1  Economy / Service Announcements / [Update] RSM on: June 19, 2016, 06:48:32 PM
Red Star Management (ex Red Star Mining) will do a full update in the near future.  I've no secure Ledger access at the moment.  That's all and why I've been silent about the outfit recently.
2  Economy / Securities / Re: [796.com] Red Star Mining est. January 2012 - currently 23.57(TH/s)@23.88kW live on: April 03, 2016, 09:18:31 AM
We currently have around BTC100 of reserves

Looks like it's been around a year since anyone has commented on this operation.  Are there still plans to do something with this asset?

EDIT: There is still 18.86 BTC held here: https://blockchain.info/address/16QuagYMUDNRqnwroeZ2B6QYGCAZA6BzS4

After the last financial statement, 83.82 BTC has been spent without being accounted for.  The last transaction being made on 9/10/2015.  Any updates?

Yeah I've moved things around a little to make it both harder to steal while also taking some punts.  The last investment in mining gear we made didn't break even.  While I've took some punts on altcoins and overall that's paying off nicely.  I may partially close some positions temporally soon to try and leverage a little harder.  Anything that has been spent (read burnt) since that last mining hardware purchase has been accounted for on a spreadsheet.  That spreadsheet can be viewed upon request.  All other spending is since January 2012 is accounted for in this thread.

For its first four years online, a portion of every mined Zcash coin will go directly to Wilcox’s Zcash company and a smaller portion to a non-profit he’s creating to oversee the Zcash code and community longterm. Wilcox says that he plans for 1 percent of Zcash’s currency to ultimately go towards that non-profit, and 10 percent to be paid to the for-profit startup.
sounds like the typical instiminted story, nothing more than a money making scheme imo, i have great respect for some of the people involved but have they removed the backdoor ?

with ZeroCash, the people than create it can exploit the initial parameters and sign bogus transactions to give themselves unlimited free coins, it looks like instead of finding a solution for this, they have embraces it as a means of making themselves rich Sad

Hi,

I don't think that is really the case here.  On the one hand, the fact that there is a portion of mined Zcash diverted to the company (with 10 percent going to the for-profit startup, apparently with the bulk of that 10 percent to pay back investors who have already coughed up over 700k), could be seen as a criticism - do that for too long, the community isn't going to look kindly upon it, and some people simply aren't going to like the fact that it's done at all.  On the other hand, apart from the criticism it invites, it also can be seen as a potential net positive - no matter what, Zcash will have paid off its investors and have a tidy development fund to utilize.

In addition, there's nothing requiring anyone to use Zcash... the team has already produced Zerocoin (its initial release) and later, developed Zerocash, before its current release of Zcash (alpha, testnet).  (ANC development schedule shows some development work done with Zerocoin - for details see https://wiki.anoncoin.net/Development_schedule - though there were hiccups from back in fall of 2014 with heavy proofs and other issues, which apparently have taken a while to work out).  So, it's an open source world... people can use what they will.  I am guessing that if people want to use Zcash they will, for example, and if they want to use Zerocoin they will... each project that is evaluating using those will have their rationale for the direction they want to go.

Also taking 10% of the whole coin supply is way too much to believe they are confident their project can do as well as they are claiming it will do.  5% would be enough if they were just greedy and 2% or less would be enough if it was just about paying for development et al.

Mike Hearn calls Bitcoin's block size debate a ‘civil war’ - http://bravenewcoin.com/news/mike-hearn-calls-bitcoins-block-size-debate-a-civil-war/

Prominent Bitcoin Developer (Mike Hearn) Declares the Digital Currency a Failure - http://fortune.com/2016/01/14/bitcoin-developer-quits/?xid=soc_socialflow_facebook_FORTUNE

Is the RBF update being rushed through by Mike Hearn his next move in the Bitcoin (core developer) civil war?  I don't personally see this as an update but it could well be an actual act of sabotage.  Or hasn't he just come out and called the Bitcoin experiment a failure and walked away from core development.  If so then his proposed update (act of sabotage) hopefully won't be implemented at the next bitcoin core update.
5  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Replace-By-Fee: A Counter Argument on: January 17, 2016, 01:43:34 PM
There are currently methods to pretty much be sure that a zero confirmation transaction will go through on the next block.  Wouldn't this RBF update break that.  Apart the helping to foster a free market on transaction fees I don't really see the benefits of this update.  And won't it break the core ethos of bitcoin only being a pure push system.  I've read this update is due to be pushed through at the next bitcoin core update release.
6  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / RBF transactions to be enabled at the next core update on: January 17, 2016, 01:33:50 PM
Can anyone tell the major benefits of this update apart from what I understand is to help induce a free market for transaction fees.  Won't it break the ability to accept zero confirmation transactions?  As there are currently methods to do so with great certainty that a zero confirmation transaction will go through the next block.  And also doesn't this break the core ethos of bitcoin being a pure push system only.  I've read the RBF transactions update is being merged into bitcoin core at the next update.  Isn't that a little hasty for such a drastic change to the protocol to be brought in so quickly.  After it took us a good several months to agree on re-increasing the blocksize.
7  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Node App for Android on: January 15, 2016, 01:25:48 PM
Perhaps it would be best to build bitcoinj on Android over bitcoin core due to it's SPV abilities.  Moores law implies that it will get easier to run fully decentralised wallets on lightweight devices.

Vircurex have been witholding my deposited balance of hundreds of litecoin for quite some time now.  And it doesn't look like they're ever going to give them me back.  Nor have they ever once answered any of my enquiries regarding withdrawing these funds.  Even though they admit they have/had them of mine.
10  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Official Anoncoin chat thread (including history) on: October 06, 2015, 11:52:55 PM

So basically get your coins out quick.  We still really need in the cryptocurrency community a decentralised way to do secure peer to peer exchanges between cryptocurrencies at least.  Maybe trusted traders on OpenBazaar can provide this at some poin in the future.  Meanwhile isn't their now an I2p net only altcoin exchange that offers Anoncoin trading.

I was going to set up a node on this build although I'm having trouble accessing - http://www.geti2p.net - is it just my ISP or is the site down everyone.
12  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][FAIR] Faircoin Dev team launch Faircoin 2.0 White paper. PoC on: September 01, 2015, 02:33:59 PM
You maybe want to sell the idea of buying FairCoin and CoopShares investments.  As an alternative to buying a lottery ticket selling it as a micro investment idea could work well.  A lot of people are scared of investing in things unless they know it really well or all their peers do.  So if you sell it as the idea of maybe just micro investing.  And getting people to only buy/invest as much as they would spend on a lottery ticket once a week/month say.  Then I'm sure a lot more people will feel a lot more comfortable with the idea.  As they're really not sure if FairCoop will go on to do really well.  So if you sell the idea of only investing as much as they'd usually waste on a lottery ticket once a week/month.  Then they'd feel a lot more comfortable about it.  Instead of selling lottery tickets you could sell Electrum seed wallets for example.

Whenever I try and start the wallet on Xubuntu 14.04x64 I get the following error and it closes immediately.

Code:
Error: Failed to read block
: Failed to connect best block

I managed to solve the problem by deleting the blockchain.

Site currently:

Maintenance in progress (blockchain backup, bitcoind upgrade).

Mining activity is not affected.

We apologize for the inconvenience.

Here is the link to the forum discussion.

So assuming this hasn't been there for ages, things are still happening.

I've not had a payment in over a year now  Huh

the new Greek ATM from our Bitchain friends is on fire! Smiley and soon Fair will be able to buy!

Greece’s New 2-Way Bitcoin ATM Processed 20 Transactions in 1st Day

http://cointelegraph.com/news/114834/greeces-new-2-way-bitcoin-atm-processed-20-transactions-in-1st-day

FairCoop made the first contact for this mediatic and succesful emplacement, so bitchain will be very glad with us  Wink
Chip Chap is also involved managing the sofware and the exchange.

And the agreement with them is for all the ATM, (already 3 more in spain working), and plans to extend the network together
in Greece.  They could install 20 ATM monthly if there are good placements,
So if someone have a good placement to suggest let us know!  Wink

If you can get FairCoin on shapeshift.io then it'd be very easy for BTM operators to enable FairCoin transactions.

So, my proposal could be designed like this.

We build a Faircoin stabilization fund. That fund only appears in special situations, like we have now. I n the future when Coopshares liquidity fund would be bigger, probably that stabilization fund not would be needed, but right now is needed.

From getfaircoin we manage that fund.  we receive Bitcoin,  and buy on the sell walls. After that we distribute the faircoins in proportion of your investment.

For the people that suports the stabilization fund, and as a reciprocity of the risk that you are taking
We could bring 20% bonus of your buy in Bittrex, as a free investment in Coopshares FIF.  (This comes from the sells that we are doing in getfaircoin.net at bigger price)

So, as example. You invest 1 BTC, with that BTC the stabilization fund, buys 10000 FAIR (if the prices 10000 satoshis in that case)
then we send you the 10000 FAIR and we create for you an investment of 2000 FAIR in Coopshares FIF.

People that want to help without enter to the fund, can do anyway, managing their funds at their own, but without the coopshares bonus.

I would like to know if there are people interested in join.

Yes I could maybe put the 40,000 FAIR investment that I was going to make CoopShares into this fund or maybe only half of it if there's a lot more risk than there is with CoopShares.
17  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][FAIR] Faircoin Dev team launch Faircoin 2.0 White paper. PoC on: July 13, 2015, 01:59:53 PM
Why not create one of the coop funds dedicated only to give stabilization of the coin and to punish speculators?

This is what we are trying to do with http://www.coopshares.net
Any support to help to build that project is welcome... and getting the liquidity need is very welcome

I want to make two separate 20,000 FAIR investments into CoopShares if possible.  Although it currently says €1.00 = 20 FAIR so does that mean that each 20,000 FAIR investment would have a value of €1,000.  Even though at the current market price of €0.017726/1FAIR would mean that the current market value would be €354.52 for 20,000 FAIR.

how to install node on raspberry pi 2?
thanks

It'll be the very similar to any other guides for cryptocurrency wallets on the Rpi or similar to Linux in general like Ubuntu for example.  You'll also need some dependencies so just install this lot as well.   You don't actually need them all but these dependencies bring other dependencies to be installed that you do actually need.

Code:
apt-get update && apt-get upgrade
apt-get install ntp git build-essential libssl-dev libdb-dev libdb++-dev libboost-all-dev libqrencode-dev

Plus those dependencies will help you build cryptocurrencies from source on Github that's what they're actually for.  Although I can't get FairCoin to run on Linux without them.  And a Rpi is a flavour of Debian Linux just like Ubuntu is.  So if you ever can't find a Rpi guide for what you want to do.  Have a look for Debian and Ubuntu guides for the same problem which may do the trick.

You guys really want to work with the Blocknet project.  So that mazacoin can be used to pay for services on the Bitnation Horizon NHZ platform.  The Bitnation platform could potentially do a lot for your wider aims and goals.
