thank you

Dude, you can go ahead with windows 10. I'm running 8 GPU on Z170A Gaming M7. 7 PCIe slots and 1 M.2 Slot.
No freezing no nothing. Only weird thing is, that the MOBO will stuck on every restart (Debugcode 96) so you need to hit the reset button several times
till it jumps from 96 to A2 which will boot your OS.
Im working on a remote solution which will be done over hardware. Because software resets dont work if windows freezes. And also if the MOBO stucks at restart
you cant do anything like Wake on Lan so i have a tailor made solution.

Anybody who is interested: I have a solution to bridge the Jumpers physically on the Mainboard for Start/reset remotely over wifi. (start your mainboard from anywhere in the world)
Costs will be 20€ for the module which needs to be hacked (cut away some things and solder some liines)
I will do it for you and send to your desired address guys. (20€ already ready to go)

Best wishes

Have you already solved the problem?
Try this: Explorer-> This computer-> rightclick on it->properties->advanced properties on the left-> increase the virtual memory to at least 16.000MB

I think you are having lack of resources and this will fix it.

9  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: MSI Z170A GAMING M5 - 7 GPU [SOLVED] on: January 17, 2018, 03:45:25 PM
People have been running 8 GPUs on this board for over a year.. not rocket science

Obviously not, because i spent hours to find solutions in the internet. Your post is just fictive and not true.
Tons of posts confirm, that they were not able to run 8x GPU on Z170A Gaming M7, so better inform yourself
instead of providing wrong information. Go posthunt somewhere else  Wink

For all others who run into the same messy situation and are desperately trying to find a solution,
just ask me.

I MANAGED TO RUN 8x GPU

I've been reading alot, that it is not possible to run 8x GPU with z170a chipset.
So, i have to say this is not true and i just registered here to write my experience.

I'm running 8x GPU on MSI Z170A Gaming M7. I'm using one of the M.2 Slots to get the 8th one working with an adapter

Furthermore, all the described steps are wrong in my eyes. My solution took several hours and days, because it
was just not possible to boot into windows with most tutorials (always dark grey backlit screen). Windows couldnt boot!

I'm getting some PCIe Splitters now, so i split 1 slot into 3 slots, and then i'm going to try to run 10 GPU on this board!

However, if you want me to describe my solution, just ask.
I'm @ work so i can't proof it now. My Hashrate was 228MH/s in average (using 1 rx 580, 3 rx 570 and 4 rx 480) and 1.250W from the wall.
I know consumption could be better but all cards are different so its very hard to find stable voltages and clocks.
All cards are samsung and i'm using ubermix straps. only 1 hynix card...

Tutorial on how to get 8 GPUS+ working can be requested, i'm gonna write one. Donation will be highly appreciated.

Best regards
