I'm considering applying this principle on the local board - it is bad for merit circulation to allow unsued souce to expire. High quality: 5-6 merits ( could be higher in some cases) Medium: 3-4 merits Normal: 1-2 This way members can have enough Smerits to Merit another member to help in circulation. what are your thoughts on this ? If they complain about amounts, tell them to complain to me. It's best if sources try to exhaust their source allocations, even if it means giving posts higher amounts than is typical. If you have 150 source merit and you only see 3 merit-worthy posts in a month, then I'd rather you over-give each of them 50 merit than let the merit expire. That way there are more people capable of sending merit, and the "merit economy" is less top-down.

I do NOT longer trade p2p ever! those who has been trading/swapping their coins for Naira please stop sending coins to the swapping addresses - I will not be responsible for any loss as those addresses are not longer in my full control ( monitored)
The EFCC and the CBN are actively illegally going against big P2p vendors and sueing for money laundering and terrorism financing. I've had some illegal activities on my trading Bank accounts since Q3 of 2024.
This is only an announcement thread - I'm locking it..

Earlier this year, some celebrities and prominent personalities launched pump and dump token, Ponzi schemes to defraud their followers and other innocent Nigerians, taking advantage of the country's current economic circumstances to steal millions of Naira from investors to fund their lavish lifestyle. The Nigerian Securities and Exchange Commission has proposed a bill to the Senate that would require convicted Ponzi scheme operators to serve a 10-year jail sentence and pay N20 million. This is a courageous step to protect our crypto space and further stop tarnish the reputation of the crypto community in Nigeria. https://www.google.com/amp/s/nairametrics.com/2024/11/18/nigerian-crypto-industry-endorses-bill-proposal-to-jail-ponzi-operators/%3famp=1What do you guys think about the new bill proposal? Will it scale through or abandoned just like the old proposed bill under Buhari Govemment.

Hello Community, I've been thinking about it, and several people have expressed their opinions/suggestions about the off-topic sub-board - some believe it should be renamed General Discussion (which may be a better name), Altcoin Discussion, or something else rather than off-topic. I agree that the off-topic sub-board has served its purpose and is still very important to the local board, but there are topics that do not fall into Politics and Society, Bitcoin-related, or off-topic but were moved to the off-topic sub-board because there was no reason to have them on the main board or Politics and Society, so I'm opening up this thread for further discussion. If the community requests modifications, I will mention to this thread in any message I write to Theymos. I don't make decisions; I'm only here to serve, so whatever you decide is what I'll pass across.

Hello community,
The community has been supportive of my work here since its creation, from my monthly statistics for the local board to giving free escrow services to the community and to fighting scammers and spammers. As you are all aware, the community has been targeted by a small number of spammers, making it difficult for genuine members to communicate and provide useful information in order to promote Bitcoin and the community.
As a dedicated member of our community, I decided to become your local board moderator in order to combat spam and scammers and make all topics worth to discuss. With your help and trust, we will have a clean community again. .
What do you guys think?
This thread will collect feedback from the community regarding me becoming a moderator.

I will convert it to PR standard afterwards.

If you know of a user that creates duplicates, spams with worthless social media topics, uses the board to gain Activity points, or spreads hate with issues related to politics. No rank is excluded - if you're wearing a signature and avatar and shitposting in Pidgin to complete your post count, you best stop or I'll stop for you. Please help me report them here let's clean the board together.

What is Dusting attack? This is a common scenario in which an attacker sends a small amount of Sats to random Bitcoin wallets, which could be as little as 10 cents, 15 cents, or 20 cents worth of bitcoin. And by doing so, the attacker may now follow how you spend your Bitcoin, allowing them to figure out who you are, your identity, and how much Bitcoin you own. And this is dangerous because he hacker can now attack you and try to steal your Bitcoin if they know who you are and how much you have. We are only familiar with phishing attacks, in which you may be sent a phishing email. This is when you send an email that appears to be from a legitimate organization. You click on the link, enter all of your information, and now you have given it all up, and there is computer ransom where someone takes over your computer, freezes it, and possibly steals a critical document on your computer, and the only way to unfreeze the computer is for you to pay ransom. Bitcoin dusting attacks are the most dangerous of all, especially for those who use most Bitcoin wallets without coin control/UTXO management, since you're forced to spend whatever UTXO you have in your wallet, including the UTXO that the attacker sent to your wallets, and as a Bitcoiner, your privacy is important, and you don't want people knowing your identity online, let alone how much money you have, and sometimes this dusting attack is sent by the government authorities. Coin control/ UTXO management.Coin control is critical for privacy since it allows users to choose between a compromised output (UTXO) and a private (UTXO) when spending Bitcoin. To protect your anonymity, avoid using Bitcoin wallets without currency control, as this exposes you to Dusting attacks. Methods for identifying dusting attacks and freezing compromised UTXOs from your private currency. Dust attack control in Sparrow wallet.1. A suspected dusted attacking UTXO is automatically identified in updated desktop wallets such as Sparrow and Wasabi wallets; these wallets are programmed to display a caution sign on an output (UTXO) less than 1000 Sats. Most dusting attacks are motivated by greed, and most Nigerians fall victim to this type of attack because we believe so strongly in miracle money. If you find an unexpectedly small amount of output (UTXO) in your wallet, do not spend it; it is most likely an output (UTXO) attack. 2. Click UTXO => right click on the suspected dusting attack UTXO => Freeze UTXO 3. Now you can spend your private UTXOs without spending the suspected dusting attack UTXO. Dust attack control in Waasbi wallet.Goto settings => click Bitcoin => Dust Threasom ( You can adjust the amount of Bitcoin you do not wish to receive in your wallet since dust attack are always a low amount of Sats. Simple! But these dusting attacks also can be used for good. They can be used to track stolen Bitcoin and also track the spending of hackers.

Whats UTXO and why should I care?.
40,000 Sats = $10.63 UTXOs is very common and some of you don't know why you're always paying high fees anytime you send out bitcoin from your wallet, I will explain. Assume you're going to buy Bitcoin on an exchange. Assume you buy 40.000 Sats per day, therefore you purchased 40,000 Sats. The next day, you buy another 40,000 Sats at the exchange and transfer it to your hardware wallet. The next day, you buy another 40,000 sats at the exchange and transfer them to your hardware wallet, giving you 120,000 sats of Bitcoin in your hardware wallet that is safe and secure. That's fantastic. But there's a small problem here. So, every time you sent Bitcoin from the exchange to your hardware wallet, you generated a UTXO (unspent transaction output). Consider this to be a tiny fraction of Bitcoin; in essence, you have three pieces of Bitcoin here. The trouble is, if you want to send out these three chunks of Bitcoin, you'll have to pay a reasonable amount in fees because each chunk of Bitcoin takes up space in a block on the blockchain, and you have to pay money for the space you're taking up in those blocks. So if you have a lot of UTXOs, you'll take up a lot more space in the block and you'll have to charge for each of these UTXOs in order to send your Bitcoin out. Bitcoin doesn't care how much Bitcoin you transferred; you can send a million Bitcoin, but if it's all within one UTXO, you'll just be charged a little fee. Practical.
1. I transferred 3 chunks of Bitcoin; 40,000. 40,000, 40,000 sats (120,000 sats total) from my first sparrow wallet to my second sparrow wallet and in the process i created 3 UTXOs in my wallet, I took three block space on the blockchain in the process. 1a. Then I transferred another 120,000 sats in a single transaction to my second wallet thus creating only 1 UTXO Sending the Bitcoin.
2. I started with the first transaction, I marked the 3 chunks of bitcoin input of 40,000, 40,000, 40,000 sats a total of 120,000 sats and send at the current network fee of 14.14sats/Vb (as of when I tried it) and the total fees to send out this 120,000 sats was $0.91 beacuse I was charged for the 3 UTXOs I created, now lets compared this fee to that of the single transaction of 120,000 sats (1 UTXO) 2a. I transfer the second transaction of 120,000 sats at the same network fees of 14.14 Sats/Vb and the total fees to send out this bitcoin was $0.41 I saved $0.5 on fee for the same amount of Bitcoin. Conclusion.
For every bitcoin you send to your wallet you are renting a space in the block if you're sending maybe $100 worth of bitcoin, and you have it spread across 6 UTXOs, thats $10, $10, $10, $10, $10, $50 well, you're going to be eaten alive by fees cause you're going to be paying for each of the block space you rented. So instead of spreading across 6 UTXOs you should wait till you accumulate your $100 Bitcoin and send it to your wallet in a single transaction. For those of you saving your signature payment, you will receive 1 UTXO every week and as network fees rise, you will have to pay high fees to get those out. If the network becomes congested again, you may not have enough to cover the amount of UTXOs in your wallet, preventing you from withdrawing your coins.
UTXO Consolidation.
Okay, I've already created a bunch of UTXOs from my signature earnings and daily bitcoin transfers from CEX to my wallet. What do I need to do to get rid of these UTXOs and consolidate my UTXOs into one? 1. Copy your receiver address from the same wallet ( where you sent your coins) and 2. Click UTXO on your sparrow wallet and press Command on your Keyboard and select all the UTXOs and click send 3. Paste the receiver address you copied as the recipient, set your fees and click send and broadcast the transaction and as you can see on the screenshot I've already consolidated 5 UTXOs in my wallet into 1 UTXO. Dowload verified Sparrow wallet here https://sparrowwallet.com/download/You are welcome.

What happened:: I received this fake Binance (phishing) email to my mail just now. I'm not sure how these scammers got hold of my email because I've never used it for anything other than the Binance exchange, so I'm wondering if Binance database was just hacked or anything. In the email, they ask users to exchange their BUSD stablecoin to FDUSD coin (I didn't click the link) prior to February 2024. If you receive this email, it is almost certainly a fraud or a phishing link designed to wipe your BUSD. Be cautious and avoid clicking it. Why are these exchanges selling our personal information? Must be a very good business.
