if you have coins on an exchange i imagine the site stakes them in their wallet and dumps them at market rate

actually the issue is the dumping that is currently happening, in order for the price to shoot up we actually need more people holding

there's probably already a sealed indictment with pauls name on it - i doubt he can return to america without risking arrest at this point

Well, I feel if someone had wallet access, and saw funds weren't there, they should be liable, yes. If with nothing else, at least for failure to report.
That being said, Coinbase isn't being sued because they saw funds weren't there. They are being sued because they had faulty KYC/AML, knowing Vernon had scammed people, and still allowing him to liquidate. They turned a blind eye to it. That's what the suit claims.
To be fair, if Coinbase did their job properly, they would have locked accounts, or not allowed it, meaning a good chunk of funds would still be there, or at the least, reported earlier, giving feds an opportunity to seize computers or servers early, maybe saving information. Who knows though, it is a what if scenario. Maybe if it was reported, feds still wouldn't have done anything in time, maybe they would have.
I agree, it doesn't directly catch or even help catch Vernon, but it does help make investors whole.
It isn't ideal by any means, but at this point, I do not believe any prosecution will reach Vernon unless he comes back to states, but at least it helps some people get money back.
Maybe if we're lucky, china will look into bitebi9 and get him with something there.
If the hacker isn't Vern or Cryptsy insider - most likely a rogue federal agent - like Shawn Bridges

she could have dragged this thing out for years and eaten up 250000 in lawyer bills or more - so might as well just get it done and move ahead - though i get your sense of outrage - she gets a quarter mil when - in her divorce papers - she said she had reason to think he was gonna take the money and run - "abscond to china" to be with his "paramour" - something like that - i think she said in her divorce papers if i remember right - this was a couple months before crypsty got shut off - she probably had a better idea than anyone what paul was up to months before anyone else understood the totality of it

looking at the motion to liquidate the coins the receiver says he recovered about a thousand dash?! wasnt crypstsy the worlds biggest holder of dash?

i cant even sell or withdraw the xc - I hope they reverse those suspicious trades but at least i should be able to sell the xc - this sucks because i dont want to dump mint I'm trying to buy it up now while its cheap not dump when it's severely oversold lol -these trades the hacker made are ridiculous - why wouldnt he just try to withdraw the mint why did he dump it for xc - the whole thing is bizzarre - it's as if a bter insider is using our accounts to pump xc

still no response to support ticket, now it's showing a balance of approx $350 basically the hacker dumped the MINT in my wallet (at rock bottom prices, you can see mint is very low) and they bought XC now my account is locked, my mint is gone and I have almost 5000 XC in the account - i never bought xc lol the hacker did for some weird reason
A day after support ticket still no response except the automated message that they received the ticket
I emailed them but it didn't get delivered, so I submitted a ticket just a few minutes ago. I do not believe my info was taken by a phishing site. I think it looks like someone with inside access.
why what did you experience?
On August 24, someone dumped a bunch of MINT in my account, and bought a bunch of XC. My account had about $365 worth of coin now it reads about $5. I emailed support but the emails seem to not have reached them since I got a message from the mailer Daemon that they failed to get sent to their support address.

It's just what it looks like, Vern looted his own exchange and now he's trying to duck the heat by fleeing the country. It's corporate embezzlement, plain and simple, just with a crypto twist. It's same story as the mintpal guy basically.
Who does this guy think he is that he's going to get away with this crap

Just alert got on . Vern running out of money or other thing got so badly ,he want to shutdown that website n start a new UI website + totally different form cryptsy . I got nothing support msg reply ( why they doing this lol ) Closing of Bitebi9 on 23rd.June coincided(no way by accident) with the putting rest of 3300 BTCs from selling allegedly stolen altcoins from Cryptsy to Bitcoin mixer - Bitmixer.io.Series of transactions were conducted on 21st,22 and 23rd.June and all of them to Bitmixer.io. Soon after series of huge dumps occured on Huobi and OKCoin. Now there are no slightest doubt that Vernon is behind alleged hack.He sold all of his Bitcoins except 11825 BTCs taken on 29.July 2014. Wallet with BTCs obtained from selling altcoins : https://www.walletexplorer.com/wallet/1356a64174770337 So where's the money? Paul closed bitebe, he should have about $2 M worth orf RMB if dumped that much on the chinese exchanges, how could he get that much rmb without a paper trail leading right to him? and get it out of china?
Who are Vern's co-conspirators in the cryptsy fraud? And what do we know about them?
