As for the biggest fraud, my vote is for SheepMarketplace, no competition here.
2  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency - 0.8.8.6 on: February 04, 2015, 02:40:30 PM
Someone opened XDN games shop - http://xdngames.allalla.com/. I've sent them a request to add XMR as an option too. (had to send it via order form since there is no contact) Can you guys support me on this one? Smiley
3  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XDN] DarkNote [ANN]. duck goes Dark. on: September 19, 2014, 07:34:35 PM
Is it still the same CryptoNote that the other currencies are using? Have you updated the protocol? Are the messages stored in the blockchain?

What the heck is going on with the price?
5  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: The Best Digital Currency on: September 16, 2014, 11:36:23 AM
The position of Bitcoin is  undoubted, however, other digital currency also own potential to be the best one. There is no sign that the best one is not best ones.

The anonymous transactions feature is currently the next best thing and there's no technology that can provide it better than CryptoNote. I think CN based coins are potential winners in the long run.
6  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency (mandatory upgrade) on: September 14, 2014, 04:36:53 PM
I just read that Coinbase is declining transactions from Tor users. This isn't surprising, and just another example of the steady and relentless capture of the Bitcoin space by governments and regulators. It is pretty obvious to me that Monero (and other privacy enhancing coins) will become illegal in most places, and governments will try to prevent the transfer of funds between Monero and the legal economy. I guess it will be pretty easy for them to block fiat transfer, either in exchanges or in something like localmonero. It also seems plausible that pure crypro exchanges will be regulated, and prevent trade in privacy coins.
I'm not writing this as FUD or pointless rant, I'm a developer and have some free time, and would really like to hear any ideas on how can we mitigate this probable future..

Everyone will just use bitcoin with massive mixing when they buy monero. Worse case scinario is that we have to use darknet exchanges or exchanges that are censorship resistant by virtue of being sufficiently decentralized. It could push exchanges in general in a very positive direction. Remember when they government makes something illegal they dont get rid of it, they just raise the price. Sure they can spend huge amounts of money to locate the take down darknet exchange servers and operators, but just like the silkroad 2.0 another one will just spring up. And so long as there is demand this will continue to happen. If they do it enough times than it will cause the price of trading to rise. But thats really the best they will ever be able to do.

TLDR: if you are worried about monero going away because the government made it illegal, see how *insert illicit substance of choice here* went away when they made that illegal.

If governments outlaw Monero and other anons forcing them to go underground that would affect the user base drastically. If Monero's aiming for mass-adoption it would have to cut a deal with the regulators sooner or later.

I'm not sure if you guys noticed but you can withdraw XMR from Poloniex directly to your bank card, check the announcement at the Poloniex homepage. You have to buy XUSD and withdraw it through Coinomat.com

The fees are hideous, but it's a cool service and idea.

That's a rip-off! I'd rather use my wallet.

Of all the coins that have come and gone through the years, Monero really stands out. The community, devs, promising new tech, rapid progress - everything is very impressive with this coin.
I feel like we're in the midst of something very special and very important. This is something I haven't seen or felt since the earlier bitcoin days.
That's exactly! But Developers can't  make a wallet properly, I tired to deal with it!  Sad

Exactly! I'm looking forward to having one.

Well we do work for free, we're not a company, so check back in ~12 months:-P

Maybe we should all get together and start a little fund that will finance all the work needed to build a nice GUI. How is that?

When the 0.1 fee will be fixed ?

When we replace it with per-kb fees.

Just please make the fees high enough that the blockchain is not sold out too cheaply. It is possible to lower them when the price rises. The recent decision to up them by 20x did not lead to price crashing.

By the way, when the transacation fees will get back to normal?

At this point the attack has been handled with neither a persistent fork nor a roll-back.  Well done.

What are the chances for a recurrent attack?

New accounts have warned quite much about it. The Monero devs do their best to prevent attacks, and C_Z is helping also. The community has also shown that even a technically successful attack (fork did happen) does not cause the loss of trust (price trend did not change).

In the long term, we are open to pursue a diplomatic solution to this conflict and I can be a diplomatic middleman if so desired.

I wonder who was the first to provide the solution? CN devs seemed to come up with the solution somewhat faster. Although, if you think about it, it doesn't really matter who was the first. All I'm worried about is what if the next attack will be more sophisticated than the previous. That blockchain split was pretty scary I must say. Turns out Monero has some crafty rivals.

I'm have a problem with sync.

Seem to be stuck on 202656 so wrong fork i guess. Cry

I have deleted the 'blockchain.bin', downloaded one from 30 odd days ago (from the OP of this topic) and allowed everything to catch up. However, it is still stuck on 202656.

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

+1 I need to get it fixed asap
13  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How will we stop the evil free market Chinese? on: August 28, 2014, 08:42:20 AM
What's going to happen to all that hardware when every block has been found?
Are the processors too specific to to anything else?, or will we see some interesting projects that create new algorithms to make use of all that running infrastructure?

If the 1mil per month figure was accurate, they'd need a pretty profitable gambit to keep the infrastructure going. I'd imagine they'll sell what they can at bulk rate, or it'll be outdated enough at that point they just sell it for scrap.

Gonna blow 1BTC there.
15  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why Do People Believe Bitcoin Will Replace Fiat? on: August 28, 2014, 08:40:55 AM
There will certainly be a period where they will coexist for a time. This transitionary period could possibly be quite lengthy. But in the end, there will simply be no competing against a deflationary currency. When you throw a deflationary currency among inflationary currencies, it starts acting as a black hole absorbing all the wealth in the world. This doesn't even take into account that bitcoin is more than a currency and cannot be seen in just this light.

Yeap my thoughts exactly too

Name here Satoshi Bitcoin? Please dont....
17  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why people price things in fiat but want BTC - choose one or the other on: August 28, 2014, 08:38:03 AM
You don't understand. Bitcoin isn't strictly a currency, it's also a payment system ...and much more.
18  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: St. Petersburg Welcomes BitPay on: August 28, 2014, 08:37:14 AM
Dear BitPay. Destroy Coinbase.
Thanks.

Nah man. Competition is good. It's bad to have a single point of failure.
19  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Coinbase Insured on: August 28, 2014, 08:35:10 AM
wonder if by "online storage" they mean the percentage they keep available to trade (didn't they say this is like 3% or something?), or their cold storage wallets.

Isn't this a scaled down version of Open Transactions that can't do microtransactions or ensure the safety of deposits with voting pools?

It also - as I understand - allows users to trade over 75,000 tickers of securities in ALL major asset classes and vehicles in ALL major exchanges throughout the world
