The exact procedure varies by what wallet you're using. etc........
Hope that helps Cheesy

Thanks very much, that helps a lot. Appreciate you took the time to lay it out for me and others new to the game.  Grin

NEVER EVER send your private key anywhere. Move yout Bitcoins to a new address before you do anything (paid 50cent in fees 2h ago).

Wait until Coinomi supports it and sweep the now empty private key which held Bitcoin due the fork. Did that with Bitcore now 20$ per coin Smiley

Thank you, that's a clear warning and I'll heed it.  I don't understand what "sweep the now empty private key which held Bitcoin due the fork", sorry. Where can I bone up on how to do that?

Also, once Bitcoin Atom puts out their Atom wallet, wouldn't that be a good way to get the BCA and store it?

There's a lot of confusing, contradictory and pessimistic/optimistic posts since the fork here. But not a lot of clear information.

Some of us here are new to the board and crypto in general.  I just got a wallet and transferred BCT to it last night.

I was told yesterday that if you owned bitcoin, no matter where you have it stored, before the BCA fork, you could at some point once the dust settles, transfer it to a BCA-viable exchange or wallet (sending public and private keys) and receive the equivalent BCA.

Is this true or not?  Can we all get on that basic info page 1st, from those who know to those who are noobs, about BCA? Because I don't for sure know what to believe thanks to some alarms being raised here about being cheated, or Atom being a scheme to rob us of keys, etc etc.

Someone earlier also suggested "sweeps" to me. I don't know what that means but want to learn. I have a good feeling about Atom but so far that's all it is, and not enough motivation to turn my private key over to a wallet that isn't even populated yet!

If anybody can point those of us who don't have enough knowledge yet in the right direction so we can learn credible info about how to navigate the fork turf , it would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

if you're looking for the safest option, go for sweeping

Thanks, I don't know about sweeping. Any suggestions for studying up on that?

I bought Bitcoin tonight, transferred all of it to my Exodus wallet and the next step would be to export both public and private keys to a BCA wallet, which is risky, the whole thing might either fail and you'd lose your BTC or someone could do bad stuff and steal it.

People here recommend sitting tight and letting it settle out for a bit. I'm going to do that.

I asked the same question earlier tonight, read the last couple pages to see the replies.

Short tell: the consensus is no, you don't. But to move the BCA after the hard fork, you'll need an Atom exchange and wallet.
but I'm a newb so don't trust me, read the last couple pages for what the experienced folks say.

Okay, super, thank you. I must have misunderstood something I read, I just stumbled on this today.

Would much rather not jump into yet another exchange until I know more what I'm doing.

There are several posts on this board about bitlish. Someone had some tech trouble withdrawing for a couple hours, I didn't look at the link, just found it on search.

anyway, appreciate it, thanks, that makes life a lot simpler right now.

Thanks for the advice, I appreciate your looking out for a newbie.

But seriously, no one has heard of Bitlish though Bitcoin Atom says it's legit?  And you think BCA is likely just another, potentially worthless fork?

thanks, I know there are many many risks in crypto but seems to my newbie brain that picking up a potential runner (there's a lot of good tech in BCA) is a no brainer.

Thanks for the alternative path...I was under the impression that if you don't have your Bitcoin on one of the Bitcoin Atom-partnered exchanges, you won't get the additional BCA token just because you own Bitcoin.

Bitlish was announced on the Bitcoin Atom Twitter feed today.
It's a British exchange.
Bitcoin Atom made the announcement on its own twitter page. https://twitter.com/atombitcoin
I imagine someone could have hacked it but how would we know? It quacks like Bitcoin Atom.

My question still stands: assuming Bitlish is legit (I looked into coinomi but I have an Apple phone, not Android),
I still don't know for sure whether the steps I outlined above are correct or if I'm missing something.
I just got funds in today.  I'd like to make sure I can get BCA because there's not much time left it seems.

thanks!

Bitlish is also listed as exchange for BCA

Question please, this is my first post:

I'm also new to crypto.  I have (finally) verified USD funding in Kraken exchange.

As I understand it, to claim the Bitcoin Atom, I need to
-
  • buy Bitcoin (not ETH or any other crypto) on Kraken,
    - transfer it to my wallet
    - then go ONLY to an exchange that will award the BCA to Bitcoin owners, such as Bitlish
    - transfer my new bitcoin into my Bitlish account
    - and wait for the fork tomorrow
Have I missed anything?

Thanks for the help
(Wow, I haven't seen one of these old bulletin board formats in years! This was more of a challenge than getting tier 3 verification on Kraken...almost  Wink)
