1  Other / Meta / Re: 5700+ posts, 1000+ activity, 0 Merit, Still Newbie. Ver2023 on: February 20, 2023, 09:27:56 AM
There is a topic in the Russian-speaking section, where there are about a dozen newbies with activity Legendary and with more than 2000 posts. It is noteworthy that absolutely all posts of these newcomers are in one single topic. That is, if you delete this topic, they all become Brand New.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1661044.new#new

So these are spammers or they are not able to get merits because they have less information about crypto in general ?

3  Other / Meta / Re: Has the bitcointalk been lost? on: August 03, 2018, 06:55:35 AM
No I don't see anything like this they were very active at the forum , as long as the bitcoin is in the market it is obvious that bitcointalker will be also here,  and she per the bitcoin condition in the market I don't think bitcoin will disepare over a night.

Thanks for clarifying the gender of crypto and this forum.

Now let us discuss what OP asked. Here is what I fee about the current state of the forum.

1) Merit system has increased the quality of posts in some sections. There are some bad effects as well but they should fade with time.

2) Signature campaigns have reduced (may be because of less demand for crypto).

3) Moderation is currently quicker than what it was when I joined.

4  Economy / Services / Re: n.exchange (formerly nexchange.io) Signature Campaign on: June 21, 2018, 02:03:31 PM
Do I have to wait for the updated signatures to be posted here to apply ? By when can we expect that ?
5  Other / Meta / Re: Justin Dowman using multiple accounts to bump his thread? on: June 21, 2018, 02:10:52 AM
It's hard for us to prove he is using multiple accounts and bots to bump the thread.
~

Can't mod /supermod see the IP? I was a mod time ago in one forum and I could see Ip from users.

How hard you think is to use a proxy for this ? I would not be surprised if there are bots with proxy support for this with some few thousand generic comments supplied as well.

You can confirm that bumping is going on there but there is no way to prove that it is him doing this. What is a competitor is doing this to malign his image ?
6  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: How to really judge the potential of an ICO on: June 18, 2018, 05:22:23 AM
There are some key facts that you should look in ICO:
  • Team and their experience (members should have public profiles on linkedin)
  • Publicity of the Team (how freely they communicate, answer questions about project etc.
  • Advisors if any (always a good idea to contact this person yourself to be sure that he is really advising particular project
  • Check when the project website is created, and registered (also a quick method to suspect a scam project)
  • Idea of the project (try to evaluate value of project by yourself, what perspectives it has, or is it just hype)

The list could go on and on, but this are the main criteria which i use to look for ICO with potential.

Most of these can be faked so, do a proper check in all.

1) In linkedin, try to send messages to all the members and see if they reply. If you do not get any reply, those profile may be fake.

2) Regarding website or domain age, the project can easily buy a  old domain and build a website on it. Even if they create the website a month before, you will see registration date as 4 or 5 years before. Proper way to check this is through wayback machine which allows you to check how the website exactly looked in the past.
7  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Good Signature Campaign on: June 18, 2018, 05:19:27 AM
You have to choose one based on own interests and various other factors like :

1) If the campaign is paying in its own coin, read about the project. See if the coin can be very valuable in future. Even if they have allocated less number of coins, you should go for it as the total value can be huge in future.

2) It is very important to join a genuine campaign only. Otherwise all your time and effort will get wasted. There are some way to judge the genuineness of a campaign like who is the campaign manger.
8  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Sell and buy ethereum? on: June 18, 2018, 05:16:00 AM
Currently the prices are down and thus it is a good idea to invest in ETH. It will be at least $800 in next 2-3 months and thus you can easily double your money in this duration.

As a long term investment, I see ETH as  a good choice. It is being used as a payment option by many and thus the value will rise only. I also like the fact that it has show positive growth even at times when bitcoin was performing bad. Very few alt coins have shown such behavior in the past.

9  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin and retirement - how do you see your future? on: June 18, 2018, 05:13:47 AM
I do not want to retire even if I make a lot of money using crypto or any other method because:

1) We should live a lively life and do work that we enjoy. If money was only thing that mattered in life, billionaires would have taken retirement. but we still have people like Elon Musk who work very hard.

2) If I succeed in getting a lot of wealth, I would like to expand it to passive businesses and use the money earned for social work. There is no value of having surplus of anything if you do not care to share.
10  Economy / Economics / Re: 5904 banks frauds in 3 months in India on: June 18, 2018, 05:08:11 AM
It is sad to hear this. Here are some other scams going on in Indian banks:

1) Most of the house loans are passed with some commissions. That is why bank employees approve loans to people who are not even eligible to get loans. They later fail to pay back and it goes to NPA.

2) Point 1 also applies to many of other types of loans like business loans as proved in Nirav Modi case.

3) When demonetization was announced, many bank managers exchanged old currency with new one for some commission.

11  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Do you believe in crypto long-term? on: June 17, 2018, 03:07:25 PM
I think that an ideal investor should do some of both because:

1) Long term investment is suited in case of coins like BTC and ETH. They have survived and grown for years and thus one can assume similar trends for future.

2) But you cannot use the same approach in case of all alt  coins. There are some alt coins which where removed from exchanges as no one was trading in them. So if you pick a new coin and wait for 2-3 years, it might not even exist till then. Thus, short term investment is better in this case.
12  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Which coin is the best among altcoins? on: June 17, 2018, 02:44:42 PM
Here are some of the alt coins that are good choice for investment:

1) ETH: Most of the online transactions are happening with ETH now instead of BTC. This is because for faster transactions and less fees.

2) Steem: One can easily go on the website steemit and check the features. Even someone with limited crypto knowledge can judge that platform.

3) Other coins: Then there are some other coins that come with more risk but can reward more. Ripple is one such coin.
13  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: EOS or Tron on: June 17, 2018, 02:42:41 PM
I have invested in both of these but if you will ask me to pick one I will go with EOS because:

1) TRON already saw a recent pump when there was main net. It would take some time before we see next pump.

2) EOS has got some recent big transactions which made this coin come in news. It will boost the prices.

3) EOS is much safer than TRON. You can see this is past performance and price movements.
14  Other / Meta / Re: What does a Jr. Member do? on: June 14, 2018, 05:01:55 AM
Firstly, I'm happy becoming Jr. Member. But I have no idea what to do and I have a question in mind "what does a Jr. Member do?".

I met my friend (a Hero member in this forum) and asked him "what should I do?". He gave me some advices and I would like to share with you:
1. Join Signature Campaign
2. Keep reading and posting good threads
3. Investigate spammers and  merit farming then report them

Hopefully this thread will help you too and I would be greatly appreciated for the advices from you all.

Best,

There is no fixed criteria for things that  junior member should do and it should be decided based on your own interests. Just because your friend is suggesting you to join a signature campaign does not mean you should go for it. Note that these bounties also require you to perform certain tasks and your current time schedule might not allow you for this. So decide accordingly after reading all the requirements.

And for the rest two suggestions, you should do this irrespective of your current rank.
15  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why people are still buying Bitcoin? on: June 01, 2018, 12:49:08 PM
The current price will appear huge because you compare it from the point where it started. But you are not thinking about future, there is still lot of growth opportunity for bitcoins. However, you are correct that some of the alt coins can give better returns than bitcoins with short term investment.

but, we should not forget that bitcoins also come with additional safety as all other alt coins depend on it.
16  Other / Meta / Re: Someone trying to get to my account? on: April 17, 2018, 01:03:05 PM
I received this in the mail today:
This mail was sent because the 'forgot password' function has been applied to your account. To set a new password click the following link:
And the IP comes out as New Zealand.
So, should I change my password or what?

In my opinion, this is not something big to worry about. One can easily find emails used for registering on this forum even if you have not shared it in public. There are tools for this which can automatically check thousands of emails. One can easily send the password reset also as it just requires them to enter the email.

If you see someone doing this repetitively, you may consider changing the email. This way he will not be able to annoy you by sending same password reset link on the mail again and again.
17  Other / Meta / Re: Merit is just a bonus on: April 10, 2018, 04:48:51 AM
There is so many topic talking about merit, how do i get merit, merit system is unfair, etc

Basically I like to read, but not good in write, it's hard for me to give a good answer to a topic, because many more experienced people, more expert people in this forum, of course their answers are better than me, so I am more often read without commenting, bad comments will only become junk, so very hard for me to get merit by making a good post

Maybe  my rank will never go up forever, so what?
I know rank is important for bounty hunter especially in sign camp, is that just the goal? Raise the rank to get more reward on sign camp bounty
Come on .. bounty is not just sign camp there are many others
As I mentioned above I am more often read without commenting on a topic
So the sign camp task that should make few post in one week is little hard for me

The point is I do not care wether I get merit or not, my rank is up or not, the important thing is i can learn something from this forum, at the end the knowledge that i get from here can be used to get money from trading or from other, increasing my knowledge is more important than getting merit or raising rank

Here is my opinion regarding your opinion:

1) Fact that you create a new thread about merit system with nothing new to add tells about how much you do not care about merit system. Smiley

2) There is nothing wrong if someone is trying for merits to rank up and get more pay in signature campaign. But one should not break the forum rules for this. If someone is making a quality posts in order to get merits, forum is also benefited as post quality is improved.

18  Other / Meta / Re: Merit & new rank requirements on: April 10, 2018, 04:45:18 AM
Boom, just in a blink of an eye, an attempt to get merit turned into a chance to be banned. Plagiarism is bad thing to do even if it just in the internet.

Wonder if he is banned already. By the way, how do you check plagiarism things @TheQuin??

There are a number of ways to find out copied content. There re paid services for this purpose like copyscape and also there are some free ways to check this. You can simply copy 2-3 lines of the post and paste it inn Google to see if it is copied from some website. This will work in most cases as the website which posted it first should appear higher in the search engines. Also, some websites have time of post made listed and you can check using that information.
19  Economy / Reputation / Re: Merit Source @digaran has gone too far on: April 10, 2018, 04:42:17 AM
Just try to avoid the person and use the ignore option. All people have different way of thinking and also the maturity level is different depending on the age and life experiences. By giving importance to a person who is trying to put you down, you are giving him free publicity.

Regarding you mentioning that he is a merit source, that should not be done in public. If you feel that he is misusing the position of merit source, report it to the moderators with all proofs. As you have mentioned that he is a merit source, I think a lot of members will now try commenting on his threads or posts in hope of attention and merits.
20  Other / Meta / Re: Possible Merit Glitch? on: April 10, 2018, 04:36:06 AM
So I recently merited this post . With 1 merit (or so I thought Shocked)

Since I was on mobile for that time, and chrome has a feature where if you pull down on the screen while on a webpage, the webpage will refresh. When I accidentally did this, my page refreshed and the poster received 2 merits, not 1.

Is there a possible fix for this? Is it a forum wide problem or just my phone?

~Zapo

Many members had mentioned this problem when merit system was launched. After, you have given merit to a post, if you refresh the page same number of merits are given to same user again. For instance, you give 5 merits for a post and refresh the page, he will get 5 more merits.

Though I am surprised that this is not fixed yet by the admin as it is a major bug in my opinion.
