I've read that there's been several elections in Venezuela in the last years and that none have been questioned internationally. Why is that?

Can you develop please I don't understand what you mean, what NEM wallet activation has to do with POS or POW from another system?Huh Thank you

I know very little about cryptocurrencies, blockchains, etc. From what I read in and understood from, the new white paper, Petro will no longer be a NEM coin. The Venezuelan government has developed its own blockchain platform, which it believes is much more secure. It seems logical to suppose that while they were doing this, they would have paralyzed all Petro blockchain transactions. Of course, I may be interpreting everything incorrectly.

There is a new "whitepaper" at petro.gob.ve, but its in Spanish.

If I'm not mistaken, Petro will now function on a hash X11 platform, and will use a combination of PoW and PoS for mining protection. Hopefully, that may be the reason the NEM wallets have not been activated.

some people are saying that they are working on their own blockchain and technology.
venezuelan economy can't depend on a blockchain that the venezuelan government can't control.
NEM could be shut down anytime by the U.S. world dictatorship if they receive enough money $$$.
or they could sabotage Petro.

What utter bullshit. The U.S. doesn't give a rat's ass about NEM, plus how could they possibly shut it down? It's a completely decentralized blockchain with major hubs all over the WORLD. Making a government-controlled blockchain defeats the whole purpose of cryptocurrency. That's something that Maduro never wrapped his head around.

The Venezuelan government is the one fucking with ACTUAL cryptocurrencies that are a solution to its problems, actively keeping its people hobbled financially:

I'm looking for the greatest benefit to the widest amount of people and that usually comes from a competitive system not fixed ideals or even military force for command of an economy.    Obviously we cannot avoid loss always, a bad business or a failed crop is a normal situation and impossible to avoid.   The danger with fixed systems is that there is no steering left, its dead set on its course.  For Venezuela it was centred on high oil prices, dangerous as their have a complicated oil requiring heavy refinement not simple like the Saudi Kingdom has maybe

We dont really have capitalism in the wider world, its common place for governments to fix various measures such as interest rates and issuance of currency.   Who can blame them its a great way to finance government via an indirect tax, in the end the people lose their competitive advantage when the largest of entities command a bias from what is ultimately force not innovation or good business efficiency.   Its a criticism of everywhere, the relevance to crypto is that little is solved when a blockchain is purely derived from the say so of just a central authority, to cut out that element misses a large part of the promise to an independent online currency.   But still I had hoped something new interesting might occur inadvertently

Rome wasn't built in a day. Something interesting still may occur.

They have the advantage of being able to do whatever the heck they want, there is no globally distributed ledger to carefully coordinate between remote partners in mixed time zones and multiple languages.

You're being sarcastic right? That's exactly what a blockchain is for.

They can just scrap whatever went wrong and just pull another rabbit out the hat and tell people to just use that blockchain instead, same difference.

I'm not sure that would sit well with everybody who has been planning to use it as a NEM token over the last 6 months.

The petro was a prime example of throwing a blockchain at a problem and hoping for the best. However, instead of just being some fanciful, pie-in-the-sky idea, this directly effects the livelihood of millions of people, for the worse. The moment this thing stops being smoke-and-mirrors is the moment I'll stop trashing it.

Well not really sarcastic but the real life situation is there is giant differences between various crypto standards.    A unilateral blockchain really is miles away from BTC with its distribution done competitively.     That small point is lost on many users though, they just want it to work.   Its far easier to make this top down approach work out.

I agree until its really used then its just been alot of talk.   Maybe just the talk of using it had some influence, I read that Iran intends to use some blockchain setup.
I'd be surprised if they do distribute the blockchain properly, it'll probably be another command economy setup which to me misses the point of how open trade and monetary velocity can enable commerce to take place in benefit of all participants and be a positive in an economy

I think you may be a little bit biased against Venezuela because its government's economic policies do not adjust to the ideal capitalist model, which of course only exists in textbooks. So called "command economies" like those of the Soviet Union and China have brought benefits, although not to "all participants", to hundreds of millions of people. Given that the Petro has been badly handled by the Venezuelan government, its implementation is a process that is only beginning.

Hy there,

i find this concept really interesting and i want to participate in this project.

1.) Where can i buy into Petro (exchange)?
2.) Who is protecting my interests?
3.) Who is legally responsible for this, if it explodes for example?
4.) Is there an official Thread from the Venezuelan government on this forum?

Trump is probably rolling on the floor and crying  Grin

The concept is interesting and partly because its government backed in its propagation which is especially unusual.    I dont suppose it will have success but its possible they create some positives by accident, the law of unintended consequences runs strong with any government operation and in this case against such a negative backdrop we can be hopeful of something occurring secondary as a positive.

As far as buying Petro you probably should not unless you already do trade with Venezuela regularly.   It could land you in alot of trouble possibly if you are in country holding sanctions against this regime.

Most relevant for your questions might be to read on the court proceedings occurring for the debts of the PDVSA national oil company.   I think their assets are being sold off to settle non payment.    I doubt at this stage you would have any recourse within the country itself, these assets are USA based so Venezuela  has little choice on this process where as PTR is in their hands.
There is no official thread that I've seen but ask in the Spanish speaking forums perhaps

The only thing it has over the bolivar is that it can't be printed into worthlessness.
The supply of PTR is not capped apparently.  Really for this crypto idea to take off it needs to far less confined to the ideas of government control but it saves the wasted paper and ink

Indeed, there exists a saying
"The first one who steps through the door, gets shot!"

Let's see how this is developing, but the fact that a state tries to get out of a grip from an invasive country by the help of this technology and idea, is worth a try. Here in Europe it's all fine with Venezuela, so it honestly doesn't bother me.

I do not know what part of Europe you are. But if you do not know, it's best to shut up.

Europe thinks what the rest of the world about the regime that ravages Venezuela.

I honestly don't know why you are beeing so hostile towards me in person, but i do think i do know that not all Europe has the same attitude towards Venezuela as you obviously think  Grin

This person that is so hostile to you is an agent, unwittingly or not, of U.S.A.'s policy of aggression against the Venezuelan people and its democratically elected government, because Venezuela is trying to act liberate itself from Washington's control. This person participates in this forum only to attack the Venezuelan government; he's not interested in crypto currency.

They did $5000 🤦🏾‍♂️...

Economist Luis Gavazut recently declared that the pre-sale of Petro, in April, generated $3,338 millions, as a result of negotiations with big firms. If this is true, I believe all Petro purchases, including the smaller ones, will eventually be recognized as valid.

well, this is really strange for me.
Do you have a link with an official announcement?
news about Venezuela in English:
https://www.telesurtv.net/english
https://venezuelanalysis.com

I can't believe that PETRO will be a real currency in venezuela...
we are still waiting for that.

mmm, i can't find those news.

i would like a direct link where the government of venezuela says that petro will be an official currency..

Petro will not be the official currency.
The value of the official currency (Sovereign Bolivar) will be determined  (pegged to) the variable daily value of Petro.

 Cheesy

I might start calling newb shills "kamikazes" from now on, its definitely a proper application of the word.

I´ll take it that you don't know what a kamikaze is. Anyway, he who laughs last, laughs best.

What’s the point in writing huge comments with deep analysis, when the truth is, Venezuela itself has serious diplomatical and economical problems, like hyperinflation, oil industry crisis, suspension from OAS and never ending losses of allies... Of course, the government simply won’t admit its mistakes, because there might be a coup soon if the situation continues. And El Petro is obviously failing

I sure that I'm fortunate to have access to all of these enlightened economic and political opinions...but I prefer to wait, quietly, and see.

Amateurs or not they still have been able to interview the developer and it looks like the overall situation is not ideal.

You are right. But actually they are no amateurs. So if anyone knows Spanish I recommend to read the article as I did translate only a very small part of the interview with the developer:

https://awriterwithfreedom.wordpress.com/2018/05/19/el-petro-es-el-hijo-malquerido-de-dos-rusos-muy-cercanos-al-escandalo/
That's a very curious article. I read a lot about how Russia was involved, this one cleared many things up. And besides, did you translate the part in the end, where it says that venezuelan government didn't even pay them?

I read the article and I checked all of the articles of "awritwewithfreedom" and I found that almost all are biased attacks, without factual references, on Venezuela, included the article about Petro. So, why should we believe anything this article says?
And, I add, I'm convinced the Venezuelan government hasn't been handling this matter correctly, offering sufficient and timely information.

May 30, TV interview about the Petro, 12:30 (noon) venezuelan time.

In that interview, Carlos Vargas, Superintendent of Cryptocurrencies, among other topics, said:

"... que están a la espera que el presidente Nicolás Maduro autorice la liberación del Petro, para que sea comercializado en las casas de cambio virtuales autorizadas."

Petro's future price doesn't depend on whether Venezuela's government is good or evil, popular or unpopular, etc.
Petro will be used intensively in purchase of Venezuelan oil, in commodity imports by Venezuela, etc., so demand of Petro will rise as will its price... unless, of course, Venezuela's government issues a larger amount of Petro or it succumbs due to US aggression.
Thank you for the intresting topic, I been waiting for that subject, do you personally think the price will follow the oil price or it was just an indication?

Supposing that Petro is a merchandise with a fixed (invariable) offer (say 100,000,000 Petros), its price will fluctuate directly (rise or fall) as the demand of Petro rises or falls.
I understand that Venezuela's government has said that if Petro's price, at any moment, falls below the price of a barrel of oil, the Venezuelan government will buy your Petros at the oil price of that moment.

LA ESTAFA DEL PETRO EN NUMEROS
(Nivel básico: apto para rojitos)

Did Maduro say he would assign those Petro simultaneously? Petro will be circulating. For example, foreign oil companies that acquired Petro, will pay Venezuela with those Petro when they buy oil, and Venezuela will use those Petro in local investment and imports.
