3  Other / Beginners & Help / Are my BTC at risk ? on: March 22, 2015, 07:51:08 PM
Hi,

I use bitcoin-qt and I had an encrypted wallet.dat file stored in a few safe places.
I wanted to check whether I still remembered the password. I copied the stored wallet.dat file into the Bitcoin folder and opened Bitcoin-qt. The quickest way I could think of testing whether I remembered the password was to select the option "create new password", which obviously requires the old password.  Upon performing this action and therefore confirming that I do remember the password of the stored wallet.dat I proceeded to delete this "testing" wallet. I have not made any transactions or any other actions with the testing wallet.

However, later on, I have read that every time you change your password previous backups of the wallet become useless. I have run again bitcoin-qt using the old back-up and the funds are still there, however I would like to ask to the experts of the forum whether these wallets are now useless or whether I could face some problems in the future.

Thank you.

13  Local / Primeros pasos y ayuda / Manera rápida de aceptar Bitcoins ? on: June 18, 2013, 09:09:14 AM

Gracias.

Miners' margin profits have made a new low due to the recent difficulty adjustment: http://blockchain.info/charts/miners-operating-profit-margin?timespan=500days&showDataPoints=false&daysAverageString=1&show_header=true&scale=0&address=

As this continues, it will take longer and longer to pay off an ASIC and miners will be forced to liquidate a larger perecentage of the 3600 daily BTC to cover their expenses.

Miners speculatively holding Bitcoins is not the usual state of things. They are a business, and soon they will have extremely tight margins like in the past. I give it 1 or 2 more doublings of the difficulty.

Any ideas what is the cause of Dec'12 sudden drop ? Right after that drop, the 2013 rally began. I wonder if there is a relation between those two events and whether this could happen again now.

I am surprised bitstamp and btc-e are holding.
Back in April, when MtGox stopped the engine "to cool the market", the price in other exchanges plummeted like a stone.
16  Economy / Speculation / Re: Why BitCoin is about to explode again on: June 12, 2013, 03:54:35 PM
I agree with OP.
I can't think of a better way for the average Joe to realise how Bitcoin beats fiat than to get literally robbed by your bank, Cyprus-style.
We are bound to see more deposits and savings being seized in Greece, Spain, Portugal and Italy.
When that happens people will desperately seek ways of keeping their savings. Cyprus has only one milion inhabitants and the rumour of BTC being a possible alternative for its citizens got the price to skyrocket.
Spain and Italy have together almost 110 milion inhabitants. The consequences of 1% of the wealth of these two countries going into BTC would be massive.

And the prices has just gone up to 101$. Thanks for your selling, Jaroslaw.

I have a friend of mine at the conference this weekend and he has been speaking to a few people who think a $5000 + bitcoin could be possible.

Thoughts ?

I need to have your friend's drug dealer contact details. He is buying really good shit.
