As it's already been stated. You paid for a guaranteed 8 card mobo package. If you didn't buy this, would you have had any clue on the correct motherboard to purchase to run 8 cards? People ask here ALL the time on how to get x cards working on y motherboards, and most of the time it's just not possible. People see 6-8 PCIE slots and just assume it'll work, but in now way does it work like that.

Most people either use a server PSU, or use 2 PSU's with an Add2PSU to start them both.

To mine eth you need at least 3 GB of ram on the card. That card can't mine eth at all.

You could mine Zec on that Nvidia when you're not gaming.

For a 6x RX580 rig, you might have an issue. Look in the Dedicated Rx5xx series thread for more info.

The higher end Nvidia cards can do them all quite well, but you pay a premium on the cards of course. There's other altcoins out there that you could look at as well. Check out whattomine.com to just get a good idea of some of the other stuff. The values on the site are good guesstimates, don't make your decisions soley off of that, but it's a good way to get a little information.

I currently run RX470-480s, I just purchased a couple 1080's to see how I like them over the AMD cards, since AMD cards have had a major price hike recently with the eth spike.

If you just looked around on some of the posts on the front page, you'd get an answer pretty fast... Nvidia 10 series for Zec, Amd RX x70 - x80 series for Eth. Doge is Asics. Monero is AMD cards again, can use Nvidia.

Already OOS

So now I've tried multiple GPU's with SMos. I expect to have a bit lower hashrate with it of course over Win10, but I go from 27-29 With Rx470-480 and RX580, to 19-22 on SMos. Is there something else I have to do? I've overclocked them like I would in Windows, but they mine that much slower still.

Best bet would be check your local stores. If you're near a Microcenter or Fry's that's a good chance, otherwise check for a local distributor.

Best way I've found is go to services in windows, and just disable the update service all together. For a dedicated rig it's fine, if you're actually using the computer as well, I wouldn't suggest it because it does turn off the security updates as well.

I wish I had some of those cards... trying to source out the last of the 4 series isn't working at all.... and the 5 series just isn't working well for me.

Looks great man, an inspiration. I'm up to 5 rigs, building a 6th right now. Current prices make mining a very luxurious hobby.

With the way I had to setup the intake, wind isn't really going to help. On those lines, how do you keep water out from your intake? I have a small sheet metal enclosure built at the moment so rain doesn't have a direct shot in, but how do you keep it from blowing in with wind?

Shouldn't exhaust have more to deal with the actual cubic feet more than amount of power being used?

Also do you think the heat shield stuff you're using is worth it? Does it seem to be helping?

And final question I think, you have fans that you say are push, are those directed at the cards themselves to blow cooler air directly over them?

It's currently like this, Exhaust is the in top left of the room. The center of the room is the 4 rigs, mix of rx 470, rx 480, 24 cards total, about 4KW. In the bottom right of the room is the intake vent.

The room is small. 3.5x4.5x8. I know currently the exhaust isn't up to snuff for what I have, I'm looking at probably a 500ish CFM exhaust, or is that lowballing it?  Currently I'm just using a couple small leftover furnace fans to exhaust, and that's probably the biggest issue.

Shouldn't the pressure created from the exhaust, if it's enough, create the suction needed to bring the fresh air in?

Pretty much exactly what the title says. Do you need fan intakes for a dedicated mining room, or just enough exhaust to cycle the air enough, with an open vent to fresh air?

Also for an open air rig setup, I'm having some heat issues already. I have 4 rigs in a single room, hanging on wire racks. Should the cards have fans blowing directly on them as well? The cards are sitting 70-75 at 75-80% fan speed. This was during a major heat wave here, but that was only 90 Fahrenheit temps, which will go up in the summer.

A lot of motherboards with enough PCIE slots still can't do that many cards. You should check in the bios for PCI speed setting and if there's an option for Above 4g decoding. Mess around with those, but if it doesn't work, then most likely the mobo doesn't support it.

I agree. 5 of my rigs went down, had to DDU and reinstall drivers, and 2 went back down today, same issue. Really annoying to have to try to fix remotely while at work.

So I the room I have is roughly 4x5x8, so 160 Cubic feet. What sort of fans should I look for for air flow? Right now I have 2 rigs in it, the entire room is pulling about 2KW after the switch/current fans are taken into account as well. I have a huge intake right now, but no fan on it, and I know thats an issue. I have a couple small furnace exhaust fans that I had leftover from another project that are exhausting the air.

The intake hole is on the bottom right of the 4 ft wall, and 2 exhausts are on the opposite 4 ft up near the ceiling, and 1 exhaust on the wall with the intake, above it.

The vertical walls are the 4 Ft, the horizontal the 5. I have 2 exhausts on the left 4 foot near the top, the intake on the right 4 foot on the bottom, with an exhaust near the ceiling.

I plan on expanding this room to 2 more rigs soon, so probably something just under 4KW after I do that.

Ambient temps will probably get to be 90's during the summer, hottest time around 4-5 PM when the sun is hitting this room directly.
