1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [Universal-Wallet] Coinomi (BIP44 compatible) on: December 12, 2015, 04:06:13 PM
@onlinedragon partially my mistake to prematurely announce that we work on it. We originally wanted to port to iOS and then to other platforms, unfortunately our development strategy would not scale so we had to scrap the previous plan for a cross platform solution. In the next weeks we will analyze how much time we need and announce a launch date.

@favdesu @aiwe Confirm, the Digibyte Electrum was outdated, fixed. If you hear about an eminent hard fork in an alt-coin you can always inform us by sending us to support at coinomi.com.

@Financisto We have thought about this and it is definitely a feature that we would like to add. As a walk around you could use this tool in an offline computer to generate the private keys from your recovery phrase. An old smartphone with an offline signer app would be more user friendly.

Do you still have this problem? Could you send us a message to support at coinomi.com to debug this issue?

If you have backed up your recovery phrase (and if enabled, your BIP39 passphrase) your coins are completely safe because your addresses are generated deterministically from it.

I know it's an issue with network syncing but now I noticed another problem and this is due to many transactions being stacked up altogether with different addresses attached to the same extended public key (xPub)! The problem is : whenever I try to open the app, it always syncs from start (i,e. 0 BTC) and as it gradually syncs nearly 100 transactions, the app automatically crashes and I had to start all over again and unfortunately this happens  everytime ! For your information, this happens only on my Samsung Galaxy Grand (of 1GB RAM) but the app works smoothly on my Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge (of 3GB RAM)! So, does it depend on phone's RAM when transaction volume of the wallet reaches more than 100? Please try to address this issue because it'll be a major drawback for budget level smartphone users!

This is a known issue we are working to resolve it: when the wallet receives transactions from faucets or mining pools, they tend to be hundreds of kilobytes to pay many users at once. Unfortunately this overwhelms the wallet that keeps all the transactions in memory.

In the mean time it is possible to use BIP44 compatible wallets with your recovery phrase.

Hi all,

First of all, I have to apologize, I don't follow bitcointalk often but will try to come here more often!

So about your tech questions:

Does Coinami support POS only Coins? I notice that BlackCoin is a part of Coinami but if able to integrate a POS only Coin, will it Stake?

What kind of server setup is needed for trusted nodes?

Do you offer support for setup and integration for payment in btc?

How do upgrades and potential hardforks come into play?

Coinomi can support POS coins but it cannot stake. The reason is that to verify that a block signer can actually sign the block it needs the full UTXO set that can be several MB in size. One solution is for the POS coins to create delegate keys for the actual staking (but not spending) and leave the master keys in the lightweight wallet.

The trusted servers are plain electrum servers in some cases modified a bit to support each coin.

For the payed integration you can send us to support at coinomi.com.

The hardforks are tricky business because we need to manually update the underlying peer-to-peer node. Fortunately the forks are rare (except in Dash) and the developers usually inform us about it.

what's the criteria for new coins? how do you add them?

If it has a good community and market cap we will probably add it ourselves (for non-BTC clones it will take more time). For very small coins, the developers usually create pull requests and host their own electrum servers. Most of the time I personally redesign the icon of the coin to match the existing style of the application. Read here for more info.

Is there a downloadable version of this that doesn't use Github?  I can't compile codes at all, and would be really nice to use a wallet like this.

You don't have to. The link that leads to github has a downloadable APK usually named as coinomi-vX.Y.Z.apk

I've been having trouble sending BTC (other alt. coins work) the last couple days. Keep getting "error broadcasting transaction" prompt. Is it the wallet? malleable attack on the Blockchain? Any info is appreciated!

Brian

**update: I did a recovery, lost 0.012 BTC in the process, but it works now... I'll be sticking to my Blockchain wallet to store some BTC on my phone from now on. Not cool!**

any chance this wallet is available for a Windows PC?

the "real-time value" for CannabisCoin seems to be wrong (no I'm not high  Wink )

Brian, you should not have lost those coins because they are accessed with your recovery phrase. I think that when you created your wallet you enabled BIP39 passphrase on your recovery phrase and when restoring didn't input it so the wallet was empty. The "error broadcasting transaction" could be caused by a bug. Could you send us to support at coinomi.com to try to debug this issue?

Yes, we would like to release a desktop version once we get more traction!

Regarding the rate, it is not realtime but exponentially smoothed i.e. averaged. This has the effect of the price lagging from the real-time rate but it will not erratically jump up & down if the exchange has a big spread.

I think Coinomi is experiencing a problem regarding syncing of Bitcoin transactions! The new transactions aren't being shown on the app still after doing several refreshes. While I can see it on Blockchain easily on searching my wallets extended public key (xpub). OP, please fix this issue as soon as possible since it becomes hectic to check for newer transactions via Blockchain! Then what's the use of this app right ?! BTW, I'm not experiencing this problem with altcoins!

Same here. Completely stuck... Sometimes the wallet shows "0" for my balance, sometimes the proper balance but then the app is totally frozen... Quite scary... Too bad, as it was a nice app. Hope it will be solved soon.

Do you still have this problem? Could you send us a message to support at coinomi.com to debug this issue?

If you have backed up your recovery phrase (and if enabled, your BIP39 passphrase) your coins are completely safe because your addresses are generated deterministically from it.

Thank you all for your comments and ideas.

Sincerely,

John L. Jegutanis

@scarsbergholden you don't need to compile an APK for the PlayStore, only for your own testing. You should make a pull request to the Coinomi repository. Read more about adding a new coin here https://coinomi.com/AddingSupportForANewCurrency/

Restored my wallet and lost 2200 DGC.  I've sent an email and have yet to hear anything back.

I would recommend not using this application until they can prove that it can be reliable.

I used the long string of codes and the wallet passphrase to restore it as well and I'm sitting at a 0 balance.

I've restored the wallet more than once without any problems.
Did you selected "My recovery phrase is password protected" correctly to match what you set when creating the wallet?
You should try both with that option checked and unchecked if you're unsure.

Yeah, I appreciate the help.  But I've done that and just tried again to make sure.  I've tried every which way possible and my DGC is all gone now.

Okay, something I didn't try.  But decided to give it a shot.  I just sent 2200 DGC to myself with a 0 balance and now it shows up.  Could be a bug they should look into perhaps?? Anyways, got my DGC balance back, so I'm a happy camper again.  However.  I'm moving the DGC to another client, I just think there are personally too many issues with the wallet for my liking.

Thanks for reporting and sorry about the stress this strange bug caused. I will try to look at it as soon as possible.

One suggestion: I'd really like to be able to sign arbitrary messages with my Coinomi addresses. Verifying would be nice too.
Would you consider adding that in the future?

Yes, gradually we will add more features like those but there isn't a time frame yet.

Check out a lightweight multi-coin wallet I am building, it's called Coinomi. It's unique feature is that it uses Hierarchical Deterministic keychain and that means that the private keys stay on our devices not in a centralized server or cold storage. All your coins in a single seed!

Please check it out and maybe support our decentralized campaign to add new coins!
