You could try donating a small amount to a charity. We've been accepting bitcoin donations since March this year but there are many others such as the RNLI and the Water Project

If you'd like to experiment by donating to the Turing Trust we'd be very grateful. Our donation page can be found here: http://turingtrust.co.uk/donate-by-bitcoin/

OP, we're a small UK based charity that repairs and reuses IT equipment which is then used in schools in Africa. We started accepting bitcoin donations in March this year and also accept Litecoin. If you are interested in our work you can find our donations page here:

The name reminds me of the Turing Foundation in Homeland series..

Checked around a bit and actually looks quite good! I hope bitcoin gives you some extra exposure and donations. Especially that solarpie project looks really cool. I can imagine that a low cost lower power machine such as the pi is ideal for your goals.

just making my first donation to the trust's wallet, I hope my small donation worth. and can be used to help african peoples.
thanks

Thanks very much Ardenyham! Smiley

Good to see another non-profit organization accepting Bitcoin - especially one in the technology field! It would be good if you could download a soft Bitcoin wallet into the computer before you send them out to Africa. Anyway, would donate some Bitcoin when I am not in a tight budget. Smiley.

Thanks King Jack Smiley  I doubt we'll be adding wallets to our computers but one thing we have spoken about is adding a section on Bitcoin and digital currencies to our E-library
Good to hear.I am sure if some reputed NGO like yours adopt and endorse bitcoin,it will going to help bitcoin in its growth.Bitcoins is often associated with some bad things which keep a lot of people away from it.NGOs like Turing Trust involvement will dispel the misconceptions from a common man's mind

Very good point. We are aware the public's perception of Bitcoin isn't always very positive so we hope we can play a part in helping to change that.

What are you using the donations for if people are bringing old computers for free to your door step? Do you pay a lot of money for shipping costs to African countries or the goods will be transported free of charge as you are a charity organization? What do you think about Raspberry Pi Zero the $5 computer? You could get a whole bunch of them for less than the shipping fees on these old PC's you are sending out right?

I'm not at liberty to say how the bitcoin donations will be spent as it will be a joint decision.

We did an assessment last year and found that we could deliver computers at £10 per unit to certain places where it may have cost £80 to buy similar spec machines locally. So it makes financial sense and also saves computers in the UK from being scrapped.

We are big fans of the Raspberry Pi at the Turing Trust. Later this year we'll have finished our first off-grid classroom made from an old shipping container fitted out with Pi's and a PV solar system. You can read more here if you are interested:

It is really a good news for those who are their donators and who want to donate them, as it is much easy to pay for a donation through bitcoin. but donating through banks and cheque it take some time and effort to go to there, but with bitcoin you can donate from home with a few clicks.

Very much so. Bitcoin has really helped us just in this short period of time

In a nutshell we reuse old computers that would normally end up on a landfill sites and send them out to schools in Africa. If you are able to support us please use the link below. We'll be embracing bitcoin fully and will be setting up a full node in the near future.

Will the Turing Trust be supporting the Bitcoin ecosystem in any other ways?
Yes, in the near future we will be hosting a full node to support the network.
This is what we need, some organization that will support Bitcoin.

We will do our best Smiley

Well it is for a good cause, and I would rather see children in Africa benefit from this, than seeing it go to waste in a landfill. I bet the recycle companies are not very happy with this initiative, because they

reclaim quite a lot of precious metals, including gold from these old computers. I know there has been some complaints from some of the African nations, saying that Africa is becoming the landfill for 1st

world countries old mobile phones... I am saying, Go for it... you getting it for free!   Keep up the good work... I will donate some.

Thanks very much for your support. It's much appreciated! Smiley

Nice job, OP Cheesy

Thanks for bringing this up. Our machines get taken to dedicated e-waste facilities once they reach the end of their life. Many machines that get donated here in the UK would actually end up being scrapped and dumped in landfill sites so we're reducing the problem not adding to it.

Never heard of your organization either, good to see you accepting Bitcoin donations! You'll definitely have success with it. And good to see computers being reused for a greater cause Smiley

Thanks very much! We're all excited about this technology and how it can help support our work

Do you have an office in the UK? I tried looking for the Contact info but there is nothing there except some form to fill out.

Yes we are based in Edinburgh, UK. The reason we don't list our address is that people were dumping computers in bulk outside our front door (some in the rain). We are currently open 3 days a week but hope to be open full-time asap. When that happens we will update our website and google with our address

First time heard about Turing Trust, and looks like media never make a news about it.
I'll help when i got my payment next month.

BTW, do you sell your bitcoin before use it to help others?
Well if you searched it on google you will find a few info on this charity and it convinced me to donate Smiley

@Turing
Do you have a photo proof or some sort of your donation ?
I might be blind here but I can't find any of it on your site
Putting the photo on your post might help convinced people to donate to your cause, just like any other charity websites Smiley

Sorry i'm not sure i follow you. Photo proof of what?
