I come from China, I like to talk my thought about 4 Billion issue, in China statutory measurement units , we will call the 4 billion is 40 yi (yi pronunciation is E (in A B C D E), and 40 is not so bad as 4 in China culture.
But i don't know other Asia issue about 4 billion.
if we still want change the quantity, I suggest the number 3.99 billion,because 3.99 billion =21 million*190.
and 21 million is bitcoin quantity, while 190 is a good number in China, it means live long, bitcoin*190 will means we can live longer than bitcoin.
The hate for 4 comes from the pronuncination of 4 (= 四 [sì]) is almost same with the pronunciation of death(=死[sǐ]) 4 = 四 [sì] 40 = 四十 [sìshí] 40 includes 4 in pronunciation. EDIT/ My hobby is banknote collecting. The special serial no. banknote is expensive. Solid number note(1111111, 2222222,.....9999999) is most expensive. Among them, 8888888 is most expensive, and 4444444 is cheapest in spite of same rarity. Million number note(1000000, 2000000,.....9000000) is expensive, too. The idea is to sell a physical commodity and support the development of a "Mobile Wallet and a Fast Exchange". So people buying these coins are not only helping the developers raise some money to help fund the side projects but they are also doing a huge favour to themselves and the whole community. In the end they also own physical assets which are not likely going down in value in the future. Infact in 2-3 years when NEM has reached greater heights, these coins will be highly collectible and will carry a hefty price tag. These side projects are really going to define NEM and make NEM standout from the rest of the Coins currently in existence. I have a different conceptual roadmap. What's more feasible and even more desirable is to push the frontier in the direction of a complete re-imagination of money and banking system. To do that we need a careful examination of all the functions that banking system have advanced since the birth of the modern banking system and to see How a decentralized framework can better them in efficiency and transparency. These are the works I have been doing (conceptualization) and imo that would make NEM distinct from all other competitors and projects. I can't go into more details but here are some areas that I hope NEM would pioneer: re-imagining personal loan, re-imagining FICO, re-imagining social lending etc.
I like your ambitious plan for NEM. I can see NEM emulating any financial product. A NEM savings function where you can withdraw after a deposit amount has been reached or after x amount of time has passed. A NEM pension function where a account release x percentage every x months to another address. A NEM Inheritance function that can send to a failsafe address after x amount of account inactivity. Annuities, escrow services, assurance contracts, with NEM all these things should be possible. |

I have read that contract mechanisms using bitcoin are susceptible to DoS attacks and cannot be made secure. Does this also apply to NEM? If we create financial contracts using NEM, can it be made to be resistant to DoS attacks?

what gives a thing value. Is it utility, is it beauty, is it nostalgia/emotion, is it cultural? why is a diamond more valuable then medicine. Why is an arsenal win over spurs more valuable to me then $100 but not a $1000. The Mona Lisa is to me personally worth very little but to an art lover invaluable. It's rare,beautiful has historical emotional value which converts to financial value. Bitcoin has value because its relatively rare, innovative, has utility and has gained a reasonable amount of trust. Aurora coin has value because it has utility, somewhat rare, speculative value and sentimental value. What is the most important component for value creation. How would Nem be valuable to people.Sorry I am just daydreaming. NEM would be valuable because people give it value. It begs the question, why is anything valuable? The answer is that there is nothing intrinsically valuable about diamond, gold, silver or other precious metals. The idea of 'intrinsic value' is nonsense. Which begs the question why people apart from us stakeholders give it value  . How do we make people fall in love with NEM? Doge was brilliant, it appealed to the better side of human nature. It started by being fun, making fun of the greed culture among miners and being generous. wow its really hard to think of ideas that are effective. Yes, Doge has been great in the marketing area. Has anyone seen their page at http://foundation.dogecoin.com/ ? NEM definitely needs to do something like that. I believe this will help add to the value of NEM. We can add a subdomain called "foundation" or "charity" to the ournem.com site. |
