I have a question for the developers. How many masternodes is necessary for a stable network operation?

It could work fine without a single masternode, so long as there are at least some nodes that accept incoming connections. For the SwiftTX feature, minimum of 6 MNs are required.

I'd say the network needs a minimum of 2 honest nodes in different locations that accept incoming connections from everyone in order to be stable. BTC2 has hundreds of them.

The upgraded web wallet is now online!

You can already login with your old keys and migrate your balance to newly created web wallet addresses.

You can cancel the migration process within 48 hours after starting it. We recommend you to check the web wallet's migration timer and address once a day until the migration is complete.

Sending BTC2 with the new web wallet addresses will be possible starting tomorrow, but you can already set up and
test the optional two-factor authentication and send BTC2 to your new web wallet addresses to stake.

should have simply at the beginning actually forked the coin..as a result it likely would be a lot more successful than it is now...

Why we chose to do it as a snapshot fork instead of just copying the blockchain:
- We used a proof of stake codebase without segwit support.
- In order to prune the blockchain from a massive 147 GB to less than 1.5 GB. That original size would have severely limited masternode creation and increased staking node hardware requirements. We wouldn't have anywhere close to the 170 or so full nodes running that we have now and 0 managed masternode hosts.

To get the full bitcoin fork marketing benefits, BTC2 would have needed to launch its main net in 2017 like the early simple forks did. It just wasn't ready at that time.

Are you able to give better instructions regarding how to upgrade the wallet for Ubuntu?

"How to update the Bitcoin 2 Core Wallet?
Just download the newest .zip/tar.gz file and copy the executable files in the bin folder to replace the ones you had installed already."

When I try to start the new bitcoin2-qt I get the message: Could not display "bitcoin2-qt"
There is no application installed for "shared library" files.
Do you want to search for an application to open this file?

Turns out that a few configuration flags were not set for that version so I compiled a more widely compatible Linux 64-bit version and updated https://github.com/BITC2/bitcoin2/releases/download/2.2/bitcoin2-2.2.0-x86_64-linux-gnu.tar.gz.

So you can now download it and try again. Meanwhile, we'll test this more than just the quick test I did so far.

Unfortunately it still doesn't work.

When I check properties for the 2.1.5 files the file types are "executable (application/x-executable)"

When I check properties for the 2.2.0 files the file types are "shared library (application/x-sharedlib)"

You're right, it is because of executable hardening and Bitcoin's executables appear the same way on some Linux desktop environments. It works though if you execute it from the command line with ./bitcoin2-qt

are there any stats available about how many coins have been claimed?

specifically how many addresses with more than 1000btc2 have not claimed yet?

are there any plans to limit the claim time for wallets with more than 1000btc or to limit the amount claimable per key? i.e. if you have more than 1k btc you can only claim 1k or 500 or whatever arbitrary amount.

other bitcoin forks suffer from constant dumping and have opted for limiting the claim window and/or limiting the amounts claimable, has btc2 considered improving its pumpamentals by reducing the unclaimed supply in this or other manner?

i would assume that what im proposing would require a hardfork so it should be "easier" to do it now that its only listed on a couple exchanges. (im talking out of my ass, i have no clue about the actual difficulty or even feasibility)

it wouldnt be fair to have whales dump on us when the price gets attractive; a couple of whales can fuck up the price badly so thats why i think focusing on big wallets would be more effective than just disabling claims for everyone.

Whales are likely to have multiple addresses anyway and getting a whale on board would be far more important than getting a regular guy on board. So unlikely to differentiate between whales and others when deciding who can claim.

Earlier on this thread we talked about doing such a fork and it seemed people here welcomed it and yes, it would be easier now. We even thought of a way to do it without forced forking which would just make it harder but not impossible to claim BTC2.

It hasn't really been a priority lately because there hasn't been many claims that simply sold straight away after claiming lately. The claiming block height is over a year ago and only true hodlers are likely to remember their private keys of that time since they still have the same addresses. But a coinmarketcap listing could still let more of those people know that they have something to claim.

No actual stats have been compiled of how much has been claimed as it would take a lot of blockchain analysis by a program or human to do it but it is a minor %.

There are cons to stopping claims, such as perception about it of those that don't yet own BTC2 and keeping the supply unaffected would make our coin market cap look high and make it easier to be in the top 100 at coinmarketcap. The solution we are most likely to do would not affect this supply number. Then again Bitcoin private did a coinburn more than a month ago and yet coinmarketcap did not update their circulating supply, yet anyway.

Now compiling the version 2.1.5 for all platforms. Probably releasing it within 24 hours. zBTC2/privacy functionality will be re-enabled within a couple of days after the release of the new version.

Can reward participants for finding bugs?

While not a bad idea, they tend to be reported anyway.
Perhaps for finding bugs in the source code.

Speaking of which, someone reported that his windows staking wallet shuts down occasionally by itself like once a week. anyone else here with that problem?

Hi.
If there are 1000 BTC2. What is the average difference for today in % between runing masternode and minting?

You can get up to date answer to that at https://www.bitc2.org/#roi

I tried to install Bisq in my PC but seems that it consume lots of space during the synchronization, I think the Bisq application will download the whole bitcoin blockchain.. I begin to dislike Bisq, I thought it's a web base trading platform. By the way at least you will find a better exchange for BTC2.

Yeah, not only was Bisq a bit overly complicated to use. But also they went as far as to delist Bitcoin Cash due to their own personal bias.

The web wallet has been improved.
- It now displays the actual blockchain balance
Instead of the internally counted balance.

- Ensured that when sending something out from an account, only the mature coins of the account can be used. So if you see a clock icon next to an incoming staking reward, you will need to wait until that staking reward matures and the clock icon turns into a check mark before those coins are spendable again. But most of the time your coins will be spendable.

- We will soon be re-activating the web wallet staking fee script, and it will retroactively catch up on sending out the unpaid fees. (0.2 BTC2 per staking reward of 0.6+ BTC2).

- If a significant % of users request it, we may also make staking optional on the web wallet.

I agree that POS is a more promising technology, but I wonder why you left possibility for the POW?

POW was needed to recreate the Bitcoin balances. There was no reason to take the time to completely remove that unused code afterwards as POW cannot be used after the main net launch without forking away from the main chain and changing the code.

...when I open my MN now in AWS....

Your BTC2 for the masternode is supposed to be kept in a local wallet as per the setup guide, that means that you either set it up in an insecure manner or if your btc2 was actually in your local wallet, then the local wallet was compromised rather than the AWS one.

I see banned peers in one wallet, what does this mean?

There's various reasons why a peer could be automatically banned from being connected to you temporarily.

Perhaps your node thinks that they are doing something outside of the consensus rules, or attempt and then fail to do something too many times or are on a different chain.

Usually the ban on a peer lasts for a day. If you want to figure out the exact reason why, you could check your data folder's debug.log.

It is rare to see banned peers however so check that the current block number, or block height of that wallet is the same as in your other wallet or the block explorer.

Can it really block the addresses so the whales cannot influence the price? It seems to me when people get coins for free, then they are not interested in them.

The block, if it ever happened, would more likely be on the old transactions instead of addresses actually in order to make a ban database that is small and efficient.
It could be done with a protocol change that would require everyone to update their Bitcoin 2 Core client instead of just recommend to do so like usual.

Keeping Bitcoin 2 fork airdrop intact may still be worth it, all things considered, because not everyone who claims will dump, even though free coins are indeed more likely to be dumped than researched and saved.
There's always a chance that one of those who take their time to claim become a supporter of the project as has also happened in the past.

The total amount of BTC2 claimed from the fork and then deposited to crex24 for dumping/selling during the past few days is way higher than normal. (Around 1800 BTC2) but still nothing too major yet. It just had a major effect due to there being so few people trading BTC2 on a daily basis. Will be interesting to see if this goes on for a while or if there's nothing left to claim by him/them.

That is the first best thing to do, We'll appreciated all your efforts and hardwork for this project, In return we pledges our support for this project, We still believe in your advocacy and hope to see BTC2 will be lsited on the first 100 coin in CMC!
Patience and time are keys to get there, to move upwards to top 100 in CMC.
Bitcoin2 has been extremely under-valued at the moment.
Give it time, give the Bitcoin 2 Team more time, then we all can witness a magic.
I think the team will make good marketing soon and the price will be higher. A small airdrop on the  exchange has already attracted the attention of new users. I am only confused by the small amount of coins in circulation.

Well, it makes a lot of sense actually that if a lot of people don't yet know about Bitcoin 2, then less people will have claimed them from the fork. Also most of the private keys are owned by exchanges which makes claiming difficult or impossible for most people. So most of the BTC2 will likely remain unclaimed even if millions knew about BTC2 and so the current supply number will never be all that close to the truly circulating supply.
Also hodling BTC2 pays, so that's what most do with their BTC2 right now.
If exchanges have a lot of coins, then they can easily manipulate the price?

Only major exchanges that currently don't yet list Bitcoin 2, such as Bitfinex would have a lot. Assuming that they even knew which Bitcoin keys on their exchange have a BTC2 balance or bothered and dared to import them. They would essentially use their customers' funds to do so. Which would not go unnoticed for long and would end up outraging their customers who would rather redeem them themselves.

As far as I know, this hasn't really been a problem for any Bitcoin forks but if it ever becomes a problem for Bitcoin 2, there are solutions for such. For example in such a case we could consider locking any unclaimed BTC2 from the fork, thus lowering the supply. (By checking whether or not they have been moved in some way since the earliest blocks of Bitcoin 2. Such as by staking them or by transferring them.) We can already start discussing how you guys would feel about such a move if one day it would be wanted by the community as it is not the kind of decision that the developers should do on their own. The easiest way is to lock them by code from using the BTC2 that they have, based on the public addresses. Such a lock could technically be undone later but if we decide to do it in the first place, it is very unlikely that we would want to undo it.
The lock for the exchange seems to me to be right.

It would be hard to judge which Bitcoin addresses belong to the exchanges. So most likely if we do this one day, all unclaimed ones would be locked. Meaning the fork airdrop of Bitcoin 2 would end.

In case you guys are in a hurry to get it coinmarketcap listed and to its third exchange, we can get it listed cheaply by paying GIO at https://graviex.net/listing_registers (costs only around 0.1 BTC total because 1 GIO only costs 5 satoshis or so. Anyone can contribute or simply pay off the listing fee of 2 million GIO. 1 vote = 1 GIO, so they are not unique votes, just crowdfunding. search for BTC2 in that list. It just got added there.).

So are you guys interested in a Graviex listing? If there is interest, we can make an announcement on our newsletter and social channels about it.

By the way BTC2 just got listed on Coincodex. So now the only significant coin tracking site where we need to get a listing on that we know about is coinmarketcap. That just is awaiting for one more exchange listing. If there's others you know, do tell.
(We are also listed on Blockfolio app, Coingecko, Coinlib, worldcoinindex and Getdelta app.)
Sorry jackleszz, but Graviex this is a small  exchange, I had several different coins and now they are worth nothing. I think they should pay money for the listing.

Yeah I agree with you, BTC2 need to be listed on a descent exchanges at least Cryptopia for good startup, Crex24 has nothing to do to help BTC2 to get good spot in the market, One of the project I admired was XCASH, this project is compose of 3 man team, but in just 1 month they listed the coin in 4 exchanges including Cryptopia..XCASH is one of the example of a serious project, within 3 months after they launch the project is now traded on 4 exchanges and now listed also in CMC, they have no presale, instead they've giving away a monthly airdrop for the community, and this november another 4 Major xchanges will be adopted XCASH. My advice is the BTC2 dev team must listen to advice of their community.. I couldn't say that the team is not serious, but they need to listen to the community's advice like xcash did..

See their ANN: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4781246.0

And look at the volume of Xcash on Cryptopia. It is small volume in $ terms, not all that much more than the volume of BTC2. There's other coins listed there too that have tiny volume. The point is that just listing there won't be enough and that's one of the reasons why we didn't hurry to do that.

A bigger exchange listing alone doesn't bring significant volume, adoption and followers. Unless maybe if it is a listing at Binance, Bittrex or one of the other truly top exchanges.
Marketing is more important.

Projects' technical development tends to become much slower after they become more popular. Ethereum is a great example of that. Their hard fork upgrades become much harder to accomplish. Now it is easier to do bigger improvements to Bitcoin 2 than after major adoption. When we have a bigger follower base we will need to make our team bigger too. New team members could come from the community eventually. With that said, we aren't that far away from achieving the goals we want to before starting to market more.

I agree with @jackleszz, now I think a lot more work with the project. I mean, if a team makes a Dandelion protocol, decentralized exchange in the near future, it will be wonderful.
@jackleszz wrote earlier that there will be a wiki and there is a lot of necessary information here, but it is not structured. If the team does, I am ready to translate into Russian.

Yes after the new features we better create an updated white paper and preferably a wiki. Such translations will be much appreciated.

getting back to masternode rewards:  I still have a feeling I'm missing out on them pretty often.

here's what I got recently:  https://imgur.com/a/rZpyzqg
(sorry can't embed pics because newb account)

Now with 15 master nodes (and the 16th sometimes popping up), I should be getting  a bit less than 4 rewards per hour, pretty consistently. SOmetimes they do come 4 per hour but sometimes not, see the pic.

Could it be that someone has found a way to game the queue system?

There appears to be 18 masternodes online now (you can get the count on your own masternode which is more likely to be connected to them all (and thus see them all) with the command: getmasternodecount).

Most likely some of them have not enabled incoming connections and thus are not connected to or visible to all nodes. Perhaps even getting less rewards than they are supposed to because they wouldn't get all the masternode reward winner votes from other nodes that can't see them.
At least one person is also having trouble setting up a masternode in a non-standard way, creating some fluctuation.

Those alone would account for the difference that you mention. The masternode rewards system is based on established coins so if it can be gamed, lots of other masternode coins would also be affected.

Since it took longer than usual for your masternode to start getting a normal looking amount of rewards, I wonder how many connections it is seeing? And does the total amount you got in the last 24 hours seem normal if you count 18 masternodes? They might not be exactly fair to the penny in one hour as the system is not quite as simple as a standard queue but given a longer duration, should amount to correct amounts.

Regardless, we will investigate this and if needed, improve the masternode rewards queue system.

By the way, I expect Bitcoin 2 to be listed on Bisq soon, along with the release of the next version of Bisq. There was a big delay between new altcoin adds to it due to listing fee policy discussion but they said they will resume adding them now. Bisq is a decentralized exchange that uses Tor for anonymity.
