How about the (two) winners hold a new prediction competition for August 1?
2  Economy / Speculation / Re: BREXIT COUNTDOWN - T - 15 HRS - CALLING A BREXIT! - WATCH LIVE LINK on: June 23, 2016, 08:56:49 PM
I am predicting Britain to leave the EU.

LIVE: https://youtu.be/y60wDzZt8yg

Why? And what do you think will happen with the BTC exchange rate?
3  Economy / Speculation / Re: What's your take on the UK referendum and the BTC exchange rate? on: June 23, 2016, 08:53:04 PM
The sudden bump from $560 to $639 a couple of hours ago could be someone having early information about a leave result. I don't know how that would be possible since the voting hadn't even closed by then, but I'm not familiar with how the counting is organized.

It could also just be a so-called dead cat bounce.

$660.11  Cheesy

;)If technical analysis has meaning next level should be about $ 960.

Would you care to explain how you came up with that number?
6  Economy / Speculation / What's your take on the UK referendum and the BTC exchange rate? on: June 19, 2016, 09:25:16 PM
The United Kingdom European Union membership referendum will take place on thursday. How do you think the result will affect the BTC exchange rate?

The most popular opinion seems to be that BTC gains strenght in times of economic uncertainty, and a Brexit would certinly be classified as such. I agree. I think a "leave" result of the referendum will lead to a spike in the BTC exchange rate. 150 USD or more, probably within an hour.

I also think the opposite is true: A "remain" result will lead to a drop, but not as strong. The reasons I think this effect will be weaker are mainly the two following:
  • "Remain" is the most expected result. Take a look at the gambling sites if you don't believe me.
  • Many traders who have bought BTC in anticipation of a "leave" result have benefited from the rally since the end of May. They are not in a hurry to cut any losses.

So... has anyone here actually bought a coin for $700+?

(serious question, JJG is exempt)

Sure. Lots of people did that on the way down from $1163 back in the end of 2013. I know I did. Glad I held on to them.

Did you solve your problem, or do you still need help? I'm glad to help - just PM me the address to your site (if you don't want to make it public) and I'll explain how it can be done.

11  Economy / Computer hardware / [WTS] Heat sinks for Klondike K16 boards on: July 04, 2013, 05:04:22 PM
I recently salvaged some nice-looking aluminum heat sinks from old electronic junk, but I can't think of anything to use them for. The sizes makes them useful as heat sinks for Klondike K16 boards, but I don't plan on getting any more mining equipment. Therefore, I'm offering the heat sinks for sale.

The two heat sinks to the right are 100 x 97 x 30 mm.
The three heat sinks in the middle are 130 x 87 x 30mm.
The smaller heat sinks to the left are of various sizes. They are included in your purchase, if you want them.

The heat sinks have various holes drilled in them (there are also some holes in the fins), but you will need to drill your own mounting holes if you are to use these heat sinks with a K16 board. I've put fitting screws i the holes to make them more visible. The screws are included in the purchase if you wish, as is the metal bar that is fastened in one of the heat sinks.

Shipping is free within Sweden and the Nordic countries. If you want the heat sinks shipped to Europe or anywhere else in the world I can get you a quote.

12  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: June 26, 2013, 06:00:56 PM
If I understand things correctly, these miners will feature one or two 55x55mm packages, each consuming ~500W of electric power and giving it off as heat. I can see a cooling problem there. Removing that amount of heat from such a concentrated area will require a sophisticated cooling solution.

14  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: ASICminer usb miner 0.99 BTC in EU group buy on: June 25, 2013, 02:01:15 PM
Is there a interest for purchasing usb hubs, Raspberry Pi and sdcards with a ready to mine image together with the miners?

Depending on the price, yes.

17  Other / Archival / Re: Pictures of your mining rigs! on: June 20, 2013, 12:26:39 PM
i suspect that there are still people who want to mine BTC with expectation of holding them til the value increases Wink didnt you read the post about each BTC being worth 13k Huh Wink

If you are counting on the exchange rate increase to make your mining profitable (i.e. you will not make the invested BTC back) it's better to just keep or buy the same amount of BTC you would otherwise have invested in mining.
18  Other / Archival / Re: Pictures of your mining rigs! on: June 19, 2013, 04:41:41 PM
I haven't tuned the software on these rigs for minimum overhead and I haven't overclocked the video cards yet either. Currently the farm is running at ~6GH/s or ~500MH/s for each 7970. I built it as fast as I could to get the mining started so they are currently running Ubuntu desktop. Ultimately I plan to create a Gentoo USB install that automatically tunes and mines each rig.

How much did all of that equipment cost you, and when do you count on recouping your investment? It amazes me that people still buy GPU:s for mining. It's a very risky venture that will most likely never pay off.

7000 kWh per month equals ~10kW.
