After much research, I'm contemplating on buying an R9 290x card to start scrypt mining. After seeing this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QQhqOKKAq7o , I'm a bit put off. I'm basically new to all of this- not cryptos but computer hardware- and I was wondering how some of you go about keeping the card(s) cool so that the fan speed doesn't increase like it did in that video? Or is there a card with the same hashrate or better that has less noise and around $800 and less? Thank you in advance.

Apparently it's called the Peltier effect. ![](https://ip.bitcointalk.org/?u=https%3A%2F%2Fscontent-a-ord.xx.fbcdn.net%2Fhphotos-ash3%2Ft1%2F1898057_10152261488153360_1516312273_n.jpg&t=663&c=1iBgki_2LGaR_Q)

1) Yes. I own about 20-30 different altcoins. 2) I obtained my first bitcoins on November/2013. I'd known about them for about a year before then though. 3) Yes. 4) I keep all of my coins. So I can't tell whether or not I benefit, or if I'll benefit in the future. 5) B of course. As I've said, I keep all of my altcoins. I prefer quality coins over get rich quick coins. 6) For Education/Adventure yes. 7)- ![Cool](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/cool.gif) None that I can think of. 9) Not sure. 10) I don't know how I feel about this. If well executed and bitcoins break it more into the mainstream, I can see it being successful.

Evening,
I don't have the time to work on anything like this, but would like to see something like it:
Karpeles Coin
1 - pre-mine 744,00 or more Karpeles Coins, and distribute them to those who lost funds at Gox 2 - mint 1,000,000 / month, with no cap, but randomly delete 744,000 coins from the blockchain each month
Post more ideas below.
> randomly delete 744,000 coins from the blockchain each month I spit my drink on the screen. lol.

Anyone selling? I'm a Takei fan. If he does get behind this, it'll not only be big for Bitcoins(he has a huge active following) but this coin as well.

I have 1 Million USD I want to invest all into a single alt-coin. Which coin do i get? I do not want a scrypt coin or a sha256 coin, be creative.
With that amount it'd be better to get together with some programers and make your coin that's not scrypt or sha256 and any other idea you want in a coin.

Op was gambling, not trading. And he couldn't have lost that much. Maybe 20%
i lost much more , much more. I bought when bitcoin was 1050 cause i waited to much and at that time it seemed it was going up, and exactely in that time there was the epic dump. I waited a bit, then when i saw price going under 700 i had to sell, i simply could not bear a bigger loss. BUt bitcoin recovered slowly so i made wrong decision. I decided to enter another time to get some money back and i was newly unlucky. Ok i should have hold. But i am not a long term investor, i do not give trust to bitcoin, to me is a temporary bubble and could end from a moment to the other and value go back to 10. This is cause i sold so fast. Totally i lost about 4-5000 euroes of 8000 euroes invested in 2 attempts, i tried cause all my friends were doing some money with bitcoin and convinced me, at last. So i tried to do the same, after being what i supposed to be well informed. I did my bitstamp account and bought. I was unlucky. It was maybe the worst moment of all year, almost. And even this second time, wrong moment. I will invest nothing on bitcoin or in other financial assets for all my life. I am a 25 yo italian boy and i am a father since 3 years ago, i have a little girl to breed and an uncertain job which gives me simply enough to eat and nothing more, and i am even trying to continue studying, even though is very difficult to find time. I was illuded to make some money fast, money which i would have really needed, people convinced me it was easy, someone made 10 times the money in few months, so i tried too. And i am serious now: i put about 80% of my savings in btc, i will be hardly able to pay the leasehold next month, and this just cause i have been stupid and believed shit people said about easy earnings. Best regards, i leave this website and bitcoin community forever, i hope someone has read this and will be saved too. >A little girl to breed Lolwut? On a serious note though, stop selling! Bitcoins fluctuate in value all the time. As more companies start accepting them- this is growing exponentially- more people will get into them increasing the market cap. You'll be glad as heck that you were an early investor.

Most of those articles are from 2013. More good news has come out about Bitcoin than bad news since then. Bait harder troll. And holy s***, it just hit me that it's already February.

bitcoin, litecoin, nxt, protoshares, peercoin, mastercoin, eTherium. Litecoin because MAYBE there is room in the market for 1 shitcoin, then the rest because those are all of the ones that are actually innovative.
give me a marketable copy coin anyday, innovatives mainly for a very niche crowd, ltc just being the silver to btc gold will take it way further then most the 'innovative' coins as the public becomes more interested in alternative currencies. I hold the same opinion over altcoins.

First thing first, not many top coins- BTC, LTC etc...- have representatives keeping us updated on these forums. It's good that Peercoin does. The newsletter is very thorough. If this was my first time reading about Peercoins with some prior knowledge of crypto-currencies I'd have almost everything needed to get into Peercoins and where it's heading. One thing that's lacking is the official peercoin website. I believe that it should be the most emphasized on thing, but it's nothing that Google can't "fix". The newsletter could also be a little more jazzier, it's a bit plain looking. Overall the fact there is a newsletter in the first thing is a nice thing and it has has good very good info.

For newbies to Fedora, this is one of the best ways to get free coins http://faucet.fedoraco.in/ . That's their official website by the way. I've gotten more than 10,000 Tips in the span of weeks on there. The payout per address has probably decreased by now.
