the best thing i can recommend is wait for the latest client with the added nodes
2  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ixcoin TODO on: January 04, 2015, 01:44:20 AM
the only thing which might be an issue is the lack of UPNP although im not 100% sure on that one

0.9.3 is COMPLETE. As i stated earlier it has been for some time (In the time since its been done ive even hard forked DGC to V3 from the original V2 code) which shows the time since its been done. If @Frictionless you do plan on doing it. I must insist that you start ASAP. Once v0.10 launches i plan on upgrading straight to it, and any of your counterparty work if not completed will NOT be ported. Which will leave you left with porting counterparty to a 0.10 base.

@CinnamonCarter, Could you recompile with the latest source, ive added a lot more nodes with this one.
@Jumbley, once cinnamon''s compiled this then it should work out of the box. IF it doesnt then you have a firewall blocking your outgoing connections

whats the bounty?
6  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ixcoin TODO on: December 28, 2014, 07:01:34 PM
If 0.10 comes out i'll update it to 0.10 its not a big deal. The way we've done the work its not as hard to update anymore
7  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ixcoin TODO on: December 28, 2014, 05:33:14 PM
aha no thats not the issue jumbley dont worry. as soon as everyone else posts their copies here i can fix the node issue in the new client Smiley
8  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ixcoin TODO on: December 28, 2014, 11:56:38 AM
I know what the problem is (the lack of seed nodes in the network, can everyone here who has an ixcoin client running, go to about, debug window, console and then type getpeerinfo. Paste the output of that in here so that i can hard code them into the client)

I cannot imagine any pools using a windows client to mine, linux would be the choice...

There should be no conflicts on the ix network if a pool uses old builds vs. new ones.

I think an advantage of using the newer code is it might be faster (for things like writing to disk or latency) and in the case of iX the coin control feature is partially crippled (meaning you cannot send what would be one satoshi and set the fee to zero or what would be one satoshi in iX.... this was hardcoded in the source)

The only time a pool 'must' really upgrade is if you make key changes to the source code and using the 'protocol' kick all old clients off the network which is not the case here.

I am uncertain of the status of the other coins merged with bitcoin if they have updated to 9.x level but my guess is no.

If the merged mining is done with eloipool I would not be able to configure it for more than two coins myself and I think attempts to do so with some coins using older and newer codebases might complicate things.....  This is speculation on my part I have never ran a pool so others may have the answers.

There is more information here :

https://gitorious.org/bitcoin/eloipool/source/70e71f71a69b48ddf73ef2943f6988422c56c5b9:README

and here

https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Merged_mining_specification

edit 1 a security risk would be running old software that is easier to break into or wallets you cannot lock, for a user who wants to run the full satoshi client (qt) wallet I would suggest using the 9.x codebase.  Read the bitcoin wiki and list of upgrades in particular to how 'inputs' and 'outputs' are handled for more detailed information and other reasons the 9.x is superior to prior versions.

Double-Wow!
Thanks to Cinnamon, GroundRod & Ahmed.
Where is GroundRod? Did he not come to receive the honours?

Now Ghash.io has to test merge mining.

Dumb question: what happens if a pool remains on a old version and another move to 0.9.3? Do we benefit of new functionality? Is there any security risk in doing it?

Using eloipool ive been able to get around 5 coins merged mine together all of different versions of the BTC base(although i did rewrite quite a lot of eloipool and the merged mining proxy in the process to fit my needs. Now ive moved to some other code though. waiting for my new server to be brought online for me on monday before i can get to work on getting anything online

Thanks Ahmed. I think their server are off, since they still appear in the blockchain.

https://github.com/electrumalt

I think we should consider any problem interesting single members as a community problem.
Plus, I did't say I put there a half of my coins, but the total shown on electrum are a half of what I trasferred.
And I discovered the problem only because today I wanted to transfer there a good part of my coins.
So Ahmed, feel free to find the time another day. At this point I can wait for my coins.
I was really upset since it seems there is no way to secure your coins 100%.

How can cryptos be better than banks in this way?
sweet ill get a server online as soon as my pool server comes online (which also means im going to throw up a pool where i can test merged mining on IXC testnet)
11  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ixcoin TODO on: December 26, 2014, 09:27:10 PM
does anyone have a link to the electrum wallet's source code for IXC ill take a look. Also if it wasnt coded with any malware inside. then your coins are still there deadsea. it just means the transactions not been submitted to the network since ixco.in must have taken their electrum server's offline.

I can put one online if i can find the source code
12  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ixcoin TODO on: December 25, 2014, 02:20:31 PM
the code is done. GR compiled some binaries. its just merged-mining that needs testing. the best people to test this is ghash.io or another merged mining pool. You cant expect me to be able to do this when i dont have the code to do this.

Sorry, I am not so tech saavy. Is the update ready to be tested on Ghash.io? If so, I can try asking Jeff a favour. What link should I give him?
Thanks

Yes i would say so. atleast with a little bit of hashing power

The link to give him is: https://github.com/IXCoin-Dev/IXCoin/tree/iXcoin

Yep it is:

Make sure you use the iXcoin branch
15  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ixcoin TODO on: December 24, 2014, 04:52:55 PM
im currently busy working on my pool's code atm. so it may get done soon it may not i cant guarantee anything.
16  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ixcoin TODO on: December 24, 2014, 02:32:35 PM
another adjustment needed to that chart. the code is already  up to date with the latest bitcoin base(It has been for about a month or 2). all that is needed is for groundrod to finish his work on compiling of the QT and then it can be released (although merged mining hasnt been tested i believe the unit tests have).
17  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ixcoin TODO on: December 16, 2014, 10:29:54 PM
i dont currently have an IXC address as i broke the laptop it was on but ill get one here soon. Id be more than happy to work on IXC aslong as there's legitimate demand or aslong as im still in crypto whichever comes first.

Contrary to what you believe vlad. me and GR are both still active behind the scenes. We both have been spending time where possible for IXC. even i know that i havent yet finished the IXC requirements as set out by Thomas and i likely wont finish it meaning we may not recieve anything. Im not even that bothered really.

However it is completely unfair on what your saying about GR. all his time recently has been spent learning linux so that he can do complete builds for IXC's windows wallet's using the new bitcoin code base

Sadly this is going to have to be one of the odd times im going to disagree with you vlad. Wether it made certain people rich or not im not going to dispute. At the end of the day at the start of BTC a rich person could have got much more BTC stocked up than someone with less wealth. Just like in the fiat system.

Aside from that the technology of bitcoin is what satoshi gave to us. wether it was designed for mass destruction or world peace. The technology in itself is something which is very valuable which the people here are improving upon when these concepts might never have been thought of or been realistic to implement before.
