1  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Opensource ATM Machine! on: May 31, 2013, 11:02:12 AM
Old Topic, but any progress on this.

If hardware was not too expensive, id definitely give it a go as Family operates a shop opposite a very large College / University. It may spur the young folk to get on BitCoin.
2  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Feds kill Megaupload... are you buying Namecoins yet? on: January 21, 2012, 12:05:48 AM
Not until its supported by OpenDNS or GoogleDNS - its just not adoptable in its current state... Simple Firefox/Chrome addons?. Also Namecoins could not have prevented this, MegaUpload hosted their servers in America and even those outside of the US (leaseweb) was seized.
3  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Hostile to US and UK = Good place for Bitcoin? on: January 19, 2012, 10:43:09 PM
Any country that is against America or whatever will hand over data if requested in return for something, their government will be after something small but more likely US with pay off someone lower to "steel" data.
Just look up "offshore banking" its "anonymous" except people get in trouble all the time as someone leaks info that is supposed to be secret.

At the end of the day encryption is a requirement but does not solve the problem, it would have to be distributed data. So seizeing one hard drive even with encryption does not give the full set of data.
4  Other / Off-topic / Re: Megaupload takedown is pure EVIL on: January 19, 2012, 10:39:39 PM
I think many of their operators will be thinking about their defence in the event they are "indited"... Unless something is uncovered that Im not  aware off, such as emails/letters asking pirates to upload more (lol) or money laundering or such like. I think MegaUpload has a good defence
5  Other / Off-topic / Re: Megaupload takedown is pure EVIL on: January 19, 2012, 10:14:17 PM
I read that Kim Dotcom has a bit of money in his pocket, so will mount a good defence. He is also a middle man and has an excuse..

They DO comply with DMCA take down notices, pretty quickly!!
The pirates liked it though because unlike YouTube where a video is analysed and further mirrors are removed.. Megaupload did not do it.

Its going to be interesting and Im not too pleased as I am 2 months into a 12 month premium membership. Ive asked PayPal for a refund, to see what happens... For curiosity sake.

The IP 46.21.104.237 is owned by glesys. The website has been hosted their since the MtGox news, as I checked before.

One thing that came to mind is why they used "domainsbyproxy" for their domain, but yet post full names and profile on forums. :/ Confusing.

The website has been since the "MtGox News" awfully slow, im get to get past login screen. Too slow that I close it.
7  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: TradeHill - Who we are on: June 20, 2011, 07:31:51 PM
Why post your names and info, but previously buy a domain via "domains by proxy"?
Where is "TradeHill Co. Ltd" registered?

I notice your hosting with a "cloud" company in Sweden, give them a kick as you don't have enough resources and if your on "the cloud" how can that be simply throttle up.

I wish you all the best, their needs to be a solid alternate to MtGox, but I would not count MtGox down and out yet.

Re-Post, maybe lost in the chaos. Your cloud hosting is slow... & why be anonymous and none anonymous at same time?

Security is one thing but "Password must contain at least one uppercase letter." is very, very annoying.
8  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Kevin Day, New Bitcoin Multimillionaire worth 5 Million dollars on: June 20, 2011, 07:21:32 PM

Id be very upset if I was Kevin Day, from the story it seems he made a bid and it was accepted due to no fault of his own.
9  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Certificate from gox? Huh? on: June 20, 2011, 11:32:09 AM
[Update - 3:45 GMT] DO NOT DOWNLOAD ANYTHING

If you receive ANY email which seems coming from Mt.Gox asking you to download something (certificate, generating program, etc), DO NOT DOWNLOAD. Do not either input your password on any site which is not MTGOX.COM.

This is malicious - avoid !

General Rule
 - Never download unsolicited attachments
 - Never click a href link in an email (always go direct via browser to homepage)
10  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Tradehill must take action NOW and ban referral spammers on: June 20, 2011, 11:28:41 AM
since Tradehill is not actively reacting to this and prosecuting abusers and disabling the account of abusers, they are showing silent consent to this spamming behavior.
In a reply to a topic Tradehill did say they will ban/remove commission from the spammer.
They wont reveal their identity which is bad for this situation but great seance of security for those who want to stay anon with Tradehill.

Lets not overeact, Tradehill is using referrals for marketing and it is working. The spammers crossed the line and tradehill put a stop to it, so boycott not necessary, lets move on.
11  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: TradeHill Spam on: June 20, 2011, 08:41:17 AM
wow, lots of spam.

I applaud Tradehill for their actions on the matter.

As for the spammers they have a nice bit of direct marketing, for us bitcoin users. Maybe this will simulate the economy, or at the least make everyone upgrade their google mailbox to accommodate the extra spam.
12  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: TradeHill - Withdrawals and trades halted to allow password changes. on: June 20, 2011, 08:31:38 AM
Yea, they can store it in the database, no one will get that.
Not if they do it correctly.
The point I was making was everyone's emails and passwords may be compromised. So offer something other than email and password is the only way to put themselves at a distance from MtGox data leak.

Dear Sir or Madam,

A few hours ago the Bitcoin trading website Mt Gox has been hacked. Malicious individuals have been able to obtain a database containing usernames, email address and encrypted passwords. This information has been posted publicly on the internet.

As a Bitcoin supporter I'm now sending a message to every email address contained in the hacked database. This is to warn you that your username, email address and password have been leaked. I therefore strongly advice you to change your passwords. If you have used the same password on different websites it's highly recommended to change your password on all of your accounts!

For a more secure alternative to Mt Gox, the community appears to be moving to TradeHill. So this is no reason to lose faith in Bitcoin itself. It must be seen as a warning that not every website can be trusted with your data however! Their link is http://www.tradehill.com/?r=TH-R15683 (Note: You can remove the Referral Code when registering if you want!) This is certainly not the only website where you can exchange Bitcoins, also check out http://www.thebitcoinlist.com/dp_bitcoin/bitcoin-exchange/

Sincerely,

A Bitcoin supporter

I for one, think that TradeHill should block referrer TH-R15683 from any commission.

This is not the way we want to grow our business. At the very least we will remove all the referrals from this users account.

I want to make it very clear that TradeHill is not spamming the compromised user list from Mt Gox.

Posting his personal information would violate our privacy terms which we take very seriously.

How about introducing a new layer of security, send everyone a unique 4 digit pin number to email.

Yeah, I guess about...a year, right?
Or the 20th.

A bank run (also known as a run on the bank) occurs when a large number of bank customers withdraw their deposits because they believe the bank is, or might become, insolvent.

Everyone is panic'ing about their emails and passwords
or crying because MtGox reversed their bargain transactions.

We know MtGox suffers from DDOS, will the website work when their is a "run on the bank" when it comes back live June 20th 11:00am?

After a run, will MtGox sill be able to meet its payments? Will it be around in a year?.. How will it effect the BTC value?

... .I guess we dont have long to wait and find out.

18  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: MTGox vs mysterious Russia on: May 03, 2011, 02:38:10 AM
Keep up the good work tux, moving to a service that claims to be protected against DDOS. I'd of not expected it either.

Would it not be more wise to transit MTGox across multiple servers and ISPs. Having it running for example on SLICEHOST/Amazon in silent then on times where under DDOS attack or Physical prevention, the exchange can throttle up the "cloud" hosting.

The bitcoin community puts great responsibility on your toes it seems.

20  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What world currencies are actually backed by gold? on: April 25, 2011, 01:05:51 PM
I think theirs a difference between "backed by gold" and exchangeable for gold.
