As a small investor there are only two coins in this Alt world PnD madness that long term really interest me.
The pace of development with XC is unrivalled that's what drew me.

I think marketing could be brushed up but on the whole i ask myself, what is better than XC  Smiley

From yesterday till now 5 pages were filled with mostly NEM cap discussion.
Yes and some of it is FUD what do you expect? i have no opinion on cap subject so will not participate as makes no difference. Keep leading from the front your doing a fantastic work.

A BIG BIG thank to excellent decision over the unclaimed stakes thing, that was not pointlessly discussed.
It shows NEM Devs listens to the community and react accordingly. This shows NEM in good light.

Everyone should take a moment to breath some oxygen and calm down. There is a tinge of frustration brewing in the air. Noone said dealing with all concerns of a community with decentralized views is easy. Is this not a main factor in making NEM great.

Is there a clear date set for Beta? thanks in advance.

Things that make you go hmmm... this has been brought up several times and yes there is a plan for this

Glad to hear you say that! It would be pretty badass to have something in XC wallet where we could send btc to get mixed anonymously for a fee. A feature like this would be huge and XC is in the perfect place to be able to make it happen. hmmmm is very right....

Maybe I'm missing something but why would someone be enticed to buy XC if they can make use of XC's anonymous technology without having to buy/use XC?

Because XC nodes get the revenue.

And because everyone gets to see XC's tech winning (and therefore they start to use/buy XC).

(After all, why pay a Blocknet fee when you can avoid it by just using XC?)

Xmixers need a large userbase.

XC's market needs large volume.

XChat becomes more practical when everyone uses it.

ATMs integrate XC when lots of people want it.

BitPay et al. will be interested in XC as the leading Blocknet coin.

I can go on...

The Blocknet is the biggest thing to happen to XC, ever.

I think trustless mixing of BTC using XC's tech could be pretty awesome though too!!
Think bigger, complete Anonymous trustless tx for all coins with XC at the core.

Due to a recently-discovered flaw in the TLS and SSL protocols, you may want to change your password, especially if you accessed the forum using Tor.

Please just do it. But also don't forget that new password.
Don't make me have to deal with more stolen accounts cuz I'm tired. So tired.

Patmast3r you have been hard at it since start of NEM. A corner stone rock at the foundation.
no persons would begrudge you of taking some time off to recharge those batteries  Smiley

You can also just buy a phone via China and then it will be way cheaper.

www.fastcardtech.com for example.

Yes, instead of being spied on by the NSA it would probably make a nice change to be spied on by the Chinese instead. Tbh, you're probably less likely to be doing anything that they are interested in anyway.

Thanks for your answer nem really has a fantastic liberal community and i am proud to be a member.
X currency has some fantastic devs also. is it ok by you is i comment on the news about dev news there to?

yup as long as its actual news that people might want to know and not straight up pumping. Lol
Thats most kind im not pumping xc there is no need  Grin but the latest thing seems collaboration between devs and that can only be good.

As i said nem is ultra liberal and you can talk all day long over and over about other coins and it's ok.
sadly that is not the case with other coins, it would be considered fud and trolling.

Nem is very very special  Smiley

actually he is. He said he would finish the things he said he would and then he is going full time on jinn

From what I have read anyway

Well, there are quite a few things that he promised to finish, so it's likely he'll stick around for a year or two, considering Jinn is connected to NXT per his words.
ya true.. Could be more I guess. I'm sure if or when he leaves he will hand over many of his ideas and as much knowledge as possible. There are plenty of other very capable devs working on nxt...
Are there plentiful capable devs working on nem?
This news concerning a dev , how does this affect nem if so why? if not are you posting in the wrong thread?

Do you really think Chinese don't know about Vpn's? Cmon guys...
About hacked, stolen & lost accounts, really this is getting boring...i start to think this is just some bs to get some free stakes.
Anyway if You lost your account it's your fault. Devs should focus on more important stuff!
How can somebody get a free stake ? The only way right now is to buy one AE as some have.
Vpns do these reside in the country of origin and used to magically bypass enforcement.

How many fringe routers would it take to control internet access to China. 10000 5000 1000 50 or less than 25 that is a question.

Devs are working and pretty fast. If they are a team of only 2 they are working faster than other teams.. i dont want to say which ones because i dont think it will help to grow NODE to spread fud on other coins like some people here does. Anyway guys.. with your fud i dont think u can make more people panic sell.. Holders now are kind of old users.. you can't fool them with so cheap negative arguments. More considering they already gave an eta and is known list of bounties will be published soon.

Anyway i have to thank trolls because I think is good this happens because NODE get rid of weak hands at really low prices. Or do u think that nxt would have grown so big if it was held by 1000 users (many newbies and desperate for 50 dolars) and not 21?
Agreed its now a question of supply and demand.
Bounties will help but lets not expect rapid increases at this point in time.
No need to say buyers can only buy x if seller sells at x HOLD

Hello everyone,
I realize people want to buy/sell. Please use a trusted Escrow service for any Buy/Sells.
I want to explain why we selected Java/JavaScript, etc... for the architecture, etc...
It is a very portable language and the architecture has been around for a while.
Our main focus is a local SPV decentralized wallet which will be the base for many platforms.
Decentralized trading/acquisitions will also be a focus to add value to the network.

Our local wallet will be easily extendible to IoT (Internet of Things) devices that also communicate via radio/wifi.
We look forward to illustrating the roadmap that will extend the functionality of the most secure blockchain in the world without bloating it, bitcoin.

We hope that most people understand the future vision of where we are going.
We will be the first crypto-token that enables IoT devices to accept micro-payments denominated in bitcoin.
We have only just begun.

Regards,
ASIC-8Tile

IBM Executive Highlights Block Chain’s Utility for Internet of Things

Precisely what the so-called “Internet of Things” will look like five or ten years from now is difficult to say, but it’s not out of the question that a block chain may be behind some of the next-generation technologies that companies like IBM are developing in order to build what may also be called the connected economy.

Regardless of the phrase or buzzword, the concept envisions a world in which all devices, places and people are interconnected networks, sharing data and information at lightning speeds among one another. Mobile devices, smart appliances, vehicles, even homes – the Internet of Things may come to be known as the Internet of everything in certain areas of the world decades from now.

How does the block chain – the underlying distributed ledger of the Bitcoin protocol – fit into the Internet of Things? Some see the block chain acting as the spine for a distributed network of devices, with each device acting as a miner of sorts to transmit data between all the points on the network. For IBM, which is developing its a proof-of-concept called Adept, the block chain holds the key to creating a feasible and functioning distributed network.

Paul Brody, IBM vice president and North American leader for mobile and Internet of Things, told CoinDesk in a new interview that there are companies and organizations all over the world that have a real need to be able to connect devices or appliances in order to gather data. He gave an example of a health organization that used sensors placed on faucets to track hand washing rates in order to develop future policies.

Yet the cost of maintaining this type of framework makes it expensive and impractical for broad deployment. Brody said that IBM began to look at other solutions that were both more cost-effective and secure. He cited security as a necessity, given the risks associated with large-scale central data control, particularly if that information is sensitive or financial-related.

Brody told CoinDesk:

“When we looked at those requirements and started talking to people and researching and looking at the marketplace, we saw the block chain as this potentially really powerful solution to this business problem.”

Distributed future

The quest to create a distributed network of devices capable of communicating with each other reliably is decades old. The Byzantine generals problem, in which a spread-out army is unable to trust its corp of separate generals given the risk of sabotage, lies at the heart of why, for many years, computing has operated around centralized structures.

Brody said the block chain solves these problems by creating an environment in which only a majority (rather than all) of the nodes have to be trusted. He predicted that its ability to create large, low-cost networks will make the block chain in high demand as a technology backbone.

“I think that demand for the block chain technology, the programmable ledger, autonomous distributed systems is going to be colossal,” he said.

Self-regulation and maintenance is another big draw of the block chain from IBM’s perspective. Brody said the block chain can eliminate nearly all the costs of running a centralized device network structure:

“As devices become smarter and smarter, why shouldn’t they be able to manage themselves? The block chain allows you to run a totally distributed platform. And by our calculation, if you use the block chain, you can cut the cost of managing a high volume device network by 99%.”

Brody said that the secretive block chain project IBM is working on with Samsung is affording the two companies a deep look into exactly how this technology might work in a real-world setting. He declined to give further details, but told CoinDesk that the goal remains to have a demonstrable proof-of-concept sometime next year.

Welcome to the block chain house

Brody said that it’s too early to say what the practical characteristics a block chain-powered network of devices might have, but he did give a glimpse into some of the conceptual ideas IBM is playing with.

He said that smart contracts or programmed transactions could be used to interact with home appliances or even to enter the residence in the first place. A smart watch may contain smart contract triggers that detect a beacon placed in the doorway that triggers the latch and opens it once the micro transaction from the watch is received on the home’s block chain.

Brody explained:

“My smartwatch has to have a transaction contract with my door to unlock it. That transaction has to be broadcast in the block chain so that all the devices in my block chain, that I own, recognize me and allow my watch to unlock any doors.”

One problem, he continued, lies in the speed of transactions. A homeowner wouldn’t want to wait five minutes in order to unlock their door or turn on a light every time they come and go. Brody said that one solution IBM could use involves programming a home’s “family of devices” to remember the source of a smart contract.

Making the Internet smarter

Brody said repeatedly that the goal is to build a smarter network of devices that are capable of sharing energy and bandwidth, making decisions and squeezing every ounce of efficiency out of themselves during operation.

He explained:

“Transaction processing is the foundational workload of all modern computing. Tweets, likes, airline reservations, utility bills — they’re all transactions. On the block foundation level, we can do more than just infrastructure, we can write applications.”

From there, one can create autonomous systems that operate in tandem, capable of making collective decisions based on an operational need. Using a washing machine as an example, he said that smart appliances can receive data from an outside source and adjust their power consumption or change their settings in order to be more efficient.

Brody added that it’s feasible that hundreds of billions of devices could one day be connected on a single block chain or network of block chains, all of which communicate with each other via automated transactions. He envisioned an ecosystem of both centralized and decentralized systems based on security needs, but ultimately, pushing automated system intelligence to new heights.

Is there a direct connection with this coin?

yes man. maybe Tilecoin will become the first IOT coin, and this will be huge.

check this from dev:

Our local wallet will be easily extendible to IoT (Internet if Things) devices that also communicate via radio/wifi.
We look forward to illustrating the roadmap that will extend the functionality of the most secure blockchain in the world without bloating it, bitcoin.

also IBM and SAMSUNG want to research the possibility on how to integrate IOT(Internet of Things)With Crypto blockchain Technology.
AS far as i know, Tilecoin is the first coin has IOT Concept.
also maybe Dev team can work with IBM and Samsung experts together to bridge the gap between IOT and blockchain technology.
if this happen, then this will be huge.
As huge as MaidSafe?
Hopefully bigger.

@void

If you knew there was a 1000 dollars sitting waiting for you would you not invest 5 dollars to set up a vpn to get past the fire wall or pay an it guy to do it for you or find a way somehow?
Apologies @ Kodtycoon if i new you were on the A list of Marketers-volunteers i would not have accused you of sounding like a banker.

Does any one have the link to when the original discussion regarding unclaimed stakes took place.
There is a considerable amount of info to sift through before i conclude to invest more or not.

The one thing the niggles me is the staggering amount of unclaimed stakes. I tend to think these belong to Chinese accounts. It was decided by the owners of nem that i month was it so i suppose thats it then.

A major irritant is what happens to those stakes now that we know the scale of the problem.
Is this open for discussion or has it been decided behind closed doors.
What i am trying to say is. The owners already have a reasonable amount of stakes for there work and on going work. They also have the sockpuppet stakes and all these unclaimed stakes coming.

Imagine offering a new shito coin to a community and saying " there maybe a pre mine of around
30/40/50 % or so but dont fret it will all be used to make shito coin fantastic" Dont think there would be a long line of eager investors.

This sounds more appealing

Completely Fair Distribution - Equal Shares for ALL
No arbitrary distribution. Decentralized. The most egalitarian coin. Show your love to NEM.

There is no blame for this situation and Nemsters should be proud of the success achieved to date.
But it may appear to some that the lions share of wealth seems to be centralized.

15  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM Official Thread - Beta is almost here[Updates & Discussion] on: October 10, 2014, 07:24:16 PM
Forgive me if this has been answered before, but have we gotten any farther than token registration yet?

Also, my vote would be to hold the unclaimed stakes indefinitely. They belong to whoever bought them in the first place.

+1

holding the coins indefinitely is madness in my mind.. anyone who takes more than a month to claim ether doesnt care about nem in the slightest or hasnt bothered their ass to find away around any blocks that might be in place stopping them from claiming. now if these people who dont care find out months down the line that they can claim their nem as its worth say 5 thousand.. the first thing they will do is claim and then dump it asap. if they dont care about it enough to claim it why would they hold it once they do claim it? so these people are of zero benefit to nem. now lets think if these coins are distributed to people who do care, they will benefit nem, if they are used to help nem progress by investing the money in development or marketing that will benefit nem hugely.

not only that but if say 400-500 stakes are held in limbo then that will be knocked off the market cap because of CMC's new rules. not only that but there will be claims that the devs are keeping them for themselves instead of distributing them. then there is also the risk that the coins being held in one massive account get lost for what ever reason and then the devs would be accused of stealing them and there is no coming back from that. then there will also be fears that if the devs hold that many, they could get bored with nem and decide to just dump all the coins and run with the money, i dont believe that will happen but thats where fud comes from.

there are far more downsides to holding all the unclaimed indefinitely than there are pro's. i would agree to hold say, 50 stakes for 6 months so 50 people have the opportunity to claim with in 6 months on a first come first serve basis but any more than that would be stupid.

putting the coins to use in various ways like funding development, mass marketing like no crypto has ever seen, bounties galore that sort of thing will turn nem into a serious challenger to bitcoin. we have to throw everything we have at this and we only get one chance to do it right and imo holding hundreds of stakes in an idle account for months or years is probably up there with the worst of things we could do with the coins and probably the riskiest of routes to take also.

imagine what nem would be worth if we pumped out business rules, asset exchange, voting system, a digital market place(a far better one than nxt) and all the other major core features in 6 months which i think could be done if more devs were to come on board on top of the 5, super devs, we already have. now imagine if we could release a killer mobile app on top of that in a couple of months, fund all sorts of business that pop up around nem in order to thrust nem into astronomical growth over a 12 month period the likes no crypto has seen before, fund a full time marketing team to spread the word, do all sorts of things to spread nem to the masses like a stellar style give away? the possibilities are endless but we have to take the bull by the horns as rockethead says.

being nice(holding peoples stakes indefinitely) gets people no where in life or in business. in business, which is what this is, you have to be ruthless and do what you have to succeed.

again, we have one good shot at this, so are we going to be nice to those who dont benefit nem and are not bothered about nem, or are we going forget about that/those that do not matter to run head first with what we have and throw everything we got at this and in order to succeed?
who are you to say those fucked over by the commy firewall dont care and this 1 fucking month is it.
Is this a buisness to you or a movement.
You sound like a commy banker .

I would create a random password as a key for the account and send them the password by bitcointalk. This way management can close distribution.
If they don't take it, its like destroying. And if they realize after a year, that they have a lot of money there, its nice.

Unless the owner of bitcointalk decides to steal all unclaimed coins an year later, and no one will know, as the coins will  be unclaimed.

Naysayer. He had time enough and he will risk his reputation then as well, as any of the stakeholders can get the coins at any time...
Agreed the owner of bitcointalks reputation is worth a shit load more than say few hundred BTC
those behind the China firewall bought, invested, aka volunteered with nem.

Nem in solidarity, is this for the many or for the few.

17  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM Official Thread - Beta is almost here[Updates & Discussion] on: October 10, 2014, 05:01:38 PM
This whole unclaimed stake nonsense, why can't they just be held for people. At least a year.

Agreed. They should be encrypted and held forever. Just seems like the right thing to do. It is owned by that person and no one should be able to decide what to do with their property and make up the rules as we go along... (Adding a deadline after the fact...)

And who knows if NEM really became massive then it would be great publicity some guy remembering he had a stake years later and becomes a millionaire.

The source of the issue might be some Chinese users who are unable to use Bitcointalk as it's been blocked in China. In fact it's very likely considering the numbers of a Chinese that use this forum.

Agreed

There is a know big problem that the Chinese are blocking bitcointalk.
Imagine how you would feel if down the line your stake was terminated because of this.

are all decisions made by the Developers as per say usual or was the fact that all members would have a say.
Will there be a vote on this delicate matter.

The devs are hardcore Java/Javascript. The have perused NXT because that is one of the coins we would like to integrate with depending on the community view.
We are also going to have libraries available so that other coins can integrate our coin.

We have integrated Localization, Gradle, Continuous Integration (http://jenkins-ci.org/) with a very modular approach so that multiple developers can work on the base with little to no refactoring like some other projects. The architecture was my main focus for the app.

Hello,

More than than likely been gone over but

Is the name going to stay as xcurrency ? for mass marketing

It's fine by me but was thinking along the lines,

bitcoin = bit coiners

I could name a few coins where members of a movement have a name they consider themselves.

Short side is Xcurrency just a currency platform to invest / use.

The stuff under the bonnet is impressive kinda reminds me XCP though  and the opposite would be Doge.

Thanks in advance
