201  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / LTC price skyrocket on: April 03, 2017, 09:25:53 AM
What happened?

202  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Do you use hdmi dummy plug for your mining rig? on: April 03, 2017, 07:59:09 AM
https://rumorscity.com/2013/12/06/how-to-create-dummy-plugs-for-your-graphics-cards/

Says you should.

I notice that my asrock BTC won't boot if not connected to monitor. I need only 1 monitor for the whole mining rig though.

So I just want to make sure.
203  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / How exactly undervolting and overclocking and bios modifying improves hash rate? on: April 02, 2017, 10:27:26 PM
I sort of know it does.

But how exactly does it work?

I can have good guesses. Perhaps modifying bios will improve how "tight" timing on memory is.

Overclocking GPU don't seem to work at all because actual GPU clock is always lower according to afterburner. This is for ethash. Setting GPU frequency in afterburner is more like setting GPU maximum frequency.

Not sure what undervolting does.
204  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / If our mining rig crash, is there a way to know why? on: April 02, 2017, 10:24:47 PM
If I overclock my card to 2250 memory sometimes my computer will crash.

Is there a way to know why?

Also the crash rarely happen. Is there a way to make them gracefully restart program instead of crashing?
205  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Update bios for my sapphire Rx 480 nitro OC and got lower hash rate on: April 02, 2017, 11:08:41 AM
instead.

I go here

https://forum.ethereum.org/discussion/9650/sapphire-rx-480-nitro-oc-8gb-11260-01-20g-modded-bios-29-mh-downvolt

I flash the rom using atiwinflash

The result is my computer won't boot

So I use original ram for my GPU and then change the value to match the ROM I downloaded from the link.

Polaris editor reports that everything is exactly the same. There is one number on top left that's green. I don't know what number is that.

Things load but speed drops to 20 Mh/s instead of up to 29 Mh/s

I used the recommended clock of 1125/2080

Which is much lower than my usual settings. I know.

If I raised the clock rate, the computer freeze.

Actually what kind of bios I should use for my system anyway? Is there any bios I can just flash as is? If so, how do I know it's the correct one?

I uses Sapphire nitro oc RX 480. The memory is samsung. The memory is supposedly 4GB but all Sapphire nitro RX 480 4GB with samsung memory contains 8GB memory actually.

There is another main difference between the 2 bios

My original bios have this number when opened in atiwinflash

113-2E3471U.O6A

While bios I downloaded have this number

113-2E3470U.S5U

I have no idea what that number is and it doesn't seem like it's something polaris editor can change.

This is my GPU-z screenshot

206  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Among several ways to flash custom bios, which one you use? on: April 01, 2017, 07:28:42 AM
1st. Take custom bios as is flash to your card. I did this and brick my card. I can unbrick it of course. Doesn't work. Often even if my card is RX 480 Sapphire Nitro OC with samsung memory, a bios for another RX 480 Sapphire Nitro OC with samsung memory may not work.
2nd. Take custom bios, change some id in polaris editor using my card and flash.
3rd. Take custom bios, copy the memory density and time strapping to current bios and flash.
4th. Take current bios, change memory strapping based on something.

Which one did you use and which one is right?
207  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Pools (Altcoins) / How does pool recoqnize that some shares worth more than others? on: March 31, 2017, 08:41:20 PM
I've been thinking the following. Say network difficulty fluctuates wildly. Miners that come only when difficulty is lower will be more productive. How would a pool recoqnize this? Which pool recoqnize this instantly?

For example, this is pretty much what I understand from what miningpoolhub says. It's a PPLNS pool.

Say a coin has difficulty 10000

Block 1 is found after 10k shares
Block 2 is found after 10k shares
Block 3 is found after 10k shares
So N for block 4, based on what miningpoolhub says, is 10k

Then suddenly difficulty drop to 1

Now, each "share" should worth much more right.

However, the way I see it is because Block 1, 2 and 3 requires 10k shares, someone mining block 4 when difficulty is much lower will have their shares worth the same way with someone that's mining block 1, 2, and 3 without caring that productivity is "low" at those blocks.

How does pool in general implement that shares that are given during low difficulty worth far more than shares that are given during high difficulty.

This is important for those making bots to buy hash to send to miningpoolhub because, of course, we would send hash only if difficulty is lower.

One thing I would imagine is to implement N in PPLNS in such a way that N is always proportional to difficulty when a block is found. So if difficulty is really low when a block is found then only few shares get a piece.

Another way to implement this is to have weighted share. So each share is divided by difficulty and people get paid based on those weighted share. Obviously share that are earned when difficulty is lower worths more.

The reason I ask is because pool's difficulty is pretty much constant while network difficulty may fluctuate wildly.
208  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / after burner and watttool cannot detect my gpu sensors on: March 31, 2017, 05:38:22 PM

I uses asrock BTC

However, I connect hdmi to the motherboard's hdmi port instead of to the gpu hdmi port.

The result is after burner and watttool is not functioning properly.

Some says that I should have put the LCD hdmi on the GPU instead. However, I do not understand why would that make any differences.
209  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Pools (Altcoins) / Can anyone explain to me how this PPLNS work? on: March 30, 2017, 03:07:05 PM
N is average of last few block's share sum.
Quote
354 block height's block sum 100
355 block height's block sum 110
356 block height's block sum 200
357 block height's block sum will be ((100 + 110 + 200) / 3) = 136
If 357 block height's block sum was 200, then first 64 shares will be skipped and only 136 shares from backward will be calculated.
It's just rough calculation to describe what's happening at PPLNS. It's much more complex calculation.

I think you are concerned about fair distribution. It's quite fair because pool distributes to miners according to their time and difficutly.
You are collaborating and competing the block reward with other miners in same pool.

210  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Is there a copy of old AMD driver that doesn't check BIOS signature? on: March 29, 2017, 10:04:45 AM
This one says that

https://forum.ethereum.org/discussion/11159/rx-480-sapphire-nitro-oc-4gb-modded-to-8gb-31-mh-1225-2200-mhz

Amd catalyst center version 16.9 or 16.11 other versions need t

So I like to use just that. But I cannot find AMD catalyst center version 16.11

Where can I get that? Is that a driver?

And what should I do if I can't find it?
211  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Where can I get Amd catalyst center version 16.9 on: March 28, 2017, 12:39:39 PM
Actually what is AMD catalyst center?

This one https://forum.ethereum.org/discussion/11159/rx-480-sapphire-nitro-oc-4gb-modded-to-8gb-31-mh-1225-2200-mhz

says that I should download

Amd catalyst center version 16.9 or 16.11 other versions need to be patched to work with modded bioses as they check for the bios signature and will deactivate the card

The problem is, other versions of what?

What is catalyst center? Is it a driver for AMD radeon or what?

I thought the drivers name is called crimson

Where can I download it because I do not see catalyst center 16.11 anywhere on page mentioned.

Will this work?

http://support.amd.com/en-us/kb-articles/Pages/Radeon-Software-Crimson-Edition-16.11.2-Release-Notes.aspx

It says Crimson. Not Catalyst.
212  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / How to flash custom rom to card? on: March 26, 2017, 01:17:29 AM
I saw this https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1584617.new#new

And I am interested.

I just wonder what to do. It's too long.
213  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Miningpoolhub vs nicehash miner. Which one is better? on: March 25, 2017, 11:54:08 PM
Did anyone tried and test this and see which one earn more for RX 480?

The nicehash seems to be able to switch to better algo more quickly. The miningpoolhub miner seems to scan once and stick.

Anyone tried and see which one is better?

I think  a multi algo switch program need to do these

1. Benchmark once. That's because how capable a card for each algorithm do not change over time. Nicehash do this. Miningpoolhub miner seems to do this every time we start. If we benchmark every time we want to switch it'll take a long time.
2. A pool or a miner will know which algo to switch too. That's because the pool can check the difficulty, the price, and the reward of each coins. I am not sure miningpoolhub miner do this. I know nicehash did.
3. I want low fee. Miningpoolhub took only .9 percent. Nicehash took 3% from buyers and 3% from sellers.
4. Dual mining claymore. Miningpoolhub does this but nicehash don't.

So I wonder if there is any other multi algo switch that switch a lot and do all 4
214  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / I used RX 480 and got only 24MB/s rate on: March 24, 2017, 11:44:46 AM
Whattomine.com says I should be getting 29MB/s rate.

Some says they can get 30MB/s rate.

What did I do wrong?
215  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / What should I select for my planned rigs of 6 Rx 480 GPU and one motherboard? on: March 21, 2017, 06:18:58 AM
What would be a good PSU for a mining rig with Asrock BTC and 6 RX 480 cards?

Should I use USB powered risers or ribbon powered risers?

Powered risers or unpowered risers?

Should I have one PSU for one rig or 2 PSUs for one such rig?

What does 80+ PSU means?

One RX 480 cards will use 150 watt each. Mobo 100 watt. So total should be 1000 watt.

Some suggest 1700 watt PSU.

If I have a 1700 watt PSU and I only use 1300 watt, will the PSU actually use 1700 watt nevertheless?

216  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Something Blow up when mining on: March 20, 2017, 08:30:02 PM
I was typing and doing stuff. Then I hear a boop sound. And one of my computer is death.

It seems that the videocard explode though I do not know for sure what's exploding.

RIP.

It's not a rig. I put a video card on one old computer to test mining.

Well....

It blows up.

I wonder what should we do to prevent this from happening?

Is there a software that monitor GPU temperature and turn off everything when it exceeds something?

218  Economy / Services / Something automatically create and renew order in nicehash wallet on: March 20, 2017, 05:54:54 PM
Basically I have lost pure .15 BTC to buy some OVERPRICED order that I DO NOT CREATE.

I put .04 to test.

I don't know whether result is good or bad.

So I want to test again with .1

Then I wait and wait and wait for wallet balance to go up. I thought it took so long for nicehash to credit my account.

The next day my balance is still low. I saw something suspicious.

Turns out all the money is there to buy some stupid script order. I created that order A LONG time ago in nicehash bot. Now the price for script hash is much lower. I don't even know at what price my order goes. I have no idea. I didn't create it.

So I saw my nicehash bot. It looks like there are 2 idle orders. I thought. Oh. Perhaps the nicehash bot automatically create those orders.

Okay, I deleted those 2 orders.

And then I add a little money again.

Guess what?

Exact same thing happen again.

I have no fucking idea. The nicehash bot isn't even running. There are no orders in nicehash bot.

I am fucked. Fucked.

What is the point of having balance and put a little money to that order if my whole balance will be gone for autorenew? Shouldn't I choose to renew it?

219  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / What is the best miner out there? on: March 20, 2017, 09:37:29 AM
There is cudaminer, there is genoit miner, claymore miner.

What's the difference between all that?

Which one I use?
