1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: BAIKAL GROUPBUY 6 - Giant Plus - 2000MHS - $4000 open on: July 23, 2017, 06:44:02 PM
what is everyone doing with their cubes now? surely going to earn dust now with so much new hardware coming out?Huh
2  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Goodbye Pinidea and Baikal on: July 23, 2017, 12:59:54 PM
So is everyone selling their baikal cubes now? As they will be wiped out of all profitability? Or are people thinking they might hang on in the x13,14,15 quark and qubit realms?

Might be better just to buy coins on all algos the baikals can mine, sell the hardware and hope for the price of the coins to pump up to match new network hashrate with the absolute shitstorm of new d3/giants/etc etc coming online soon?
3  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Where should I store my bitcoin for the new few weeks? on: July 19, 2017, 07:54:21 AM
I hold some in bitpanda.com and some in blockchain.info

During this whole fork situation - where should I keep my bitcoins? Should I download the bitcoin core wallet to my computer and move the coins there?

Should I just leave them in their online wallets?

If I move them to a local computer wallet, what do I need to do when bitcoin forks? Do I need to do something to get the same amount of coins in the new chain? (Download a core wallet for the new one so I have bitcoins in both the original and the forked?) (if so how??)

Thankyou all - I don't really care about which chain is the successor etc I just care about being on THE chain and not being left with coins in the wrong place

Thoughts appreciated
Thankyou
4  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Investing in ICOs... is it possible to profit? on: July 18, 2017, 02:56:59 PM
After reading about ICO investment I got all excited about popping a few quid here and there into some good looking ICOs and then turning nice, Porsche buying profits in a few months time...

After reading this read https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1530158.0 I was feeling less sure...

Is it really possible to come out on top with ICO investment? And if so.. how!?'

Or am I just delusional and being drawn in by the nectar of the ICO Venus fly trap...?

5  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: UPDATED: Segwit and the August 1st and SegWit2x fork explained in simple terms on: July 17, 2017, 09:55:50 PM
okay so the bitcoin i currently hold in bitpanda and in blockchain wallet... should i just leave them there? will my coins just become what ever the outcome is?

Should i transfer my bitcoins from those online wallets to a local core wallet on my computer? if so how do i download the wallet for the 'new' bitcoin? how will my coins be duplicated to the new coin??

Will my mining rigs currently mining dash and eth and other alt coins be affected?

gaddd i hate all this forking shit! haha
6  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / What are the best ways to target new 'below-radar' coins to mine? on: July 14, 2017, 04:34:44 PM
It has always been a good idea to mine below-radar-coins (BRC) and hope that your larg holdings of that coins prove profitable once (if) that coin floats above the radar and increases in value

I'm just wondering what are people's methods for locating and selecting these BRCs? Where do you read and learn about them and what characteristics make them interesting enough to mine?

Further to this - how long would you typically mine such a BRC? A week? A month? Depends on the characteristics of the coin? Because of course the longer you mine it the higher your risk/reward ratio

Any thoughts or tips appreciated Smiley
7  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / has someone just turned on a sh1tload of dash miners?? on: July 08, 2017, 06:49:10 PM
Difficulty has just seen a sharp spike Sad im guessing a new product is online for initial testing by its manufacturer or something..

oh dear Sad
8  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: has anyone ordered sth at asic-minerworld.com ? on: July 06, 2017, 10:27:55 PM
There are ALOT of scams related to the baikal products

Either get it from baikal directly or don't get it would be my advise
9  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: A question of ethics for you... on: July 06, 2017, 07:28:05 PM
Agreed... the owner doesn't quite know what he's signing up for and this will end badly for me haha

I have a better idea though

Perhaps I should rent a larger self contained office within the same building - noise thus isn't an issue - check the cost per kWh and then sublet it out to anyone else that wants an air conditioned place to keep their rigs!

Security is 24/7 onsite guard
Self contained office would be locked up from the inside too

Hmmm!
10  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / A question of ethics for you... on: July 06, 2017, 07:15:03 PM
So I have been looking for a place to set up my gpu rig (hopefully the first of many)

Found an office division space for £180/month
No contract just 30 days notice
24/7 access and on site security
Free UNLIMITED power..!!! (I asked about fair usage policies "...no fair usage.. it's unlimited.")
Free UNLIMITED aircon - I was told they could set the timers so that overnight and the weekends it turns into a freaking icebox in there
Enough space for probably 3 rackstacks containing about 12 rigs I would guess

But.... and here's the whammy....

During working 9-5 hours.. the rest of the office (one large room divided with partitions) is occupied by people actually renting the spaces to work....

And the rigs... as we know... are noisy AF. All. Day. Err. Day.

(I also asked the owner about noise limits and they were just like "yeah no problemo!!"

So.. what do you think?

A. Dive in and spam the primary inbox of that little office with rigs
Or
B. Find somewhere else (good luck me) that doesn't homewreck the working spaces of a bunch of genuine hard working people..

 Huh
11  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: collection bios Rx470 on: July 06, 2017, 07:50:27 AM
If I'm using ethOS.. I understand it that I must apply a global overclock instruction in the local.config?

If correct... does anyone have any good and stable mem and clock speeds for Sapphire RX 470 4GB OC Reference cards? (The silver, single centrifugal fan ones)

Thankyou Smiley Smiley
12  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Order on amazon on: July 03, 2017, 03:18:33 PM
You'll note that all vendors of graphics cards will have expected dates.. but you'll get to the date and it will move to a new expected date

This is because this manufacturers of the gpus are unable to provide a large batch for a few more months so they are sending out small batches here and there when they can

Each vendor is advised of the next mini-batch date but only some of the vendors actually receive a batch

Right now you'll have to just wait it out for an unknown period of time or invest elsewhere I'm afraid

13  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: WHERE do you mine...? As in.. the garage.. a commercial unit etc? on: July 03, 2017, 02:36:35 PM
SoCal Edison don't even think about it I pay $0.32 at my house and it's $0.088 for commercial electricity so the commercial spot basically pays for itself.

Oh wow that is savage! Am I right in thinking that cali's energy prices are all thanks to Enron messing everything up??

I think I'm gonna go small commercial as my garage is just too noisy now :/
14  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Ethereum Mining with Linux installed PS4? on: July 02, 2017, 09:56:31 PM
What are the graphics specs for a os4?

I must be honest - I am very doubtful this will yield very much
15  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / WHERE do you mine...? As in.. the garage.. a commercial unit etc? on: July 02, 2017, 09:54:23 PM
Just wondering where people tend to have their rigs set up, how much they pay, and what your pros and cons are?

For example - I currently have a bunch of baikal cubes and a gpu rig set up in the garage - and I have another batch of gpus on preorder (whenever they arrive)

I pay zero for ground rent - only pay for electrical supply at standard domestic rates

Pros - it's free, nearby and secure

Cons - it's noisy and hot as shit and isn't big enough to support growth

My plan is to find a small commercial unit to rent but this is a bit of a bummer as I'd have to slosh out ground rent each month - it would of course afford me more space for growth and maybe some cooler temps but it's another cost to bear

Interested to get a feel for what others in the mining world do..?

Thanks as always:)
16  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Where to plug my display - GPU rig - Please help on: July 02, 2017, 10:22:28 AM
Mobo: Asrock H81 Pro BTC
GPUs: Sapphire Radeon RX470 4GB OC Ref cards
Risers: Usual 1x to 16x
Display: Big TV with HDMI lead
OS: EthOS

When I plug the HDMI display lead into the HDMI out on the mobo and boot without any GPUs plugged in it will boot normally and the screen displays EthOS as it should.

When I plug one or more GPUs into the PCIe ports with the HDMI lead plugged into the mobo it all still boots (i can hear and see all the fans etc) but the screen doesnt turn on.

I then move the HDMI lead to the HDMI out port on the GPU but still nothing Sad

Im guessing the default display out when a GPU is plugged in is one of the DVIs on the GPU? But as I dont have a DVI lead is there any BIOS setting or something I can change while no GPUs are plugged in (so i can see the screen) to change the defualt display out to stay as the mobo hdmi out or to be the GPU hdmi out...?

Please someone help me - Im so close but just cant get the display working haha

Thankyou!

Vlad, you seem like a very knowledgeable person, and I have just spent 20 minutes sifting through this mountain of a thread to come to a clean and digestible conclusion about your 'the end is nigh' posts...

Might you be able to do a TL;DR abbreviated version? A praisie/summary/conclusion/roundup of your thoughts?

Most gleefully appreciated - Couture

I friend of mine summed up what I've been saying for nearly half a decade really well.  If bitcoin splits in multiple pieces then:

-  The immutability myth will vanish.

-  The consensus crap will be fantasy.

-  The decentralization a fairytale.

-  Anonymity bulls**t.

-  Cheap and fast transactions a lie.

One thing is for sure though - crypto is the future so then the big questions is, where will users, miners, merchants, banks, corporations, etc., go when they finally wake up to the obvious truth?

And apples - Romanian grandmas do love handing out apples.

1. Thankyou for your summary - as promised... I am gleeful

2. Your reference to handing out apples..? I first thought it's a reference to the witch in Snow White... but that tale was originally scripted in German to my knowledge...?

3. What happens next? What happens to all the  people (don't really know just how many people) Mining bitcoin and mining primary altcoins (dash/etherium/ltc/a few others)? Do they/we just mine the next most profitable coin for ever? Will there be a final set of coins in a similar way there are a somewhat final set of fiat currencies now?

4. Please feel free to take hours and hours to make a video/docufilm akin to Zeitgeist.. that would be awesome

Best,

Icarus

WARNING!!!

Don't cry and scream, "NOT FAIR" when you lose all your Bitcoins.

I've been warning everyone for a year about Satoshi coming back and about a massive CryptoWar.

Now I'm telling you straight up:  There will be only one surviving chain.  You CHOOSE the wrong chain and I will attack it mercilessly until there is no more life left in it.

I will KILL your coin, along with your hopes and dreams; for you let greed and fear lead you instead of the Truth!!!

I think you need to dig up some more evidence on this... otherwise it's like saying "what if satoshi is actually Kim Jon Un and he is going to use the blockchain to cripple the financial systems of the west...."

But if you can find anything ... then cool

This is indeed a global phonemon

I don't think the vegas will make a huge difference - yes they are more powerful but hash/dollar is really what counts and so far the rumours and leaks have been that they are very very pricey and that their price increase is disproportionate to their hash increase
