1  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin slowly loosing its popularity? on: July 30, 2014, 12:41:55 PM
thoughts?

Well is it? I don't see the volume across the exchanges going down. The number of wallets isn't going down or stagnating. Merchants aren't pulling back. Everyone's just freaking out due to the nonexistant bubble. And traders with leveraged longs are starting to panic.

Yeah quite, no ones getting out en masse - and panic is good if anything, means people are at least still interested(!) and there's no reason to realistically expect a disastrous collapse blah blah.. if anyone suspects a loss of interest it's down to psychology - after a while, we all lose perspective of how significant something actually is i guess. BTC health definitely fine.
2  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Block Explorer for the CryptoNote coins on: July 30, 2014, 12:14:38 PM
this, this is outrageous. even got the latest ones like moneta in there already, kudos to you sir! Just shows what serious skills are supporting cn technology, no joke. awesome stuff..
3  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [BCN] Bytecoin (CPU-mining, true anonymity) on: July 30, 2014, 11:54:17 AM
Hey everyone,

The updated blockchain is available for download from https://bytecoin.org/downloads
I've also chatted with the devs, there will be be huge events soon. You may be even able to ask them yourselves Wink

I'm still on vacation till Sunday, so don't miss me much!

It sounds very mysterious!

Yep, is this huge event somehow apocalyptic?
4  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [FCN] Fantomcoin. CN based, anonymous. Merge mine with BCN, XMR, QCN, duck. on: July 30, 2014, 11:36:17 AM
Fantomcoin forked off the same Bytecoin code as other CN coins, I can't imagine it's so perfect it doesn't need fixes applied to it just like other CN coins apply them Smiley

You'd have thought the dev would've learnt from the mistakes of previous coins though, I wonder what's going on behind the scenes here really.

This coin is too legit. I cant get whyyy its so fucking low in price.

that's just it, CN tech is as valuable as it ever was surely?
5  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [FCN] Fantomcoin. CN based, anonymous. Merge mine with BCN, XMR, QCN, duck. on: July 29, 2014, 08:47:34 AM
Any announcements coming up? this thread is seeming pretty slow lately...

agreed, jonesing for some developments round here! there's been a (strangely named) other cryptonite tech launched but haven't heard anything from cnote coins themselves for a while!
6  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: So Apple is letting Bitcoin back in. on: July 29, 2014, 08:22:16 AM

Technology evolves over time and now there is CryptoNote Technology with its ring signature and private keys which make transactions even more anonymous. Indeed, BCN became more friendly to new users as gui wallet has appeared.

Do you know there is "Cryptonite XCN is the new software for completely anonymous and untraceable transactions" ??

That looks pretty cool, glad to see stuff actually getting out there and being developed.... just dont get the name exactly, why cause potential confusion, even if cryptonite is just a preliminary name?
8  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [BCN] Bytecoin (CPU-mining, true anonymity) on: July 28, 2014, 12:12:57 PM
Well, Bytecoin is close to be added to hitbtc - https://hitbtc.com/vote

Did I get it right, if there is two ways to secure a place on hitbtc:
1) to be the currency with the highest number of votes (no it's impossible to vote for the coin)
2) to get 2 or more Market Makers. Who are that market makers?

Wow, I've forgotten about hitbtc. I don't know who exactly are market makers, but here is what I've found - https://hitbtc.com/mm
According to this info MM are members who signed market-maker contract and you must pay for the contract and to get some privileges.

Haha... just clicked that "become a market maker" thing, right? Well, that was easy.
You guys make such a big deal out of everything.

I clicked that and when I saw several conditions for market makers

Interesting, and you can name your own terms as well right? Anyone had any luck with that?
9  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: A currency with no transaction fees vs a currency with no volatility on: July 25, 2014, 08:34:57 AM
We're already getting some boundary-pushing with transaction fees (I'm mostly referring to bitcoin here) with consumer-oriented moneymaking schemes like ATMs - some of them have a 7% commission going on, which is grim to see. So i hope that the future of crypto doesn't mean mass adoption being at the expense (literally) of the tiny fees which are currently its main selling point. No good having volatility AND fees like that being dished out!

7% commission isn't the transaction fee, that's a service charge, and that will go down if/when there is competition.

Yeah true not the currency trans fee, though it ends up all being part of using the actual currency if it goes big. but still such charges are erroneous imo, I'd hope competition decreases them to almost nothing.
10  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: How to Create a Coin the Noob Way on: July 25, 2014, 08:23:40 AM
Coins are here for bring innovation, and there is no innovation in changing some parameters and make an altcoin just for changing values - or even worse, by inputing some values in a site and pooping a new coin.

Most altcoins are dead or dying because people started to realize that, even Litecoin is dying, why do you think that your newly created copy-coin will survive? The profit time for pump and dump copy-scam coin creators is over.

You are pretending there is no group of 2-10 friends out there that wants a coin just for them that might get big one day.

You don't think the coingen tag will prevent it from getting big anyway? It's like websites with "weebly" in the url lol.. just has such a stigma, whether warranted or not can't change anything sadly, in my opinion..

12  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Monero (MRO) Speculation thread on: July 25, 2014, 07:24:20 AM
I'm kinda curious about the effect the potential "flaw in difficulty rate" would affect the price if it turns out to be an issue? (or even true, of course) - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=709197.0

I reckon any dip would be rather short-term as there's for sure enough energy coming from the devs to deal with any kinks..
13  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: ducknote vs monero - what does the future hold? on: July 24, 2014, 08:00:35 AM
There are only 4 coins that I currently mine for, and all of them can be easily mined for using the mining Minegate(minergate.com).

MonetaVerde, Bytecoin, Ducknote, and Monero. Menero is today winner, for I'm mining for it right now. It's a toss up between Bytecoin, ducknote, and Monero. Currently I have 0.0066 btc value through Ducknote. 0.0013 btc value through Bytecoin.

I only choose MonetaVerde Coin base on it's newest, and the amount of coins I can get from it. Right now it's the same end value as FantomCoin.. but as I write this post the values are very so changing, I can't seem to keep up.

But you can't go wrong with mining for the 4 coins. They put me back to the level of bitcoin mining I use to be when I first started mining for bitcoin.

Very interesting, I may give that a go actually.

Ducknote is a joke compared to Monero.

Could you explain more?
14  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 51% Attack - Why isn't anything being done about it? on: July 23, 2014, 01:39:22 PM
Why does everyone think that anyone could pull this off if they had the sufficient hashrate?
Do you think that there is a walk though that one can follow for pulling off an attack like this?  Roll Eyes

Exactly!
15  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 51% Attack - Why isn't anything being done about it? on: July 23, 2014, 01:30:51 PM
Perhaps the reason this wouldn't happen is because there's nothing in wrecking bitcoin for the super rich? 50million to do it maybe, but in destroying bitcoin's credibility, there'll be no value resulting from any dastardly deeds I'm pretty sure.

What if the obvious and financially strong enemies of Bitcoin (Banks, PayPal and likewise) do a 51% attack to save their own ass? They sure have got a hell to win if BTC loses credibility.

Would this not require some serious infiltration on the part of those entities? I'm really not sure how it could ever be orchestrated, let alone with the sheer number of nodes necessary to overpower the network before the others realise what's going on. And even if it does happen, that's some serious money laundering and probably wouldn't go unnoticed in court!
16  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: whats going on with dogecoin value? on: July 23, 2014, 01:24:47 PM
will it worth 1 satoshi in the end?

no

it will be worth 0

Well everything will be worth 0 in the end Wink I doubt doge's going away, you gotta expect some lacklustre episodes here and there it's only rational.
17  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: ducknote vs monero - what does the future hold? on: July 23, 2014, 01:15:16 PM
does not matter about the future of any Cnote coin now, as the multipool rape is in the works and soon enough it will be game over and will follow the same paths as all the other algos. raped and dumped daily.

I wasn't aware that it was game over for all other algos already - many are doing fine (and have been around longer than 5 minutes). At any rate, the technology behind these two coins i don't think will just die because of whatever fluctuations are seen in its currencies in the short term.
18  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 51% Attack - Why isn't anything being done about it? on: July 23, 2014, 11:18:32 AM
This threat seems very, very likely at some point. The cost of an attack wouldn't actually be that much to pull off. Even a short term (i.e. much cheaper) attack could completely destabilize the faith people have in Bitcoin.

Are we just waiting for an attack to occur before actually doing anything?

An attacker that isn't motivated by money will eventually attempt an attack. This isn't an "if", it's a "when".

Some billionaire, inherited wealth rich kid could completely devastate Bitcoin for under $50 Million.

Some people love to wreck shit. Rich guys that love to wreck shit? It could get ugly.

Somebody console me. I want to be wrong. What am I overlooking?

Perhaps the reason this wouldn't happen is because there's nothing in wrecking bitcoin for the super rich? 50million to do it maybe, but in destroying bitcoin's credibility, there'll be no value resulting from any dastardly deeds I'm pretty sure.
19  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [Poll] What anonymous coin will succed? on: July 23, 2014, 10:33:37 AM
What do people think about ducknotes chances? and cryptonote technology in general?
20  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: ducknote vs monero - what does the future hold? on: July 23, 2014, 09:58:53 AM
I think I've heard/read the name Ducknote once and Monero is so far the number 1 Cryptonote coin out there.

So I would say Monero for now, the coin has a great community, great devs, no premine/instamine, good distribution and quite a lot of haters here as you might have seen in this subforum.

It's already pretty popular even without an official GUI wallet and therefore hard to use for the average Joe. A lot of haters talk about the blockchain bloat but in my opinion it isn't a big issue because it simply isn't, also in the future people will use light wallets anyways.

And IIRC blockchain bloat is already reduced quite a lot and will be reduced more in the near future.

Yeah i've seen a lot from the monero community (both good and bad but in general enthusiasm) - I think this alone ensures there's momentum enough to iron out any sticking points like the bloat. Plus as you say, a bloat is not like a 100% premine, so not point in worrying about it fundamentally.

As for ducknote, it's interesting you haven't heard anything much about it - the community seems pretty enthusiastic too, not to mention somewhat better natured in discussions here than some posters in the monero threads. I've compared the spec from ducknote and monero, but arrived at the conclusion that each is pretty stable long-term... am I missing something do you think?

Any ducknote community members able to comment too?
