1  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: MTGOX Trading started? on: June 26, 2011, 06:08:48 PM
I'm guessing they just did a final clear of orders. I now show a best ask of $50 and a best bid of 0.0001
2  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How can you short sell Bitcoins? on: June 15, 2011, 05:03:14 AM
IF it goes to 0...you double your money shorting. If it goes up big time...you a big time f'd in your anus.
3  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Predictions after tomorrow's difficulty increase? on: June 15, 2011, 04:53:44 AM
One could argue that a price increase because of a difficultly increase already got priced in from it hitting $10 and change until now. In the new york stock exchange, stock prices typically move based on estimations and expectations of future events. Since the difficulty change is known in advance, those that believe that will cause the price to go up would buy in as soon as they know of the difficulty increase. Why would one wait until the difficulty increase actually happens to buy in if that is your reason for buying (more)?
4  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bank to Dwolla transfer time. on: June 13, 2011, 08:32:03 PM
I'm currently waiting for dwolla to make 2 small deposits so I can verify my bank account...THEN transfer funds. Would love to know as well...but can't vote myself since I haven't done it yet Tongue
5  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Trading paused??? on: June 12, 2011, 08:53:46 PM
Yup seems to be back up and running now. Dropped to about $19 but back over $20. So no big move either way in the early going here...
6  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Mt Gox Volume Thing on: June 12, 2011, 06:49:51 PM

7  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Trading paused??? on: June 12, 2011, 06:43:23 PM
I'm not getting my expected entertainment today watching the volatility though :-(

Once MtGox is back to all systems go do you think there will be a hard fast move in either direction? As in quickly go from $20 to either $15 or $25 in a matter of say 15-30 min?
8  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Trading paused??? on: June 12, 2011, 06:11:49 PM
Checked multiple forums outside of the newbie section and at quick glance didn't see any threads/topics about it. Weird.

Seems tradehill is working though and a short while had a trade as low as $14? (USD)
9  Economy / Exchanges / Trading paused??? on: June 12, 2011, 05:56:31 PM
Is it just me or has the price not updated at all for like an hour?

http://bitcoincharts.com/markets/mtgoxUSD_trades.html shows '-' volume and such for 15min and 1hr.
http://mtgoxlive.com/orders has just 1 'bump' in the price in the past 73 minutes

What's going on??
10  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Monday's high on: June 12, 2011, 06:17:06 AM
Anyone want to guess at the high we'll see on Monday?  My guess is $21 USD

Since it will be a few days before I can buy any...I'm hoping for a high of single digits Tongue Seems like a lot of buy support around $10. If it hits $9.99 though, who knows what can happen. On the flip side, the sell orders seem small/weak...1-2 cash heavy buyers and it can jump several dollars in minutes. If I could I'd make an initial buy 'now' and then average down if it finds a way to go lower.
11  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What is your current BTC situation? on: June 12, 2011, 05:05:43 AM
I bought a few less than 20 in the low teens. sold some into usd on trade hill
earlier today i went back into BTC so I'm now up to 23 of them.

I wish i had more or more cash to pick some up at the current price.

but i'm going long on BTC, even if the US and/or other countries attempt to threaten BTC

I guess i'm ok with being a social deviant.  I break the law every morning but going 5 over the speed limit

I'm such a rebel.

I THINK you can go up to 7 over without getting pulled over...but who knows lol. Probably depends on what kind of day the cop is having :p

Yup...don't forget your water wings! lol
13  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What is your current BTC situation? on: June 12, 2011, 04:19:42 AM
Mining at ~0.7BTC/day. Not a huge amount, but I already had the hardware and I get free electricity, so it's pure profit  Cool

Did any heavy duty minors move into an apartment with utilities included? lol

If the volatility doesn't decrease some soon I don't know that I'll feel 'safe' going to bed or even leaving the house while holding any BTCs. Could go to bed with the price at $15 and wake up to $10. Maybe much worse. Seeking $2-5 moves regularly right now in 5-10 minute spans.
This is certainly true. I wouldn't leave my money in BTC for any amount of time if I wasn't actively watching the market, certainly not overnight. Last night it was just under $20 and I assumed things would rebound to around $30. Then I woke up and it was trading at <$15.

I know it's a 'worldwide' currency but with this much volatility a 24/7 market doesn't seem like the best way to go but probably no helping/changing that. Even if it wasn't I guess we'd still have big gaps up and down...pros and cons no matter what.

Perhaps a large announcement box at the top of every page would be best? I've seen this done on other forums when global announcements are necessary, like for scheduled downtime and the like.

Why would they do that?  That makes too much sense.  I had to find out from Reddit that I was restricted to this forum.  Was in the middle of talking to people on the Mining subforum, but guess I won't be finishing those conversations anytime soon.

Would be better if they just didn't let people with less than a certain number of posts to start new topics/threads. Oh well Undecided

I'm lookin for bargains with the drop. I have always bought during a drop and I have yet to loose a penny. Down markets don't have to be a downer.
 Wink

I wouldn't at these levels...but are there easy ways to short bitcoins right now. I know I've seen mention of options and such and that tradehill should have an options market in the near future.

I'm also waiting to get in the game. My bank transfer to Dwolla is pending, I guess it won't go through until Monday now. Does anyone know how long a transfer from Dwolla to TradeHill will take? A few hours?

I just setup a dwolla account today so need to first wait for them to make 2 small deposits to verify my bank account. So I probably got several more days before I can do any trading. Hoping it doesn't have a huge bounce/rally back over $20 or $25 before I can get some.

Same... just agonizingly watching the market drop like a rock, then climb, then drop like a rock... though apparently it does this every week, so there will be some action later for me, but I want to get in tonight

Yea...I of course don't plan on going 'all in' all at once. Segment my buying and average down if necessary. Under $12 currently looks like a great spot to make the first buy though. Then buy another block around $10.50. Maybe more at like $10.05. Then if $10 were to fall play it by ear :p
