The context there is the paper money being otherwise used is a burden and effectively has no value.  So by contrast the Petro system could even work despite criticism it only really has to be better then what it replaces, for starters it will cost alot less to run hopefully then hauling giant amounts of paper bills about.

I'm still interested if Venezuela can demonstrate the benefits to using digital money across an entire nation.   Even while under a negative shadow cast by the failures of the previous currency standard they could be pioneers and even show innovations that the world will learn from.   I hope they keep an open door to such innovation and they might yet succeed, there is always lots of criticism possible but it would be good to see benefits occur for the people and with efficiency gains its feasible
