I haven't updated the pictures in a while, I've made some changes to the ducting system (Now 2x8" intake and 2x8" exhaust).

Total cost to build my enclosure (w/o wiring and fans) ~$400. It helps that I got most of the ductwork for free off of Kijiji Cheesy

Very interested here in AB, are you including a PSU?

Almost certainly another scam like all the others, their website screams of a fly-by-night cash grab.

Beware!

Anyone out there using S9s successfully with zpool?

I just attempted to with one of my S9's it didn't work for me.

you probably have to use a proxy.

this is what i use
https://github.com/Stratehm/stratum-proxy

Shortened as so long but I just tried zpool and am having no issues mining direct to it.  Will test for 30 minutess or so and post a screenshot but right now it seems to work just a tad slower my batch one is getting: 13,797.82 but have only ran for 3 minutes.

So looking promising as far as running it.  Is zpool really paying that well?

With stratehm it is noticeably more stable for S7 and S9, the S9 is significantly better than the S7 and I have never had my batch 3 lock up. The servers are not tremendously stable so expect to get 0.0002-0.0003 lower payout than what is listed by way of failovers, but you'll still get some good profitability.

Seems to be same results after 30 minute's.  No issues mining direct from a batch 1 S9.  Site is possibly slow though as in 30 minutes it show's hashrate much slower on zpool site.  Guess will see in a while if it catches up hopefully.:

I did lose a little hash compared to a normal pool (I've tested many on it).  Has anyone used this pool much is it really paying out so good consistently?

You'll find my miners there when profitability  is doing well (>.0018), no complaints all around. You'll sometimes find profitability will get mis-reported a bit due to the exchanges they use, but it's never too bad.

SHA-256 ASICs will work for any SHA-256 algo altcoin.

Keep in mind the most recemt ASIC's have a tendency to choke on the low difficulties presented by most altcoins, running all possibilities of given hashes + nonces and sometimes crashing the miners.

Coins I know of with reasonable difficulties (>1M):

Aurora, Digibyte (SHA256), Unbreakable, Terra, Neos, Digital (SHA256), Maza, C-Bit, Join.

Keep in mind profitability for these altcoins fluctuate wildly, check out www.zpool.ca.

Well, it was a fun 25 minutes (while it lasted); let me know if you ever get sha256 stable..
Code:
[2016-07-26 08:14:52.665] Proxy 0:mine.zpool.ca:3333 failed, attempting reconnect

nice and stable with https://github.com/Stratehm/stratum-proxy

i too cant get my s7s to run on here.. will this work on a rpi? or do i need a faster pc?

i mean i see the install for the rpi, but is it fast enough.

No reason for it to have an issue running on an RPI. This is still my plan in the near future, rather than using my gaming pc to run the two stratums. It takes about 200MB of RAM per server instance, but really doesn't take much CPU if set up properly.

Is there some advantage to ckproxy that stratehm does not implement? I don't think I could ask for much more functionality.

Not really an "advantage"; however, the fact that it's written by the same guys that wrote cgminer (and BMminer being a bastardized version of it) , would suggest that the connection code from proxy to miner would have to be as good as it gets in ckproxy. That's not to say that one is "better" than the other, just that that ckproxy/ckpool can't be "bad" at handling the connections.

Can't argue with your logic. In any case I have thoroughly tested stratehm with S7/S9 and zpool and it is significantly more stable having a stratum handling failover as opposed to connecting cgminer/bmminer directly. It's far from perfect, but I know crackfoo is still trying to get the sha256 stratums more stable which, with either method, could potentially solve all the problems.

nice and stable with...

If it ain't stable for an S9 using ckproxy, it ain't stable for an S9. Undecided

I'm provisioning a new standalone stratum server now to see if there is any improvement running on a high performance ssd vps.

Stratehm proxy is fantastic, my S9 (B3 w/ updated firmware) is more reliable than my S7's on zpool, have only had to reset it once. (This was most likely due to messing around and testing stratehm proxy to a tethered cell-phone and not due to zpool, but there it is.)

Is there some advantage to ckproxy that stratehm does not implement? I don't think I could ask for much more functionality.

Thank you,

What would be the easiest way to go then to get enough Th/s?
Buy a more recent hardware such as the Antminer S9, which provides ~12 Th/s. However your electricity costs are too high and you will be mining at a loss. I do not know of any more energy efficient hardware than the S9.

S9 is the most efficient miner available to the public by a long shot.
FYI if your electricity cost is higher than $0.10 USD/kWH it's a waste of your time to even consider mining.

The chinese miners likely pay <$0.03 USD/kWH, if you can't beat that price you will likely never see a return on your investment.

There HAS GOT to be a good way to shut up that SIREN sound on the S9 11.85!!!

I have read on here about loosening screws, tightening screws, and putting some paper on the intake to partially block air flow. There may be other suggestions that I missed as I haven't read every page.

Well, I have tried loosening and tightening without any effect.

Putting a piece of cardboard to partially block the intake works, but, of course, raises the temperatures.

I have also set the fan speed manually to 87%. But if I take that cardboard away, the siren starts back up.

I'm concerned the neighbors are going to complain if I don't shut up that noise because their front porch faces the windows that I'm drawing air in from. And I really don't WANT to obstruct air flow as I've had to down-clock a lot to keep it cool enough.

Any other thoughts on that noise? Would switching out one or both fans have any effect?
Good Lord that is an abrasive sound!!!!

Thanks for any more thoughts on this annoying and irritating problem!! Smiley

EDIT: Does the foam AC filter trick work well? Are you covering the whole intake or just the part that will stop the squeal?
Hell, I'll cut a piece off of an AC I'm not using right now. Thanks!!

EDIT2: Well putting an AC filter over the intake didn't stop the squeal. BUT, I found that taping a small piece of cardboard on the top right corner of the out-take fan did stop the noise. The noise has stopped but I'm not too keen on having flammable cardboard in that hot zone. I have to find a replacement material. It's also keeping the temps higher than I would like even with it under-clocked.

Still seeking a good solution.  Undecided

Snapped a pic for you, this at least is what worked for me. Completely eliminated that soul-wrenching whine up until it hits max RPM, at which point you would still hear it a bit if it wasn't in the enclosure.

It takes both that little piece of duct tape, and the furnace filter over the fan to dampen it completely. Really hasn't seemed to affect the temp much if it all, it runs noticeably cooler than my S7's in the same enclosure.

There's always a chance that the fan may be particularly bad, worth sending an email to Bitmain to try and get a replacement out of them although I wouldn't hold my breath on that one.

Also found they finally added the F1 fans for purchase: https://shop.bitmain.com/productDetail.htm?pid=00020160427064355841K5mkl8F70673

If it's that bad you may have to break down and roll the dice on another fan, at least they're not too expensive.

EDIT: Forgot to add link for the furnace filter: http://www.rona.ca/en/furnace-filter-02095249--1

And don't forget the pretty good % of "dreamers" who keep mining no matter what.

Does anybody have a stats of USB miners still on?
And I guess that a lot of other old miners are in the same situation.

....or am I giving them too much credit?

That's pretty much impossible to tell, any estimate you want to make based on 0.25W/GH and lower fall apart when people have free electricity. There are definitely people out there mining (USB for certain and likely s5/s7LN/s7/s9) on free electricity, and there's really no way to know how much hashpower that may represent both in pools and solo mining.
17  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Anyone use dust filters on their miners? on: July 13, 2016, 01:40:01 PM
I have gone through 2 pieces of this stuff, and it's freaking amazing.

http://www.rona.ca/en/furnace-filter-02095249--1

Makes a beautiful intake filter, I use a piece on the front of my S9 (One of the ones with a whiny fan) and it keeps the noise down substantially.

Hi to everybody. I have an s9 antminer 12.93 th/s. Today the yield moved from 0.03 evere 24 hours to 0.018. What s is going on? Difficult increase?? I cannot check... i am abroad. Or maybe my 3g data plan is suffering.? Which one is your actual yield? From the dashboard of antpool i can see that they miner is on and the hashrate looks ok.
poor bastard...

LOL BTC3.2 for something that will never mine half that.

If you had %100 free electricity you could never ever ever come close to breaking even on this.

Except that we don't live in a static world.

Difficulty will decrease, price will rise, etc.

I've never regretted buying in early in the past, and expect this year to be no different.

wat?
WTF does difficulty or price have to do with anything?  If you have BTC3.2 and spend it on one of these miners you are turning BTC3.2 into some amount LESS than BTC3.2.  CASE CLOSED.
You cannot justify it by talking about difficulty or price or any other random event that have zero bearing on the math.  Buying one of these miners takes an amount of bitcoin and turns it into LESS bitcoin than what you started with.
WAKE UP PEOPLE.

wrong some of the time.

2000 usd in bank I buy 3.2 coins as I believe you.

coins tank to 200 usd .  still have my 3.2 coins  they stay tanks for a year.

due to tank in price diff drops a lot an in the next year I mine 8 coins.

so 1 year later  my 3.2 coins purchased  for 2000  since price stays tanked at 200 a coin buy and hold I have 3.2 x 200 = 640 in fiat or  3.2 coins.

vs my investment in a miner which cost  has earned 8 coins. so 8 x 200 = 1600 usd and I have the miner.

Do people really not have anything better to do than go around telling people that they're idiots for mining? As though someone who does not own miners, and thinks it's a stupid idea, has any opinion worth hearing.

I bought miners, which are inflationary as there are always more being made, to mine a deflationary currency. You haven't for a fraction of a second considered every scenario possible in this situation, and yes, it involves gambling on the future.

Fact: Purchasing miners has been a win for me so far, and the future looks sunny, I am under no obligation to "show the proof". I could hardly care less what your (or pretty much anyone's) opinion on my mining operation is.
